02/29/08 Sports for Friday The Sheridan Lady Broncs open up their Regional Tournament today in Cheyenne. They’ll face Cheyenne Central in one of the semi final games. The Lady Broncs beat Central twice during the regular season. The Sheridan College basketball teams open up their region nine tournaments tomorrow. The Lady Generals open the tournament in Miles City against Lamar, Colorado. The Lady Generals will be a big favorite heading into that game. The Generals are a number one seed heading into the Men’s Region Nine Tournament tomorrow at Eastern Wyoming Community College in Torrington. They play Otero, Colorado in their first round game. The Generals are 22-8; Otero is 9-21. Generals head coach Joel Davidson says Otero is very capable of knocking them off, so they must be at their best tomorrow. The post season also gets underway today for state indoor track and field. The indoor championships will be held Laramie today and tomorrow; the outdoor season begins Monday. The first meet will in Casper, March 15th. The spring high school soccer season also opens Monday with the first day of practice. The first games of the season will be March 15th.
02/28/07 Sports for Thursday The Big Horn Lady Rams opener is tonight at 6 o’clock against Wyoming Indian. They knocked the Lady Chiefs out of the State Tournament last year, and beat them earlier this season. The Tongue River Eagles play Wyoming Indian in their first round game tonight at 9 o’clock. The Eagles lost to Wyoming Indian at a tournament back in December. Coach Larry Moser says they need to play with confidence tonight. The Sheridan Broncs play Laramie tonight in an elimination game in Cheyenne at the East Regional Tournament. The two teams split their regular season games, with Laramie winning in Sheridan in overtime. The winner tonight moves into the regional semi finals, and more importantly will get a bid into next week’s State Tournament. Broncs head coach Mike Ibach says the Broncs have had a tough season and it would mean a lot to the players to make it into the State Tournament. The Lady Broncs open the regional in the semi final tomorrow night. They play the winner of today’s game between Cheyenne Central and Laramie. That game will be played tomorrow afternoon. The Generals will play their region nine tournament in Torrington. They open Saturday afternoon with Otero CC. Head coach Joel Davidson says the Generals need to shake off a bad finish to the regular season when they lost two in a row. 02/27/08 Sports for Wednesday The Sheridan Broncs open the 4-A East Regional Tournament tomorrow night at Cheyenne Central High School .They play an elimination game against Laramie. It’s a one-game playoff to get into the State Tournament. The Sheridan College Lady Generals open their region nine tournament in Miles City, Montana Saturday. They open the tournament against Lamar, Colorado Saturday at noon. The Lady Generals have had a tremendous season, ending the year ranked in the national top 20 poll, and are on a good roll heading into the tournament. The Generals open their region nine tournament Saturday afternoon in Torrington on a two game losing streak. The Generals face Otero CC from La Juanta, Colorado Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock. The Class 1-A / 2-A State Tournament opens tomorrow in Casper. We will broadcast four games for you live on AM 14-10 KWYO. We start with the Tongue River Lady Eagles taking on Riverside at 9am, followed by the Arvada /Clearmont Lady Panthers vs. Cokeville at 1:30pm. Then, the Big Horn Lady Rams play Wyoming Indian tomorrow night at 6 o’clock; and we cap off day one with the Tongue River Eagles playing Wyoming Indian at 9 o’clock. Big Horn head coach Mike Daley says its team defense that will make them successful this week. Tongue River Lady Eagles head coach Diane Moser says they want to keep the momentum going from last Saturday’s region championship win. And Eagles head coach Larry Moser says they have a good challenge when they open with Wyoming Indian tomorrow night. The indoor track season ends this weekend at the State Indoor Championships in Laramie. Sheridan High School coach Art Bauers says it should be a good meet for the Broncs and Lady Broncs. Following the action this week inside, the season shifts right into the outdoor season Monday.
02/26/08 Sports for Tuesday The Tongue River Lady Eagles have had quite a journey this season, as well. They do have those big wins against Big Horn, and after a slow start to the season, the Lady Eagles have been rolling the second half of the season. They won 16 of 17 heading into the State Tournament. Head coach Diane Moser says the Lady Eagles really turned their season around, and that it was the players coming together and developing great team chemistry that made the difference. The Lady Eagles, along with Big Horn and maybe a couple others, have a shot at the title this week; but remember, the Lady Eagles have won the last three 2-A State Championships. It’s theirs until someone knocks them off. They open the tournament in the first game Thursday morning against Riverside. The Tongue River Eagles are playing their best basketball of the season, as they enter the State Tournament. The Eagles will be a third seed and square off with Wyoming Indian Thursday night. The ace up their sleeve has been their big man Rob Johnson. Johnson carried the Eagles all the way to the State Title game a year ago, and Moser says they need him to be big again, but he can’t do it alone. The Arvada/Clearmont Lady Panthers open the Class 1-A bracket at the State Tournament as the defending state champs. They open with Cokeville Thursday afternoon at 1:30pm. We will start with the Tongue River Lady Eagles against Riverside at 9am; then the A/C Lady Panthers face Cokeville at 1:30pm; the Big Horn Lady Rams will play Wyoming Indian at 6 o’clock; and the Tongue River Eagles play the nightcap at 9 o’clock against Wyoming Indian at Casper College. The spring high school sports season is only six days away. On March 3rd, the outdoor track and field season opens along with the high school soccer season. March 3rd is the first official day for those athletes to practice with their coaches. The spring track and soccer season opens for competition March 15th.
02/25/08 Sports for Monday Gillette took the overall team State Championship at the State Wrestling Tournament, beating out new 4-A power house Star Valley by four points. The Sheridan Broncs had two state place winners, and finished 12th overall. It was a long weekend for the young Bronc team. 10 made it to day two, but by the time the consolation matches rolled around, only two were left standing, and in the end Garrett Nelson finish 6th at 119 pounds. Coach Corey Hamrick says those younger wrestlers got some valuable experience. Junior Cody Mcalla had the best finish of all the Broncs, taking third place. McCalla, at 215, lost a tough semi-final match Friday night 1-0, but was able to come back Saturday and finish the tournament strong. McCalla says it felt good to come back and win Saturday after Friday’s disappointment, and he’ll be even more ready next year. Hamrick says McCalla made a great move to win the match, and overall Hamrick says the tournament went pretty much how they thought would go. Now we move from State Wrestling to State Basketball, as the Class 1-A and 2-A teams open up their State Tournament in Casper Thursday. Four of our Sheridan County teams will compete. For the third time this season, the Tongue River Lady Eagles beat Big Horn. The latest win was in Saturday night’s Regional Championship game. The Lady Eagles hit 12 of 13 fee throws in the 4th quarter, to hold off the Lady Rams 69-66. The Lady Rams just haven’t figured out the Lady Eagles; their only losses so far have come at the hands of Tongue River. The Lady Rams open up the State Tournament Thursday evening against Wyoming Indian at 6 o’clock at the Casper Events Center. The Tongue River girls will be the number one seed on their side of the bracket; they open the tournament Thursday morning at 9 o’clock, in the first game of the tournament against Riverside. The Lady Eagles have won the last three state titles. The Tongue River Eagles took third in their Regional Tournament. They beat Guernsey Saturday 58-39, to get the third seed. The Eagles open the State Tournament at 9 o’clock Thursday night against Wyoming Indian. The Arvada/Clearmont Lady Panthers lost in their regional title game Saturday against Southeast. The Cyclones beat the Lady Panthers 50-36. It was the Lady Panthers 2nd loss of the season. They open the State Tournament Thursday afternoon at the Casper Events Center against Cokeville at 1:30. The Lady Panthers come into the tournament as the defending 1-A state champs. We will broadcast all four games for you Thursday on AM 14-10 KWYO. Here’s the line-up Thursday morning: at 9 o’clock the Tongue River Lady Eagles take on Riverside, then the Arvada/Clearmont Lady Panthers play Cokeville at 1:30. The Big Horn Lady Rams play Wyoming Indian at 6 o’clock, and we end day one with the Tongue River Eagles taking on Wyoming Indian at 9 pm. Again, all four games will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO. In other weekend action, the Sheridan High School indoor track teams competed in their final regular season meet in Cheyenne. Top finishers for the Lady Broncs was the 1600 meter relay team with a 6th place finish. For the Broncs, Taylor Beard won the boys 55 meter dash; Kyle Grammens was 4th; Wesley Neuman was 6th in the 800 meters; and the Broncs 1600 meter relay team was 3rd. This week, the indoor season ends with the State Indoor Championships in Laramie. The teams will then have a week off before the outdoor season begins March 3rd. The Sheridan College basketball teams head to their Region Nine Tournaments. The Lady Generals will play at their tournament starting Saturday in Miles City, Montana. The Generals will play at their tournament at Eastern Wyoming CC in Torrington. The Generals open the tournament this Saturday, March 1st against Otero CC from Lajuanta, Colorado. Two Sheridan County youngsters won the Wyoming State Elks Hoop Shot Free Throw Shooting Contest, and now move onto regional competition. The regionals feature the winners from Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska and Kansas. Winners from Sheridan County were Reed Ritterbush in the boys 10-11 year old age division, and Bailey Roebling from Clearmont in the girls 12-13 year old age division.
02/22/08 Sports for Friday Class 1-A and 2-A Regional Basketball Tournaments got rolling yesterday at the Class 1-A East Regional in Torrington. The Arvada/Clearmont Lady Panthers beat Upton in their first round game 64-36, setting up a semi final game today with Hulett. The NSI boys lost against Saratoga 88-59. They play an elimination game today against Glendo. The 2-A East Regional is being played in Douglas. The Big Horn Lady Rams started the day off beating Lusk 50-36. They play Burns in a semi final game. The Tongue River Lady Eagles beat up Guernsey 61-24. They face Pine Bluff in the other semi final. The Tongue River boys beat Guernsey 62-45. They play Lusk in the semi finals. Big Horn lost against Lusk 75-54. They face an elimination game today against Guernsey. The 2008 State Wrestling Tournament gets underway this morning. The Sheridan Broncs will be well represented, with 15 Broncs making the field. Broncs head coach Corey Amrick says they’re ready to go. The Casper Events Center will be rocking for the next two days. Hamrick says the atmosphere is awesome for the wrestlers. Join us later this morning on AM 14-10 KWYO. We will begin live hourly reports from the State Tournament. The Lady Broncs host Central at Sheridan High School. The Lady Broncs beat Central in Cheyenne a couple of weeks ago in a close game. Both teams are similar, and play the same style. You can hear tonight’s game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30. Tomorrow at 1:30, the Lady Broncs play Cheyenne East. The T-Birds beat the Lady Broncs in Cheyenne two weeks ago. The Broncs play at Central tonight, and East tomorrow afternoon. The Broncs know they will have a one-game playoff at the Regional Tournament next Thursday in Cheyenne. To get into the State Tournament, Coach Mike Ibach says they need to use these games to build some positive momentum to get ready for that game. Ibach also says they know they will play either Riverton, Laramie or Cheyenne East in that game, and they really don’t care which team that will be. After games this weekend, the Broncs and Lady Broncs will be back in Cheyenne next week for the 4-A East Regional Tournament. The Tournament will be played at Cheyenne Central High School. The Sheridan College basketball teams will play at Western Wyoming in Rock Springs tonight. They close out the regular season with games at Casper College tomorrow night. 02/21/08 Sports for Thursday The Wyoming Cowgirls won at San Diego State last night. They built up a big lead and took the game 55-44. They are 21-4 overall. They play their next game at UNLV Saturday night. The Cowboys play at home Saturday afternoon against UNLV. The Class 1-A Regional opens in Torrington today. The Arvada/Clearmont Lady Panthers will play Upton tonight, and the NSI Wolves open with Saratoga this afternoon. Again, the top four teams from each bracket advance to the State Tournament, which opens in Casper a week from today. The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc basketball teams close out the regular season this week. The Broncs will play in Cheyenne. The Lady Broncs host Cheyenne Central tomorrow night, and Cheyenne East Saturday afternoon. The Lady Broncs are playing for an automatic bid into the State Tournament, and need to win both games to pick up the free pass. Coach Mark Elliott says they like the position they’re in going into these games, and the math is pretty simple - go out and win both. Elliott says tomorrow night’s match-up with Central should be a great game. Varsity game time tomorrow is 7:30pm. We will have it live for you on AM 14-10 KWYO. Ron Richter will have the play by play. The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals also close out their regular season this weekend. They play at Western Wyoming in Rock Springs tomorrow, and finish it up at Casper College Saturday night. The Lady Generals are 25-3 overall, and ranked 23rd in the country this week. Miles City beat Dawson last night, to wrap up the north sub region. They are ranked 13th in the country this week, and will host the Women’s Region Nine Tournament which starts March 1st. The Men’s Region Nine Tournament will be played at either Casper College or Eastern Wyoming in Torrington. The All-Class State Wrestling Championships open at the Casper Events Center tomorrow. 15 Sheridan Broncs will take to the mats tomorrow. There will be several inexperienced Broncs in the tournament, but head coach Corey Hamrick says this tournament is built for upsets, and that they need to try to not be intimidated by the atmosphere of the State Tournament. Wrestling begins tomorrow morning at 9 o’clock. We will be in Casper with the Broncs, and will have live hourly reports from the tournament on AM 14-10 KWYO. In other local sports action this week, the Sheridan High School indoor track teams have their final regular season meet this weekend. They’ll be in Cheyenne Saturday. Next week, the State Indoor Championships will be held in Laramie. Then it’s onto the outdoor season. The first official practice is set to begin March 3rd. That is also the same day the spring soccer season begins with the first practice. The spring season starts March 15th.
02/20/08 Sport for Wednesday The Sheridan College basketball teams played in the Hoffman Dome for the final time last night against Northwest College. The Lady Generals pounded Northwest 82-48, to run their record to 25-3 overall. They close out the regular season with Wyoming Conference road games at Western Wyoming and Casper College. The Generals had to go into overtime to pick up their 22nd win of the season. Last night, they smoked Northwest in overtime. They were tied at 70 at the end of regulation, and went on to win 88-77. The Generals will join the Lady Generals for the road trip south this weekend. The Wyoming Cowboys were also in action last night against San Diego State. The Aztecs took the game 79-68. Next up for the Cowboys is a home game against UNLV Saturday afternoon. The Wyoming Cowgirls will play at San Diego State tonight. We will have the game for you live on AM 1410 KWYO. Broadcast time will be at 7:45pm. The Big Horn, Tongue River, Arvada/Clearmont, and NSI basketball teams all open up regional basketball tournaments Thursday. The 1-A East Regional is being played in Torrington. The defending 1-A State Champion Arvada/Clearmont Lady Panthers will open the first round Thursday night at 5:30 against Upton for the NSI Wolves. This is the best chance for the Wolves to make their first State Tournament ever. They open the regional at noon Thursday against Saratoga. The 2-A East Regional will be played in Douglas. The Big Horn Lady Rams open the first round at 9:00am Thursday morning against Lusk. The three-time defending 2-A State Champion Tongue River Lady Eagles play a first round game at 4pm against Guernsey. In the boys bracket, the Tongue River Eagles play at noon against Guernsey, and the Big Horn Rams will play Lusk at 1:30pm. The top four teams from each bracket qualify for the State Tournament, which opens next Thursday in Casper. The Sheridan Lady Bronc basketball team plays Cheyenne Central at home Friday night, and at home Saturday afternoon against Cheyenne East. If the Lady Broncs can sweep both games, they would finish 2nd in the conference race, and pick up an automatic bid into the State Tournament. Game time Friday night is set for 7:30pm. The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers are all ready to go Friday at the State Wrestling Tournament. Coach Corey Hamrick says they have good momentum going, coming out of the Regional Tournament, and their job this week until Friday morning is to build confidence in each wrestler before the State Tournament begins. The Sheridan High School indoor track teams will compete at a meet in Cheyenne Saturday, then it’s on to the Indoor State Championships next weekend in Laramie. 22 Bronc and Lady Bronc team members competed last week at the Simplot Games in Pocatello, Idaho. Head track coach Art Bauers says they get a lot out of competing in that event. The indoor season ends next weekend in Laramie. Bauers says they have high expectations for the State Indoor Meet. The outdoor season opens March 3rd.
02/19/08 Sports for Tuesday The All-Class State Wrestling Championships open Friday morning in Casper. The wrestling room at Sheridan High School is buzzing this week, as 15 Broncs prepare to compete. Head coach Corey Hamrick says this week’s work-outs are about quality more than quantity. Gillette has dominated the 4-A team championship race in the past few years, but Hamrick says there will be a couple of new challengers for the Camels this weekend. We’ll be with the Broncs in Casper for the tournament. We will broadcast live hourly reports from the Casper Events Center, beginning Friday morning and running through the Championship matches Saturday night. All reports can be heard on AM 1410 KWYO. First round matches begin Friday morning at 9 o’clock. The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals will play their final home games of the season tonight against Northwest College. Both teams have wrapped up at least 2nd place in the north sub-region. With three games to play, the Lady Generals stand at 24-3 on the season; the Generals are 21-6. Generals head coach Joel Davidson says they just want to have a strong finish to the home season tonight. Again, as has been the tradition at Sheridan College, admission is free for all fans to the final home games of the season. Tonight, the Lady Generals lead off tonight at 6 o’clock, with the Generals to follow at 8..This weekend, both teams end their regular seasons with games Friday at Western Wyoming in Rock Springs, and Saturday night at Casper College. The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc basketball teams end their regular seasons this week. The Broncs will play Cheyenne Central and East. In Cheyenne, the Lady Broncs are in the hunt to pick up an automatic State Tournament bid. They must sweep both Central and East at Sheridan High School to get the automatic bid. Friday night, they play Central. We will have that game live for you on AM 1410 KWYO. Varsity tip-off will be at 7:30. The Big Horn, Tongue River, NSI, and Arvada/Clearmont basketball teams play at their regional tournaments starting Thursday. The 1-A East Regional for NSI and A/C will be in Torrington. The 2-A East Regional will be played in Douglas. The top four teams from each bracket will advance to the State Tournament, which begins February 28th in Casper. Last spring was an outstanding State Tournament for Sheridan County as the Arvada/Clearmont Lady Panthers won the school’s first state title. The Lady Panthers have only one loss this season, and is one of just a few teams that have a shot at the title. The Tongue River Lady Eagles have won the last three 2-A state titles. They beat Big Horn in overtime last March, to win their third in a row. Both teams should make another run at that state title game this year. The Lady Rams are 17-2. Their only losses this season came at the hands of Tongue River. For the Lady Eagles, they finished the season strong after a slow start. The Tongue River Eagles played for the title last March, and should be one of about three or four teams with a shot at the state title again this year. The Sheridan Lady Broncs will be in Casper in three weeks to defend their state title. The Lady Broncs, along with Gillette and Cheyenne Central, will be the favorites to win the 4-A title this year. The State 4-A Tournament opens March 6th in Casper. The Wyoming Cowboys play tonight at home against San Diego State. The Pokes got drilled at San Diego State 70-43 back on January 19th. The Pokes are 3-3 in their last six games, and have won two straight at home. The Cowboys at 10-14 overall; the Aztecs are 16-9. You can hear tonight’s game live on AM 1410 KWYO. Broadcast time is set for 6:30pm. The Wyoming Cowgirls have lost three of their last four games, and for the first time in 12 weeks the Cowgirls have fallen out of the National Top 25 Poll. Even though they did win at home Saturday against Air Force this week, the Cowgirls are just out of the top 25 at number 26 this week. They stand at 20-4 and 8-3 in conference play. 02/18/08 Sports for Monday The Sheridan Broncs will have 15 wrestlers competing this week at the Wyoming State Tournament in Casper. Jake Riemers and Cody McCalla won regional championships, while Trevor Goss and Garrett Nelson placed 2nd, and Casey Garrifa was 4th. With four placers and 15 making the State Tournament, it was a successful regional. Head coach Corey Hamrick says 15 is a good number for the Broncs to take down to Casper. We will be with the Broncs Friday and Saturday at the State Tournament in Casper. We will have hourly updates on the Broncs’ progress through the weekend on AM 14-10 KWYO. Matches begin Friday morning at 9 o’clock. The swimming season came to a close for the Sheridan Broncs Saturday as Nick Groshart and Taylor Speiglberg just missed qualifying for the State Meet at a last chance qualifier over in Gillette. Head coach Larry White says both guys did their absolute best and just came up short, and the nine Bronc swimmers should be proud of what they accomplished this season. In basketball action, the Big Horn Rams face an elimination game tonight in Moorcroft. The Rams and Wolves must play off, with the winner getting a bid into this week’s regional tournament in Douglas. The Big Horn girls and both Tongue River teams made the regional tournament field. The NSI Wolves and Arvada/Clearmont Lady Panthers made the 1-A East Regional. That tournament opens Thursday in Torrington. The Sheridan Lady Broncs ran into a Gillette team on the top of their game in Gillette Friday night, and came away with their 3rd conference loss. The Lady Broncs are still in good shape to wrap up one of the State Tournament automatic bids, as they close out the regular season at home with the Cheyenne schools this weekend. The Broncs will close out the regular season at the Cheyenne schools this weekend. They know they will have to win one game Thursday at the regional tournament in two weeks to get into the State Tournament. Head coach Mike Ibach says the season will come down to a one game playoff at the regional. The Sheridan College Lady Generals lost at Miles City, Montana Saturday night 71-52, meaning Miles City will host the women’s Region Nine Tournament in March. The Generals also fell in Miles City Saturday. Both teams close out their home schedule tomorrow night, hosting games with Northwest College. Head coach Joel Davidson says the main goal is always winning the north sub region, but they need some help this week to have that happen. 02/15/08 Sports for Friday The Sheridan Broncs played east conference leader Gillette. It was all Gillette, as the Camels took any mystery out of the game by scoring 28 points in the first quarter. They led 52-26 at halftime, and cruised in the second half and took the game 90-62. Gillette shot the ball very well, and the Broncs couldn’t keep pace. Head Coach Mike Ibach says that when Gillette gets their style of play going, it’s hard to slow them down. The Broncs close out the regular season on the road at Cheyenne Central and East next week. The Lady Broncs will play at Gillette tonight in the Razor City. The Camels beat the Lady Broncs in double “OT” in Sheridan three weeks ago. Not much has changed since then, with both teams going 3-1 in that stretch. Gillette is ranked number one; the Lady Broncs are number two. Gillette leads the Lady Broncs by one game in the conference chase. Lady Broncs Coach Mark Elliott says they are looking forward to another challenging game. 02/14/08 Sports for Thursday The Sheridan College Lady Generals were driving to play a game in Glendive, Montana yesterday. When they got off the bus, they found out they were ranked in the National Junior College Top 20 Poll for the first time this season. They’ve piled up an impressive 24-2 record, including 12 straight wins - two over nationally ranked teams. Then they went out and took care of business by whipping Dawson 80-52. Tonishea Mack led the scoring with 30 points. The win sets up the biggest game to date in Women’s Region Nine play. This season, the 16th ranked Lady Generals play at 14th ranked Miles City, Montana Saturday. The Lady Generals hold the advantage in hosting the Region Nine Tournament. They beat Miles City by 10 points back on January 26th, meaning if they win Saturday, they host the tournament. The tie breaker is a margin of victory, meaning Miles City must beat the Lady Generals by 11 points or more to host the tournament. The Generals and Lady Generals will play their final regular season home games next Tuesday against Northwest College. The Bronc basketball team will be looking for the upset when they take on conference leader Gillette tonight at Sheridan High School. Gillette beat the Broncs back on January 24th in Gillette. Broncs head coach Mike Ibach says there are several things the Broncs must get done tonight to stay in the game. The biggest thing is to be patient. The Pokes led wire to wire, beating TCU last night 72-54. Both teams will play Air Force Saturday afternoon. The pokes will play in Colorado Springs; the Cowgirls will host the Academy. Big Horn, Tongue River, and Arvada/Clearmont all end their regular seasons this week. Regional Basketball Tournaments for Class 1-A and 2-A teams begins next week. 02/13/08 Sports for Wednesday The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers will host the 4-A East Regional Tournament. The meet opens at Sheridan High School Friday afternoon. Broncs head coach Corey Hamrick says its great to have the tournament in their home gym, and it’s a great opportunity for fans to have the tournament in Sheridan. Hamrick says the Broncs have been working hard in their preparation to make sure they’re on the top of their game. Matches begin Friday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Saturday’s action begins at 9:30am, with the finals and consolation matches starting at 1 o’clock. The All-Class State Championships open in Casper next Friday. In basketball action, the Sheridan College teams play at Dawson Community College in Glendive, Montana tonight. The Lady Generals are 23-2 overall; the Generals sit at 20-5. The Generals lead the north sub region with a 4-1 record, and need these games to ensure a number one seed for the Region Nine Tournament. Following the games tonight, both teams play at Miles City, Montana Saturday night. For the Lady Generals, a win means they host the Region Nine Tournament. If they lose, it must be by nine points or less - that’s the tie-breaker number. If Miles wins the game by 11 points, they host the tournament; if they win by ten points, they have to go to the 2nd tie breaker. If the tournament is hosted in Sheridan, 16 teams will be here starting on March 1st. For the Generals, this week a couple of wins would wrap up a number one seed. Coach Joel Davidson says this is a huge week for the Generals. Both teams will play their final regular season home games next Tuesday against Northwest College, then close out the season with road games at Western Wyoming and Casper College next weekend. 08/12/08 Sports for Tuesday Sheridan High School seniors Dustin McCalla and Josh Dunkelberger signed National Letters of Intent yesterday to play college football at the University of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. First up Dustin McCalla says it was a great day, and Dunkelberger was happy to finally have this day. Representing the school in Sheridan yesterday was assistant head coach and defensive coordinator Chuck Morrell. Sioux Falls has won 16 conference titles in the last 25 years, and made several trips to the NAIA National Playoffs, including national runner-up titles in 2001. They also have two national titles in 1996 and 2006. Morrell says Wyoming players have always been a big part of their success. It was also a happy day for Sheridan High School head football coach Don Julian. He says it’s always nice to have your players be able to move on and play in college. Last week, we had news that Sheridan High School senior Firdose Kahn would receive the Perseverance Award at the Wyoming chapter of the National Football Foundation Banquet for Scholar Athletes next month. We got news yesterday that Tongue River High School senior Rob Johnson is one of 14 finalists for the Wyoming chapters Scholar Athlete of the Year Award. The 6’6” Johnson is currently finishing out his high school playing career with the Eagles basketball team. He’s a five time all-state player: three in football and two in basketball, and will probably have one more selection when this current season ends. Johnson is a 4.0 GPA student, and ranks number one in his class at Tongue River High School. He is a two year member of the National Honor Society and is president of the Wyoming State FCCLA, and takes part in many other community activities. The State Football Foundation Banquet will be held in Casper March 15th. On the local basketball scene this week, it’s the final week of the regular season for Class 1-A and 2-A basketball teams. The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams play their final game at home Friday against Sundance. The Tongue River teams play at Greybull Friday, and close out with Sundance at home Saturday. 02/11/08 Sports for Monday The Sheridan Bronc swimmers competed in the first post season event of the winter sports season. The North Regional Swimming Championships wrapped up in Casper Saturday. The Broncs finished 6th overall. No Broncs have qualified for the State Championships, but Gillette is hosting a last chance qualifier Saturday. Head coach Larry White says a couple of Broncs still have a good shot at making the State Tournament. field. Overall, White says his young Broncs had a good season. On a side note, at the conference meet Broncs; head coach Larry White was named the North Conference Coach of the Year. The Sheridan Lady Bronc basketball team took two road wins at Riverton and Laramie over the weekend. Head Coach Mark Elliott says it’s always nice to get two conference games on the road. This week, it’s round two with Gillette. The game will be played in Gillette Friday night. The first time around, Gillette beat the Lady Broncs in double overtime. Elliott expects another great game Friday. The Broncs split their games. They beat Riverton Friday, and lost in overtime against Laramie Saturday. The Broncs played tough Saturday, but struggled hitting shots. Laramie hit two big three pointers in the overtime, to pull the game out. The Broncs will host Gillette at Sheridan High School Thursday night. The Sheridan College Lady Generals are 23-2 after beating up EWC Friday night. The Generals beat EWC and Laramie County over the weekend. They beat Eastern by twelve Friday, and got by Laramie County in overtime Saturday. The Generals and Lady Generals will play at Dawson CC in Glendive, Montana Wednesday, and then head to Miles City, Montana for more sub region games Saturday. The Big Horn Lady Rams lost at Tongue River Friday, and came back to beat Greybull on the road Saturday. The Rams dropped both of their games. Both teams end the regular season with home games with Sundance Friday.
02/08/08 Sports for Friday The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals will play at home tonight. They host games with Eastern Wyoming. The Lady Generals are 22-2 on the season. Head Coach Frank Mcarthy says they just need to keep the momentum going. The Lady Generals have beaten Eastern Wyoming twice this season, both times handily, but Mcarthy says they can’t take the Lancers lightly this time of year. The Generals are playing their first game since their stunning loss Tuesday at Little Horn Community College. Head coach Joel Davidson says they can’t do anything about that game now, and must move on. The last time the Generals played Eastern, the Lancers beat them on a 55 foot buzzer beater. Davidson says they are in for another tough battle tonight. Game times are at 6 and 8 o’clock tomorrow. The Generals play a single game with Laramie County. Tip-off will be at 7 o’clock.. The Broncs swimmers compete in their regional meet this weekend in Casper. Every Bronc competing this year is a first year swimmer. Head coach Larry White says its been a good season for the team. When school started last fall, it looked like there would be no Bronc swim team and it also looked liked the program might be lost forever. A call went out at the high school, and nine boys answered the call to save the team. Head coach Larry White says these nine deserve a lot of credit for coming out to save the day. As they get ready to compete in the regional meet tomorrow, none of the Broncs have met the qualifying standards for the State Championships. Even though a couple of them are close, White says that wasn’t their number one goal at the start of the season. And another thing that has made this season memorable is the support the Broncs have gotten from other schools in the state. The 4-A Regionals are being held at Kelly Walsh High School tomorrow and Saturday. The Broncs wrestlers have a conference dual in Laramie tomorrow night, and close out their regular season Saturday with conference duals with Cheyenne Central and Cheyenne. Next week the Broncs host the east regionals: Gillette, Riverton, Laramie and both Cheyenne schools will join the Broncs for that tournament. The All-Class State Championships will be in Casper February 22nd and 23rd. 02/06/08 Sports for Wednesday The Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles swept games from Greybull last night. The Lady Eagles whipped the Buffalos 55-24. The Eagles took their game 43-38. Both teams host games with Big Horn Friday night. Game times will be at 4:30 and 7:30. The NSI Wolves lost a non-conference game at Moorcroft last night 34-30. They play a conference game at Upton Friday. The Sheridan College teams played at Little Big Horn Community College last night The Lady Generals took their game 104-42 The Generals beat Little Horn last Tuesday by 40 points. Last night, they lost at Little Horn 89-85. Both teams will be back in action Friday night at the Hoffman Dome against Eastern Wyoming. Game times are at 6pm and 8pm The Generals will also play a single home game with Laramie County Saturday night. The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc basketball teams open the second round of conference play this week. The Lady Broncs are 3-2 in conference play, and hit the road for games at Riverton and Laramie. The Lady Broncs are coming off a good win at Cheyenne Central last Saturday after losing the night before at Cheyenne East. They open the road trip at Riverton Friday night, even though they handled both Riverton and Laramie easily at home. Coach Mark Elliott says they can’t afford to take either team lightly this week. Next week, the Lady Broncs will get another shot at Gillette after falling to the Lady Camels two weeks ago in double overtime. That game will be played in Gillette on Friday the 15th. The Broncs play their second straight week at home. They have five games to play before heading to their regional tournament, even though they only have one win the way. The 4-A Regionals are set up. The Broncs only have to win their opener on Thursday, February 28th to get a State Tournament bid. Head Coach Mike Ibach says they just need to stay positive and keep playing. The Broncs beat Laramie the first time around in conference play, and lost a close game at Riverton. They are coming off a bad loss against Cheyenne Central. Two Sheridan residents will be honored at the annual event. Sheridan High School senior Firdose Kahn has been honored as this year’s winner of the Scholar Athlete Perseverance Award. Khan injured his knee during football season, but rehabbed enough to finish the season in the final game of the year, and with the injury he is also playing for the Bronc basketball team. Ernie Rottellini of Sheridan is also being honored. He will be awarded the Contributor to Amateur Football Award. Ernie has run the Sheridan Chain Gang at football games for over 60 years. The annual awards dinner and program will be held in Casper March 15th. The University of Wyoming Cowboys will step out of conference play tonight as they host Cal. Both teams will host games with Eastern Wyoming Friday night, and the Generals host a single game with Laramie County Saturday night. The Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles host games with Greybull tonight. The games were postponed on January 26th. Tonight, the girls varsity game will lead off at 5 o’clock. The boys will follow at 6:30. Friday, the Eagles and Lady Eagles host round two with the Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams. Varsity game times will be at 4:30 and 7:30. The Sheridan Lady Broncs head out onto the road this week. While the Broncs try and get something going this week with home games, the second round of conference play begins with the Lady Broncs at Riverton and Laramie. The Broncs play in Sheridan. The Broncs wrestlers end their regular season with three road conference duals. They will be in Laramie Friday, and then over to Cheyenne Saturday for duals with East and Central. The Broncs Cody McCalla was the Broncs lone place winner at the Riverton Invitational. This week, the regular season ends with a flurry of conference matches starting in Laramie Friday night. Next week, Sheridan High School will host the East Regional Tournament. Hamrick says that’s the last chance to get a good seed for the State Tournament. The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc indoor track teams are coming off another successful meet at Black Hills State University. The Broncs and Lady Broncs are off this week, as 22 qualifiers prepare to compete in the Annual Simplot Games in Pocatello, Idaho. Head Coach Art Bauers says it’s a great honor to be able to compete in that national event. The Simplot games will be run next week, Thursday through Saturday. Following the Simplot games, their will be one meet left in the indoor season before the State Indoor Championships, which will be held in Laramie February 29th and March 1st. Then, it’s onto the outdoor season practice March 3rd. The Sheridan Bronc swimmers enter the post season this weekend at the regional meet hosted by Casper Kelly Walsh High School. All the state meet qualifiers will then have two weeks off to get ready for the State Championships that will be held in Gillette February 21st and 22nd. The Wyoming Cowboys have won two of their last three games. They dropped their last game against BYU Saturday. Tomorrow night, they step out of conference play when they host Cal. State Bakersfield. 02/04/08 Sports for Monday The Sheridan College Lady Generals basketball team continued their winning ways, picking up their 21st win of the season by beating Casper College, and finishing up the week 3-0. They’ve now run their winning streak to eight straight. Freshmen Tahnee Robinson says the team has been focused the 2nd half of the season, and that the secret to their success has been each player contributing. Head coach Frank Mcarthy says they pulled out a good win Saturday night. The Generals are 18-4; they also won all three games last week. The Generals have also won six straight, but Saturday night’s game with Casper College became a huge struggle on a night when it looked like the Generals would take care of the T-Birds easily. They held on and won the game. Tomorrow, both teams head to Little Big Horn Community College for north sub region games. They host games with Eastern Wyoming Friday, and the Generals play Laramie County Saturday night at home. The Sheridan Lady Bronc basketball team got a big conference win Saturday after losing at Cheyenne East Friday. The Lady Broncs are now 3-2 in conference play, and head out on the road for more conference games at Riverton Friday and at Laramie Saturday. The Broncs lost in overtime Friday night against Cheyenne East on Saturday. Cheyenne Central came into Sheridan and beat the Broncs in the first game this season. The Broncs were never really in. Central went off for 28 points in the second quarter, and led by 22 at the half;;then went onto win the game 82-44.. This week, the Broncs host Riverton Friday night and Laramie Saturday afternoon. It was another winning weekend for the Arvada/Clearmont Lady Panthers: they blew out Midwest and Meeteetsee. The Lady Panthers are 15-1 overall. Head coach Bill Joy says good team play has them right where they were a year ago The Lady Panthers took the State 1-A Championship last spring, and are a favorite to defend that title this spring. Joy says their State Tournament experience is a big factor in the team’s success. The Big Horn Lady Rams are 18-1 after two more weekend victories. In all, they took two on the road and beat Thermopolis at home Saturday 58-55. The Rams dropped all three of their games last week. Friday, they play at Tongue River; then on the road at Greybull Saturday. The Tongue River Lady Eagles won all three of their games last week, and sit at 11-6 overall. The Eagles lost at Sundance Friday, but came back with a road win at Rocky Mtn. Saturday 50-35. Get this stat line from the Eagles: Rob Johnston 21 points, 23 rebounds, 11 assists, 8 steals and 7 blocked shots. Tomorrow, the Eagles and Lady Eagles host games with Greybull; Friday, they host Big Horn; and Saturday they host games with Wright. The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers finished in 17th place at the Riverton Invitational Tournament. The Broncs’ top finisher was Cody McCalla - he finished 3rd at 215 pounds. This week, the Broncs have a conference dual at Laramie tomorrow; then Saturday they dual both Cheyenne schools in Cheyenne. The Broncos host the East Regional Tournament on February 15th and 16th. The Sheridan High School track teams competed at a meet at Black Hills State University. No team scores were kept, but they had several good individual performances. For the Lady Broncs, Stephanie Pettit was 12th in the 55 and 200 meters. In the 800 meters, Steph Brown was 5th and Emily Bobinchack was 6th. Bobinchack also was 9th in the 1600 meters, with Dana Morin 10th. Lela Carpenter was 4th in the 3200 meters; Lauren Buyan was 8th in the 55 meter hurdles; Sadie Rhinesmith finished 7th. In the pole vault, Heidi Montano was 9th in the long jump, and Elizabeth Mendoza was 9th in the shot put. For the Broncs, Taylor Beard was 5th in the 55 meters, Will Hendrickson was 10th. Beard also finished 11th in the 200 meters,, andWesley Neuman was 5th in the 800 meters. In the 3200 meters, Ryan Sorenson was 8th and Dylan Morin was 10th.
02/01/08 Sports for Friday First up in action from last night, Big Horn split road games at Wright. The Lady Rams continue to win; they beat the Lady Panthers 49-36. The Rams dropped their game 53-40. Both teams play at Moorcroft tonight, then at home for games with Thermopolis tomorrow. Varsity game times will be at 2:30 and 4 o’clock. The Sheridan High School basketball teams take on the Cheyenne schools this weekend. They open with Cheyenne East tonight. The Lady Broncs play at East. Coach Mark Elliott says the players were still a little stunned this week after losing against Gillette in double OT last week. The big game might be against Central tomorrow, but Elliott says they can’t take East lightly. The Broncs play East tonight, and former Broncs coach Mike Jackson and Cheyenne Central current Broncs coach Mike Ibach says they love being at home and expect two good ball games. We will have tonight’s game live for you on AM 14-10 KWYO. Tip-off is set for 7:30. The Sheridan College teams host Western Wyoming tonight and Casper College tomorrow. The Lady Generals finally got some love in the national polls. Even though they aren’t in the top 20, they did get some votes this week. At 19-2, they are rolling They’ve won six straight. Lady Eagles coach Diane Moser says the big game is the conference game with the Bulldogs tonight. The Eagles face a tough Sundance team tonight. Coach Larry Moser says they know their in for a good test. In other action this weekend, the Bronc wrestlers will be in Riverton for the Riverton Invitational. The Bronc swimmers have a home dual this evening with Riverton; they compete in an Invitational in Gillette tomorrow. The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc indoor track athletes will compete at a meet tomorrow at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota.
