06/29/07 Sports for Friday The Sheridan Broncs wrap up a week of mini camp today as the team prepares for a team camp at Black Hills State University. Head Coach Don Julian has been impressed all week with the work the players have put in during their weight room work and outdoor practice sessions in the last few weeks. Julian has assembled his coaching staff; it’ll be a young group. Julian says they bring a lot of enthusiasm to the workouts every day. And, Julian says, they focused hard on a few areas this week, but they really need to get the offensive and defensive systems in before they make the trip over to Spearfish for the team camp in two weeks. After the team camp, Sheridan High School has invited University of Wyoming track coach Don Yentes to hold a speed camp for all athletes, both junior and senior high ages in July. Julian is also going to schedule a youth football camp for players and coaches tentatively set for July, as well. The Sheridan Jets play a home double header tonight against the Cadets from Rapid City. The first game of the double header is scheduled to start at 5 o’clock. The Troopers are off until Tuesday night, when they host games with Sturgis, South Dakota. Game one of the double header will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO, and also on 104.7 FM HD-3 ESPN radio. The first pitch will be tossed out at 5 o’clock. The Colorado Rockies play at the Houston Astros tonight. We will have the game live for you on AM 14-10 KWYO. Broadcast time is set for 5:30.
06/28/07 Sports for Thursday The Sheridan Bronc football program is holding a mini-camp at Sheridan High School this week. First year Bronc coach Don Julian says his been impressed with what he’s seen from the players so far. Julian says the senior class has done a good job of taking on the leadership role for the coming season, and he’s excited about the coaching staff he’s been able to put together. The Broncs will compete at a team camp at Black Hills State University in Spearfish starting July 8th. The preseason opens for the Broncs August 13th , ith the first game at home August 25th against Glendive, Montana.. We’ll have more from Bronc Camp tomorrow. The Sheridan Troopers are enjoying a couple of off days. Some of the players were even spotted yesterday in the weight room with their football teammates. The Troops are off until next Tuesday, when they host two with Sturgis. We will broadcast the play by play live on AM 14-10 KWYO, and also live on ESPN radio on 104.7 FM HD-3. 06/27/07 Sports for Wednesday Aravada / Clearmont graduate Randa Claybaugh has qualified for the High School National Finals Rodeo She will compete in the breakaway roping The National Finals will be held over a two week period in Springfield, Illinois. The first go opens on Sunday, July 22nd..This fall, basketball fans in Sheridan County will get a chance to see Claybaugh continue her basketball career when she suits up as a freshmen for the Sheridan College Lady Generals. Claybaugh has had quite a 2007 after leading the Arvada/ Clearmont Lady Panthers to the Class 1-A State Basketball Championship. The Sheridan Troopers are off for the next several days which is a much deserved break The Troopers are coming of a stretch of 15 games in 14 days. The Troops will play their next home game on Tuesday against Sturgis, South Dakota. Coach Kyle Warnke says the Troops are hanging in there after this latest run of games, and they’ll get another good challenge Tuesday. We will broadcast the Troopers Sturgis game on Tuesday, live on AM 14-10 KWYO. The game can also be heard live on ESPN radio on 104.7FM HD channel 3. Broadcast time will be at 5 o’clock. The Sheridan Jets have had their struggles lately, as the younger players get their first taste of American Legion Baseball; but head coach Ryan Murner says staying positive and getting the players more games and practice time is the number one priority. Murner also says the only thing they can do is just keep moving forward. The Jets will play at home Friday evening against a team from Rapid City. The double header will get underway at 5 o’clock. The Colorado Rockies lost again at the Chicago last night. Our next Rockies broadcast will be Friday, when they play at Houston. The broadcast will get started at 5:30 live on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Sheridan Youth Activities Association will host their 5th Annual Golf Classic Tournament at Kendrick Golf Course on Saturday, July 14th. Proceeds raised from the tournament go to support local youth baseball and other youth activities in Sheridan County. The tournament is a four person team scramble. Registration is still be excepted the Wyoming games are open to all seniors. So many of the participants will be coming in to town from all over the region and even Canada State Games coordinator Jim Eggenberger says there is plenty of time to register and they will have lots of events to suit each person’s needs. Eggenberger says the competitors will have a lot of fun and chance to meet a lot of new people. 06/25/07 sports for Monday Mila Stender earned high school and college all-American status in basketball at Sheridan high school and at the University of Utah. Stender was inducted Saturday night into the Wyoming sports hall of fame. She’s says it was a wonderful evening. Along with all the honors Saturday, Stender says she got a chance to meet and visit with some great coaches and athletes. The Sheridan Bronc Football team opens up a week long camp this evening at Sheridan High School. The camp is open to all incoming freshmen through seniors. The camp will run through Friday from 6 to 8 o’clock. Each night players should report to the weight room area this evening and be ready to practice. Players should have t-shirt, shorts and shoes. For the opening session this camp is a precursor to the Broncs participating in a camp at Black Hills State in Spearfish starting July 8th. The 2007 Wyoming Senior Olympic Games are just a month away from beginning in Sheridan. Sheridan’s Jim Eggenberger is the state coordinator for the games. He just wants to remind all seniors to get involved the games has over 10 age divisions starting with the 50-54 age division and all the way to the 95 and up age division. To become a competition a volunteer or looking for more information you can contact Jim Eggenberger at 673-0000 or the Wyoming Senior Game website at www.wyseniorolympics.com the games will run in Sheridan July 26th, 27th and 28th. Organizers of the big horn mountain wild and scenic trail run will host a barbeque for all their volunteers tomorrow night at 6 o’clock at shelter #3 in Kendrick Park. 06/22/07 Sports for Friday Mila Stender found out this past spring that she would be inducted in the Class of 2007 of the Wyoming Sports Hall of Fame. Stender gained All-American status during her playing days at Sheridan High School, then went on to play college basketball at the University of Utah, and gained All-America status for the Utes, as well. She helped the Utes win three conference titles, with two appearances in the Women’s NCAA Tournament and one appearance in the women’s NIT. Stender says she feels honored to be named to the Wyoming Sports Hall of Fame She also says since her playing days, women’s basketball has changed a lot, and for the better. Stender’s daughter Stephanie currently plays basketball at the University of Montana; daughter Erica will be a senior for the Lady Broncs this next season; and son TJ will be a sophomore at Sheridan High School this fall. The 2007 class will be inducted into the Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Casper tomorrow night. Sheridan High School activates director Don Julain visited Sheridan Media yesterday for an appearance on Public Pulse. Activates are an important part for any high school student, and Julian says study after study has shown that students involved with extra-curricular activities are not only better students, but also do better after they graduate from high school. On the football side of things, Julian and the Sheridan Bronc coaches will hold a mini camp next week. The fall sports season will officially open August 13th. The first Broncs football game will be at home August 25th against Glendive, Montana.. The Sheridan Troopers will spend the next three days competing in a tournament down in Cheyenne. They will play their next home games on Tuesday, July 3rd. They host a double header with Sturgis, South Dakota. The first game will get underway at 1 o’clock. Tomorrow is the deadline to enter the Moe Martini Memorial Golf Tournament. You need to register at the Sheridan Country Club or Martini’s Auto Detailing. The tournament will shot gun start at 9:30 Sunday morning, at the Sheridan Country Club. The tournament is a four person scramble. Teams will be put together by a blind draw the morning of the tournament. 06/21/07 Sports for Thursday The Sheridan Troopers take a 10-10 record on the road today as they open up play at a tournament in Cheyenne. They’ll play one game against Post #6, and then take on teams from Denver, Salt Lake, Boise Idaho and North Platte, Nebraska. The Troopers’ next home date will be Tuesday, July 3rd, when they host two games with Sturgis, South Dakota. We will also be broadcasting that game live on AM 14-10 KWYO and also live on ESPN HD radio on 94.9 HD Channel 3. The Sheridan Bronc football team will have a mini camp next week. The camp is for all incoming freshmen through seniors. This is a tune up for the Broncs Summer Team Camp at Black Hills State University next month. Coach Don Julian says it’s important to have a strong off season program, and the big challenge is to make sure they build a positive attitude heading into a new season with a new coaching And keeping it on the positive side, the 2007 schedule sets up well in the Broncs’ favor. Next week’s camp will run Monday through Friday from 6 to 8 o’clock each evening. Players are asked to wear t-shirt, shorts and football shoes and meet in the weight room area at the high school. 06/20/07 Sports for Wednesday Annie Lofgren continues to rehab from injures received in a traffic accident that occurred during the spring snow storm that hit the Sheridan area in late March. Yesterday, we found out that rehab has been going well over the last 12 weeks, and now Lofgren has her sights set on playing basketball next month in the Wyoming Coaches Association North vs. South game in Casper. Lofgren says she’s been thinking what it will feel like to put her shoes on and get back on the court for the first time since the accident.. The Sheridan Troopers open play at a tournament in Cheyenne tomorrow, and get another opportunity to play some really good teams over the next five days. There is no doubt this will be the toughest stretch of games the Troopers will have all year - even tougher than the State Tournament. They play six time defending Wyoming State Champs Post #6 from Cheyenne. They also will face teams from Boise, Idaho; Denver; Salt Lake,; and North Platte, Nebraska. Coach Kyle Warnke says they’ll find out what their made of this week. The Moe Martini Scholarship Golf Tournament will be played Sunday at the Sheridan Country Club. It’s a four person team scramble. Sheridan Bronc football team will have their first camp under new head coach Don Julian next week. For the last week and a half, the Broncs started their off season weight program. Julian reports he’s getting an average of 50 players in the weight room every day. Next week, the Broncs will have a mini camp Monday through Friday from 6pm to 8pm each night. The camp is open to all incoming freshmen through seniors. The camp is free. The players will get a lot of fundamentals, and the coaches will begin to install the offense and defense as well. They will meet in the weight room area Monday evening. Players should have t-shirt, shorts and shoes for the first work-out.. The Broncs will compete in a team camp at Black Hills State University, beginning July 8th. Julian also says he’s planning on hosting a youth football camp as well. The Tongue River Eagles just got back from the Wyoming Team Football Camp. Eagles head football coach Chuck Walters says they will have their Annual Eagle Camp July 18th, 19th and 20th. 06/19/07 Sports for Tuesday Who can forget the late March blizzard that shut down the Sheridan area for several days? Neither Tongue River High School student Annie Lofgren, nor her family and friends will ever forget. Lofgren was part of an entourage of Tongue River High School students traveling to Cheyenne for a school function, when the bus they were riding in and the car Lofgren was driving were involved in a multi-vehicle accident near Piney Creek on 1-90. Lofgren’s car was hit by an 18 wheeler, fracturing her pelvis in eight places. Now, just 12 weeks removed from the accident, Lofgren is just a few weeks away from a return to the basketball court. She spent several weeks in a wheelchair, then got back on her feet. She says she’s got a ways to go, but is getting closer to being back near full strength. The Wyoming Coaches Association North / South basketball games will be held next month, and Lofgren plans on being there to play for the North Squad. The Sheridan Troopers will play five games this week starting Thursday, when they open play at a tournament in Cheyenne. They’ll play games against Cheyenne Post #6, the six-time defending Wyoming State Champs. They have games against teams from Colorado, Utah, and Idaho. The Troopers next home games are scheduled for Tuesday, July 3rd against Sturgis, South Dakota. The Sheridan Jets have a home double header scheduled tonight against Wheatland. The first game is set to get underway at 5 o’clock after games in Casper, Wednesday. The Jets will play at home Sunday afternoon against a team from Billings. The Colorado Rockies are 51/2 games back in the National League Western Division, as they get ready to host a three game series with the New York Yankees. 06/18/07Sports for Monday Records fell during tough race conditions during the Big Horn Mountain Trail run over the weekend. Coordinator Michelle Maneval says race conditions were brutal on the competitors and changing conditions make the Big Horn trail run “one of the best in the country.” Maneval says the only way they can pull off this event is through the dedication of the volunteers. Even though course conditions were rough on the runners, the 100 mile race records were broken this year. As race organizers rest up this week, the plans are already set in motion for the event next year. The event set for the second weekend in June 2008. We will have complete results on the air tomorrow. The Sheridan troopers just finished up a four-day, eight game stretch that saw them go 4-4 after four road games Thursday and Friday. The troopers took three out of four over the weekend at home. They swept two games Saturday against Spearfish South Dakota and split two yesterday with the Billings Lobos. Coach Kyle Warnke says it was good for the players to get a lot games in. Not much rest for the troops this week before they head out on the road again they will play five games at a tournament in Cheyenne starting Thursday. Warnke says it another good opportunity to get in a lot more baseball. Sheridan college women’s basketball coach Frank Mcarthy opens his 2007 girl’s basketball camp this morning in the Hoffman Dome at Sheridan College. The camp will run through Thursday and runs each day from 9 a.m. till noon. If you are not pre-registered for the camp they will take registration at the Dome this morning before the camp opens. The 9th annual Moe Martini Scholarship Golf Tournament will be played Sunday at the Sheridan Country Club. Players register as singles and a blind draw is held from the pool of players to form four person teams for an 18-hole scramble. 06/15/07 Sports for Friday The Annual Big Horn Mountain Wild and Scenic Trail Run opens this morning at 11 o’clock with the official start of the 100 mile race. Spectators will have several opportunities to watch the action, but the best place may be the finish line in Scott Bicentennial Park in Dayton. If you would like to see some of the action just outside Dayton, and you’d like a little hike, you can get right in the middle of the competition. The 100 mile race opens at 11 o’clock this morning. The 50 mile, 50k, and 30k will start tomorrow morning. Newly graduated Sheridan High School senior Scott Pettit set a new Sheridan High School pole vault record this spring, going 15’1 and beating the old mark of 15 feet. Pettit finished second at the state meet in May, going 15 feet again, and had one more chance to represent Sheridan High School at the National Golden West meet in California - where he broke his own school record in his final jump. Pettitr says chasing that school record kept him focused all through his time as a Sheridan Bronc jumper. Congratulations today going out to Sheridan Scott Pettit for his third place finish at the National Golden West Track Meet in Sacramento, California. Pettit will continue his pole vaulting career in college. He will jump for Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri this fall. The Sheridan Troopers are sporting a 5-10 record this morning after splitting a double header with Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Last night in the first game/ the Troops beat Scottsbluff 6-2. JD Williams picked up the win going six innings. David Bledsoe came in relief to pick up the save. The Troops dropped the second game by a score of 14-4, as Scottsbluff broke open a tie game, to pull away in the final two innings. The Troopers will play a conference double header in Torrington tonight, then come home for a double header tomorrow at 1 o’clock with Spearfish, South Dakota. And Sunday, they host two with the Billings Lobos. The first game will also start at 1 o’clock. Sheridan High School and Sheridan College will host a high school boys basketball team camp this weekend. JV and varsity teams from Montana and .will be competing in round robin games. Games will be played all day Saturday and Sunday at Sheridan High School and the Hoffman Dome. Next week, Sheridan College women’s basketball coach Frank McCarthy will host his Annual Girls Basketball Camp. The camp will run Monday through Thursday from 9 to noon each day, and is open to all girls from the 1st through 12th grades. All campers will receive their own basketball and camp t-shirt. 06/14/07 Sports for Thursday The 100 mile race of the Big Horn Mountain Trial Run opens tomorrow morning at 11 o’clock. The 50 mile, 50k, and 30k races all start Saturday morning. Hundreds of runners from 42 states and nine foreign countries will compete in this year’s race. The Big Horn Mountain Run is a big draw for so many top-flight competitors. With so many runners on a course that stretches 100 miles, safety is the number one concern of race officials. And another dynamic of a 100 mile race is that runners will be moving around the mountains overnight. Race officials have a BBQ for runners and spectators set for the finish line in Scott Bicentennial Park in Dayton between 1 and 8 pm, Saturday. The elite 100 mile runners are expected to finish at around the 20 hour mark. The event concludes Sunday morning with the 100 mile and 50 mile award presentations, and pancake breakfast for all competitors on Grinnell Plaza from 8 to 11am. The Sheridan Troopers are 4-9 overall, and will play two road games this evening in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Troops coach Kyle Warnke says they know that Scottsbluff will be a good challenge tonight. They continue the road trip with a conference double header in Torrington tomorrow afternoon, then return to Thorne-Rider Stadium for home double headers Saturday and Sunday against Spearfish, South Dakota and the Billings Lobos. Both double headers start at 1 pm. The format is a four person team scramble. All players names are thrown into the hat, and a blind draw is held to determine teams. 06/13/07 Sports for Wednesday The 15th Annual Big Horn Mountain Wild and Scenic Trial Run begins with the 100 miles race Friday morning. The shorter distance races including the 50 mile, 50k, and 30k races all begin Saturday morning. Race coordinator Michelle Maneval says these ultra running competitors are amazing athletes, and any type of long distance racing is really the ability to mentally stay focused. The biggest category of runners is always the 30k event, which is a perfect distance for the novice participant. The races conclude in Scott Bicentennial Park in Dayton. Spectators are welcome, and we will have more of a preview of the event tomorrow. Sheridan College women’s basketball coach Frank McCarthy will host his Annual Sheridan College Basketball Camp next week at the Hoffman Dome. The camp is for all girls from the first through 12th grades. The camp runs daily from June 18th through the 21st, from 9 am to noon each day. This week, Sheridan College Generals basketball coach Joel Davidson, and Sheridan Bronc head coach Mike Ibach host their Third Annual Sheridan Boys Basketball Team Camp. Teams from all over Wyoming and Montana will take part in the two day camp. The format of the camp has teams playing round robin over the two days, beginning Saturday. In local football action news, Sheridan Bronc football coach Don Julian will hold a Bronc Mini Camp at the end of the month, June 25th through the 29th. The mini camp is being held as preparation for the Broncs’ attendance at a team camp at Black Hills State University in July. WHSAA rules say that every player attending a camp with contact must have at least three days of conditioning before they can participate. The camp at Black Hills State will run July 8th through the 11th. Fall drills for the Broncs open August 13th. The Broncs’ first game with the new head coach will be at home August 25th against Glendive, Montana. The Sheridan Troopers will play eight games in four days beginning Thursday and Friday, with double headers in Scottsbluff, Nebraska and Torrington. Then they come back to Thorne-Rider Stadium for two home dates Saturday and Sunday. They play Spearfish, South Dakota; and Sunday against the Billings Lobos. Both of those double headers will get underway at 1 o’clock. The Sheridan Jets home games scheduled for Friday evening are off Belle Fourche, South Dakota has been cancelled. The Jets will now play at home on Tuesday against Wheatland.
06/12/07 Sports for Tuesday The Sheridan Troopers are 4-9 overall after dropping two games against Post #22 last night. The first game had the Troopers play from behind early, then take the lead only to see Rapid come back again and with the game 6-4 in the second game. The Troopers had a lead again. but their bats cooled off; and Post #22 took advantage and pulled away with two big innings in the 6th and 7th to win the second game 13-3. Coach Kyle Warnke says in general, the Troops hit the ball pretty well but it wasn’t enough. The Troops schedule has been modified a little this week. the Troopers were to play in Torrington Wednesday. The games have been moved to Friday. Torrington joins the North Conference for the first time ever this year. Warnke says they know Torrington pretty well, since they have faced them several times at the State Tournament over the years. This week is going to be tough on the players, and will test their focus. They play eight games in four days: they play two in Scottsbluff, Nebraska Thursday; then two in Torrington Friday. Then they play at home Saturday and Sunday against Spearfish, South Dakota and the Billings Lobos. Games Saturday and Sunday will start at 1 o’clock. The Sheridan Jets home double header set for Friday evening has been cancelled. Belle Fourche, South Dakota informed Sheridan American Legion baseball that they would not be making the trip to Sheridan for their double header Friday, so the Jets are off until next Tuesday when they host two games with Wheatland. The Wyoming / South Dakota All-Star Basketball Series tipped off in Gillette last night. Both Wyoming teams consist of the players that played last week in the series with Montana. Both Wyoming teams won in the Razor City last night. The Wyoming girls beat South Dakota 87-83 in overtime. Cheyenne Central’s Hillary Carlson led the scoring with 23 points; Glenrock’s Josie Stewart had 19; and Sheridan’s Kelsey Boedecker had 13. Arvada/Clearmont’s Randa Claybaugh had 4 points, and Tongue River’s Courtney Johnson had 3 points. The Wyoming Boys All-Star Team beat South Dakota 95-89. Casper Natrona’s Art Steward led the way with 25 points; Evanston’s Cain Atkinson had 19; and Cheyenne’s James Johnson and Rock Spring’s Craig Wilk had 17 points each. Both Wyoming teams will; close out the All-Star Series for 2007 tonight with games in Spearfish, South Dakota. Big Horn Mtn. Wild and Scenic Trail Run will take place this weekend in Dayton. The Third Annual Dog and Cat Shelter Golf Tournament will be played Friday at the Powder Horn. 25 teams will play in the Annual Fundraiser. Next week, the 9th Annual More Martini Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament will be played at the Sheridan Country Club. The tournament will be played on Saturday, June 24th. 06/11/07 Sports for Monday Each team won a game in this year’s High School All-Star Basketball Series. The Wyoming girls won Friday night in Sheridan. On Saturday, the teams put on a great show, and played double overtime with Montana coming out on top 84-81. The Lady Bronc’s Kelsey Boedecker scored 20 on Saturday, with Cheyenne Central’s Hillary Carlson hitting for a game high 22. Carlson led all scorers on the weekend with 40 total points in the two games. All-Star Coach Frank McCarthy says going double overtime was great for the series, and he was happy with the play of the Wyoming girls. And, McCarthy says all the players were a pleasure to work with, and they had a great week Now it’s onto the Wyoming / South Dakota All-Star Series, which opens tomorrow in Gillette. The Wyoming Boys All-Stars got beat 100-93 on Friday, and had a score to settle Saturday, and they did - crushing Montana 80-63. The Wyoming boys led wire to wire, and were up 42-23 at halftime. They stretched the lead out to as many as 30 points before the Montana team made the score bit closer, but it was Wyoming’s night in Billings as five of the nine players scored in double figures, led by Casper Natrona’s Art Steward with 15 points. Cheyenne East’s James Johnson only had 7 points Saturday, but he had a thunderous dunk. They got Wyoming rolling, and he says they felt they had something to prove Saturday night. At the end of Friday’s game, Montana scored a dunk at the buzzer to get to 100 points. Coach Joel Davidson says he was happy for the players to be able to come out and get a split after Friday night’s loss. Evanston guard Cain Atkinson had a good game with 11 points, and says he knew they would perform better Saturday. And Rock Springs guard Craig Wilk says the team had a whole different attitude going into the game Saturday. The Wyoming boys will join the girls in playing the South Dakota All-Stars in Gillette tomorrow. 06/08/07 Sports for Friday The Wyoming / Montana High School All-Star Basketball Series gets underway tonight in the Hoffman Dome at Sheridan College. Last year, the Wyoming girls swept both games with the boys. All-Star Coach Frank McCarthy likes what he has seen from the Wyoming players this week, and they’ll face a real good player this weekend. Arvada/Clearmont All-Star Randa Claybaugh says they have great confidence heading into this year’s series, and Sheridan High School’s Kelsey Boedecker says that getting together with the rest of the All-Stars has been great fun for all the team members. The girls game tips off at 6 o’clock. The Wyoming Boys All-Stars will be highlighted by having Cheyenne East’s James Johnson on the roster. He’s a dominating athlete that the state of Wyoming hasn’t seen in a long time. All-Star Coach Joel Davidson says Johnson could possibly be the best high school player Wyoming has ever had. As for Johnson he says being a Wyoming All-Star is a great honor. The boys game tips off tonight at 8 o’clock. Also prior to each game, the Annual Ms. and Mr. Wyoming Basketball will be awarded to the states best players. The Shrine Bowl football game will be played in Casper tomorrow night. Seven players from Sheridan County are playing for the North Team. They are Jimmy Burgess and Nick Montano from Sheridan High School; Ryan Scafe, Wes Dobrenz and Tom White from Tongue River; Dustin Rougeau from Big Horn; and Anthony Davis from NSI, Tongue River head coach Chuck Walters is also a member of the North coaching staff The game will be played tomorrow night at Cheney Alumni Field at Casper Natrona High School. Trooper Baseball Camp is set to resume today, and will continue tomorrow. The Troopers are scheduled to play two games at home tonight. Trooper Camp was rained out yesterday. They will run today and carry the camp over tomorrow again from 9 to noon at Thorne-Rider Stadium. The Troopers host two games tonight against club teams from Billings West and Billings senior high schools. Monday afternoon they play a home double header against Post #22 from Rapid City. The first game will start at 3 o’clock. It’s another full day of activities today, as Senior Health and Fitness Week continues. Events are getting underway now with a cardio and strength class, raquetball at 8 o’clock; basketball, weight training class and water wave swimming class at 10 o’clock; billiards, badminton, table tennis and pickleball; and another water class at 11:15. 06/07/07 Sports for Thursday The Wyoming All-Star basketball team looks good as they get ready for tomorrow night’s showdown with the Montana All-Stars. The top boys’ player in Wyoming this past season was Cheyenne East’s James Johnson. He says it’s been fun to get together with the rest of the players. And there is one thing you can say - this Wyoming team doesn’t lack any confidence. Joining Johnson on the team is Casper Natron’s Art Steward. Sheridan College Generals Coach Joel Davidson is running the show this week, and says this is a fun group of players to be with. The best player of the ten is James Johnson, and Davidson says he a special kind of basketball talent. The evening tips off tomorrow night with the girls game at 6 o’clock, followed by the men’s game at 8 o’clock. Both games can be heard live on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Sheridan Troopers resume their schedule tomorrow. They will host a double header with two club teams from Billings The two teams are made up of players from Billings West and Billings Senior High Schools Then they have the weekend off and will host an afternoon double header with Rapid City Post #22 Monday. The Sheridan Jets will be on the road for the first time this season, as they compete at a tournament in Gillette. It’s day three of Senior Health and Fitness Week. Today’s activities are scheduled to open at 8 o’clock with some golf at Kendrick Golf Course. 10 o’clock activities include a walk, disc golf, croquet, card games, bingo, arts and crafts and pickleball. 06/06/07 Sports for Wednesday The Sheridan Troopers played two in Casper last night. The first game was the best game. The Oilers beat the Troops 6-3. The second game was all Casper, as the Oilers won it 11-0. The Troopers open Trooper Baseball Camp today. The camp runs through Friday at Thorne-Rider Stadium from 9 to noon each day. On Friday, the Troops play a home double header at 5 o’clock against a couple of Billings club teams. After the weekend off, the Troopers host a double header with Rapid City Post #22, Monday afternoon. The Wyoming All-Star basketball teams had their first practices yesterday. Three Sheridan County girls are part of this year’s Wyoming girls team. Randa Clayubaugh led the Arvada/Clearmont Lady Panthers to the program’s first ever State Title back in March. She says it’s a great honor to be on this team. Claybaugh is pretty good on the basketball court, and she’s also pretty good in the rodeo arena, as well. This spring she’s in the running for a possible trip to the National High School Finals. Courtney Johnson helped the Tongue River Lady Eagles dominate girls Class 2-A basketball for the last three seasons. The Lady Eagles have won three straight titles. Johnson says when you’re from Sheridan County, being on this team is a goal,and it’s a lot of fun being surrounded by so many talented players. Kelsey Boedecker capped off her high school career in March, leading the Lady Broncs to the Class 4-A State Championship. She says she set a goal to make this roster several years ago, and she looking forward to taking the court with nine other great players. Tomorrow we will take a look at a talented Wyoming Men’s All-Star team. Games Friday night will be at 6 and 8 pm in the Hoffman Dome. Both games will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO. This is Senior Health and Fitness Week. Today’s activities begin at 7:45 with a cardio and strength class at the YMCA. Racquetball begins at 8 o’clock. At nine o’clock, there will be basketball, instruction on weight machines, and a water waves swimming class. At 10 o’clock, there will be badminton, billiards, table tennis and pickelball. And,at 11:15, they will have an arthrosize water class. Lunch will be served at noon, sponsored by Bruce Burns. The YMCA activities continue through Saturday; and again, in case of in climate weather, some outdoor activities will be moved to the Old Highland Park School. 06/05/07 Sports for Tuesday The Sheridan Troopers are 2-7 overall as they open their conference season tonight in Casper. Coach Kyle Warnke says these a big early season road games, and the Troops will face a tough challenge from the Oilers. The Troopers host their Trooper Baseball Camp Wednesday through Friday. They also host a double header Friday night with a couple of teams from Billings, before hosting a double header with Rapid City Post #22 next Monday. The Sheridan Jets will play at Thorne-Rider Stadium tonight. The Jets dropped two on Saturday against Worland. This evening, Gillette comes in for two games. Coach Ryan Murner says his young squad is showing improvement, and they just need more games right now. Murner also says it’s always a got test when Sheridan plays a Gillette team. The first game tonight will get underway at 5 o’clock. Senior Health and Fitness Week kicks off this mooring in Whitney Commons. Registration runs from 9 to 10, Opening Ceremonies start at 10. They’ll have some lawn games and a walk before lunch at 11:30. Lunches every day through Saturday are free to all the participants. Tomorrow morning activities begin at 7:45, and in case of inclement weather, all activities will be held indoors at the Old Highland Park School. 06/04/07 Sports for Monday The Sheridan Troopers played in Rapid City yesterday, and dropped two games against Rapid City Post #320. The Troops dripped the first game 13-3, but played much better in the second game. It went into extra innings, but the Troops came up short in a 6-5 loss. Coach Kyle Warnke says the players came back well after a rough first game. They open conference play tomorrow in Casper. The next home date for the Troopers will be a week from today, when they host a double header with Post #22 from Rapid City. The Sheridan Jets will play at home tomorrow evening against Gillette. The double header will start at 5 o’clock. The 8th Annual Three on Three Hoop Jam Basketball Tournament was greeted with great weather, and went off with out a hitch. We caught up with tournament director Mike Mcafferty in downtown Sheridan yesterday. Once again, Mcafferty says, the Hoop Jam proved to be a great event for the community. The Wyoming / Montana High School All-Star Basketball Series will open Friday night in Sheridan. The players begin their work-outs for the Annual Border Battle with Montana tomorrow afternoon at the Hoffman Dome. The women’s team will practice from 1-3 o’clock, and the men’s team from 3-5 o’clock. Both teams will hold public scrimmages Wednesday night. Games Friday night will be at 5:30 and 7:30. 06/01/07 Sports for Friday The Sheridan Troopers have lost three straight after a two game winning streak, and stand at 2-4 on the season as they head into action Sunday in Rapid City. Then it’s the start of conference play with two in Casper next Tuesday. Coach Kyle Warnke says they are getting ready for some more good competition. The Troopers return to Sheridan next week, and will host their Annual Trooper Youth Baseball Camp Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at Thorne-Rider Stadium. The camp is open to all Webb Wright players, and costs $30 per camper. The camp will run each day from 9 to noon. Warnke has participated in the Trooper camp as a playe, and coach, and says it’s great baseball fundamentals for the campers - and the Trooper players get a kick out of it, as well. Registration forms are available at the Sheridan Rec Office in Thorne-Rider Park, or you can call American Legion Baseball general manger Dan Bilyue at 672-2376.. The next Troopers home game will be Monday, June 11th, when they host two with Rapid City Post #22. The Sheridan Jets will play a double header at home Saturday against Worland. The 3 on 3 Hoop Jam Basketball Tournament opens tomorrow morning in downtown Sheridan. The event will wrap up late Sunday afternoon. Courts will be set up on Main Street both north and south of Grinnell Plaza; so Main Street will be closed to vehicle traffic in that area through the weekend. The 2007 and 2008 Wyoming Senior Olympics will be held in Sheridan The games will be held at various sites in town the final weekend in July. Games organizer Jim Eggenberger has been competing the senior games for the past four years, and says participation will be huge when the games come to Sheridan next month. Along with the tradition Olympic sports like track and field, Eggenberger says seniors will be able to compete in a number of sports and activities. As a precursor to this year’s senior games, Sheridan is having Senior Health and Fitness Week next Tuesday through Saturday. Opening ceremonies will be held in Whitney Commons Tuesday morning. Registration for the week starts at 9 am.
