09/01/09 Sports for Tuesday

SHS WRESTLING / SOCCER - Former Sheridan wrestling coach Corey Hamrick resigned his position this past spring. Last week, the Sheridan County District 2 school board approved the hiring of Terry Burgess to take over the Bronc program. Burgess isn't new to coaching in School District 2; he coached the Bronc wrestlers from 1984-90. He also was a longtime assistant track and football coach. Now that he's back coaching at the varsity level, Burgess joined us this past Friday on our Bronc football broadcast during the Radio Shack halftime show. Burgess says it will be great to be back working with students on a daily basis. Next spring, former Sheridan high school soccer coach and Athletic Director Tom Racette returns to the side lines as the head coach of the Lady Bronc soccer team.

TENNIS - The Bronc and Lady Bronc tennis teams will play matches today at Sheridan High School against Casper Natrona; matches begin at 3 o'clock.

VOLLEYBALL - The Lady Bronc volleyball team will also be in action today; this evening they play a match at Gillette. Friday and Saturday, they compete in the Gillette Invitational Tournament.

In other volleyball action, this week the Sheridan College Lady Generals play at home Thursday night at 7 o'clock against Dawson CC. They also host a tournament this weekend.

The Tongue River Lady Eagles volleyball team will play at home Thursday evening against Kaycee, and will join Big Horn and Sheridan in playing at the Gillette tournament.

SHS SPORTS - The Bronc and Lady Bronc golfers play Thursday and Friday at the Worland Invitational and the Sheridan High School cross-country teams run at a meet in Spearfish, South Dakota Thursday afternoon. The Sheridan Lady Bronc swimmers and divers compete Friday in Laramie.

FOOTBALL - In football action this week, there are two games Thursday night: the Big Horn Rams play Greybull at 7 o'clock at Sheridan High School -- the game will be broadcast live on our sister station 95.9 FM. While the Rams are playing, the Denver Broncos play Arizona, and broadcast time is 6 o'clock on AM 1410 KWYO.

Friday afternoon the Tongue River Eagles play at home vs. Hulett, and the Sheridan Broncs play at Cheyenne East. The Broncs are smarting after that 42-20 loss at the hands of Kelly Walsh; head coach Don Julian says East is another good opponent. It's an early start Friday with the First Federal Pre-game Show at 5:30 and the kickoff at 6 o'clock.

UW - The Wyoming Cowboys open their season Saturday at noon against Weber State in Laramie.

MLB - The Colorado Rockies were off yesterday after getting swept at San Francisco over the weekend. Today the Rocks open a home series with the New York Mets. It's the first of ten straight at home; they are tied with the Giants 5 1/2 games behind the Dodgers in the National League West. They are also tied in the National League wild card standings.
