Sheridan College Rodeo team went to Gillette for the first rodeo of the spring season this past weekend…..and the Men’s team came home with the Men’s team title!!!!
Our young men stepped up this weekend and rode some of the rankest stock in the country, their talent and hard work paid off for them this weekend by besting 12 other colleges and universities.
Freshman Taygen Schuelke (from Newell, SD) won the bullriding with a 76 point ride in the long round to win the round, he was bucked off in the short round along with the other four bullriders that made the short round.
Taygen earned 120 team points and the bullriding title, Taygen also split 3rd and 4th in the Saddle bronc riding with a score of 66 points. In the short round all five saddle bronc riders got bucked off, so Taygen split 3rd and 4th in the average earning a total of 70 team points.
Also, in the bullriding Zach Scofield (from Faith, SD) split 2nd and 3rd in the long round with a score of 71 points. Zach split the round with fellow team member CJ Davidson (from Worsley, Alberta).
In the short round Zach got on one of the rankest bulls I’ve seen. CJ got bucked off as well in the short round on a hard to ride spinner.
Zach earned 90 team points and CJ wasn’t on the team this week but he earned 90 points as well, they placed 2nd and 3rd in the average.
Tate Schwagler (from Mandan, ND) rode really well in the bareback riding, Tate scored 71 points in the long round placing 3rd in the round and earning 40 team points.
Tate scored 68 points in the short round splitting 2nd 3rd and 4th in the round and earning another 40 team points. Tate split the bareback riding title with a bareback rider from Casper college, they each had a total of 139 points on two head. Tate earned a total of 135 team points.
Shane Stevens (from Laramie, WY) also rode a couple of tough to ride bareback horses in both the long and the short round. Shane scored 65 points in the long round splitting 5th and 6th place earning 15 team points.
Shane scored 65 points in the short round not placing in the round but he placed 6th in the average for 10 team points.
Also doing well in the rodeo were team ropers Sutton Sandquist (from Mobridge, SD) and Logan Schaper (from Halliday, ND) roped their first steer in 9.6 seconds placing 10th and drew a hard runner in the short round and caught him in 16.9 seconds, they placed 7th in the round and 7th in the average.
Cady Halverson (from Douglas, WY) was the only girl on the team to make it back to the short round. Cady placed 10th in the barrel racing with a time of 15.72 seconds in the long round, she ran a 15.78 in the short round to place 7th in the round.
We are very excited about the win this weekend and are looking forward the our next rodeo in two weeks in Fort Collins, CO at CSU.
