SC announces familiar face as Generals men’s soccer head coach
Sheridan College announced the selection of Austin Albers as the inaugural men’s soccer head coach. Albers joined the General’s coaching staff in the fall of last year as the Assistant Volleyball Coach.

“I am so pleased that Austin will be serving our student-athletes in this new capacity,” said Sheridan College Athletics Director Steve Smiley. “Austin has proven himself time and again to be forward-thinking, energetic, and student-focused.

Our entire coaching staff has expressed such confidence in him and his ability to build this program from the ground up. He has an instant advantage, given that he is here, now, and will hit the ground running.”

Prior to joining the General’s team, Albers spent three seasons as the Assistant Volleyball Coach at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, S.D. He earned his Bachelor of Science in exercise science management from BHSU in May, 2012.

Albers, grew up playing the game of soccer, participating in his first organized game at the age of four. He continued playing throughout his high school career for Spearfish High School in Spearfish, S.D., twice earning All-State honors.

He went on to play collegiate soccer for Western Nebraska Community College.

“Soccer is truly an exciting game,” said Albers. “This community and the state of Wyoming really support the sport and I am excited to have the opportunity to build this program.

We have a lot of students that have already expressed interested in playing, and I am looking forward to putting together our inaugural team. They will take the field for our first season this fall.”

Sheridan College men’s and women’s soccer teams will compete in the NJCAA Region IX and will compete in their first season beginning in August, 2013.
