BRONC / LADY BRONC SOCCER - The Sheridan high school soccer teams ended the regular season Friday night sweeping matches from Gillette the scores were identical 2-1.
Hartley Stewart scored on a corner kick in the 80th minute to give the Lady Broncs their victory.
They finish as the regular season conference champs after the victory over Gillette we talked with Head coach Tom Racette.
Two years ago the Lady Broncs didn't win a game and this year they only had one loss and Racette says the players went to work before the season started and have shown how hard work pays off.
The loss they took against Laramie three weeks ago refocused the team and now they look forward to playing at the regional tournament this week and then a trip back to the state championships.
The Broncs finish the regular season as conference champs as well Head coach Kevin Riser said Friday night's win over Gillette was a great way for getting ready for the post season.
Now it's onto the post season and now it gets really serious as they try to defend their state championship from 2011.
And Riser says the team is playing well right now and we use this week to get themselves in a good frame of mind as they make a run at another state title.
Soccer regional tournament play starts Thursday the Lady Broncs will open their tournament on Friday after receiving a first round bye the girls regional is being played in Laramie.
The Lady Broncs will play Friday night at 6:00 against the Gillette / Cheyenne East winner.
The Broncs also have a first round bye and will play Friday evening against the winner of the Cheyenne East / Gillette match that will be played Thursday.
There will be two games each day at 4:00 and 6:00 Thursday and Friday at Homer Scott stadium.
Saturday the 3rd / 4th place match will be played at 10:00 and the regional title match will follow at Noon.
The state soccer championships will be played at the Big Horn Equestrian center the tournament will begin Thursday May 17th.
TRACK AND FIELD - Regional track meets will be held at various sites around the state this weekend the Broncs and Lady Broncs will compete in the 4-A East regional at Cheyenne South high school.
The 1-A / 2-A East regional for NSI, Arvada/Clearmont, Big Horn and Tongue River will be with the 4-A schools at Cheyenne South.
The All-class Wyoming state high school track and field championships begin Thursday, May 17th in Casper at Kelly Walsh high school.
BRONC / LADY BRONC GOLF - The Bronc and Lady Bronc golfers will host their spring invitational tomorrow at Kendrick golf course.
The spring golf season will end with the 4-A East conference tournament in Casper starting Monday, May 14th.
TROOPER BASEBALL - The Sheridan Troopers open the baseball season opens Friday night when they host a single nine game with the Casper Oilers the game will start at 7:00.
The home opening celebration for the Troops will take place Sunday afternoon when they host a double header with the Powell Pioneers.
The first game of that double header will start at 1:00 and we will be broadcasting that game live on 14-10 KWYO.
MOUNTAIN WEST CONFERENCE - The Mountain West conference has added two new members that will begin full league play in July of 2013.
San Jose state and Utah state will be the newest members of the league next year, this fall Nevada and Fresno state are joining the University of Hawaii is also joining the league as football-only.
San Diego state and Boise state leave the league after the 2012 school year. The league is also looking into an agreement with Conference-USA.
Both conferences are adding and losing schools over the next two years and are trying to determine if they can make some kind of alliance with one another which could include a football championship game in the future.
ROCKIES BASEBALL - The Colorado Rockies finished up a three game series with Atlanta Sunday afternoon and got beat 7-2 as the Braves swept all three games at Coors field.
