09/04/09 Sports for Friday

RAMS FOOTBALL - The Big Horn Rams took on Greybull last night. The game was a tough defensive battle; all the scoring took place in the 4th Quarter with Greybull coming out on top 7-6. The margin of victory was a blocked extra point. Greybull capped off a 99-yard drive with a touchdown with 10:25 to play to take a 7-0 lead. With 3:09 to go in the game, Cole Ponce returned a punt 85 yards for a touchdown, but Colby Wollenman's extra point was blocked. The Buffs got the ball back after a Big Horn on-side kick attempt and ran out the clock after the tough loss. Rams head coach Bert Dow. Greybull stopped the Rams twice in the first half on first-and-goal; the second came on the final play of the first half. Dow says all they can do now is just come back next week, when they get to travel to Burns.

EAGLES FOOTBALL - The Tongue River Eagles play their regular season opener this afternoon hosting the Hulett Red Devils. Sheridan Media's Ron Richter has a preview.

BRONC FOOTBALL - The Sheridan Broncs play at Cheyenne East tonight. They dropped the KW game 42-20 last Friday -- mistakes in the final six minutes of the first half did them in. Head coach Don Julian says that was a wake-up call for everyone. The opponent tonight, Cheyenne East, lost 42-28 against Green River last week. Julian says the East program has made a big turn-around in the last several years, which included winning a State Title.

The Broncs' defense should be familiar with the East offense because they see it every week in practice. And the offense and special teams need to be on top of their game. Remember it's an early start this evening: we will be on the air with the First Federal Savings Bank Pre-game Show at 5:30 and the kickoff at 6 o'clock on AM 1410 KWYO.

NFL - The Denver Broncos played their final pre-season game last night. Back-up rookie quarterback Tom Brandstater led the Broncos to a 19-0 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Brandstater was 16-30 for 187 yards and led the Broncos to score in four of their first five drives. Next up for Denver: the regular season opener at Cincinnati Sunday, September 13th.

UW - The Wyoming Cowboys open tomorrow in Laramie against Weber State. Broadcast time is at noon on AM 1410 KWYO.

VOLLEYBALL - The Tongue River Lady Eagles, along with Big Horn and Sheridan, begin play at the Gillette Invitational today. That event runs through tomorrow afternoon.
