JETS SPLIT DOUBLE HEADER AND WITH THE TROOPERS PLAY ON THE ROAD THIS WEEKEND

The Sheridan Jets earn a split with Cody

SHERIDAN JETS BASEBALL – The Jets played Cody last night and earned a split in the double header at Thorne-rider stadium. Cody took the first game but the Jets came back and built up a comfortable lead in the second game and held off the Cubs 9-7. Head coach Ryan Murner says the players came back and got the job done in the late game.

TROOPERS SPLIT IN STURGIS

TROOPER BASEBALL - The Sheridan Troopers played in Sturgis, South Dakota last night and earned a split.

Sturgis took game one 9-6 but the Troops came back with strong pitching from Matt Jones to take the second game 8-1. Jones struck out seven in the victory, Devin Rogeau had a Double in each game and scored four times.

The Troops play their next four on the road, they head to Cody tomorrow and Riverton Monday before returning home next Wednesday in a return double header with Sturgis.

TROOPER BASEBALL - The Sheridan Troopers split last night's double header with the Casper Oilers. The Oilers took game one 12-5 head coach Ben Phillips says

They came back to win the late game 9-5 behind the starting pitching of game winner Ben Buckingham Phillips says the difference was the Troops playing a cleaner game.

The Troops play their next six on the road and have a busy month coming up as they prepare for the post season and state tournament.

AUSTIN WOODWARD - We announced yesterday that Sheridan high school Senior Austin Woodward became the 5th student from Sheridan high school to win the annual “Millward Simpson”award. The Simpson award goes to the top high school male and female athlete of the year for the state of Wyoming.

We caught up with Austin yesterday he says he had quite a senior year starting with November's Bronc state football championship.

Woodward received the Simpson award Saturday night in Casper and says the list of other nominees was impressive as he was surprised to be named this year's winner.

The Sheridan County Jr. Golf Tournaments are open to all girls and boys ages 8-17 years old and kick-off is Monday, July 19th. Golfers will play 5, 9 or 18 holes, depending on their age and course difficulty.

A Sheridan High School Senior wins the "Millward Simpson' Award

SIMPSON AWARDS - Sheridan high school senior Austin Woodward became the 5th student from Sheridan high school to win the annual “Millward Simpson” award Saturday night in Casper.

The Simpson award goes to the top high school male and female athlete of the year for the state of Wyoming. Woodward added this honor to a long list he received for his efforts this past school year. he was named All-state in football and basketball, was named the Wyoming Gatorade football player of the year and to the state's Super 25 football team.

AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL - The Sheridan Troopers are 8-23 overall after dropping a 9-5 game at Rapid City Post #320 last night. The Troops took the lead scoring three runs in the first inning but couldn't hold the lead starting pitcher Ben Buckingham was saddled with the loss.

Next up for the Troopers is a conference double header Tuesday at home against the Casper Oilers. Wyoming American Legion baseball went to a District tournament format last summer for teams to qualify for the state tournament and that is a month away.

AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL - The Sheridan Troopers are 8-22 and will play two in Rapid City tonight. The Troops have looked pretty good the last few weeks but have taken some tough losses in some close games and Head coach Ben Phillips says they would like to see more consistent play.

For the most part the the defense has been getting better but they are leaving too many runners on base.
