BRONC FOOTBALL - The Sheridan Broncs are headed to the State Championship football game for the first time since 1997 after a stunning victory over Casper Kelly Walsh Friday night.
Both teams scored on short runs in the first half, but the Broncs missed their extra point to give Kelly a 7-6 lead until late in the game. The Broncs had the ball last and made two great plays to set up Drew Slikker's 28-yard field goal to win the game 9-7.
On 4th and 11, Austin Woodward threw a 44-yard pass to Cody Williams to the Kelly 15-yard line; that set up the winning kick. Trevor Jackson talked with head coach Don Julian after the victory. Not only did the Bronc offense come through with some big plays, the defense made a game-saving goal line stand in the second half.
They have now won 10 consecutive games as this special season continues. Not only do they have the best record in the state and the long winning streak; for the first time ever, a 4-A team has beaten every team in the league in the same year.
Cheyenne Central beat Gillette 27-10 in the other Semi-Final. The Broncs meet Central in the State Championship game at War Memorial Stadium at the University of Wyoming this Saturday afternoon at 3:30.
HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAY-OFFS - The 3-A State Title game will have Cody taking on Douglas, and the 2-A Championship will have Glenrock taking on Thermopolis. Southeast beat Wind River to earn a trip to the 1-A Title Game -- they play Lingle; the Doggers beat Cokeville in their Semi-Final. And the 6-Man Championship will have Guernsey playing Kaycee.
LADY GENERALS BASKETBALL - The Sheridan College Lady Generals basketball team dropped two games over the weekend at home. They lost against North Idaho Friday, and dropped an 83-64 game against the College of Southern Idaho Saturday. Head coach Frank McCarthy says it was good for the team to see good competition to start the season. Overall, the Lady Generals played okay They play at a tournament at the Air Force Academy this week.
GENERALS BASKETBALL - The Generals will host a tournament Friday and Saturday -- game times will be 5 and 7 Friday and 3 and 5 Saturday.
UW FOOTBALL - The Wyoming football Cowboys played BYU Saturday, and it was all BYU as the Pokes were never in the game. The Cougars won it 52-0. This Saturday the Cowboys play at San Diego State.
UW BASKETBALL - The Wyoming basketball Cowboys opened their exhibition season with a 78-60 win over Division II Regis University. The Cowboys play their season opener at home Friday against South Dakota State.
NFL- The Denver Broncos host Pittsburgh tonight; the game can be heard live on AM 1410 KWYO; broadcast time is at 5:30.
