The Sheridan College rodeo teams traveled to Chadron Nebraska this past weekend.
The men’s team scored 405 points placing 4th. They were led by sophomore Zeke Thurston, who won the saddle bronc riding again this weekend.
He was 79 points winning the long round and scored 73 points in the short round splitting 1st and 2nd which placed him 1st in the average earning 175 team points.
He also placed 10th in the long round in the tie down roping with a 12.0 time, he tied his short round calf in 9.5 seconds placing 3rd in the short round and 5th in the average earning 60 team points.
Zeke also qualified in the team roping placing 7th in the long round with a 8.2 second run, but his partner Jayne Lauweryssen missed the steer in the short round, they ended up 8th in the average.
Zeke is currently 1st in the saddle bronc riding in the region and 10th in the tie down roping.
Taygen Schuelke placed 2nd in the long round in the saddle bronc riding with a 75 point ride, he scored 43 points and was offered a reride, which he took, even though he was qualified for the short round with the 43 points.
He drew a hard to ride horse in the short round and was scored 58 points with no option for a reride. He ended up 4th in the short round and split 3rd and 4th in the average earning 115 team points.
Taygen is currently 2nd in the saddle bronc riding in the region.
Dillon Barkshire split 3rd and 4th in the long round in the saddle bronc riding with a score of 71 points, but Dillon missed his horse out and was bucked off in the short round, he placed 5th in the average, he earned 55 team points.
Dillon is currently 6th in the saddle bronc riding in the region.
Jayne Lauweryssen placed 6th in the goat tying with a time of 7.2 seconds, but her goat got up in the short round, she also qualified in the team roping with her partner Zeke Thurston.
Annie Novotny made it back to the short round in two events the barrel racing where she split 6th and 7th with a time of 17.03 seconds, she hit a barrel in the short round and placed 10th in the average.
She also roped her break away calf in 3.2 seconds placing 7th in the long round, but missed her slack in the short round placing her 9th in the average.
We had a number of athletes that competed well and just missed the short round.
Teddi Schwagler placed 11th in the goat tying, she missed the short round by 1/10th of a second. Teddi and her brother Tate roped their steer in 8.8 seconds and missed the short round by 6/10th of a second.
Tate also rode his bareback horse for 68 points but missed the short round. Cashlee Cunningham and her team roping partner Cash Hetzel roped their steer in 9.5 seconds but also failed to make it back.
The Men’s team is currently ranked 3rd in the region behind Casper and Gillette. The Women’s team is currently 5th in the region.
