This weekend was very encouraging for our rodeo program. On our womens team sophomore Chelsey Kelly split 5th and 6th in the goat tying in the long round with a time of 8.5, she was 5th in the short round with a time of 7.9 and placed 5th in the average.
Freshman Laine Hanson split 4th and 5th in the breakaway with a time of 4.1. In the short round Laine roped her calf fast but missed her slack getting a no time. We were very impressed with our new recruits Jade Benson, Mandy Newman and Toree Gunn roped their calves good but had trouble at the barrier, but they will be ready for Riverton this weekend. The womens team finished 8th, with Northeastern Jr. College placing first and the University of Wyoming placing 2nd.
Our men's team placed 6th overall with sophomore Shane Stevens leading the way in the bareback riding placing 3rd in the long round with a score of 73. Shane split 3rd and 4th in the short round with a 68 score and split 2nd and 3rd in the average. Sophomore.
Taylor Kelly placed 4th in the long round in the saddle bronc riding. Taylor's short round horse fell in him, giving him a reride, his reride horse fouled him on the gate possibly breaking Taylors ankle, soTaylor was unable to get on his reride.
Sophomore Allen Auer placed 4th in the bullriding with a score of 65. Allen was unable to get his short round bull covered. Overall we are very excited about both the men and womens team, and we look forward to competing this weekend. The university of Wyoming won the mens title and eastern wyoming college was second.
