11/30/07 Sports for Friday
The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals were both winners last night. The Lady Generals pounded Northwest College 77-51 in the opener of their Wyoming Conference Pre-Season Tournament in Casper. Tahnee Robinson led the way with 22 points and 17 rebounds, Mckenzie Gentry had 18, and Randa Claybaugh had 10 today. They continue play at the tournament against Eastern Wyoming. The Generals are ranked 11th in the National Poll this week. Last night, they ran their record to 9-0 with a 98-70 win over Highline CC from Washington, at a tournament at the College of Southern Idaho. In Twin Falls today, the Generals will take on Northwestern Colorado. The Wyoming Cowgirls took their fifth straight victory last night, beating the University of Montana 65-54. The Cowgirls are ranked 25th in the AP Poll this week, and 24th in the ESPN/USA Today Poll. Former Sheridan Lady Bronc Stephanie Stender played for the Grizzlies in last night’s game. Stender is a red-shirt freshmen for the Grizzlies this season. Next up for the Cowgirls is a home game with Denver University tomorrow night. Our next live Cowgirl broadcast will be next Wednesday, when they play at Colorado. The Wyoming Cowboys are 3-2, and will play their next game Saturday at Akron. 11/29/07 Sports for Thursday The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc basketball teams tip-off the season tomorrow night in the Sheridan High School gym. We will broadcast both games for you over on AM 14-10 KWYO. The girls varsity game will kickoff the double header at 5:45pm, with the boys set to go at 7:30pm. The Lady Broncs have been voted as the pre-season number one team in Class 4-A, as they spend the season defending their State Title. Coach Mark Elliott says the big thing early is getting good leadership from the upper classmen. Again, the girls’ varsity game tips-off tomorrow at 5:45pm. Bronc head coach Mike Ibach says they got some new faces on the varsity team this season, and the players have put in the time and now it’s time to play. The Broncs play a Green River team that has good returning numbers. Ibach says this is a good opener for the Broncs. Boys varsity tip-off is set for tomorrow at 7:30pm. In basketball action tonight, the Wyoming Cowgirls will put their national ranking on the line for the first time, when they host the University of Montana. The Grizzlies beat the Cowgirls twice last season. Tonight, the Cowgirls are ranked 25th. It’s the first time the Wyoming program has made the list. You can hear tonight’s game live on AM 1410 KWYO. The Sheridan Bronc wrestling season opens tomorrow at a tournament in Powell. Coach Corey Hamrick says they got a young, inexperienced bunch in the wrestling room and have done some things to help in their team building over the last couple of weeks. The Broncs open tomorrow at an invitational in Powell. The Bronc first home match will be Thursday, December 13th when they host a conference dual with Gillette. The Sheridan College teams open play at tournaments in Casper and Twin Falls, Idaho. Today, the Lady Generals open in Casper today against Eastern Wyoming. The Generals open their tournament in Twin Falls against Hi-Line Community College from Washington. 11/28/07 Sports for Wedensday The Sheridan college basketball teams play on the road this week. The Lady Generals are 9-0 and will play three games at their Wyoming Conference Tournament in Casper. That tournament opens tomorrow. The Lady Generals take a 9-0 record into action. They play Eastern, Northwest, and Western Wyoming. Six of their nine victories are quality wins. Coach Frank Mcarthy says the best part of the tournament is a chance to see more quality opponents, and a chance to get a preview of all the Wyoming Conference teams they’ll face the second half of the season. After play this week, the Lady Generals play at a tournament next week at the college of Southern Idaho. The Generals are 8-0 and ranked 11th in the country this week, as the new poll came out yesterday. They moved up two spots. Now, they head to Twin Falls, Idaho for three games beginning tomorrow. The highlight of the weekend will be their game Saturday night, when they take on the college of Southern Idaho. CSI is ranked 2nd in this week’s National Top 25 poll. Generals sophomore point guard Cedric Koffi played at CSI a year ago, and he knows how good the Generals must play, He says he has confidence in his teammates, and expects them to play well. Head Coach Joel Davidson says they’ve been pointing at this night since the season started, and they’ll find out how good they are. As a side story to the game, Generals freshmen Josh Perry will be playing against his brother Barrett Peery, who is the CSI head coach. The Generals will close out the first half of the season with home games December 7th and 8th. They host their own tournament at the Hoffman Dome. The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc Hoopsters host games with Green River Friday. The girls play at 5:45pm, and boys at 7:30pm. Both games can be heard live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Following Friday night’s games, the Lady Broncs will play a home game with Buffalo next Tuesday, while the Broncs play in Buffalo. The 25th ranked and 4-0 Wyoming Cowgirls will play their first game as a nationally-ranked team tomorrow night in the Double “AA,” against a very good team from the University of Montana. 11/27/07 Sports for Tuesday The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc basketball teams open the new season at home Friday night. The girls will open the double header up at 5:45pm, with the boys to follow at 7:30pm. Both games will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Lady Broncs coach Mark Elliott says it’s nice to be looking ahead to finally playing a game. The Broncs are looking to improve on last year’s season, with a trip to the State Tournament. Coach Mike Ibach says the players and coaches are getting geared up to face a good Green River team, and the players have done a good job of getting themselves ready for the opener. The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams open the basketball season in Lusk Friday and Saturday, and the Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles will head over to a tournament in Thermopolis. The Sheridan College teams both head out on the road this week. The 9-0 Lady Generals will play three games at their Wyoming conference pre-season tournament in Casper starting Thursday; while the Generals head to Twin Falls, Idaho for three games at the College of Southern Idaho. The Bronc wrestlers open their season at an invitational tournament in Powell Friday. Broncs head coach Corey Hamrick says he’s been encouraged by the wrestlers’ attitude and work ethic during the first two weeks of pre-season practice. The Broncs head over to Powell Friday. Hamrick says this is a good tournament for the Broncs on the first weekend of the season. The Wyoming Cowboys played at home last night against Arkansas-Pine Bluffs. The Pokes took their third win of the season 78-59. Brandon Ewing had 21 points and eight assists to lead the way. Next up for the Pokes is a road game Saturday at Akron University in Ohio. The Wyoming Cowgirls are 4-0 and now ranked among the national elite. The Cowgirls are 25th in the AP top 25 poll. The Cowgirls are just out of the top 25, at number 26, in the ESPN/USA Today poll. This is the first time in the history of the Cowgirl program that the team has been ranked with the nation’s elite teams. The Cowgirls play at home Thursday night against the University of Montana. 11/26/07 sports for Monday The Sheridan College Lady Generals are 9-0 after taking two more wins at home Friday and Saturday they blew out both Little Big Horn and Rocky Mtn. College in two lopsided games Lady Generals’ sophomore point guard Lyndie Neville says at The 13th ranked Generals are 8-0 after winning both of their weekend games easily they beat Little Horn CC Friday 141-84, they started slow against Rocky Mtn. Saturday but still won the game by 30. Generals sophomore point guard Cedric Koffi says he has a good feeling about how good this year’s team can be. And after Saturday night’s game he says the players must work even harder to stay in games when they dominate their opponents like they did this past weekend. Head coach Joel Davidson says the players got a good dose of that Saturday after a starting poorly but finishing strong. The Generals make their toughest road trip of the season this week when they head to Twin Falls Idaho for a tournament at the college of Southern Idaho the high light of the week will be Saturday night when they play the host team CSI is ranked 2nd in the national poll this week. The Generals will play two more home games in a couple of weeks when they host the Holiday Inn Tournament on December 7th and 8th. 11/23/07 Sports for Friday The Sheridan Lions Club is hosting their Annual Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament today and tomorrow. There will be two games this afternoon at 2 and 4 o’clock. The first game will have the Western Wyoming Lady Spartans playing Rocky Mountain College. The second game will have Northwest College men playing Rocky Mountain College. The Lady Generals will play at 6 o’clock against Little Big Horn Community College, and the Generals will play at 8 against Little Big Horn. That game will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Tomorrow, the first women’s game will be played at 11am, followed by the first men’s game at 1pm. The Lady Generals will play Rocky Mountain. at 3pm, and the Generals and Rocky will go at 5. The University of Wyoming football cowboys close out their season today with the 99th addition of Wyoming / CSU. The game is being played in Fort Collins. A week from today, the high school winter sports season gets underway, and we will start it for you with a Sheridan High School basketball double header. The Broncs and Lady Broncs both open at home against Green River. The Lady Broncs will play at 5:45, and the Broncs will go at 7:30. Both games will be broadcast on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Big Horn and Tongue River basketball teams will open next week on the road at tournaments in Lusk and Thermopolis. The Big Horn teams follow up with another tournament in two weeks. The Big Horn girls won’t play a home game until after the first of the year. The Rams are also scheduled for their first varsity home game in January. For the Tongue River teams, they each have one home game in December. The boys host Rocky Mountain on December 7th; the girls will host riverside December 8th. The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers open their season next Friday at a big invitational tournament in Powell. The Broncs are scheduled to host a dual with Gillette on December 13th. The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc cross country teams just finished up competing in the Nike National Team Cross Country Southwest Regional meet in Tempe, Arizona. The meet was split into three divisions, and the Lady Broncs were second. The Broncs finished 5th. Ryan Sorneson and Dylan Morin finished in 14th and 18th place. The Lady Broncs finished 2nd, with six runners placing in the top 20. The division was won by Lela Carpenter, with Dana Morin 2nd, Emily Bobinchak was 9th, Erin Kinsey 16th, Jessica Harrelson was 18th, and Erica Roman was 19th. This was the first ever Nike Team National Southwest Regional. It’s expected to become an annual event. 11/21/07 Sports for Wednesday The first National Junior College Men’s Basketball Poll is out, and the 6-0 Sheridan College Generals are ranked 13th in the top 25 poll. Polls are the last thing head coach Joel Davidson wants to talk about after only six games, but you can get a little grin from the coach if you mention it. This addition of the Generals looks as tough as ever. Davidson says the players have made themselves into a pretty good team by putting each other to the test in practice every day. They play their first home game of the season Friday. The coach knows the players will be nervous, but he lets them work it out on the court. And finally today, they have been blowing out lesser teams big time over the first three weeks of the season. The Generals play Little Big Horn CC Friday night at 8pm. In the night cap of the first day at the Lions Club Tournament, we will broadcast the game live for you on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Lady Generals are 7-0. The National Women’s Poll comes out later today, and we’ll have to wait and see if the Lady Generals get any votes. They will try and keep their winning streak alive Friday evening against Little Horn CC. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 6 o’clock The first games are at 2pm and 4 pm in the 2 o’clock game. The Western Wyoming women play Rocky Mountain College and at 4pm the Northwest College trappers play Rocky Mountain. On Saturday, the early games at 11am and 1pm, with the Lady Generals playing at 3pm and the Generals at 5pm. Tickets for the Lions Club Tournament can be purchased at the door. 11/20/07 Sports for Tuesday The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc basketball teams open the new season on November 30th, with homes games against Green River. The Broncs and Lady Bronc open the basketball season with a double header at Sheridan High School a week from Friday. Both teams are a week into their pre-season practice. Lady Broncs head coach Mark Elliott says the Lady Broncs program has been built on aggressive defense, and their opponents this year will get another full dose from the Lady Broncs. Next Friday, November 30th, the Lady Broncs open with Green River. The Sheridan Broncs, like the Lady Broncs, will be playing in a new conference this season. The state has divided the 4-A into an East and West Conference, joining Sheridan in the East. This season includes Gillette, Riverton, Laramie and both Cheyenne schools. Broncs head coach Mike Ibach says it will take some getting used to, but they’ll adjust and are looking forward to starting the season. The Broncos also open at home next Friday, with the Lady Broncs hosting Green River. The Bronc wrestlers open next week at a tournament in Powell. Next weekend, their first home dual will be December 13th, when they host a conference dual with Gillette. That will be one of only two home duals for the Broncs. This season, they will host the East Conference tournament in February. Tongue River Eagles played for the 2-A State Title last spring. Head coach Larry Moser welcomes back one starter from last year’s team, as the Eagles work through their second week of pre-season practice. Moser says, so far so good. The lone returning starter from last spring’s runner-up teams is All-Stater Rob Johnson. Moser says its nice to have such a great player to build around. Moser says their big job will be to build up their depth. The Eagles and Lady Eagles open their season next week at a tournament in Thermopolis. The Wyoming Cowboys played at Lamar University last night. The Pokes pick up the win 75-71. Brandon Ewing hit for 18 points, to lead the Cowboys in scoring. The Pokes are now 2-1 and will play their next game on the road at Wichita State Saturday night. That game tips off at 6 o’clock, and will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Denver Broncos hosted the Tennessee Titans last night. The Broncos had four touchdowns that covered at least 41 yards each, and the Broncos went on to win the game 34-20. The Broncos are now 5-5 and tied with San Diego on top in the afc West next up Denver plays at the Chicago Bears Sunday. The Sheridan Lions Club will host their Thanksgiving Basketball Classic in the Hoffman Dome at Sheridan College Friday and Saturday. Friday’s early games are at 2pm and 4pm. Pre-game starts Friday morning at 11am, with kickoff at noon. Sheridan High School Activities Director Don Julian has announced that Kevin Riser has been named the next Sheridan Bronc soccer coach. Riser came to Sheridan High School this school year. He teaches social studies and was a member of the Bronc football coaching staff. This fall, Riser takes over his new duties immediately. The spring soccer season opens the first week in March.
11/19/07 Sports for Monday The Sheridan College basketball teams remain unbeaten after sweeping weekend games on the road. The Lady Generals are 7-0 and have won five straight on the road. They blew out McCook, Nebraska Saturday by 30. But the two big games were Thursday and Friday, when they cam from behind in the second half of both games to beat Snow College and Eastern Utah. Mcarthy says the Lady Generals are starting to find out how good they can be. The Lady Generals play Friday night at 6 o’clock and Saturday at 3 during the Annual Lions Club Thanksgiving Tournament. The Generals are 5-0 after winning two games over in Powell over the weekend. They blew out Rocky Mountain. College 111-47 on Friday .Coach Joel Davidson says even though the game wasn’t competitive, they did take some good things out of it. On Saturday, they played a much better team and came out on top against Williston, North Dakota, even though they all admitted they didn’t play well. This week, the Generals play at home for the first time and they are all looking forward to playing in front of the home fans. The 33rd Annual Lions Club Thanksgiving Basketball Classic tips off Friday afternoon, with games at 2 and 4 o’clock. The Lady Generals will play at 6pm and the Generals at 8pm on Saturday. There are games at 11am and 1pm, then the Lady Generals at 3pm and the Generals at 5pm. Tickets are $6/Adults and $3/students. The tickets are all day passes for every game. Teams joining the Sheridan College teams this year include the teams from Little Horn CC, Western Wyoming, Northwest Wyoming, and Rocky Mountain. College. 11/16/07 Sports for Friday The Sheridan College Lady Generals are 5-0, after coming from behind in the second half to beat Snow College yesterday in a tournament at Casper College. The Lady Generals were down 15 points, with 10 minutes to play, then roared back to take the game 63-58. Today, they continue play in Casper, facing Eastern Utah. The Sheridan College Generals open play today at a tournament in Powell. They play Rocky Mountain College today. They beat the Bears by 25 in Billings Monday night. They will also play them next Saturday, on the final night of the Lions Club Thanksgiving Tournament. The one thing the Generals have to watch out for is over-confidence; and playing them three times in two weeks doesn’t concern head coach Joel Davidson. Tomorrow, the Generals have their tough game. They play Williston, North Dakota. They beat Williston two weeks ago in North Dakota. The Wyoming basketball Cowboys play their next game in Beaumont, Texas at Lamar University Monday night, live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 o’clock. The football Cowboys host BYU tomorrow. Broadcast time is at 11 o’clock. Kickoff is at noon on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Pokes must upset the Cougars to keep their bowl game hopes alive. Class 5-A All-State football selections have been made. The Broncs’ Josh Dunkelberger made the 1st team as a running back and kick-returner. Dusty Daniels made the All-State 2nd team as a wide receiver. On defense, Taylor Beard made the 2nd team at defensive back, Matt Hurst made the 2nd team on the defensive line, and Ryan Morton made the 2nd team as a linebacker. Making the 2-A All-State team from Big Horn includes Matt Metzger, Jake St. John, Clancy Phillips, Tim Mendoza and JD Simpson. From the Tongue River Eagles Rob Johnson, Josh Duryea and Eli Hammett; and on the Class 1-A All-State team from NSI, Devin Wilson. Sheridan High School Activities Director Don Julian has announced that the winter sports meeting for all Sheridan High School athletes and parents will take place Monday November 26th. The girls basketball meeting will be held at 5:30 in the SHS Cafeteria, And the meeting for boys basketball, wrestling, and indoor track will take place at 6 pm also in the SHS cafeteria. Don Julian will also be our guest tomorrow morning on The Coaches Show. He will be wearing his ad hat on the show tomorrow, as we discuss activities and sports at Sheridan High School. The Sheridan Recreation District has announced a new class for anyone interested in learning how to box. They will have an organizational meeting next Tuesday at 7pm, at the old Highland Park School building. The class will teach boxing fundamentals. 11/15/07 Sports for Thursday The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers open their season with a new conference. The Wyoming High School Activities Association has moved all 4-A teams into an East/West Conference configuration. The Broncs will have conference opponents Gillette, Riverton, Laramie, and both Cheyenne East and Central. Sheridan High School wrestling head coach Corey Hamrick says they’ve been busy this week, and it will be a learning process for the Broncs as he welcomes back a youthful team this season. The first tournament of the year will be in Powell, starting November 30th. Hamrick says they have lots of hard work before they take the mat in Powell. The Broncs’ first home action will be a dual December 3rd against Gillette. In other local action this week, the Sheridan College Lady Generals open a three-day tournament in Casper today. Coach Frank Mcarthy says they take a big step in competition this week, and will see right where the players stand after starting 4-0. They play two schools from Utah. They face Snow College today, Eastern Utah tomorrow, and wrap up the weekend Saturday against McCook, Nebraska. Mcarthy says the players have shown a lot of improvement, especially after winning two on the road last week. Sticking with women’s college basketball tonight, the Wyoming Cowgirls play at Kansas. The game can be heard live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Broadcast time will be at 6:45. The next game for the Cowboys will be Monday night, when they play in Beaumont, Texas at Lamar University. That game can also be heard live on KWYO, beginning at 6:30. The Sheridan College Generals take a 4-0 record out on the road tomorrow for two games at a tournament hosted by Northwest College in Powell. 11/14/07 Sports for Wednesday The Sheridan College basketball teams have combined to start the season 8-0. The Lady Generals are 4-0 after winning two games in Colorado Springs. Coach Frank Mcarthy says getting two on the road this early is big for the players. The next test for the Lady Generals comes this week, when they play three games at a tournament in Casper. The tournament starts tomorrow. They open with Snow College from Utah, then play another good game with Eastern Utah, and finish up with McCook Nebraska. The Generals are 4-0 after beating Rocky Mountain College Monday night - their second win over the Bears. The Generals play two games in Powell, at Northwest College, Friday and Saturday. And with a slight scheduling snafu, the Generals play the Bears again Friday. They finish up the tournament playing Williston, North Dakota Saturday. Next week, the Sheridan Lions Club hosts a Sheridan basketball tradition with the 33rd Annual Lions Club Thanksgiving Classic Tournament. Teams playing this year include the Sheridan College teams, plus Northwest College, Little Big Horn College, Western Wyoming, and Rocky Mountain College. Games Friday will be at 2pm, 4pm, 6pm, and 8pm. The Lady Generals play Little Horn at 6pm, and the Generals face Little Horn at 8pm. Saturday’s games will be at 11am, 1 pm, 3pm, and 5pm. The Lady Generals play at 3pm the Generals go at 5pm. Tickets for the tournament will be sold at the door. All tickets are day passes for all games: $6 for adults and $3 for students. Proceeds from this event go to support the Lions Club Youth Eyeglasses Program. The Wyoming Cowboys dropped their game at Denver University last night. DU went out to a 12-3 lead and never gave it up, beating the Cowboys 76-65. Next up for the Pokes is a game Monday night at Lamar in Beaumont Texas. The Wyoming Cowgirls play at Kansas tomorrow night. You can hear the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Broadcast time is at 6:45pm. The Wyoming football team must win their final two games to have a chance at a bowl game. Most likely it would be the Poinsettia Bowl, but they have to upset BYU Saturday in Laramie. 11/13/07 Sports for Tuesday Local high school basketball teams and the Sheridan Bronc wrestlers opened practice yesterday. The Sheridan Lady Broncs open the new season as the defending State Champions. The benchmark for the Lady Broncs’ run over the last few years has been defense and depth. Head coach Mark Elliott says that’s an area they have to build back up going into this season, and that for the Lady Broncs to make another late season run, it’s going to be their aggressive style of defense that will make the difference, so the players will be getting a good dose this week. The Broncs also took the floor last night. Coach Mike Ibach says they’ve got a lot of work for the players this week, and with just two weeks to get ready for the first game, the players and coaches have a tight time-line. The Broncs and Lady Broncs open at home on the 30th with games against Green River. The season opens for all of our Sheridan County teams November 30th. The Bronc wrestlers open at a tournament in Powell. The Big Horn basketball teams open their season playing at a tournament in Lusk, and the Tongue River teams open at a tournament in Thermopolis. In other basketball action, the Sheridan College Generals will play at a tournament at Northwest College in Powell Friday and Saturday. The Lady Generals play three games at a tournament in Casper this week; the tournament opens Thursday. Next week, both teams are the hosts for the 33rd Annual Sheridan Lions Club Thanksgiving Basketball Classic at the Hoffman Dome. There will be games Friday the 23rd at 2pm, 4pm, 6pm and 8pm. The Sheridan County YMCA will be offering free racquetball clinics for all ages on Thursdays and Saturdays, beginning November 29th and running through January 5th. 11/12/07 sports for Monday The Big Horn Rams fell behind in the first half made a great comeback to take the lead in the fourth quarter but the Riverside Rebels made a 99 yard touchdown drive and added a 2 pt. Conversion to win the game 21-20, Riverside led a defensive first half 7-5 at half time they went ahead 13-5 in the 3rd quarter then the Rams got rolling tied the game late in the third quarter on a Matt Metzger to Taylor Graves touchdown pass then got the two point conversion the Rams took the lead with 10:35 to play in the game on a Metzger one yard run Riverside gave the ball up on downs on their next possession the Rams had a chance to put the game away but punted Metzger’s punt was perfect the ball landed on the one yard line the Rams covered it and the dramatic finish started the Rebels went 99 yards and scored with 3:05 to play the Rams still led 20-19 but the Rebels went for the win and got the 2 point conversion got it went ahead 21-20 the Rams had one last chance but couldn’t move the ball, the Rebels got the ball on downs and ran out the clock to take the title. Rams head coach Bob St. John says it’s tough to lose such a close game even though the Rams came up short the game lived up to it’s billing as both teams put on a great show for the spectators. The Rams end their season 10-2. St. John says the Big Horn players put in the time and had a great season. The high school basketball and wrestling season’s open today, today is the first day of practice all of our Sheridan County Basketball teams open the season November 30th the Bronc Wrestlers also open on the 30th. The Sheridan College Generals had the weekend off tonight they put their 3-0 record on the line with a game at Rocky Mtn. College in Billings this weekend they’ll play two games at a tournament at Northwest College in Powell. The Lady Generals will head to Casper this week for a tournament they’ll play three games Thursday, Friday and Saturday both teams will play together during the annual Lions Club Tournament November 23rd and 24th. The Wyoming Football Cowboys got blown out Saturday. At Utah the Utes pounded the Pokes 50-0 the Cowboys play at home Saturday against BYU and then end the season in two weeks at Colorado State. 11/09/07 Sports for Friday The title game kicks off tomorrow afternoon at one. The Rams and Riverside play in the same conference. The Rams took the regular season title, with Riverside 2nd. They played in week three, with the Rams coming out on top in overtime. Big Horn head coach Bob St. John says both teams know what the other does, and they know the personnel, so it should be another close game. And since both teams have so much information on each other, the game could come down to one possession or one big play. The Sheridan Broncs will play four of their first six game on the road. The Broncs open next year at home with Miles City, Montana; then two on the road at Laramie and Casper Natrona. In week four, they play Gillette at home before road games at Riverton and Cody. The Broncs finish up with back-to-back home games with Cheyenne Central and Casper Kelly Walsh. Not much changes for Big Horn and Tongue River; they will play all the same teams they played this season. Big Horn will open at home with NSI. The Eagles open on the road at Wright. The annual meeting between the Rams and Eagles will come on during the final week of the regular season. The NSI Wolves’ schedule for next year includes all the same teams they played this year. 11/08/07 Sports for Thursday The Sheridan College Lady Generals take their 2-0 record out onto the road tomorrow for two games at the Air Force Academy. Head coach Frank Mcarthy says they are taking a slow approach to the season, to make sure the build a good foundation for the big games after the first of the year. The Lady Generals leave today for their annual trip to the Air Force Academy. Mcarthy says they like playing in this event - the best thing for the team is to play against good competition. Following the trip south, they play at a tournament in Casper next week, and then back home for the Lions Club Tournament Thanksgiving weekend. The Generals are off this week. They play three road games next week. They play at Rocky Mountain College Monday; then over to Northwest College in Powell next weekend for a two day tournament; then back to the Hoffman Dome for the Lions Club Tournament. Sheridan American Legion Baseball will hold their player meeting tonight at Sheridan High School. All Sheridan Jets and Troopers players are asked to attend. Coaches Kyle Warnke and Ryan Murner will be there to discuss their upcoming off season workout schedule. The meeting will start at 7 o’clock in the SHS cafeteria. The Big Horn Rams take on the Riverside Rebels for the 2-A football title Saturday. This isn’t new territory for the Rams. This will be their fourth State Title game under head coach Bob St. John, and he says one big key to any team making it to the finals is good senior leadership. The Rams beat Riverside 13-12 in overtime back on September 14th. St, John says both teams know each other very well, and expects a good game with the Rebels. 11/07/07 Sports for Wednesday The Class 2-A State Football Championship kicks off Saturday at 1 o’clock in Big Horn, as the Rams and Riverside Rebels square off. The two conference opponents went into overtime in their regular season game in Basin, with the Rams coming out on top 13-12. That was almost two months ago. Now, they meet for the title. This will be Big Horn’s 4th title game appearance since 2000 under head coach Bob St. John. He says the coaches want the players to enjoy the ride and have fun this week. St. John says it’s hard to compare teams, but knows how much work the players put in to get a chance to play for a State Championship, and the Rams would love to see a Big Home crowd out for the game Saturday. St. John also says it feels great to be a part of the great football tradition that Sheridan County has enjoyed for so many years. Again, kickoff is set for 1 o’clock. When you talk about Sheridan County High School football State Championship tradition since 1990, Sheridan, Big Horn, Tongue River, and NSI have combined to play in 14 State Championship games in the last 18 seasons. Sheridan played in 7 title games and won five; Big Horn played in five, including Saturday’s game, and won two; NSI played in their title game in 2001 and lost at Cokeville; and last year, Tongue River lost against Big Piney. In the decade of the 1980’s, Sheridan County teams played in six State Title games. Sheridan won two in 1982 and 1986; Big Horn played in three title games in the 80’s, winning one; and Tongue River lost in the 1984 game against Mountain. View. 11/06/07 Sports for Tuesday The Sheridan College Lady Generals basketball team is 2-0 and will head out on the road this week for games down in Colorado. After winning their first two games at home last week, Coach Frank Mcarthy says that was the start they were looking for. And this week as they head out on the road for the first time, Mcarthy says the players learned a lot from finally getting to play regular season games instead of scrimmages; and through two games, the Lady Generals guards look like they’ll be tough this season. They play two games at the Air Force Academy Friday and Saturday against the team they beat Friday, and they also play Northeastern Arizona.. Another Lady Generals note: Freshmen Randa Claybaugh suffered a high ankle sprain a couple of weeks ago, and is expected to rejoin practice in the next few days.

11/05/07 Sports for Monday The Big Horn Rams pulled off a 13-8 win over Saratoga Saturday, to advance to their fourth State Title game in the last 7 years. The Rams scored first when Saratoga fumbled the opening kickoff, but after a Saratoga touchdown and a safety, the Panthers led 8-7 going into the 4th quarter. Clancy Phillips ran wild with 242 yards. His 41 yard touchdown late in the third quarter gave the Rams a 13-8 lead. The defense picked off two Saratoga passes late in the game to preserve the win and a trip to this year’s State Title game, which they host Saturday afternoon against Riverside. After the win, Rams quarterback Matt Metzger said for the 2nd week in a row, they found a way to come back. They got it done with defense and some big plays at the end of the game. Head coach Bob St. John was proud of the players. Clancy Phillips was the star of the day, but penalties hurt several drives that could have made the margin of victory a little wider. But miscues don’t really matter, now that they will play for the State Championship Saturday at 1 o’clock against Riverside. The Rams beat the Rebels 13-12 in overtime in the third week of the season. The NSI Wolves were up against the defending Class 2-A State Champs in their semi final game Saturday. Southeast won the 2-A title last fall and dropped down to 1-A this season, and have dominated play. The Cyclones beat the Wolves 67-0 two weeks ago in the semi final game. NSI’s shot at a major upset ended early, and Southeast won it 42-8. They host Guernsey in Saturday’s 1-A title game. Also this week, Kemmerer will host Glenrock in the 3-A title game; Buffalo will meet Jackson for the 4-A championship; and Evanston will take on Cheyenne East for the 5-A title. All five games will be played Saturday. The Sheridan College Generals opened the season 3-0. The Lady Generals opened 2-0. The Lady Generals played at home last Thursday and Friday, and beat Eastern Wyoming and the AFA. This week, they make their annual trip down to Colorado Springs for a tournament at the Air Force Academy. In other action from the weekend, the Wyoming football Cowboys suffered a complete melt down at San Diego State Saturday night. They led 21-0 heading into the half, but the Aztecs scored a late 2nd quarter touchdown, and the melt down started and ended with the Pokes losing 27-24..This week, they go back our on the road for a game at Utah before returning home to play BYU on the 17th. The Denver Broncos also melted down in their game yesterday, and were blown out by the Detroit Lions 44-7. The Broncos were never in the game, and this week they play another road game at Kansas City. Former Cheyenne Central All-Stater Tom Parks led five Generals in double figures, with 29 points. Tonight, the Generals get a big step up in competition when they take on the host team Williston. The Lady Generals went out to a 14 point half time lead, and blew out Eastern Wyoming 72-44. Tahnee Robinson led the Lady Generals with 24 points, Tonisha Mack had 18, and Lyndie Neville 14. The Lady Generals finish off their two day tournament tonight at the Hoffman Dome. The first game tonight, at 5 o’clock, will have Western Wyoming taking on Eastern Wyoming .The Lady Generals play the Air Force Academy at 7 pm. The Big Horn Rams host the Saratoga Panthers tomorrow in one Class 2-A semi final playoff football game. The Rams are 8-1, and Saratoga is 7-2. The teams have three common opponents: Sundance, Burns and Tongue River. Saratoga beat all three. The Rams lost at Sundance for their only loss of the season, but that was eight weeks ago. Last week, the Rams won a tough hard fought game with Burns, while the Panthers beat Tongue River 26-20. Ram head coach Bob St. John says they’ll try and find Saratoga’s weakness and go after them. NSI head coach Ryan Oatts says they know they are the underdogs; they want to use that against Southeast tomorrow. Coach Joel Davidson says today’s game is one they should win to help ease them into two tough games tomorrow and Saturday. Former Sheridan College men’s basketball coach and current University of Montana assistant men’s basketball coach Brian Marso has been given a leave of absence from the team, after his second DUI arrest in Missoula, Montana. The latest incident came this past Saturday night. Marso was also arrested for DUI in Missoula back in 2004. At that time, he was also an assistant for the Grizzlies. He left Missoula after that season, and coached for two years at Kansas Junior Colleges before returning to the Grizzlies last season. Marso was not with the team during their exhibition game last night, and head coach Wayne Tinkle said after the game, “We are giving him some time to sort through some things and get a plan in place; when we are confident he has done that we will welcome him back”.
