COLLEGE BASKETBALL - Sheridan College Generals basketball coach Steve Smiley has announced his final recruit for the 2009 season: Smiley got confirmation this week that Kendrick Morse, a 5'7 point guard from Richton Park, Illinois, has committed to playing for the Generals this fall. Smiley says they are getting another good addition to the team.
Morse received numerous honors during his senior season in high school, including All-Conference and All-Area. He was also named to the Illinois All-State team. Last season he averaged 22 points, 5 assists and 2 steals per game, leading his team to a 19-8 record. Morse is the sixth and final player signed by the Generals for the 2009 season. Smiley talks about his first recruiting class. The Generals are coming off a 22-win season in Smiley's first season as head coach.
COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL - Sheridan College volleyball camps are coming up July 27 - 30; the age groups are K-5th grade and 6th - 12th grades. To register for the camps, contact Sheridan College volleyball coach Jonea Rima at 674-6446 ex: 4002.
The Lady Generals will also host a pre-season training camp for junior high and high school players which will run over two weeks. The dates will be August 5th, 6th and 7th; and the 10th, 11th and 12th.
PRO POLO - The 2009 season of High Goal polo is underway at the Flying “H” Polo Ranch. They play matches this afternoon beginning at 1 pm. Saturday they'll play the “Century 21” Cup at 1 o'clock. The Flying “H” has matches every Thursday and Saturday afternoons; the season runs through August 22nd.
AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL - The Sheridan Troopers play their final home double-header of the season Saturday when they host two with Rapid City Post #320. The first pitch will be tossed out at 1 o'clock. The Troops open post season play July 23rd at the North District Tournament in Casper.
The Sheridan Jets will close out their regular season Saturday on the road in Powell; they host the American Legion “B” State Tournament starting July 23rd at Thorne-Rider Stadium.
MLB - The Colorado Rockies open the second half of the Major League Baseball season tonight with the first game of a 4-game series at San Diego.
