MOUNTAIN WEST CONFERENCE FOOTBALL - Utah spotted California a 14-0 lead before scoring the next 24 points and then going on to beat the Bears 37-27 in the “Poinsettia Bowl” in San Diego. Utes' freshman quarterback Jordan Wynn says after throwing an interception for a touchdown and falling behind, the Utes came back strong.
That's three straight victories for the MWC and second win over the Pac-10 after BYU beat Oregon State in the “Las Vegas” Bowl. The Wyoming Cowboys picked up the league's first win in the “New Mexico” Bowl last Saturday.
Next up for the MWC is the Air Force Academy. The Falcons play Houston in the “Armed Forces” Bowl on New Year's Eve; that will be followed by TCU playing in the “Fiesta” Bowl against Boise State on January 4th.
WYOMING BASKETBALL - The Wyoming basketball Cowboys fell apart after a good start at Northern Iowa last night. The Pokes had a 9-point lead mid-way through the first half, only to see Northern Iowa take control of the game as the Cowboys fell 72-54.
The Cowboys were down 34-33 at halftime but went ice cold from the field, scoring only 19 points in the 2nd half and giving up 40. With the loss, the Cowboys fall back to 6-6 on the season. They play their next game at home hosting Akron University on December 30th.
LADY BRONC BASKETBALL - On the local sports scene, the gyms are quiet until Monday when teams return to practice. The Sheridan Lady Broncs are 6-1 at the break. They don't have a senior on the roster, and head coach Derek Bissitt expects the Lady Broncs to get even better with more playing time.
BRONC BASKETBALL - The Broncs are 5-2. They are off to their best start in years, and the season outlook is bright. In five of the first seven games, the Broncs have shown they will be able to score a lot of points, but head coach Mike Ibach says it's the defense that will keep the Broncs near the top of the 4-A ranks.
Both teams are playing games January 7th, 8th and 9th at a Jamboree in Riverton. They will play Star Valley, Riverton and Evanston.
NFL - The Denver Broncos play at Philadelphia Sunday afternoon. We will have the game live on AM 1410 KWYO and 95.9 FM -- broadcast time is 1:00 with kick-off at 2:15.
