BRONC FOOTBALL - Sheridan High School senior Austin Woodward learned yesterday afternoon that he has been named the “Gatorade Football Player” of the year for the state of Wyoming. Woodward was a 3-year starter for the Broncs, and at Quarterback this year, he led the Broncs to an 11-1 record and the State Championship last month. Over his football career at Sheridan High School, Woodward led the Broncs to a 24-7 record.
This past season Woodward threw for over 1,800 yards and rushed for over a 1,000 yards with 28 touchdowns, 15 TD passes and 13 TD runs. He is a 2-time unanimous All-State selection and “Super 25” team member. Currently Woodward is getting ready to start the basketball season with his teammates tonight. He has not made a decision on where he will continue his career in college.
SHS BASKETBALL - The Broncs and Lady Broncs open the basketball season tonight against Green River. Both games will be broadcast live on AM 1410 KWYO.
The Lady Broncs will lead off tonight at 5:45. Head coach Derek Bissitt.
The Broncs face the Wolves, who they beat to open the season a year ago. Head coach Mike Ibach returns several players from last year's team, including four starters. Raith Durham was the starting point guard last season as a sophomore, and Riley Ryan returns as a starter after his freshman season. Ibach says with all the returning players, practice the last couple of weeks has gone well and they appear to be ready to finally play a game. Again, we will broadcast both games live on AM 1410 KWYO; the first game is scheduled to start at 5:45.
LADY GENERALS BASKETBALL - The Sheridan College Lady Generals are on the road this weekend. They play at Williston, North Dakota tomorrow night, and then at Glendive, Montana Sunday afternoon.
GENERALS BASKETBAL - The Generals host Lake Region Community College from Wapeton, North Dakota, Western Nebraska from Scottsbluff, and the new team from Gillette in a 4-game tournament at the Hoffman Dome. Generals coach Steve Smiley says fans will get a chance to see four really good games.
The first game tonight will start at 5:00 with Gillette playing Western Nebraska. The Generals take on Lake Region at 7:00. Tomorrow, Gillette plays Lake Region at 3:00, then the Generals close out the weekend with Western Nebraska at 5:00.
BH/TR BASKETBALL - The Big Horn and Tongue River basketball teams open on the road this weekend; Tongue River heads to a tournament in Thermopolis and the Rams and Lady Rams will be in Lusk.
UW BASKETBALL - The Wyoming basketball team plays at home tomorrow night. The Pokes host Loyola/Marymount -- that broadcast will follow the Broncs' game at Billings West at 6:30 on KWYO. You can also hear Cowboy basketball games on our sister station 95.9 FM.
NFL - We will have Denver Broncos football live Sunday -- they play at Kansas City, with broadcast time set for 10 am on AM 1410 KWYO.
