The Lady Broncs win the championship in Coach Mark Elliott’s ninth season leading the team. In the 4th quarter of the championship game, Natrona County didn’t make a basket. They’re only points came from the free-throw line. Elliott says their excellent defensive play carried them to a State Title. And finally, the play of senior point guard Kelsey Boedecker; her play was spectacular, her leadership on the court was the difference in the semi final and finals. She had 22 points in the win over Gillette, and 14 against NC, but her calming influence on the court for her teammates was probably the most important thing she brought to the gym each night. 2007 will go down as the greatest basketball season in Sheridan county history. The Lady Broncs championship ends a basketball post season that may never be matched in Sheridan County again. Five teams went to the State Tournaments the last two weeks. Three won State Championships, and two were runner-ups. Sheridan County has the 2007 Class 1-A champs, Arvada/Clearmont Lady Panthers; the three time 2-A champs, Tongue River Lady Eagles; the 4-A champ Sheridan Lady Broncs; the upstart Big Horn Lady Rams took TR into overtime in the 2-A Title game to place second; and the Tongue River Eagles went to the final seconds against Lyman in the 2-A Title game and finished 2nd. A group is organizing an event to honor all five teams. It has been tentatively scheduled for next week. The exact time and location for this public pep rally to honor all the players and coaches hasn’t been set, but we will let you know as soon as it’s announced. The Natrona County boys won the Class 4-A State Title, beating Laramie in the championship. The clock struck midnight early for Cinderella - Laramie, who made it to the title game as a four seed, had the biggest upset win of the tournament when they took out number one seed Gillette in the first round. The Camels won the consolation bracket trophy, beating Green River.. Evanston took the third place game over the other number one seed Cheyenne east. The Gillette Girls beat Cheyenne Central in the girls third place game, while Green River took the 4-A girl’s consolation trophy. In the 3-A title games, Jackson beat the Buffalo Girls for the championship, and Star Valley beat Mountain View for the boys 3-A Title. There will not be a repeat champ in the 3-A boys next year, as Star Valley moves up to 4-A next year and Mountain View moves down a Class to 2-A.
