02/28/07 Sports for Wednesday The Big Horn Lady Rams will play Riverside tomorrow in their first round game in Casper. The Lady Rams are coming off a Regional Championship and look like one of the hot teams heading into the State Tournament. The Lady Rams roster is dominated with underclassmen, but Coach Daley says the players are ready to go. They play Riverside tomorrow afternoon. That will be our second game on am 14-10 KWYO. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:30. The Arvada / Clearmont Lady Panthers have been on mission for the last 4 years. This year, senior class made it to the State Tournament when they were freshmen, and the team has improved their placement at the tournament every year. This is the year they are in line to win the whole thing - the Lady Panthers were ranked number one almost every week of the regular season. Coach Bill Joy says the players handled that well, but recognized that they had a much larger goal. They open the tournament in the first game of the day tomorrow at 9 o’clock. That will be our first broadcast on KWYO. The Tongue River Lady Eagles face off with Lovell. Both teams were ranked either first or second in Class 2-A all season long. They will be our final broadcast tomorrow evening. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 o’clock. The Eagles will also face the Lovell Bulldogs, a team they played twice during the regular season. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30. The Sheridan Broncs open the 4-A North Regional Tournament in Riverton against Cody tomorrow. They split regular season games with the Broncs. Coach Mike Ibach says the players know tomorrow is win, or the season is over. The Lady Broncs will open the Regional Tournament Friday in the semi-finals against the winner of tomorrow’s elimination game between Natrona County and Cody. Coach Mark Elliott says they have been able to stay sharp with several tough games the last couple of weeks. The Sheridan College basketball teams open their post season this week at their Region Nine Tournaments. The Lady Generals will play their first game against Little Horn Community College, Sunday. Coach Frank McCarthy says the next few days are important to make sure they are at the top of their game. The Generals open the men’s Region Nine Tournament in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska Saturday afternoon against Eastern Wyoming. Generals coach Joel Davidson says the defending Chamos will be ready for Saturday’s tournament opener. The Wyoming Cowboys will play at TCU tonight to open up this week’s live basketball coverage. The Pokes have two regular season games left to play. The game tonight can be heard live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Broadcast time is 5:30.
02/27/07 Sports for Tuesday The Tongue River Eagles beat Moorcroft 56-42 in last night’s challenge game in the Hoffman Dome. Moorcroft opened up a five point lead to start the 3rd quarter, but it was just a matter of time before the Eagles got rolling. They went on a 14-0 run started by a couple of three pointers from Micheal Tucker that gave them the cushion they needed to pull away. They will open the State Tournament Thursday at 4:30 against the Lovell Bulldogs. The Tongue River Lady Eagles and Lovell both stumbled a bit at in their Regional Tournaments. The Lady Eagles lost in the regional final against Big Horn, and will face Lovell in a huge first round showdown. Tongue River enters the State Tournament as the two-time defending champs. They beat Lovell in both State Title games in 2005 and 2006 The two teams split their regular season match-ups, with each team winning in their home court. Our opening round live coverage from the State Tournament tips off Thursday morning at the Casper Events Center, with the Arvada / Clearmont Lady Panthers playing Hanna-Elk Mountain at 9am. We will then move to Casper College for the Big Horn Lady Rams first round game with Riverside at 1:30, followed by a Tongue River double-header. The Eagles play Lovell at 4:30, the Lady Eagles follow at 6 o’clock against Lovell. All four games will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Class 4-S Regional Tournament opens in Riverton, Thursday. The Sheridan Lady Broncs are the second seed and get a first round bye, and an automatic bid into the State Tournament. It’s just the second time in the last nine seasons the Lady Broncs have been in this position. Coach Mark Elliott says it’s nice to have a little insurance heading into the tournament. They will play in the semi-finals Friday. The Sheridan Broncs will play an elimination game at the North 4-A Regional Tournament in Riverton, Thursday evening at 5:30 against Cody. The Broncs enter the post season losing their last five games, and they went through a spirited practice at Sheridan High School last night. If they beat Cody Thursday, they advance to the semi-finals against Casper Natrona, Friday. The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals open their Region Nine Tournaments, Saturday. The Lady Generals will play their tournament in Casper. The Generals will be in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. The Lady Generals head into the post season after an 18 win season. That first round game against Little Horn College will be Sunday night at 7 o’clock. The Generals open their tournament against Eastern Wyoming, Saturday afternoon. Coach Joel Davidson says the players got the job done during the regular season, finishing 26-3 overall, and now they concentrate on trying to defend their Region Nine Championship from 2006. That first round game Saturday opens the tournament in Scotts Bluff. The Wyoming Cowboys have just two regular season games remaining before they head to Las Vegas for the Mountain West Conference Tournament tomorrow night. The Pokes play at TCU. We will broadcast the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Pokes end their regular season Saturday at home against New Mexico.
02/26/07 Sports for Monday Three Sheridan Bronc seniors placed at the State Wrestling Championships Saturday. Brett Green and Nick Montana found themselves in the wrestle backs Saturday morning and fought their way into the 5th and 6th place matches. Green ended his season with a victory at 125 pounds, finishing his high school career in 5th place. He was thrilled with the way he ended the weekend. Green’s coach Cory Hamrick was pleased to see Green end his senior season with that. 215 ponder Nick Montana won some close matches and lost some close matches. He ended up in 6th place, dropping two straight matches in the final seconds. Montana ends his high school career with and 2nd place finish as a junior and 6th as a senior. The night ended for the Broncs with the much anticipated match at 160 pounds for senior Micha Kadera. Kadera was coming off a second place finish in 2006 in the finals. Saturday night he got into a great battle with Nate Myers from Casper Natrona. The two met three times during the regular season, with Myers winning twice. Kadera held a 1-0 lead going into the third period. Myers tied it up and late scored a take down to go up 3-1. Kadera had two shots left in the finals seconds to send the match into overtime, but couldn’t connect, and ended up taking second place. It was not the way most of us wanted the night to end. The Class 1-A, and 2-A State Basketball Tournament, opens in Casper Thursday. The Big Horn Lady Rams, the Tongue River Lady Eagles and the Arvada/Clearmont Lady Panthers are in. The Tongue River Eagles will play Moorcroft tonight in a challenge game. The winner advances to the State Tournament and will play Lovell in the first round Thursday at 4:30. The A/C girls beat Kaycee in the 1-A East Regional final. They open our live play-by-play coverage Thursday morning at the State Tournament on AM 14-10 KWYO. They open the tournament at 9 AM against the Hanna Miners. The Big Horn Lady Rams beat the Tongue River Lady Eagles in the Northeast Regional Final 53-37. The Lady Rams will have a number one seed, and open the tournament Thursday afternoon at 1:30 against Riverside. The Lady Eagles have the number two seed and will face Lovell Thursday at 6 o’clock. This game is a battle of the last two state title games, which were won by Tongue River. The Lady Eagles, and Bulldogs split their regular season games. All four games will be broadcast live Thursday on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Sheridan Lady Broncs finished their regular season, beating Casper Natrona and Casper Kelly Walsh. And with those wins, they finish the conference season in second place and receive an automatic bid into the 4-A State Tournament. They open the North 4-A Regional Tournament Friday at Riverton, in the semi finals. They face the winner of Thursday’s elimination game between Casper Natrona and Cody. The Broncs dropped both weekend games with the Casper schools, and will play an elimination game Thursday evening at the Regional Tournament against Cody. If they win and advance to the semi finals, they play Casper Natrona. If they lose that game, the season is over. The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals ended their regular seasons Saturday at Casper College. The Lady Generals lost their game. The Generals beat Casper 88-84. Sophomore Dorian Watson led the Generals with 29 points. They finish the season with a 25-4 record. The Region Nine Women’s Tournament opens March 3rd in Casper. The Lady Generals will play Little Horn CC in the first round. The men’s tournament opens March 3rd in Scotts Bluff Nebraska. March 3rd the Generals open with Eastern Wyoming. Sheridan Bronc Swimmers Andy Wolff and Corey Peacock finished 11th as a team at the State Swimming Championships. Wolff placed 5th in the 100 backstroke, and 5th in the consolation round in the 200 freestyle. Peacock finished 6th in the 500 freestyle. This could be the final time the Sheridan Broncs have a team. Both Peacock and Wolff are seniors, and were the only members of this year’s Bronc team. With out a commitment of participation from swimmers next fall, the program will have to be terminated by Sheridan High School.

The NSI Wolves play Moorcroft this evening at Sheridan High School at 6 o’clock. The Big Horn Rams play Wright at 6:30 out at the Hoffman Dome at Sheridan College. The Tongue River Eagles play in the semi’s tomorrow night at 7 o’clock against the winner of the Big Horn / Wright game. If NSI wins, they’ll play Sundance tomorrow afternoon at 3 o’clock. In the girls bracket both Tongue River and Big Horn will play tomorrow in the semi-finals The Lady Rams play Wright in an afternoon game at 1 o’clock. The Lady Eagles will play the winner of Sundance / Moorcroft at 5 pm. The Arvada / Clearmont Lady Panthers open the Class 1-A East Regional Tournament in Torrington tonight against Upton. That game tips off at 7:30. Sheridan Bronc swimmers Corey Peacock and Andy Wolff will open the Class 4-A Swimming and Diving Championships in Gillette today. Coach Larry White says both have put in the time during the regular season and have prepared well for the State Meet And even though they won’t be competing for a high team place, they still have several goals to accomplish. As they get ready to take the pool today, White says the most important thing is to be in a good frame of mind as competition begins. The 4-A prelims begin this morning; the finals will be held tomorrow. The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers will be 13 strong, when the State Championships open tomorrow in Casper. Broncs Coach Corey Hamrick says they’ve had good work-outs this week, and each wrestler is ready to go. Seniors Micha Kadera and Nick Montano made it all the way to their title matches a year ago. Kadera took an especially brutal loss for the State Title, and Hamrick says he is poised to make a run at another championship this weekend. Hamrick says upsets happen in every weight class during the State Tournament.. We will be with the Broncs tomorrow and Saturday, with live State Wrestling Tournament updates from the Casper Events Center on AM 14-10 KWYO. Mat-to-mat coverage begins tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock. Reports run hourly and will run through the last Bronc standing Saturday. The Sheridan High School basketball teams will close out their regular season’s this week. The Wyoming Cowboys beat Utah at home last night. Brandon Ewing went off for the Pokes in their 86-78 win. Ewing scored 26 points in the second half, and ended with a game high, 28. The Pokes are now 15-12 overall, and 6-7 in Mountain West Conference play. They are off until next Wednesday, when they play a road game at TCU.
02/21/07 Sports for Wednesday The Sheridan Broncs played at Casper Kelly Walsh last night, suffering their third straight loss, and 5th out of their last 6. The Broncs led most of the game, only to fall apart in the 4th quarter and gifting Kelly the game 59-55. The Broncs had the game in hand all night, leading by as many as 12 points but couldn’t put the Trojans away. Kelly scored only 22 points in the first half. They went off for 25 in 4th quarter. The Broncs were up eleven with six minutes to play, but the wheels came as they committed 10 turnovers in the final four minutes. Next up for the Broncs is a road game at Casper Natrona Friday. They close out the regular season at home Saturday night with a re-match with Kelly Walsh. The Sheridan Lady Broncs will play their final home game of the season Friday night against Casper Natrona.. We will broadcast that game live on am 14-10 KWYO The first Federal Pre Game Show will open the broadcast. Tipoff is at 7:30. The Lady Broncs close out the regular season with a road game at Casper Kelly Walsh, Saturday. The Sheridan College teams were in action in Powell at Northwest College. The Lady Generals beat Northwest 73-59.. Molly Schenderline led the scoring with 16 points. The Generals picked up their 24th win of the season with a hard-fought 68-62 victory. Alex Chapman and Brian Duckworth led the way with 18 points apiece. Both teams wrap-up the regular season with games at Casper College, Saturday night. The Generals will play at their Region Nine Tournament in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska, while the Lady Generals will play in the women’s Region Nine Tournament in Casper. Both tournaments begin Saturday, March 3rd. The Class 1-A and 2-A Regional Tournaments are set to go off tomorrow in the boys bracket. NSI opens the tournament against Moorcroft in an elimination game at 6 o’clock at Sheridan High School. The Big Horn Rams take on Wright at 6:30 in the Hoffman Dome at Sheridan College. If the Rams win, they advance to play Tongue River in the semi’s,, Friday night at 7 o’clock. If NSI wins, they advance to play Sundance, Friday at 3 o’clock. In the girls bracket, the Tongue River girls finished 1st in league play. The Big Horn Lady Rams finished 2nd. Both teams get byes tomorrow, and play in the semi-finals Friday night. The Lady Eagles take on the winner of tomorrow’s elimination game between Sundance and Moorcroft Friday at 5 o’clock, while the Lady Rams play Wright at 1 o’clock. The Arvada / Clearmont Panthers season came to an end last night in a play in contest against Hulett. The Red Devils eliminated the Panthers last night in a game in Clearmont 56-43. The Lady Panthers are the top seed, and the 1-A East Region. They open the tournament in Torrington tomorrow night at 7:30. They face Upton in the first round. 02/20/07 Sports for Tuesday The Sheridan Broncs were scheduled to play at Casper Kelly Walsh back on February 2nd. That game was cancelled because of poor travel conditions. Tonight both teams meet at KW to make up that contest. With Gillette and Natrona having locked up the top two conference seeds, and with three regular season games left, the bottom four teams still have a chance to move up in the standings. We will broadcast tonight’s game live for you on AM 14-10 KWYO It’s an early start tonight - varsity tip-off will be at 5:45..The Broncs close out the regular season this weekend at Casper Natrona Friday, and at home against Kelly, Saturday. The Generals have already wrapped up the North Sub-Region and Wyoming Conference Titles, but Coach Joel Davidson say the Generals still have plenty of incentive to play well tonight. The men’s Region Nine Tournament will open March 3RD in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska. In their first round game, the Lady Generals’ tournament will be played in Casper. Prelims start Thursday morning. The Sheridan High School indoor track program had 17 athletes compete at the Simplot Games in Pocatello, Idaho. This past weekend, two made it all the way to the finals in their events. The Broncs’ top finisher overall was pole-vaulter Scott Pettit. He finished 9th overall in his event. For the Lady Broncs, Lela Carpenter made the finals in the 1600 meters and finished 27th. Other Lady Broncs placers were Emily Bobinchak and Dana Morin in the 1600 meters, and Stephanie Brown in the 400 meters. In the 60 meters, Sadie Rhinesmith and Stephanie Pettit. For the Broncs, Ryan Sorenson in the 3200 meters; John Rotellini and Seth Ulvastad in the 1600 meters; Bryan Stebbing in the 200 meters; Clancy Phillips, Wes Neuman and Mike Miller in the 400 meters; Ben Rhinesmith and Kyle Grammens in the 60 meters. This week, they all head to a meet in Cheyenne, followed by the State Indoor Championships. The Wyoming Cowboys play at home Wednesday night against Utah. 02/19/07 Sports for Monday The Sheridan Broncs will have seven wrestlers competing in the State Championships this week. Micha Kadera was the only Bronc to come away with the Conference E Tournament Title. He did that Saturday in the 160 pound weight division. He heads into the State Tournament as last year’s runner-up. The other Broncs that will compete this week will be Garrett Nelson, Brett Green, Casey Gariffa, Cody Mcalla, Sam Barney and Rick Montano. The State Tournament opens with first round action Friday morning at 9 o’clock the finals run Saturday night at the Casper Events Center. We will be with the Broncs this week, providing live hourly State Tournament updates all day Friday and Saturday through the finals. All reports will be broadcast on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc Basketball teams lost games to Gillette this past week. This week both teams end the regular season. This week the Broncs play at Casper Kelly Walsh tomorrow night. The Varsity game will tip-off at 5:45 and we will broadcast the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Broncs will play at Natrona County Friday night, and close out the regular season Saturday night at home against Kelly Walsh. The Lady Broncs dropped another close game to Gillette Friday 49-46. Both teams will play next week at the North 4-A Regional Tournament in Riverton. The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams are the host teams for the Northeast 2-A Regional Tournament. It opens Thursday with a couple of play in games at Sheridan High School. The rest of the bracket will be played at the Hoffman Dome at Sheridan College. Both Tongue River teams will open the tournament as the number one seeds. They both close out the regular season conference titles with victories at Sundance. Saturday, the boys won 56-54 and the girls 54-45. The NSI Wolves will open the Tournament Thursday night against Moorcroft the winner moves on into the tournament. The loser’s season will be over. The top two teams in each bracket advance to next week’s State Tournament in Casper. It opens next Thursday March 1st. Ticket prices for the Regional Tournament have been set as well all post season ticket prices are set by the Wyoming High School Activities Association. An all-tournament pass is only $10. Session passes for Thursday’s games will be $3 for adults and $2 for students. Friday and Saturday session tickets will be $5 for adults and $4 for students. The Arvada/ Clearmont Panther’s basketball team will play an elimination game tomorrow night against Hulett. The winner advances to the Regional Tournament. The Lady Panthers will enter the tournament as the favorite to win the title. The top four teams from the Super-V-Regional; in Torrington will advance to next week’s State Tournament in Casper. All first round regional match ups are not set, as several play in games that are being held at various sites around the state tonight and tomorrow. We will be at the State 1-A and 2-A State Tournament next week, providing live play-by-play coverage of our Sheridan County teams. Also, we will have coverage of the Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc games at their Regional Tournament in Riverton next week. The Sheridan College Generals were down 38-37 against Laramie County Saturday night, in their final home game of the season. After a poor first half, the Generals came out with guns blazing in the second half and blitzed Laramie County 96-71. out-scoring their opponents 58-33 in the second half, and running their record to 24-3 on the season. Seven of the General’s nine players scored in double figures in the victory. This week the Generals and Lady Generals will close out the regular season with games tomorrow night at Northwest College, and then at Casper College Saturday, to end the season. The Women’s Regional Nine Tournament for the Lady Generals will be played at Casper College. Starting March 3rd the Generals will play at the Men’s Region Nine Tournament in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska, at Western Nebraska Community College. Also beginning March 3rd, the Generals enter the tournament as the defending champs. Northeastern Colorado is the favorite entering this year’s event. The Wyoming High School boys swimming and diving season ends this week. The Class 4-A State Championships open Thursday morning in Gillette.. Sheridan High School will be represented by seniors Andy Wolff and Corey Peacock.
02/16/07 Sports for Friday UPDATE 10:25AM: Arvada/Clearmont game w/ Hulett is cancelled today. 8:30AM: Big Horn High School Boy’s & Girls basketball Sundance game is cancelled. The Sheridan Broncs hung with Gillette for a quarter last night, but the Camels are so tough to beat on their home court They routed the Broncs 80-57. The Broncs held their own in the first quarter down 20-18, but the Camels went on a big run and outscored the Broncs 24-10 in the second quarter, to take a 44-28 halftime lead. Gillette ended any hope of a Bronc comeback when they scored the first 10 points of the 3rd quarter. They led 73-36 heading into the final period. Coach Mike Ibach says they played with Gillette early, but couldn’t sustain that momentum. The Broncs have three games to play, to tune up for the Regional Tournament. That stretch begins Tuesday night at Casper Kelly Walsh. The Kelly Walsh game has an early start Tuesday. The varsity game is scheduled for 5:45. We will broadcast it live on am 14-10 KWYO. The Lady Broncs host the Gillette girls tonight. The Camels beat Sheridan by two in overtime back on January 25th. It should be a great battle tonight. Lady Broncs coach Mark Elliott says they like the fact they are going to get Gillette on the home court tonight. We will broadcast tonight’s game live for you on AM 14-10 KWYO. The girls will play at 4:30 the boys go at 7:30. Tomorrow both teams play conference games at Sundance. The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams end their regular season tonight with road games at Sundance. Next week the Rams and Lady Rams host the Class 2-A Northeast Regional Tournament at Sheridan College. The Tongue River teams will be the top seeds. The Arvada/Clearmont Panthers and Lady Panthers host games this evening with Hulett. Tomorrow, they’ll play at Midwest. Next week, both teams play at their Regional Tournament in Torrington. The Class 1-A and 2-A State Championship open March 1st in Casper. We will broadcast all the State Tournament action live on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers are in Casper today and tomorrow for the North 4-A Regional Tournament. The high school wrestling season ends next week at the Casper Events Center. 02/15/07 Sports for Thursday The Sheridan College basketball teams played the Little Horn College teams for the third time this season, and the outcome of last night’s games was the same as the previous two meetings, with both the Generals and Lady Generals picking up blow-out victories. The Lady Generals picked up their 17TH win of the season, winning 122-59. It was the Lady Generals final home game of the season. They close it out next week, with road games at Northwest College and Casper College. The women’s Region Nine Tournament will be played in Casper and will start March 3rd. The Generals whipped Little Horn last night, and got started early, hitting their first five shots of the game. They rolled out to a big first half lead, and cruised to the 129-74 victory. The scoring was impressive, with four players scoring over 20 points, led by freshmen Antione Watson with 26; Brian Duckworth and Alex Champman each had 23; James Bullock had 22. In all, six players scored in double figures. Coach Joel Davidson says they expected to win big. and did not have a let down after blowing out the Rams twice earlier this season. Mid way through the second half, Generals Tyler Thomas basically got assaulted on the court. One of the Rams players threw a premeditated forearm at Thomas, connecting with the side of his head, and was ejected from the game. Davidson says he was pleased with the teams reaction to the incident by not escalating the tension on the court. Thomas left the game and did not return. His injury status is not known at this time, but he did appear to be okay following the game. The Generals will play their final home game of the season Saturday night against Laramie County. They’ve beaten them twice this season, and expect a good challenge. That will be a single game Saturday night. Tip-off will be at 7 o’clock, and will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Sheridan Bronc basketball teams will play road games in Gillette this evening. The JV game will start at 5:45. The varsity game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:30. We will broadcast the action live for you on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Broncs will be off this weekend, and will close out the regular season next week. Starting Tuesday, they play a make-up conference game at Casper Kelly Walsh, and then close out the regular season with a home game with KW, and road game at Natrona County. The Lady Broncs will look to avenge a two point overtime loss at the hands of Gillette, when they host the Camels at Sheridan High School tomorrow night. Varsity tip-off will be at 7:30 and can be heard live on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Arvada / Clearmont, Big Horn And Tongue River basketball teams will close out their regular seasons this week. The Rams and Lady Rams play their final games tomorrow night at Sundance. The Eagles and Lady Eagles host games with Upton tomorrow at 4:30 and 7:30, then at Sundance Saturday afternoon. The Arvada/Clearmont Panthers and Lady Panthers host games with Hulett tomorrow, and then at Midwest Saturday. All teams will compete next week at their regional tournaments. The A/C teams will play in Torrington. Big Horn is the host team for this year’s Northeast 2-A Regional. Games will be played at Sheridan College. All qualifiers will meet in Casper March 1st-3rd for the 1-A / 2-A State Tournament. The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers open their post season tomorrow in Casper.. The 4-A North Regional Tournament will be held at Kelly Walsh High School. All qualifiers will compete in the State Championships next week at the Casper Events Center. 02/14/07 Sports for Wednesday The Sheridan Lady Broncs took a brutal loss at Natrona County last night. The Lady Broncs were outstanding on defense, forcing 29 Natrona turnovers, but they shot 27 percent from the field - including several missed lay-ups. That translated into a 53-48 loss. Coach Mark Elliott says they let a road win slip away. The tough part about the loss is they played incredible defense. Now the Lady Broncs host Gillette Friday night. They lost a two-point overtime game in Gillette three weeks ago. That game will tip-off Friday night at 7:30, and will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Broncs entered last night’s game with Natrona with a 9-9 record, but it was Natrona taking the early lead and scoring a 61-44 win over the Broncs. Coach Mike Ibach says when a team falls behind the Mustangs. they make it real tough to come back. The Broncs will be short-handed for the rest of the season. Starting senior point guard Tyler Wells went down with a season-ending knee injury. That’s the second starting guard lost with a knee injury; Firdose Kahn went out back in December .Now, it’s over to Gillette to take on the number-one ranked Camels. The Generals are 23-3 on the season, and head into tonight’s game after a couple of good road victories. Both teams have two wins over Little Horn College. All four games have been blow-outs, so they will be looking not to have a let down tonight. The women’s game tips off at 6 o’clock, the men go at 8 pm. Saturday night, the Generals play their final home game of the season against Laramie County. It’s a single game at 7 o’clock and can be heard live on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Big Horn basketball teams close out the regular season with conference games at Sundance Friday evening. The Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles will play home non-conference games with Upton Friday, and then over to Sundance on Saturday. All four teams play in the Northeast Regional next week in Sheridan. The top two teams from each bracket qualify for the State Tournament starting March 1ST in Casper. Tickets prices have been set by the Wyoming High School Activities Association for next week’s Class 2-A Northeast Regional Basketball Tournament. All tournament passes will cost $10 for adults and $7 for students single. Game tickets will be $3 and $2 on Thursday, and $5 and$ 4 on Friday and Saturday The Arvada/Clearmont Panthers and Lady Panthers play at home Friday against Hulett, and close out the regular season Saturday at Midwest. They play at their Regional Tournament next week in Torrington. The Sheridan Bronc Wrestrlers compete in the 4-A North Regionals this weekend in Casper next week. All qualifiers will advance to the State Championships February 23rd and 24th at the Casper Events Center. 02/13/07 Sports for Tuesday The Sheridan Bronc basketball team will play at home tonight against Casper Natrona. The Lady Broncs will play at Natrona County. Both games are early starts tonight. The boys varsity game at Sheridan High School tonight will tip-off at 5:45. The girls varsity game will tip at 6 o’clock. Not only do they play Natrona County this week. Thursday the Broncs play at Gillette, and the Lady Broncs host the Camels Friday. Lady Bronc senior Carlee Carizosa says they are looking forward to both games, and will give maximum effort. Lady Bronc coach Mark Elliott says they have some unfinished business with Natrona County. They also lost to Gillette by two points in Gillette in overtime, and Friday’s game will be a game you’ll want to attend. We will broadcast tonight’s Lady Bronc game in Casper live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Again tip-off is scheduled for 6 o’clock. The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals host sub-region games with Little Horn College tomorrow night. Games will be played at 6 and 8 pm. The Generals are 23-3. The Lady Generals are 15-8 overall. Both teams have blown out Little Horn twice. The last games were last week. The Lady Generals won 122-68. The Generals won 113-68. I asked Generals coach Joel Davidson about staying motivated, since they rolled Little Horn twice already. Again, games tomorrow night will be at 6 and 8 o’clock. It will be the final regular season. home game for the Lady Generals. The Generals will play their final home game Saturday night against Laramie County. Both teams close out the regular season next week with a sub-region game at Northwest College on Tuesday, and finish up the regular season at Casper College next Saturday. The Sheridan Hawks “Squirts” division team - in just their second year in Wyoming League play - earned the program third State Championship this past weekend. The Hawks High School team won the first two State Titles. The Squirts team is made up of 10-11 year old players. They took the 2007 State Championship in Cheyenne Sunday. They beat Jackson in the finals 3-1, to win the Title. In other local basketball action this week, the Class 1-A and 2-A teams close out the regular season this week.. The Arvada/Clearmont teams host games Friday with Hulett, and play at Midwest Saturday. They’ll play at their regional next week in Torrington. The Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles play home games Friday with Upton, and then close it out with road conference games at Sundance Saturday. The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams will close out the regular season Friday, with road games at Sundance. The Class 2-A Northeast Regional will be played in Sheridan starting next Thursday in the Hoffman Dome at Sheridan College. Sheridan Bronc swimmers Corey Peacock and Andy Wolff are preparing this week for the 4-A State Championships. The State Meet will be held in Gillette and gets underway next week on Thursday. The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers will compete in the North 4-A Conference Tournament at Casper Kelly Walsh High School, Friday and Saturday. The Sheridan High School indoor track teams have the week off except for a few athletes. That will head to Pocatello, Idaho this weekend to compete in the Annual Simplot Games. This is a national meet, with elite athletes from all over the country competing. All participants had to meet national qualifying standards to make the field for the Simplot Games. 02/12/07 Sports for Monday UPDATE 10am: The Sheridan High School 9th Grade Boys Basketball Game has been cancelled. The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers closed out their regular season with a road dual win at Worland Friday. This weekend the Broncs compete in the North 4-A Regional in Casper. Hamrick says they’ll do a lot of individual work in practice to prepare for the tournament. The Sheridan Lady Bronc basketball team swept weekend games from Cody and Riverton. They blew out Cody by 44 points on Friday and beat Riverton by 13 on Saturday Lady Broncs senior Janae Stoffers says it was nice to get both games by. They were disappointed with their defense in the game with Riverton. Tomorrow the Lady Broncs play at Natrona County. Stoffers says after losing to NC back in December, they are looking forward to playing them again. That game will tip-off tomorrow night at 6 o’clock in Casper. The Lady Broncs got some great news over the weekend. It was the return to the line-up of senior Carlee Carizosa - she had missed the last three weeks after suffering a broken nose, and wore a protective mask this past weekend. She says it was great to finally get to play again, even though she had to wear a mask. Coach Mark Elliott says with a couple of other players nursing injuries, it was great to have Carizosa back on the court. The Lady Broncs lost a two point non-conference game at Natrona County back in December during the Oil City Classic Tournament Elliott expects a great game tomorrow night. They beat Cody Friday 59-54, and lost at Riverton 73-60 Saturday. Tomorrow, the Broncs play Natrona County at home. Tomorrow night’s varsity game will start at 5:45. On Thursday, the Broncs will play a conference game at Gillette. We will be with the Broncs and bring you the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30. The Lady Broncs will play Gillette Friday in Sheridan. Varsity tip-off will be Friday at 7:30. That game will also be broadcast live on am 14-10 KWYO. In other weekend action, the Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles swept conference games with Big Horn Friday. The Tongue River teams close out the regular season this week. They host games with Upton Friday, and close it out Saturday at Sundance. The Rams and Lady Rams played Greybull Saturday. The Lady Rams came back after a nine-point loss against Tongue River to beat Greybull 47-37 The Rams lost a close game with Greybull 64-58. This week, the Rams and Lady Rams close out the regular season with road games at Sundance Friday. The Class 2-A Northeast Regional Tournament will be played next weekend in Sheridan. The majority of the games will be played in the Hoffman Dome at Sheridan College. Sheridan High School will also host a couple of the consolation bracket games. This will be the last year for the Northeast Regional Tournament. Next year, the Northeast Conference will join the Southeast Conference for a Super Regional Tournament. This year, the other two 2-A conference will hold a Super Regional, and all the 1-A conferences have also combined for Super Regional Tournaments. The Arvada/Clearmont teams will play at their regional next week in Torrington. The Arvada/Clearmont teams lost both games at Kaycee over the weekend. The Lady Panthers were missing three starters from that game, sitting out for disciplinary reasons. They’ll be back at full strength this week as they close out the regular season with games at home against Hulett Friday, and at Midwest Saturday. 02/07/07 Sports for Thursday The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals played at Little Horn CC last night. Both teams as expected rolled to victory. The Lady Generals blasted Little Horn 122-68. Molly Schenderline led the way with 27 points, Brianne Shipman had 26 and Lindy Neville had 24. The Lady Generals will travel for their next game Saturday at Western Wyoming in Rock Springs. The Generals game had pretty much the same result as they rolled over Little Horn 113-68. Five players scored in double figures, led by the Watson brothers. Antione Watson scored 23, and older brother Dorian scored 21. Alex Chapman had 18, and James Bulluck added 17. The Generals are 20-3 on the season. They play a road game tomorrow at Eastern Wyoming in Torrington, and they join the Lady Generals for games at Western Wyoming, Saturday. The next home dates for the Sheridan College basketball teams will be next week, when they host league games with Little Horn on Wednesday night. Games will be at 6 and 8 o’clock. That will be the final home game of the season for the Lady Generals. The men will play at home next Saturday against Laramie County. Bronc wrestlers have a conference dual at Gillette tonight. The Camels have been the powerhouse in Wyoming all season. Broncs coach Corey Hamrick says the Broncs are in for a tough struggle tonight. Hamrick says the Broncs need to go into this dual with a “nothing to lose mentality”. Tomorrow, the Broncs close out the regular season with a road dual at Worland; then it’s onto the 4-A North Regional next week in Casper. Sheridan Bronc swimmers Andy Wolff and Corey Peacock open their post season tomorrow in Cody at the North 4-A Conference Meet. Both have qualified already in multiple events for the State Meet. Head coach Larry White says Wolff is on the verge of qualifying in a couple more events. Both Wolff and Peacock have really performed well for Sheridan High School this season, and now the preparation begins for the State Championships. The State Meet will be held in Gillette, and gets underway February 22nd. The Big Horn and Tongue River basketball teams meet in conference action tomorrow night. The JV games will be played at Big Horn High School tomorrow afternoon at 3 o’clock, and in order for all four varsity teams to get a chance to play on the Regional Tournament court, both varsity games will be played tomorrow night in the Hoffman Dome at Sheridan College at 6 and 7:30. The Big Horn teams will host games Saturday with Greybull, while the Eagles and Lady Eagles have Saturday off. The Class 1-A and 2-A regular season ends next week. The Northeast 2-A Regional Tournament opens at the Hoffman Dome Thursday, February 22nd. The Sheridan Broncs play road games at Cody and Riverton tomorrow and Saturday. The Lady Broncs will host games with Cody and Riverton. Games tomorrow night start at 7:30. The Broncs play Saturday at 2:30. The girls will play at 3:30. The Sheridan Hawks hockey team will play two home games Saturday. It will be your final chance to see them play this season. 02/07/07 Sports for Wednesday In high school basketball action, the Big Horn Rams made up their game with Kaycee last night. The game was called off this past Saturday because of poor travel conditions. The Buckaroos beat the Rams last night 71-59. Friday, the Rams will join the Lady Rams hosting games with Tongue River. Saturday, the varsity games will be played at the Hoffman Dome Friday night at 6 and 7:30. Those games are the only games for Tongue River this week. the Big Horn teams will host games with Greybull Saturday. The Sheridan College basketball teams head up to Little Horn Community College tonight for north sub-region games. The Lady Generals are 3-2 in league play. The Generals are 5-0. Both teams beat Little Horn easily in non-league games already this season. Following tonight’s action, the Generals play at Eastern Wyoming Friday, and join the Lady Generals for games at Western Wyoming Saturday. The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc basketball teams play Cody and Riverton, Friday and Saturday. The Lady Broncs are 15-2 overall, and 3-1 in conference play. They whipped both Cody and Riverton on the road three weeks ago, and it looks like that won’t change when they host both teams this week. Next week is the big week for the Lady Broncs, as they take on the two teams ranked above them in the 4-A standings: Natrona County and Gillette. The Cody game is Friday night, with tip-off at 7:30. Saturday’s game with Riverton will start at 3:30. The Broncs will play at Cody and Riverton this week. This starts quite a stretch for the Broncs as they mix in two games with the Casper schools. They mssed last weekend, with games already scheduled. The Broncs beat Riverton the first time around in conference play, and lost against Cody. Coach Mike Ibach says they need to win both games this week to get back into the conference seeding chase. The latest boys high school basketball rankings have been released. Only one Sheridan County team appears with the elite in the State this week - the Tongue River Eagles are ranked 3rd in Class 2-A, behind number-one Lyman and number-two Lovell. Sheridan Bronc swimmers Corey Peacock and Andy Wolff will compete at the North Conference 4-A Regional Swimming Championships in Cody this weekend. Both have already qualified in multiple events for the State meet. The regional will be a good tune-up for the State Championships, which get underway in Gillette, February 22nd. The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers have a conference dual at Gillette tomorrow, and close out the regular season with a dual at Worland, Friday. They will be in Casper next week for the 4-A North Regional Tournament in Casper. The Wyoming Cowboys couldn’t get it done at home last night against BYN. The Pokes got Brandon Ewing and Brad Jones back last night, after they served one-game suspensions for their fight during the New Mexico game last week. The Pokes held the lead until the second half, when the Cougars got rolling and took the game 77-73. James Spencer led the Pokes with 23 points; Jones chipped in with 21. The Cowboys play their next game Saturday night at UNLV. The Black Mountain Nordic will host a chili feed Saturday afternoon at the warming hut at the Sibley Cross Country Ski Trails.
02/06/07 Sports for Tuesday The Sheridan Broncs and Lady Broncs will make up their conference games with Casper Natrona next Tuesday. The Broncs will make up their game with Kelly Walsh on Tuesday the 20th. The Broncs will have almost two weeks in between games. The Broncs play at Cody Friday and Riverton Saturday and they’re ready to go. The Sheridan games that were missed with Casper Natrona will be made up next Tuesday the 13th. The Broncs will play in Sheridan; JV’s at 4 pm and the varsity at 5:45. The Lady Broncs will host Cody and Riverton at 7:30 Friday night, and 3:30 Saturday afternoon. At least they got the KW game in Friday night. Coach Mark Elliott says it was a let-down not to be able to play Natrona County Saturday. They host Cody and Riverton this week They blew both teams out on the road three weeks ago, and Elliott says they need to do the same this time around. The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams played their make-up games with Moorcroft last night. The Lady Rams sweep the season series with the Wolves by blowing them out 83-36. The Rams dropped the boys game last night 84-54. The Rams will play at Kaycee this evening at 6 o’clock. In other action this week, the Big Horn teams will host games with Tongue River, Friday. The JV games will be played at Big Horn High School. The varsity games will be played at the Hoffman Dome at Sheridan College, at 6 and 7:30. It will give all four teams a chance to play on the court that will host the Northeast Regional Tournament, February 22nd, 23rd and 24th. 02/05/07 Sports for Monday The Sheridan Lady Broncs basketball team beat Kelly Walsh 62-42, but their game at Natrona County was called off Saturday. The Broncs missed both weekend games with the Casper schools. Those are conference games, and will be made up this week. The Broncs and Lady Broncs will play Riverton and Cody. The Tongue River teams swept conference games with Sundance, Friday. Saturday’s games with Rocky Mtn. were cancelled. The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams missed their games with Moorcroft and Kaycee. They will make the Moorcroft games up tonight They play in Moorcroft. Both varsity games will be played at 6 o’clock. The Kaycee games won’t be made up. The Sheridan College basketball teams got their games in both nights. They crushed Dawson, Friday. The Lady Generals won 107-68, while the Generals dispatched the Bucs 102-67. Saturday was a special evening for both teams and all those in attendance, as former Lady General Lindsey Hiemkes made her first trip to the Hoffman Dome since last year’s auto accident left her paralyzed. The college hosted a fund-raising night. The turn-out was great. The Lady Generals lost against a pretty good Miles City team 85-73. Coach Frank McCarthy says it was great to have Lindsey back in the Dome with her teammates. They play at Little Horn Community College at Crow Agency, Wednesday night. The Generals had a tough time, but made a great run with three minuets to play, and beat Miles City 73-57. The Generals were down by four at halftime. They were able to take the lead back, and held a three point lead with three to play. In a span of 32 seconds, they scored 8 points to push the lead to 11, and went onto to win the game going away. Freshmen Antione Watson saved the Generals from a loss; he scored a career high 25 points, and continually killed Miles City inside, including three tip in buckets in the second half. At half time of the men’s game, the school hosted the evening’s activities for Lindsey Hiemkes.. A quilt was raffled off. The winner was Jo Aksmit. After receiving the quilt, she gave it to Lindsey. The most touching moment came when the college made Lindsey the first recipient of the Lindsey Hiemkes Courage Award. The award will be given out every year to an inspirational student during Homecoming activities, along with a $250 cash award. The Generals join the Lady Generals for sub-region games at Little Horn College, Wednesday night. The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers competed at the Riverton Invitational. The Broncs Micha Kadera won the 152 pound division, and was also named the outstanding wrestler of the tournament. Kadera won the Sam Award at the Rapid City Invitational back in December. Kadera has had a great senior season after last year’s controversy at the State Tournament, where he got jobbed in the title match. Coach Corey Hamrick says we could all learn a lot from how Kadera handled that situation. Nick Montano was the other Broncs placer, and three JV wrestlers also had a good weekend. This week the Broncs close out the regular season. The Sheridan High School indoor track teams made it to Spearfish, South Dakota for their meet Friday. For the Lady Broncs, Dana Morin placed 8th in the 800 meters, Lela Carpenter was 2nd in the 1600 meters and 6th in the 3200 meters. Erica Roman placed 8th in the 3200 meters, Marrissa Dahmke was 8th in the 55 meters, Kayla Fauber was 3rd in the pole vault, Kearstin Brown was 4th, and Aubrey Wegner was 7th in the high jump.. For the Broncs, Clancy Phillips was 7th in the 200 meters, Ryan Sorenson was 6th in the 3200 meters, Josh Sandoval and Ben Rhinesmith went 4th and 6th in the pole vault ,and Bryan Stebbing was 3rd in the high jump. Both teams are off this week. The next competition will be at the Simplot Games starting February 15th in Pocatello Idaho. The Wyoming Cowboys were missing four starters in their game at Air Force, Saturday. The Academy destroyed the undermanned Pokes 88-43, the most lopsided loss in Mountain West conference history. 02/02/07 Sports for Friday The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc basketball teams play Kelly Walsh tonight. The Broncs will play at KW, the girls will play at home. The Broncs are coming off a loss to Gillette, and have lost two-straight. Coach Mike Ibach says they need to play a good game to regain their confidence. This is a big game for both teams, as the bottom three teams in the conference battle for seeding for the Regional Tournament, and the Broncs feel they can be successful against the Trojans tonight. We will broadcast the game live tonight on AM 14-10 KWYO. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30. The Lady Broncs are 2-1 in conference play, and picking up two wins this weekend would put them right back at the top of the conference. The tougher of the two games will be tomorrow night at Natrona County, but coach Mark Elliott says Kelly Walsh has been playing well the last couple of weeks. The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals host games tonight with Dawson Community College. Games are set for 6 and 8 pm tomorrow night. They host games with Miles City. The school will be hosting a fundraising evening tomorrow for Lindsey Hiemkes, the Lady Generals player that was paralyzed in an auto accident last spring. Lady Generals coach Frank McCarthy says it will be an emotional weekend, and the players must use that to their benefit. The Generals beat Dawson and Miles City on the road two weeks ago, and two more wins this weekend would almost wrap up the North Sub-Region Title. The Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles both lead the Northeast Conference as they head into games tonight against Sundance. The girls varsity game will start at 4:30, the boys will go at 7:30 tomorrow. The Eagles will play at home against Rocky Mtn; the girls play Rocky over in the Big Horn Basin at Byron. Varsity games tomorrow will be at 4 o’clock. The Arvada/ Clearmont Panthers and Lady Panthers will play home games tonight and tomorrow. They host games today beginning at 4 o’clock with Midwest. Tomorrow they host games with Meeteetsee.. The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers open their final big event of the regular season today, as the Ron Thon Memorial Invitational begins in Riverton. Broncs coach Corey Hamrick says this tournament has the best competition for Wyoming High School wrestlers. The Broncs close out the regular season next week with a dual at Gillette.. The Sheridan Bronc swimmers Corey Peacock and Andy Wolff will host a meet this afternoon with Riverton. Tomorrow they head over to Gillette for a big 4-A Invitational meet. The Sheridan Hawks High School hockey team has Wyoming Leagues games this weekend in Gillette. The Hawks will play Laramie and Gillette tomorrow, and close out the weekend Sunday against Jackson.. The Hawks will host non-league games with Cody next Saturday. They will play two games on the 10th. The starting Wyoming Cowboys backcourt Brandon Ewing and Brad Jones have been suspended for two games for their part in a brawl that took place Tuesday night, late in their game with New Mexico. One player from New Mexico was also suspended. College players get an automatic game suspension for being ejected from any contest. Both schools also imposed one-game suspensions, meaning the two Pokes will miss tomorrow’s game at Air Force. all three players will miss the New Mexico game when it is played in Laramie.
02/01/07 Sports for Thursday The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals host sub-region games Friday and Saturday night against Dawson CC and Miles City. The Lady Generals split with these teams on the road a couple weeks ago, and coach Frank Mcarthy says these are games they need, to stay in the North sub-region chase. The Generals took two close games from the Bucs and Pioneers on their road trip, and stand at 3-0 in sub-regional play. Two wins this weekend puts the Generals in the post season, as a number seed for the Region Nine Tournament. Games tomorrow are at 6 and 8 o’clock. While you’re at the game, make sure you buy raffle tickets for Saturday night’s drawing for Lindsey Hiemkes. The Generals and Lady Generals are hosting the former SC player and her family, and will host the fundraiser Saturday night. The Sheridan College student senate will begin the evening serving dinner. They will be selling burritos and tacos as their part of the fundraiser. The quilt raffle drawing will be held during halftime of the men’s game, and the college is donating the entire gate of Saturday’s game to Lindsey and her family. the big horn rams and lady rams travel for conference action tomorrow at moorcroft then they’ll play non-conference games at kaycee saturday lady rams coach mike daley says both games present the lady rams with a good challenge (cart)(45c)…………………….with their win over sundance last saturday the lady rams re-enter the class 2-a power poll at number five this week. The Rams have been on a roller-coaster ride all season. Coach Josh Hatch says their game tomorrow at Moorcroft will be another big test. The Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles play conference games at Sundance tomorrow. Eagles coach Larry Moser says the outcome of tomorrow’s game may decide the regular season conference title. Both teams play Rocky Mountain. Saturday, the Eagles are at home and the girls on the road. The Lady Eagles jumped in the rankings this week. They have been installed as the new number-one team in Class 2-A. The Sheridan Lady Broncs play at home against Casper Kelly Walsh tomorrow night. They’ll play at Natrona County, Saturday. The Lady Broncs are ranked 4th this week, while Natrona is number one. That’s the big showdown of the weekend, but the Lady Broncs are not looking past KW. Coach Mark Elliott says the Lady Trojans are a much better team than they’ve seen the last couple of years The Broncs will play at Kelly Walsh tomorrow night, and at home Saturday against Casper Natrona. NC is ranked number one in Class 4-A, and Kelly Walsh is battling the Broncs right now for conference seeding. Coach Mike Ibach says they are confident heading into the game. The Elks hoop shoot district event was held in Worland last Saturday, and two Sheridan County youth have advanced to the state competition by placing first at the district event. In the 8-9 year old girls division, the winner was Mckensie Dougherty, and in the boys 12-13 year old division, Chris Cremer also finished 1st. Second place finishers included Gretchen Dougherty in the girls 10-11 year old division, and Trey Kaufman in the boys 10-11 year old division. Trey Schrofel finished 4th in the boys 8-9 year olds, and Christina Welty was 3rd in the girls 12-13 year old division. Suspensions could be passed down today for the starting Wyoming Cowboy back court. Both Brandon Ewing and Brad Jones were ejected from the Tuesday game at New Mexico for their parts in a brawl that broke out near the end of their 8 point loss to the Lobos. One New Mexico player was also ejected after the confrontation. NCAA rules says when a player is ejected from a game, they must serve a one-game suspension, but the Mountain West Conference could also tack on more suspension time. That ruling will come out today. The Pokes will be in big trouble without Ewing and Jones Saturday, when they play at the Air Force Academy.
