06/30/08 Sports for Monday

The Sheridan Troopers hosted games with two out of state opponents over the weekend. They dropped both games with Oak Grove, Missouri on Friday night and split with Scottsbluff, Nebraska yesterday. Head coach Kyle Warnke: Audio. And after getting off to a slow start yesterday, the Troops were able to salvage one win on the weekend, beating Scottsbluff in the second game of the double header: Audio The Troops play a conference game at Gillette Wednesday. They are 0-3 against Gillette but had a good game with them two weeks ago. Warnke says they have confidence heading into the game with the Rough Riders: Audio.  The Troopers play at home Saturday afternoon against a split squad from Post#22 in Rapid City.

Maggie Boyle from Sheridan and Megan Belus from Buffalo have qualified for the National High School Finals Rodeo. The Wyoming State High School Rodeo concluded over the weekend in Douglas. Boyle will compete in the barrel race, and Belus will compete in both the barrel race and pole bending. The National High School Finals Rodeo opens July 20th in Farmington, New Mexico.

This Saturday, Sheridan Wyo Rodeo Week begins with the Dierks Bentley concert at the fairgrounds. Slack timed events open next Wednesday morning, with the first official performance of the 78th Sheridan Wyo Rodeo kicking off at 7 o’clock next Thursday. The KROE morning show will continue our tradition of broadcasting live in downtown Sheridan from all rodeo activates  next Friday, starting with the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast at 6am, and finishing up with the Wyo Rodeo parade. There will be a girls’ youth three-on-three volleyball tournament in Dayton Saturday, July 12th. The tournament will be played outdoors in Scott Bicentennial Park. There will be four age divisions: under-10, under-12, under-14 and under-16. The fee is $10 per player. Team fees and player registration can be sent to PO Box 225, Ranchester, Wyoming 82839.

The Sheridan Youth Activities Association will host their 6th annual fundraising golf tournament at Kendrick Golf Course the Saturday of Wyo Rodeo weekend. The tournament is a four person team scramble and will shot gun start at 9am. The cost is $100 per player, which includes the golf, cart, and complimentary food and beverages all day. They have lots of great pin prizes and raffle drawing prizes. Sheridan Motor has put up a new car for a hole in one prize and Valley Motor Honda has put up a “big dog” motorcycle for a hole in one prize. To enter your teams, stop by or call the Kendrick Golf Course Golf Shop 674-8148.

The early entry deadline to register for the Wyoming State Senior Olympics is this Saturday. Currently, the registration fee is $5 per event. That fee doubles after Saturday. As of Saturday, nearly 300 have registered so far, and that is expected to go up as the deadline approaches this weekend.

The Colorado Rockies have dropped seven straight after getting swept by Detroit over the weekend. Tonight, the Rockies open a home series against San Diego. Our next broadcast will come your way tomorrow night: Rockies and Padres tomorrow night at 6:30 on AM 14-10 KWYO.

 

06/27/08 Sports for Friday

Teams from Oak Grove, Missouri and Scottsbluff, Nebraska will be in Sheridan this weekend for games with the Sheridan Troopers. Troopers’ head coach Kyle Warnke: Audio.  The Troopers will play a double header this evening at 5 o’clock tomorrow. Oak Grove, Missouri will play Scottsbluff, Nebraska at 1 o’clock. Sunday, the Troops close out the weekend with two against Scottsbluff at noon. American Legion post #7 has made a donation to Sheridan American Legion baseball. Admission to all six games this weekend, including tonight’s Troopers’ double header will be free to all spectators, so go out to Thorne-Rider stadium this weekend. They have a great concession stand and free admission all weekend tonight at 5pm, tomorrow at 1pm and Sunday at noon.
 
Next week, the Troopers play at Gillette Wednesday and host Rapid City Post #22 split squad Saturday, July 5th. The Sheridan Jets will play in Lovell tomorrow and will host Lovell in their next home game Monday, July 7th..
Next week is the final week of early sign-up for the Wyoming State Senior Olympic Games. Early registration closes next Saturday. Currently, registration for competitors is $5 per event. After July 5th, the fee goes up. The local State Senior Games committee is urging all in Sheridan County 50 and older wanting to participate, to make sure you get signed up before the early registration deadline. Forms can be found at the Senior Center, the YMCA and on-line at www.wyseniorolympics.com .

Next week, Sheridan High School football coaches and wrestling coaches will host two youth camps. The wrestling camp is for 3rd through 12th grades, and the football camp is for 5th through 8th grades. The camps run Monday through Wednesday. The wrestling camp is free to all campers and will run in the afternoon from 3pm to 4:30pm. Helping out at the wrestling camp will be former Sheridan Bronc and current University of Wyoming wrestler Micha Kadera.

The football camp will run each evening from 5 to 6:30. The football camp fee is $10 per camper. For more information on either camp, contact Sheridan High School Activities Director Don Julian at 672-2495, extension 3106.

The Big Horn Polo Club will have a match at the Big Horn Events Center Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock.

In other local golf notes, Kendrick Golf Course will host another couples night Friday, July 18th. Couples are invited to come out and play a nine hole mini tournament following the golf. They have a carry-in dinner. Each couple is asked to bring a dish or dessert to share. Couples night play begins at 5:30. For more information, contact Donna at Kendrick Golf Course 674-8148.

There will be a girls’ youth outdoor three-on-three volleyball tournament in Dayton next month. The tournament will be played in Scott Bicentennial Park. There will be four age divisions: under-10, under-12, under-14, and under-16. Awards will be presented to first and second place in each age group. The fee is $10 per player. Again, this tournament is three-on-three and will be played Saturday, July 12th in Scott Bicentennial Park. To register teams, mail entries with team members to PO Box 225, Ranchester, Wyoming 82839.  Entries are limited to 15 teams per age division.

06/26/08 Sports for Thursday

A team from Oak Grove, Missouri and Scottsbluff, Nebraska will be Sheridan for a series of double headers with the Sheridan Troopers this weekend. All the action starts Friday evening at 5 o’clock with the Troopers playing Oak Grove. Saturday afternoon, Oak Grove will play Scottsbluff at 1 o’clock, and Sunday afternoon the Troops will play Scottsbluff at noon. The Troopers are 5-16 overall and just finished up a stretch where they played seven games in six days. Head coach Kyle Warnke says they’ve got to get the bats going as the get ready for action this week:Audio. Warnke says the offensive struggle has to be their focus, because for the most part the pitching and defense has been solid Audio. Again, the Troopers will play at home Friday evening at 5 o’clock against Oak Grove, Missouri.

The Colorado Rockies lost at Kansas City last night and were swept in the series by the Royals. They lost four straight. The Rocks are off today, and head to Detroit for a three game series with the Tigers starting tomorrow night. Broadcast time will be at 4:30 on AM 14-10 KWYO. Saturday’s game can be heard at 4:30, and Sunday’s at 10:30 in the morning.

The tournament is a fundraiser for the Youth Activities Association. It’s a four person team scramble and will start at 9 o’clock in the morning. This tournament has turned into one of the best scramble events in Sheridan. The cost is $100 per player, which includes the golf and complimentary food and beverages all day. All players will have a chance to win many major pin prizes and raffle drawings; and they will also have two hole in one prizes, including a new car courtesy of Sheridan Motors. Sheridan High School youth football and wrestling camps will be held next week. The wrestling camp is for all 3rd through 12th graders and is free. 2008 Sheridan Wyo Rodeo week is about 10 days away from beginning The Dierks Bentley concert is July 5th at the fairgrounds. The first performance of the rodeo is two weeks from today. Tickets can be purchased at the WYO Theater. In our long standing tradition, the KROE morning show will be broadcasting live in downtown Sheridan during rodeo week activities on Friday, July 11th, from the pancake breakfast through the rodeo parade. Our broadcast will once again be sponsored this year by Kurt Smith and the Sheridan Commercial Company.

This week’s Big Horn Events Center polo schedule has action on Sunday, June 29th. They will play the Lincoln Cup Sunday at 2 o’clock at the Big Horn Events Center. Next week is 4th of July weekend. They will have two matches on Sunday, July 6th at 1 and 3 pm.

Another season of professional high goal polo will begin at the Flying “H” Polo Club in July. The third season of high goal polo will begin with two preliminary matches Thursday, July 24th. The first tournament will be played Saturday, July 26th. The Flying “H” season runs through August 30th, and one highlight of this year’s season will be a fundraiser for the Downtown Sheridan Association for the Goose Creek Restoration Project. Last summer, a huge crowd came out for that event, making it a great success. The date for that match will be Sunday, August 17th.

 

06/25/08 Sports for Wednesday

The Sheridan Troopers played at Thorne-Rider Stadium last night, Riverton came in for a double header for the first time in two years since dropping down to the single “a” division the first game went into extra innings with the game tied at one-all Riverton scored three runs in the 8th to win the game 4-1 The loss wasted a great pitching performance from Ben Buckingham, Buckingham gave up only one run in 6 and two-thirds of an inning and had Riverton handcuffed but didn’t get any run support, Riverton jumped out to a quick lead in the second game the troopers stayed close Riverton led 6-5 but scored 4 runs in the 6th inning and put the game away taking it 10-6 Troops head coach Kyle Warnke said they couldn’t get the big hit: Audio. In the second game the bats were a little louder but the Troops left several runners on base: Audio. And Warnke says Buckingham has turned into a pretty good pitcher for the Troopers and just had tough luck last night: Audio. The Troopers have an overall season record of 5-16.

This weekend, the Troopers will have two teams in town to play three round robin double headers. A team from Oak Grove, Missouri and Scottsbluff, Nebraska will be in Sheridan. The Troops will play Oak Grove Friday night at 5 o’clock. On Saturday at 1 o’clock, Oak Grove will play Scottsbluff in an afternoon double header at 1, and Sunday the Troops will finish off the weekend with a noon double header against Scottsbluff.

Next week, Sheridan High School will host two youth camps. Sheridan Bronc wrestling coach Corey Hamrick will have a youth camp Monday through Wednesday for all 3rd through 12th grade wrestlers. The camp will be held in the Bronc wrestling room and is free to all participants.  Parents must sign a waiver form before the camp begins. Sessions run each day from 3:00 to 4:30. Campers are asked to enter Sheridan High School at the doors near the practice fields on the northwest side of the school.

Football coach Don Julian and his coaches will host a Bronc youth football camp Monday through Wednesday from 5 to 6:30 each evening on the practice fields at the high school. The camp is open to all football players from the 5th through 8th grades. The cost is $10 per camper. Fees will be collected before the camp opens Monday. Wyoming Wildlife Federation executive director Walt Gasson will host a meeting for local sportsmen tonight at 7 o’clock, at the Game and Fish office on 5th Street: Audio. Gasson talks about what the Federation would like to accomplish at tonight’s meeting: Audio. While appearing on KROE’s Public Pulse program yesterday, Gasson was asked what does the Federation do for Wyoming sportsmen? Audio. Again, tonight’s meeting is open to Federation members and any local sportsmen. It starts at 7 o’clock in the regional Game and Fish office.

The Sheridan Troopers are back home tonight. They host the Riverton Raiders. The first game of the double header will get underway at 5 o’clock.
  
The Sheridan Jets will be on the road for two double headers this week. Wednesday night they play at the Billings Lobos, and Saturday they play at Lovell. Their next home games will be July 7th, when they host Lovell in an evening double header at Thorne-Rider Stadium.
  
Early registration for the Wyoming State Senior Olympic Games set to begin in Sheridan in late July closes July 5th. The cost to register is $5 per event. After the 5th, that price goes up. The Sheridan Senior Olympic committee is encouraging anyone 50 and older who would like to compete in the games to get signed up as soon as possible. You can find registration forms at the Senior Center, the YMCA, and on line at www.wyseniorolympics.com.  The State Games will be held July 24th – 26th.

There will be a great opportunity for local youth next week. Sheridan High School will have a wrestling camp and football camp. The wrestling camp is for all 3rd through 12th graders. The camp is free, but parents have to sign a waiver. The camp will run Monday through Wednesday from 3pm to 4:30pm in the Sheridan High School wrestling room. Since the camp is free, there will be no pre-registration but waiver forms have to be signed. Please enter the school in back near the practice fields.

The football coaches will have their youth camp Monday through Friday as well. The camp costs $10 and will run each evening from 5pm to 6:30pm. They will take registration Monday before the camp opens at the Sheridan High School practice fields. 06/23/08 Sports for Monday

 The 33rd annual Wyoming / Montana All Star Basketball Series had the Montana teams winning two close games in Sheridan. The Wyoming girls fell behind and staged a great 4th quarter comeback. They led in the final minute. Montana tied the game with three seconds to go to force overtime, and went onto to win the game 78-70. The boys’ game was entertaining, with Montana getting out to big early lead, only to see the Wyoming All-Stars come back and take a second half lead. The game went back and forth until Montana got the advantage with two and a half minutes to play, and went onto win the game 93-88. In Billings on Saturday, the Wyoming girls got out to a 24 point first half lead, only to see Montana roar back and score an 84-74 win. In the boys game, a big second half by the Montana All-Stars put Wyoming away 102-90. Wyoming women’s coach Frank McCarthy:Audio.  And McCarthy says he had a great week with the Wyoming players: Audio.

On Saturday in Billings, the game was tied at halftime but the Montana players stayed hot, while the Wyoming All-Stars found scoring a little tougher and Montana was able to pull away. Coach Joel Davidson: Audio. On Friday night, the Wyoming All-Stars hit 17 three point shots; they just weren’t falling Saturday in Billings and Davidson says that was the big key in both games: Audio. Tongue River High School’s Rob Johnson has had quite a run the last three weeks since graduating as the valedictorian at Tongue River High School. Johnson has played in the Wyoming / South Dakota Basketball Series, then the Shrine Bowl where he was named the offensive player of the game. Johnson was named Wyoming’s Mr. Basketball for 2008 Friday night. Rob says he’s had a lot of fun to start his summer: Audio.

The Big Horn Mtn. Trail run went off with only one glitch: the course had to be changed at the last minute because of large snow drifts across the original course. Even with a last minute change, the race went off and turned into the fastest Big Horn Mtn. Trail Run ever. The winning time in the 100 mile race was 18 hours 56 minutes and 28 seconds by Jeff Browning from Oregon. Sheridan’s Wendel Robison competed in his 50th 100 mile event this year and he talked with us yesterday at the awards breakfast. First, they had great participation again this year: Audio. And Browning’s performance was outstanding: Audio. And as far as running an ultra-marathon, Robison says finishing comes down to being in good physical shape but the most important thing is mental toughness: Audio. And if you’ve ever thought about getting involved in these distance competitions, Robison says in Sheridan it’s pretty easy:Audio.

06/20/08 Sports for Friday

We’ll get started with baseball today. The Sheridan Troopers were to open a tournament in Cheyenne yesterday, but after one inning with Boulder, Colorado and the Troops up 5-0, rain washed out the game. So they’ll go again this afternoon, taking on a team from Colorado Springs.

The Sheridan Jets took two on the chin yesterday against the Billings Lobos. In the first game, the Lobos got off quick, scored nine times in the first inning, and went onto to win the game 18-2. In the second game, the Lobos shut out the Jets 10-0. Today, they’ll get right back on the field. The Jets host a double header tonight with Gillette. The first game is set to get underway at 5 o’clock.

The 33rd annual Wyoming / Montana High School All-Star Series opens tonight in the Hoffman Dome at Sheridan College. We will have both games for you live tonight on AM 14-10 KWYO. Broadcast time is 5:30, with the girls leading off at 6:00 and the boys’ game at 8.00
  
The Wyoming men’s team will be at height disadvantage, but they make up for that with great shooting. Wyoming head coach Joel Davidson gives us his impressions of this year’s Wyoming roster: Audio. Most basketball all-star games turn into a showcase for the individual player, but this series over the years has been much more, as both teams are in it for only one thing and that’s to win. As Davidson says that makes our series so unique: Audio. Davidson says fans know that all four teams will play very hard, and it is a great rivalry Audio. And what also makes the Wyoming / Montana series so much fun every year is how unpredictable the outcome can really be: Audio.  Again, the women’s game leads off at 6, with the men to follow at 8 tomorrow. We will be at Billings West High School also at 6pm and 8 pm. All four games can be heard live on our AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Big Horn Mtn. Wild and Scenic Trail Run gets underway this morning. The runners in the 100 mile race will start at 11 o’clock in the Tongue River Canyon tomorrow morning. The 50 mile, 50k, and 30 k races have staggered starts beginning at 6, 8 and 10am. The first finishers are expected in Scott Bicentennial Park in Dayton early in the afternoon tomorrow. Finishers will continue to cross the finish line into the evening. The race cutoff time is tomorrow night at 9 o’clock. The event concludes tomorrow morning at 8 o’clock, with an awards breakfast for all the competitors and volunteers on Grinnell Plaza in downtown Sheridan.

The Colorado Rockies swept the Cleveland Indians yesterday, winning 6-3. The Rockies have won 11 of their last 15 games and will host a weekend series starting today with the New York Mets. Our next Rockies broadcast will be next Tuesday, when they play at Kansas City.

06/19/08 Sports for Thursday

The annual Wyoming / Montana All-Star Basketball Series tips off tomorrow night at Sheridan College, and the Big Horn Mtn. Wild and Scenic Trail Run opens tomorrow as well. The 100 mile race starts in the Tongue River Canyon. Due to deep snow on some of the traditional trails, race officials had to alter this year’s race course. The shorter distance events will start Saturday, with finishers expected to arrive at the finish line in Scott Bicentennial Park in Dayton beginning in the afternoon Saturday.

The first two games of this year’s All-Star Basketball Series will be played in the Hoffman Dome at Sheridan College tomorrow night. The girls lead off at 6pm, with the boys at 8 o’clock. We will broadcast both games live for you on AM 14-10 KWYO. Broadcast time is set for 5:30. Saturday’s games will be played at Billings West High School, also at 6pm and 8pm.

The Sheridan High School football coaches will have their youth football camp starting June 30th. The high school is also pleased to announce they will also have a youth wrestling camp beginning June 30th at the high school. Clinicians will be Sheridan High School wrestling coach Corey Hamrick and  former Bronc and current University of Wyoming wrestler Micha Kadera. The wrestling camp will be held in the Bronc wrestling room at the high school and will run June 30th through July 2nd. It’s  open to all Sheridan wrestlers from the 3rd through 12th grades. The camp will run each afternoon from 3pm to 4:30pm. Campers should enter the school at the rear entrance near the practice fields behind the school. Registration will be taken when the camp opens on the 30th.

The football camp will run the 30th through July 2nd on the Bronc practice field from 5 to 6:30 each evening. Registration will be taken before the first sessions opens on the 30th. There is no cost for the wrestling camp, but each parent must sign a wavier form before their campers can participate. The cost of the football camp is $10. All wrestling and football campers should wear clothing appropriate for each sport, including shorts, t-shirt and footwear. Sheridan High School football coach Don Julian says these camps are just a start for the high school coaches to get Sheridan youth more involved in their programs: Audio. In local baseball action, the Sheridan Troopers leave Sheridan today and will open a four day tournament in Cheyenne. They will play five games. The Troops return to Sheridan for more home games next Tuesday, when they host a double header with Riverton.

The Sheridan Jets will play at home this afternoon. They host a double header with the Billings Lobos at 3 o’clock. Tomorrow, they host two with Gillette beginning at 5 o’clock.

The summer polo season has opened at the Big Horn Polo Club, at the Big Horn Events Center this weekend. They play Sunday. The Big Horn Cup will be played at 2 o’clock. The Flying “H” Polo Ranch in Big Horn will open its season of professional polo July 24th, with the first big matches on July 26th. The Flying “H” season will run through August 30th.

The Colorado Rockies beat the Cleveland Indians for the second straight game last night 4-2. The Rocks conclude the series at Coors Field tonight, and you can hear the game live at 6:30pm on AM 14-10 KWYO.

Sheridan College Lady Generals basketball coach Frank McCarthy is hosting his youth basketball camp this week, plus the Wyoming All-Star Basketball teams arrive in Sheridan today and the recruiting season continues. First up, McCarthy has a gym full of young girls participating in his camp this week: Audio. The Wyoming All-Star Basketball players will be arriving in Sheridan today to begin two days of preparation for this weekend’s games with the Montana teams. Last week, I asked men’s coach Joel Davidson if he thought they my have an advantage because the players have already played in the South Dakota series. McCarthy says if it’s an advantage, we’ll find out Friday night: Audio. McCarthy has seen all these players in action during their high school playing days, and likes the team they’ve been able to put together: Audio.  McCarthy’s recruiting for the Lady Generals for next season continues, and he’s been pleased with what they’ll picked up so far: Audio. Games Friday night at the Hoffman Dome go off at 6 and 8pm. Both can be heard live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Broadcast time Friday night will be at 5:30.

The Big Horn Mtn. Wild and Scenic Trail Run opens Friday with the start of the 100 mile race at 11am in the Tongue River Canyon. The 50 mile, 50k, and 30k races will start Saturday morning with staggered starts at 6, 8 and 10am. The finish line is in Scott Bicentennial Park in Dayton, and they expect the first finishers early in the afternoon Saturday. Runners are expected to arrive through the evening. Cut-off time is 9 o’clock Saturday night. The event ends Sunday morning on Grinnell Plaza in downtown Sheridan with an awards breakfast for all competitors and volunteers at 8am.

In baseball action this week, the Sheridan Jets will play home double headers tomorrow and Friday. They host the Billings Lobos tomorrow at 3pm, and Friday they play Gillette at 5pm. The Sheridan Troopers leave for Cheyenne tomorrow for a tournament. They’ll play five games before returning home for games with Riverton next Tuesday.

The Colorado Rockies hosted the Cleveland Indians in inter-league play last night. They took game one 10-2. Tonight’s game can be heard live at 6:30pm, and tomorrow night at 6:30pm on AM 14-10 KWYO. For the first time in the 33 year history of the Wyoming / Montana All-Star Basketball Series the Wyoming All-Star will already have played together before the annual series with our neighbors to the north. Two weeks ago, the Wyoming All-Stars took three out of four games in their series with South Dakota. Our series in Sheridan was moved back two weeks this year because of a scheduling conflict in Billings. I asked Wyoming boys’ head coach Joel Davidson if the Wyoming teams have an advantage, since they were able to play a couple of games together already: Audio. Game times Friday night will be at 6 and 8 o’clock in the Hoffman Dome. We will broadcast both games live for you on AM 14-10 KWYO. Broadcast time is 5:30pm. We will also be with the all-stars in Billings Saturday. Both games can be heard on AM 14-10 KWYO at 6pm and 8pm.

The Wyoming State Senior Olympic Games will be held in Sheridan for three days beginning July 24th. The early registration deadline is fast approaching. Currently, it costs $5 per event registered, but after July 5th that cost goes up. Here’s State Games Coordinator Jim Eggenberger: Audio. Along with all the events and activities, the Sheridan Olympic Committee once again will be awarding hundreds of gold, silver, and bronze medals. Eggenberger says those medals have turned into great collectibles:Audio . Roger Wilson is on the Sheridan Committee, and is the event commissioner for the canoe racing. Wilson talks about how he got involved in Senior Olympics: Audio. The games are open to anyone 50 years of age and older. In local baseball action this week, the Sheridan Jets will play home games Thursday and Friday. Thursday’s double header with the Billings Lobos will be played at 3 o’clock, and Friday’s double header with Gillette will start at 5 o’clock.

The Sheridan Troopers are on the road this week. They head to Cheyenne Thursday to open a five game tournament that runs through Sunday. The Troopers’ next home date will be June 24th ,.when they host two games with Riverton.

The Sheridan High School football coaches will host a youth football camp for all 5th through 8th grade players June 30th through July 2nd. The camp cost $10 per camper, and will be held at the Sheridan High School practice fields from 5pm to 6:30pm each evening. Registration will be taken before the camp opens on the 30th.

The Atlanta Braves beat the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field last night. Tonight, you can hear game two live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Broadcast time is at 6:30pm.

The 35th Annual Shrine Bowl football game was played Saturday night in Casper. The north team was represented by five Sheridan County players. They were Rob Johnson from Tongue River, Thomas Nowakowski and Jake St. John from Big Horn, and Josh Dunkleberger and Ryan Morton from Sheridan High School. It was Johnson that stole the show, scoring twice as the north took the game over the south 16-10. Johnson threw for one touchdown and scored the game winner on a one yard run in the 4th quarter. Johnson comments on being named the game’s offensive MVP: Audio. The game winning drive was a 15 play 80 yard drive, capped off by Johnson’s one yard dive. He says it was a great way to win the game: Audio. Johnson excelled in both football and basketball. While playing at Tongue River, he was a six time All-State selection in football and basketball. The big left handed qb will play basketball at Black Hills State this fall, and Johnson says he picked basketball over football because it’s really his first love: Audio.  

You’ll get to see Johnson play in Sheridan one more time this week. He is on the Wyoming All-Star team that will play the Montana All-Stars in the Wyoming / Montana All-Star Basketball Serie.s Games one and two will be played at Sheridan College Friday night at 6 and 8 o’clock and will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO. .Joining Johnson on team Wyoming will be two Sheridan Lady Broncs: Laura Wuist and Erica Stender..The Wyoming teams have already played in the South Dakota series. The Wyoming teams took three out of the four games two weeks ago.

The Sheridan Jets were in action over the weekend. They split a double header with Worland Saturday, winning the first game 14-13 and coming up short in the 2nd game 11-9. This week, the Jets have home dates Thursday and Friday. They play the Billings Lobos Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock and Friday evening at 5 o’clock against Gillette. The Sheridan Troopers will be heading out on the road this week. They will play five games at a tournament in Cheyenne. That tournament starts Thursday.

Another big event on the local scene this week is the 2008 big Horn Mtn. Wild and Scenic Trail Run. The 100 miles race begins in the Tongue River Canyon Friday with the 50 mile, 50k, and 30k races starting Saturday. The finish line opens Friday afternoon and will run into the night in Scott Bicentennial Park in Dayton. The event wraps up with an awards breakfast for all the contestants and volunteers on Grinnell Plaza in downtown Sheridan.

Last Friday, we heard from Sheridan Wyo Rodeo board member Zane Garstad. The 78th annual Wyo is just 3 and half weeks away. In the last 15 years, the Wyo has grown into one of the top rodeos on the PRCA circuit, and Garstad talks about what makes the Wyo such a successful event: Audio. Wyo Rodeo Week kicks off Saturday, July 5th with the Dirks Bentley Concert at the fairgrounds, and the first performance of the rodeo will be Thursday, July 10th.

The Sheridan Bronc football team just wrapped up their first summer football camp at the University of Wyoming. 33 Broncs participated in the camp last week. The team will also compete at a camp at Black Hills State in Spearfish this summer, and the Bronc coaches will be hosting a youth football camp for all 5th through 8th grade players. The camp will run June 30th through July 2nd and will be held at Sheridan High School. The camp will run each evening from 5 to 6:30 pm. .The cost of the camp is just $10 per camper. Registration will take place before the camp begins on the 30th.

The Colorado Rockies beat the Chicago White Sox yesterday and have won eight of their last 11 games. The Rocks open a four game series with the Atlanta Braves at Coors Field tonight. Our next broadcast will be tomorrow night at 6:30 live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

In his younger years Zane Garstad was a professional bull rider when he moved to Wyoming with his family He became the rodeo coach at Sheridan College Since then he’s not riding bulls anymore and has been in the Sheridan College admissions office for many years. 15 years ago Garstad joined the Sheridan WYO Rodeo Committee. I had a chance to visit with Garstad this week, as we are only a month out from the start of the Wyo Rodeo. First, how are preparations going? Audio.

The WYO has seen a huge transformation in the last dozen plus years, becoming one of the top rodeos in the country: Audio. Along with transforming the WYO into a world class rodeo, the Sheridan County Fairgrounds have grown as well with the event over the years: Audio.  One Monday, we will have more of our conversation with Garstad. The 78th WYO Rodeo Week kicks off with a concert by Dirks Bentley July 5th, with the first performance set for Thursday, July 10th.

Work at Homer Scott Stadium is going full bore this week, as the main feature of the project - the new artificial turf field - is now being installed. That’s not the only work going on at the high school. The main gym in the school started getting a facelift last fall, with new lighting and new score boards. Athletic director Don Julian says when fans attend basketball games next season, they will see a whole new look to the gym floor Audio. This week, the Broncs are down in Laramie for the Cowboy Football Camp, and Julian says the students are working hard to make the most of their off season workouts Audio. And finally, Julian says the coaches at the school are concentrating more on working with younger kids in School District Two Audio. The Bronc coaches will host their football camp for 5th through 8th graders June 30th-July 2nd. The camp will cost $10, and will be held at Sheridan High School in the evenings from 5:00 to 6:30 pm.

In local baseball action, the Sheridan Jets play their next games at home Saturday afternoon They take on Worland at 1 o’clock. The Troopers are off for a week; they head to a tournament in Cheyenne a week from today, where they’ll play five games.

The Colorado Rockies played the San Francisco Giants last night, and won for the second straight night 1-0 in a rare pitchers duel at Coors Field. They finish out the series with the Giants today, and head to Chicago for another round of inter league play with the White Sox tomorrow through Sunday. All three games can be heard live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Friday’s game will be on at 5:30, Saturday at 4:30, and Sunday morning at 11:30.

We are a week away from two big annual events in Sheridan, the Wyoming / Montana All Star Basketball Series begins a week from tomorrow, and the Big Horn Mtn. Wild and Scenic Trail Run begins next Friday as well. The All Star games in Sheridan will be played next Friday at Sheridan College at 6pm and 8pm. Games three and four will be in Billings next Saturday.

The 100-mile event of the Big Horn Mtn. Wild and Scenic Race starts next Friday, with the 50 mile, 50k and 30k races starting next Saturday. Both shorter distance races are sold out. The finish line will be in Scott Bicentennial park in Dayton. Finishers are expected all afternoon and into the evening next Saturday. The event concludes with an awards breakfast on Grinnell Plaza next Sunday morning.

The Sheridan College Lady Generals Basketball Camp for girls will be held next Monday through Thursday. The camp is for all Sheridan County girls from the 1st grade through 12th grade. They will take registration before the first session opens Monday morning at 9 o’clock. The cost of the camp is $85. Each camper gets four days of basketball instruction and playing time, plus each player gets their own basketball to keep. The Generals Camp for boys wraps up today.

The summer season of athletic camps is underway. Yesterday, I made a trip out to Sheridan College to look in on the Sheridan College Generals Basketball Camp. Dozens of players from kindergarten through the 7th grade will begin the third day of camp today. Generals’ head coach Joel Davidson: Audio.  And I asked Davidson if he’s seen any future Generals: Audio. Along with summer basketball camp, Davidson is in the middle of signing his recruiting class for next season. He already has two commitments from players from Milwaukee, and in the last few days got another commitment: Audio. And next week, new Lady Generals volleyball coach Jonae Ripka will be in Sheridan: Audio. Generals Basketball Camp runs through tomorrow.

The players that will make up the Wyoming All-Star Basketball teams will arrive in Sheridan next Wednesday to get ready for the Wyoming / Montana All-Star Series. Several of the players competed in the Wyoming / South Dakota Series that wrapped up Monday. The first two games will be played in the Hoffman Dome at Sheridan College. Next Friday the 20th, games will be played at 6pm and 8pm and can be heard live on our am 14-10 KWYO.

The Sheridan Troopers played in Rapid City last night and lost both ends of a double header against Post #320. They dropped the first game 10-0 and the second game 4-0. They didn’t hit the ball well at all, picking up just three hits in each game. Today, they play two in Spearfish and then are off for a week until they head to a tournament in Cheyenne a week from Thursday.

The Colorado Rockies whipped San Francisco 10-5 last night. They’ve now won five out of their last six games, and Matt Holiday returned to the line-up last night after coming off the 15 day dl. The 2008 Sheridan Media Benefit Golf Tournament was another big success, as 88 golfers teed it up for the Sheridan Public Arts Committee this past Friday. Tournament director and arts committee member Kim Love: Audio. Funds raised during this year’s tournament will go to the arts committee to purchase more permanent sculptures for downtown Sheridan, and with almost $12,000 raised this year from the tournament, that money will go to purchase three more pieces for downtown Sheridan: Audio. Thursday, Celebrate the Arts Week kicks off at the library Audio. And Love says 2008 has been a big year for the Public Arts Committee: Audio.

Another Sheridan College General has signed to continue his college basketball career. Former Generals point guard Cedric Coffi has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at the University of South Carolina Upstate. The Spartans are a 2nd year division one school. Coffi was a two year starter for head coach Joel Davidson.

The summer high school all-star basketball games are underway, as the Wyoming All-Stars that will compete in Sheridan in two weeks took three out of four games from the South Dakota All-Stars. The South Dakota Series usually takes place the week following the games with Montana, but there was a change of dates for the Montana series, so our All Stars have two games as a tune up for the main event. The 2008 addition of the Wyoming / Montana High School All-Star Basketball Series will take place June 20th and 21st. The games in Sheridan will be played on the 20th at 6pm and 8pm; and in Billings on Saturday the 21st, also at 6pm and 8pm. All four games will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO.
                                                                            
That same weekend, the annual Bighorn Mountain Wild and Scenic Trail Run will take place. The 100 mile race begins Friday the 20th. The 50 miler, 30k and 50k all begin on Saturday morning, with the finish late in the afternoon and into the evening in Scott Bicentennial Park in Dayton.

The Prime Rate Motors roping schedule is out for this summer. Tom Benedict is hosting the events this year. The next roping will be this Friday, and also on June 29th. There will be seven dates in July, starting with July 4th.They will also have three dates in August including the Silver Bullet Classic team roping August 16th and 17th. The Sheridan Troopers games this past Friday were called off because of weather. Now, the Troops take their 4-7 record out onto the road for nine straight away from home. They play road double headers in Rapid City and Spearfish tomorrow and Wednesday. Then to Cheyenne for five games at a tournament the 19th through the 22nd. Their next home games will be June 24th against Riverton.

The Sheridan Jets play their next games at home Saturday afternoon against Worland.

There will be a Sheridan Senior Olympics Clinic tonight at the Sheridan Junior High School track. Anyone age 50 and older is encouraged to attend. They will be demonstrating field events at tonight’s clinic. The clinic will start at 5:30. There is no registration; all interested are asked to be ready to go at 5:30.

 The Big Horn Mtn. Wild and Scenic Trail Run is coming up in two weeks. The shorter events are sold out. The 30k, 50k, are full. Registration for the event will take place Thursday. The 100 mile race starts the event Friday, June 20th at 11am. Registration for the 30k, 50k, and 50 mile events will be at Sheridan High School Friday from 2pm to 6 pm, with a big pasta dinner Friday night beginning at 4 o’clock at Ole’s. Those races will get underway Saturday. The 50 miler goes at 6am; the 50k at 8 am; and the 30k at 10am. The finish line will be in Scott Bicentennial Park in Dayton. The Big Horn Wild and Scenic ends Sunday morning with awards and a breakfast on Grinnell Plaza.

Sheridan College basketball camps open this week. The boys’ camp will run today through Thursday. The girls’ camp will be next week Monday through Thursday. They will take registration for the boys’ camp this morning before the camp opens at 9am. The boys’ camp is for all 1st through 9th graders. Last Friday, we heard from Sheridan High School activities director Don Julian about the stadium project at Sheridan High School. Today, Julian gets us up to date with a review of the 2007-08 school year for activities at Sheridan High School. Julian says this past year was good for activities for the Broncs and Lady Broncs: Audio. Not only did the students perform well in their sports and activities, they also got it done in the classroom Audio. And with that good news, Julian says in this upcoming school year they are raising the bar for all students in activities: Audio.  And finally, as the summer begins, new Sheridan High School girls’ basketball coach Derek Bissitt will be in Sheridan to begin off-season work with the Lady Broncs: Audio.

Rain has slowed down but not stopped the new improvements to Homer Scott Stadium. Sheridan High School football coach Don Julian updates us on what’s happening: . Sheridan College has a new volleyball coach. Sheridan College ad Joel Davidson has announced the hiring of Jonea Rima as the next head coach of the Lady Generals' volleyball program. Rima comes to Sheridan College from Clarendon College in Clarendon, Texas. She takes over the program after former coach Todd Cooper resigned back in April. Rima has coaching experience from the University of Louisiana –Monroe and at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri as an assistant and head coach; plus three years as the head coach at Clarendon College. Rima plans to be in Sheridan by the end of June.

The Sheridan Troopers will play at home tonight .The Troopers are 4-7 overall and will host two games with Laurel, Montana. The first game is set to get underway at 5 o’clock.

The Sheridan Jets will open up a three day tournament today in Rapid City. The next home games for the Jets will be next Saturday when they host two with Worland.

The annual Wyoming / Montana All-Star Basketball Series is two weeks later this summer. The four game series will take place Friday and Saturday, June 20th and 21st. The first two games will be played in the Hoffman Dome at Sheridan College on the 20th at 6pm and 8pm, and then up to Billings and Rocky Mtn. College on the 21st. All four games will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Four area players will compete for Team Wyoming. There are three from Sheridan County. They are former Sheridan Lady Broncs Laura Quist and Erica Stender. Playing for the boys team will be Rob Johnson from Tongue River High School, Jared Anderson from Buffalo.

The Sheridan State Senior Olympic Committee will host a track and field clinic Monday. The clinic is open to anyone age 50 and older who would like to know more about some of the events for this summer’s State Senior Games. They will be demonstrating field events, including the long jump, high jump, pole vault, javelin, shot put and discus. All will get a chance to try out these events. Sheridan High School track coach Eric Frey will conduct the clinic. It will be held Monday at 5:30 at the Sheridan Junior High School Track. The clinic is free. There is no registration. Anyone 50 and older who wants to participate is asked to be at the Junior High track ready to go Monday night. Wyoming State Senior Games coordinator Jim Eggenberger will join us next Saturday on our Coaches Show with a State Games update.

Tomorrow, the Wyoming Cowboy Joe Club hosts the Michael Phillips Scholarship Golf Tournament at the Powder Horn. Sunday, the Kalif Shrine clowns host their tournament at Kendrick Golf Course. 06/05/08 Sports for Thursday

The Sheridan Troopers opened up conference play at Thorne- Rider Stadium last night. Rain threatened all night, but the players kept playing through it. The game was finally called after six innings with Gillette coming out on top by a score of 7-4. Troopers coach Kyle Warnke says the players did a great job of ignoring the rain and playing through it: Audio.  Gillette broke through to take a 5-0 lead in the 3rd inning, but the Troopers came back. With field conditions deteriorating fast, the Troops were down 7-4, had the bases loaded in the last inning, but came up short: Audio. Kyle Geiselman got the start last night and got relief from Ben Buckingham. Warnke says both did a nice job: Audio. And even though they stayed with the Roughriders and came back. Warnke says in the end it’s still a disappointing loss: Audio.  Next up for the Troopers is a home double header tomorrow night against Laurel, Montana. The first game will start at 5 o’clock. The Troopers won’t play at home again until June 24th.

The Sheridan Jets will play at a three day tournament in Rapid City this weekend. Following the road trip, the Jets will play three straight at home June 14th, 19th and 20th.

The Sheridan Media Benefit Golf Tournament will be played tomorrow at Kendrick Golf Course. Local golfers have made sure this year’s tournament will be a big success, because the tournament is sold out with 84 players set to tee off tomorrow afternoon. Proceeds from the tournament go to the Sheridan Public Arts Committee. Next week is Celebrate the Arts Week in Sheridan, with three days of activities beginning at the library next Wednesday?

Local golfers have also stepped up to support the Michael Phillips Scholarship at the University of Wyoming. Mike’s mom and dad, Bill and Cindy Phillips, started the Michael Phillips scholarship to honor their son who passed away in a car accident. The Wyoming Cowboy Joe Club joined them in supporting the scholarship by hosting their annual golf tournament in his name at the Powder Horn Golf Club. Proceeds from the tournament Saturday go to the scholarship to support University of Wyoming student athletes. The tournament Saturday is sold out, as it has been for the past several years

The Kalif clowns will have their fundraising golf tournament Sunday at Kendrick Golf Course. It’s a four person scramble. To register your teams or as a single player, stop by the Kendrick Golf Course Pro Shop.

The Wyoming State Senior Olympic Games will be in Sheridan July 24th – 26th. Local State Games organizers will host a free track and field clinic for anyone 50 years of age and older Monday evening at the Sheridan Junior High track. Sheridan High School track coach Eric Frey will conduct the clinic. They will be demonstrating field events including the long jump, high jump, discus, shot put, javelin and pole vault. The clinic is free, there is no registration. Just be at the Sheridan Junior High track Monday evening at 5:30pm.Registration continues for the State Senior Olympics. 06/04/08 Sports for Wednesday

The Sheridan Troopers are 4-6 overall, and open conference play with Gillette tonight. They’ve won four out of their last six games, and hit the ball well on and off this past weekend. Coach Kyle Warnke says they need to keep it going tonight: Audio.  This season, Wyoming teams are playing single nine inning games for conference play instead of seven inning double headers. Tonight’s game will start at seven o’clock. Following tonight’s game, the Troops will play at home again Friday night. They host a double header Friday with Laurel Montana starting at five. That will be their last home date until June 24th. Also starting today is Trooper baseball camp. Trooper Camp is for all Sheridan Webb Wright Baseball players. The camp opens this morning at nine o’clock. You can register players at Thorne-Rider Stadium before the camp starts this morning. The camp runs today through Friday from nine to noon.

The Sheridan Jets will play at a tournament this week in Rapid City. The tournament starts Friday and runs through Sunday. The Jets next home games will be next Saturday, June 14th when they host two with Worland.

Golf tournaments have become a wonderful way for groups to raise funds for everything from scholarships for students, to helping out the Dog and Cat Shelter. This week, Sheridan is hosting three great fundraising golf outings. Two will be at Kendrick Golf Course, and one at the Powder Horn. Friday Sheridan Media hosts the benefit golf tournament to kickoff Public Arts Week in Sheridan. The tournament is sold out as far as golfers are concerned. Money raised Friday goes to the Sheridan Public Arts Committee. Sheridan Public Arts Week activities will take place next week starting Wednesday.

The Wyoming Cowboy Joe will host the Michael Phillips Scholarship Golf Tournament at the Powder Horn Saturday. That tournament is also sold out. Proceeds go to the Michael Phillips Scholarship at the University of Wyoming to benefit student athletes. The tournament is part of the annual Cowboy Joe Club Summer Golf Series..

The clinic will be conducted by Sheridan High School track coach Eric Frey. Demonstrated during the clinic will be field events, including the long jump, high jump, shot put, discus, javelin, and pole vault. The clinic is free and is open to anyone 50 and older. It will be held Monday evening at 5:30 at the Sheridan Junior High track. There is no registration. All interested are just asked to show up at the track ready to go.

The Colorado Rockies line-up has decimated by injuries. They’ve fallen 13 games back in the National League West. They’ve  been on the road for nine games and head back to Coors Field to host a weekend series with Milwaukee. Our next Rockies broadcast will be Friday evening at 6:30 on AM 14-10 KWYO.. The Big Horn Mountain Wild and Scenic Trail Run returns to the Big Horns June 20th and 21st. The 30k, 50k and 50 miles events are full. The 100 mile race will start the event Friday morning June 20th on the Tongue River Canyon Road. The 50 mile, 50k and 30k races will begin Saturday. The finish will be in Dayton at Scott Bicentennial Park. A post race picnic will take place all afternoon and into the evening in the park, with the official race cutoff time of 9 pm on Saturday, June 21st. On Sunday morning, June 22nd organizers will host a breakfast and awards ceremony on Grinnell Plaza in downtown Sheridan.

 

06/03/08 Sports for Tuesday

The Sheridan Troopers have an overall record of 4-6 as they get ready to open conference play tomorrow night. They host the Gillette Roughriders, who are one of the favorites to win a State Title. This summer, they will host the State Tournament in August and were the runner-up to Cheyenne in last year’s State Tournament. The Troops host the Roughriders tomorrow night in a single nine inning game at Thorne-Rider Stadium. Head coach Kyle Warnke says this is the Troops’ first “big game” of the season: Audio. Pitching will be the thing that can neutralize the Gillette hitters, and Warnke says after a couple of days off they’ll be at full strength tomorrow night: Audio. The first pitch is scheduled to be tossed out at 7 o’clock.

Trooper baseball camp opens Wednesday and runs through Friday. The camp is open to all Webb Wright players. The camp will be held at Thorne-Rider Stadium each day from 9am to noon. You can register at Thorne-Rider Stadium Wednesday morning before the camp begins.

The Sheridan Jets will be on the road this week They head to a tournament in Rapid City. Games will be played Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The next home game for the Jets will be Saturday, June 14th when they host a double header with Worland.

The Big Horn basketball camp begins today. Big Horn Lady Rams basketball coach Mike Daley opens his girls and boys basketball camp today. Registration for the girls’ camp opens at 7:30, with the girls session today, tomorrow, and Thursday running from 8am to noon. The boys’ session will run today through Thursday from 1pm to 5pm. Registration for the boys will open at noon today.

The Sheridan College Generals basketball camp for boys runs June 9-12. The camp is open to boys in the 1st through 9th grades each day. The camp runs from 9 until noon. The Sheridan College Lady Generals basketball camp for girls runs June 16-19 for girls in the 1st through 12th grades. The camp runs each day from 9am to noon. The annual Wyoming / Montana High School All-Star Basketball Series is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, June 20th and 21st. Games in Sheridan will be played Friday the 20th in the Hoffman Dome at Sheridan College and 6pm and 8 pm. Games Saturday will be played at Rocky Mtn. College in Billings on the 21st at 6pm and 8pm, and all four games will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

Entries for golfers for the Sheridan Media Benefit Golf Tournament have been closed. The tournament set for Friday is sold out. Eighty-four players will play in this annual event to raise money for the Sheridan Public Arts Committee. The tournament tees off Friday afternoon at Kendrick Golf Course. The Colorado Rockies played at the Los Angeles Dodgers last night, and their losing streak has reached eight straight after dropping an 8-2 decision to the Dodgers. The Rocks and Dodgers continue the series tonight in LA. You can hear the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Broadcast time is 7:30pm.

The clinic will be held Monday evening from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the Sheridan Junior High School track. The clinic is for anyone 50 years and older. Sheridan High School track coach Eric Frey will conduct the clinic for field events, including the long jump, pole vault, discus, shot put, javelin, and high jump. Again, this clinic is free for anyone 50 and over. Just show up Monday evening at 5:30pm at the Sheridan Junior High School track and begin preparation for the Wyoming State Senior Olympic Games July 24th through 26th in Sheridan. 06/02/08 Sports for Monday

The Sheridan Troopers had a busy weekend: they played six games in three days, and ended up winning four out of six, including a double header split at home yesterday against the Billings Lobos. The Troops opened the weekend Friday night, sweeping a double header against Miles City, Montana.  On Saturday, they split two games in Laurel, Montana. Yesterday, they lost the first game 6-3 and took game two 9-1. Head coach Kyle Warnke says after losing four games to open the season, the players got on track, winning four games over the weekend: Audio. The Trooper pitching staff really got tested with so many games in a three day span Warnke had to pitch some players who normally don’t pitch; each of the pitchers this past weekend did a great job: Audio. Now, they get a short rest and get ready to open conference play Wednesday: Audio. The Troopers and Gillette will play a one nine inning game Wednesday night at Thorne-Rider Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled to be tossed out at 6 o’clock.

The 2008 Hoop Jam had a great run this past weekend in downtown Sheridan. Tim Daniels, who is an assistant coach for the Sheridan Broncs, had a team of 6th and 7th graders in the tournament and says it’s great to see all the kids out playing basketball: Audio. And with school letting out for the summer this past Friday, it was a good way to end the school year, even though Daniels along with other school teachers will be back in class today: Audio.  This was the 8th Annual Hoop Jam. Proceeds from the tournament support the athletic training program in School Districts Number One and Two. Tournament founder Mike McCafferty says it was great to see so many people in downtown Sheridan: Audio.  And McCafferty says the Hoop Jam is a great event to kickoff summer in Sheridan County: Audio.

We have a couple more events that will bring people to Sheridan in June, and both events take place on the same weekend. The annual Wyoming / Montana All-Star High School Basketball Series will be played June 21st and 22nd. This year, the games are two weeks later than normal because of scheduling problems in Billings. The first two games will be played in the Hoffman Dome at Sheridan College Friday night, June 20th at 6pm and 8pm, and in Billings on the 21st at Rocky Mtn. College. All four games will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO Three Sheridan County players will compete for team Wyoming this year. Laura Quist and Erica Stender from Sheridan High School will play with the girls, and Rob Johnson from Tongue River High School will play for the boys, along with Jared Anderson from Buffalo High School.

The other big event taking place on that weekend is the Big Horn Wild and Scenic Trail Run. Curt Schwamb is organizing volunteers for the event. They need help at the finish line on June 21st in Scott Bicentennial Park in Dayton. They need timers, spotters, and other to help the runners when they finish. They will have two shifts, from 11am to 4 o’clock and from 4 o’clock to 9 o’clock. They would also like to find some volunteers to help out with registration on Friday the 20th from 2pm to 6 pm. Big Horn High School girls basketball coach Mike Daley will host his boys and girls Big Horn Basketball Camp this week. The camp opens tomorrow and runs through Thursday. The camp is split into two sessions. The girls session will run in the morning from 8am to noon. Registration will open tomorrow morning at 7:30am at the Big Horn High School gym. The session for the boys will run in the afternoon from 1pm to 5 pm. Registration for the boys will open tomorrow at noon. Saley will have two former Sheridan County All-State basketball players helping out at the camp. Former Tongue River Lady Eagles and current Black Hills State player Courtney Johnson, and former Sheridan Lady Bronc and current Montana Grizzly Stephanie Stender will both be clinicians for the camp.

Sheridan College basketball coaches Joel Davidson and Frank McCarthy will host their basketball camps in June, as well. The Generals’ camp for boys will be June 9th through the 12th at the Hoffman Dome. The camp will run each day from 9am to noon, and is open to all boys in grades one through nine. The Lady Generals’ camp will run June 16th through 19th and will also run from 9am to noon each day at the Hoffman Dome for girls grades one through twelve. All campers will get great basketball instruction in a fun environment, plus they get a t-shirt and their own basketball to keep. The Sheridan Media Benefit Golf Tournament will be played Friday afternoon at Kendrick Golf Course. Proceeds from the benefit golf tournament go to the Sheridan Public Arts Committee to aid them in purchasing more permanent art work for downtown Sheridan. The tournament kicks off Public Arts Week. Events will take place in Sheridan next week.
