Troopers Get Bumped From Tournament; Rockies Roll Over the Cubs

TROOPERS- The Sheridan Troopers season came to an end Friday morning as they were eliminated from the American Legion State Baseball Tournement being held at Thorne-Rider Stadium in Sheridan. Powell jumped out to a commanding 12-0 lead and never trailed in the game and won by a final of 15-7. Powell went on to beat Laramie Friday afternoon to earn a regional bid, while the two top teams squared off in the nightcap, with Cheyenne edging Gillette 4-3. The two teams will butt heads again this evening at 7 o'clock. Gillette needs to win to force another game with Cheyenne, which would take place at 1 pm Sunday.

ROCKIES- Carlos Gonzalez, Ian Stewart and Dexter Fowler homered and the Colorado Rockies used a record-setting 12-run eighth inning to rout the Chicago Cubs 17-2 on Friday night. Gonzalez had four hits, two in the eighth when the Rockies set a major league record with 11 straight hits in the inning. The Rockies had 13 hits in the inning, a franchise record.

Fowler and Stewart both hit two-run homers in the eighth as the Rockies piled up a club-high 12 extra base hits in the game. The Rockies batted around twice in the inning against relievers Sean Marshall, Andrew Cashner and Brian Schlitter. Troy Tulowitzki had two doubles and three RBIs, Melvin Mora had two hits and Brad Hawpe and Chris Iannetta reached base twice in the inning.

BRONCOS- Tim Tebow is working out with the Denver Broncos for the first time since signing his contract. The two-time national champion from Florida who was selected in the first round of the NFL draft in April got in an hour's worth of field work with other rookies before the veterans report Today. The first full-squad workout is Sunday. Tebow signed a five-year deal Thursday worth $11.25 million with $8.7 million of that guaranteed. He could earn up to $33 million over the life of the contract if he ascends to the top of the quarterback chart. Right now, the starter is Kyle Orton.
