SHS GOLF - The Sheridan Bronc golfers started defense of their State Championship with a runaway win in the first tournament of the season at Kendrick Golf Course. The Broncs totaled just 593 strokes, out-distancing 2nd place Gillette by 49 shots.

All five players finished in the Top 10, led by Kamrin Allen, who finished 1st. Cameron Lindell was 2nd; Taylor Reed 8th; Toby Nicholas 9th; and Chris Cremer 10th. The Lady Broncs finished 7th overall. Both teams head to Gillette for an Invitational today and tomorrow.

The Broncs have received a great honor; this fall, the team has been invited to play in the 2009 McDonald's "Tournament of Champions" Team Tournament in Kingsport, Tennessee. They leave for the event the 2nd week in September. Broncs head coachLarry Martoglio. 15 teams will compete, including seven from Tennessee, three from Kentucky, two from Illinois, two from Virginia and the Broncs.

HS FOOTBALL - The high school football season opens this week as the Sheridan Broncs host the Casper Kelly Walsh Trojans Friday night. We will have the game live for you on AM 1410 KWYO. “The First Federal Savings Bank” pre-game show will start the broadcast at 6:30, with the kick-off at 7 o'clock.

The Tongue River Eagles,Big Horn Rams and Glenrock Herders will get together Saturday at Sheridan High School for a zero-week scrimmage.

Next week the Rams open the regular season on Thursday, September 3rd against Greybull; the game will be played at Homer Scott Stadium at 1 o'clock. The Eagles open Friday the 4th at home against Hulett at 2 o'clock.

HS SPORTS - The high school volleyball season opens this weekend with the Sheridan Lady Broncs and Big Horn Lady Rams at the Riverton Invitational, while the Tongue River Lady Eagles will open at a tournament in Lovell.

The Lady Bronc swimmers and divers open at the Casper relays Friday, then it's on to Gillette Saturday.

The cross-country teams open Friday in Casper. The Bronc and Lady Bronc tennis teams will play matches with Jackson and Riverton in Gillette Thursday, then the Lady Broncs head to Rapid City Friday for a 2-day tournament.

SHS BOOSTER CLUB - The Sheridan High School Booster Club will host the fall kick-off BBQ Wednesday evening starting at 5:30 at the high school. Then at 7 o'clock, the volleyball, swimming, tennis, cross-country and golf coaches will hold their player / parent meetings.

UW - The Wyoming Cowboys open September 5th in Laramie against Weber State.

NFL - The Denver Broncos lost 27-13 at Seattle this past Saturday. This week, the Broncos play their 3rd pre-season game at home Sunday night against former quarterback Jay Cutler and the Chicago Bears.

MLB - The Colorado Rockies are hosting a big series with the San Francisco Giants. The Giants took the first game Friday night, but the Rockies came back to win Saturday. Game 3 saw a dramatic come-from-behind win yesterday, with the Rockies down 2-1 in the 7th inning. Seth Smith came to the plate and hit a 2-run upper deck home run. That put the Rockies up 3-2, and they went on to win the game 4-2. The Rockies now have a 3-game lead over the Giants in the National League Wild Card race. They play Game 4 of the series this afternoon, then the Rockies have three at home with Division-leading Los Angeles starting tomorrow.
