Injury Forces UW Guard Scheffler to End Basketball Career

LARAMIE (AP) - University of Wyoming guard Kristen Scheffler's basketball career is over because of persistent back injuries.

Cowgirls coach Joe Legerski made the announcement Monday.

Scheffler, of Lovell, will remain on scholarship at UW to pursue her degree in social science.

Legerski says Scheffler's offensive talent will be missed. The 5-foot-10 Scheffler played in six games before an injury sidelined her for remainder of the 2010-12 season. She was averaging 4.8 points and 1.5 rebounds. In her first two years with the Cowgirls, she averaged 8.6 points and two boards.

Legerski also announced that true freshman Fatima Thiam
will not play this season because of an injury. The 6-6 center from Dakar, Senegal tore her right ACL in pre-season workouts.
