SHERIDAN TROOPERS PREPARE TO OPEN 2013 / COWGIRLS OPEN WNIT TONIGHT

TROOPER BASEBALL - Sheridan American Legion baseball held their annual player / parent meeting Wednesday night.

They were hoping to be on the field for the first workout Monday but Head coach Ben Phillips says the weather over the next several days has them pushing opening day back to the middle of next week.

The first question of a new season how many front line players are returning in 2013 Phillips says they have some key players coming back.

POKES ADVANCE IN THE CBI / COWGIRLS WNIT THURSDAY / SPRING BREAK AT SHS

BRONC / LADY BRONC TRACK AND FIELD - The Bronc and Lady Bronc track teams will compete this week at a meet in Cody Saturday, spring break also starts and next week Gillette will host an invitational during the break as well.

Sheridan Head track coach Art Bauers says the athletes that make the trip to the meet in Cody Saturday will see some good competition.

And he says during spring break next week they will be a bit short handed but it will be a normal week with practices each day.

Sobey’s Buzzer-Beating Three Downs Lehigh in CBI First Round, 67-66

Junior guard Nathan Sobey nailed a three as time expired to give the University of Wyoming men’s basketball team a dramatic 67-66 win over Lehigh in the first round of the 2013 CBI presented by Buick on Tuesday night in the Arena-Auditorium.

The Cowboys (20-13) trailed the Mountain Hawks (21-10) by seven with five minutes left, but closed the game on a 10-2 run to claim its 23rd-straight non-conference victory in the AA.

The Pokes advance to the CBI quarterfinals where they will host the winner of North Dakota State-Western Michigan on Monday in Laramie.

BRONC / LADY BRONC SOCCER - The Sheridan high school soccer teams have conference games this weekend with Cheyenne South and Laramie the Broncs will be on the road the Lady Broncs at home.

Following play on the opening weekend of the season Lady Broncs Head coach Tom Racette says overall it was a pretty good start.

And he says it was good to get four matches over two days for his young squad.

SHERIDAN RAMPAGE 7TH GRADE HOOP CHAMPS

The Sheridan Rampage, who won the Casper Youth Basketball Tournament, 7th grade boys division, on Sunday, March 17th. They defeated the Casper T-Birds by a score of 37-18.

SHERIDAN 6TH GRADE HOOP CHAMPS

The Sheridan Shooters 6th Grade traveling basketball team completed their season over the weekend by winning the tough Casper Youth Tournamnet.

They beat Torrington and Casper to get to the championship game and then beat Rock Springs 44-31 to win the title.

These boys went 24-6 on the season taking 2nd place in 3 tournaments and winning the last 4 tournaments...they finished the season winning 14 straight games.

WEEKEND LOCAL SPORTS WRAP UP

BRONC / LADY BRONC SOCCER- The Sheridan high school soccer teams played Riverton to overtime ties to begin the season Friday.

The Lady Broncs and Wolverines played to a scoreless draw while the Broncs and Wolverines went to overtime and tied 2-2.

Saturday both teams played three matches at a jamboree in Casper the matches were shortened to 26 minute halves.

The Lady Broncs beat Kelly Walsh 3-0 and lost against Rock Springs 2-1 and Natrona county 1-0.

The Broncs beat Rock Springs 3-0, beat Natrona county 4-0 and dropped a 2-1 decision to Kelly Walsh.

Weekend HS Sports Recap For Johnson County

Buffalo's high school athletes began their spring sports seasons with the soccer teams taking on Jackson and the track and field teams at the Natrona Earlybird Meet in Casper.
