AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL - The Sheridan Jets made it to the final day of the Wyoming junior American legion state baseball tournament before being eliminated Sunday afternoon. The Jets opened with wins over Casper and Gillette before losing to Cheyenne in the semi finals they lost in a loser out game to Casper yesterday head coach Ryan Murner it's always a tough day when the season ends but the jets played great during the tournament. The players made great strides during the season showing great improvement since the first few weeks of the season Murner says they started the tournament with two impressive victories but ran into a couple of hot teams. The Cheyenne Hawks rolled through the tournament and took the state title with a 17-1 rout of Casper in the championship game.
The Sheridan Troopers went 1-2 at the north district tournament and were eliminated from post season play Saturday they lost the opener to Cody and came back with a victory over Lovell before getting knocked out by Gillette Saturday morning.
NHSFR - The National high school finals rodeo concluded Saturday night in Farmington, New Mexico Megan Belus from Buffalo and Luke Camino from Clearmont did really well Belus finished 6th in the breakaway roping finals and finished 2nd in the average, Camino finished 3rd in the steer wrestling finals and 2nd in the average. Nikki Baumann from Sheridan finished 66th in breakaway roping and 59th in goat tying. Jake Gill from Wyola finished 45th in tie down roping, Taylor Kelly from Sheridan had no qualified rides in the saddle bronc event and former Sheridan resident representing Aiken, South Carolina Maggie Boyle was 11th in the barrel race average.
LOCAL GOLF - The Kendrick club championship finished up yesterday 53 players competed in the annual event.
The club Champion for 2009 made it a three-peat as Tyler Nicholas took the club title for the third consecutive year I asked Nicholas what was key to his success he shot 78 the first day but came back on day two and fired a 3-under par 69 to win the title by one shot over Bob Allen, Craig Hanson was 3rd two shots off the lead, so what was the difference yesterday when he was nine shots better. This weekend the Sheridan “City” Championship will be played the tournament is two rounds one at Kendrick and the other at the Sheridan country club players will be flighted by handicap and tee times will be assigned by tournament organizers they will take registration this week at both courses.
The second Sheridan county junior golf tournaments is being played at Kendrick today the final event is next Monday August 3rd at the Powder Horn the fee is ten dollars per player.
HIGH GOAL POLO - The Flying “H” polo club held the “Bob Tate” memorial cup Saturday and for the second straight week team "Bendabout” came out as the winner defeating team “Jan Pamela” 11-7 this week they host matches Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock and the “Bradford Brinton” memorial cup Saturday afternoon.
MLB - The Colorado Rockies took two out of three from the San Francisco Giants to take a two game lead in the national league wild card chase yesterday the “Rocks” took the final game of the series 4-2 they begin at 10 game road trip beginning with a four game series at the New York Mets tonight.
