01/31/07 Sports for Wednesday

It was quite a dual at Sheridan High School last night, as the Broncs hosted the Buffalo Bison. All matches were won by pin with the Broncs dominating, taking the dual by a score of 60-18. Senior Micha Kadera got the evening started with the first fall at 152. Coach Corey Hamrick was happy for the Broncs picking up that first dual win of the season. This weekend, the Broncs will get their toughest test of the year at the Riverton Invitational. The Broncs close out the regular season with a dual at Gillette next Thursday. The North 4-A Regionals will be in Casper February 15th and 16th, at Kelly Walsh High School. The State Championships are at the Casper Events Center, February 23rd and 24th.

The Wyoming Cowboys lost at New Mexico last night 91-83. The game was marred by a fight late in the second half. The Wyoming Guard tandem of Brandon Ewing and Brad Jones were among the players ejected after the fight. The Pokes play at the Air Force Academy Saturday afternoon.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc indoor track teams just completed their best meet of the season. And the best part of that meet in Nebraska - they got five more athletes qualified for the Simplot Games. The Simplot Games take place next month in Pocatello, Idaho, Friday, the Broncs and Lady Broncs participate in an indoor meet in Spearfish, South Dakota at Black Hills State University.

The Sheridan Lady Broncs are coming off a loss at Gillette last week and stand at 2-1 in conference play, which makes their games with Kelly Walsh and Natrona County huge. This week, the big match-up is expected to come at Natrona Saturday night, but head coach Mark Elliott says they cannot look past the Kelly Walsh game Friday. That game will be played at Sheridan High School, Friday at 7:30. Then, Saturday they head to Casper for that showdown with the Fillies. That game will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Broncs are trying to shake off the effects of last week’s debacle against Gillette, when they committed 37 turnovers in the 13 point loss. Coach Mike Ibach says they must move on and get ready for the Kelly Walsh game. That game will be in Casper Friday night. We will have it live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Tip-off is at 7:30. Saturday, they host Casper Natrona.

In other action this week, the Arvada/Clearmont Panthers and Lady Panthers have home games with Midwest Friday, and Meeteetse Saturday.

The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams play at Moorcroft Friday, and play Kaycee Saturday.

The Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles play conference games on the road Friday at Sundance. Saturday, the Lady Eagles play at Rocky Mtn., while the Eagles host the Grizzlies. Those games tip-off at 4 o’clock.

The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals host sub-region games this week. They host Dawson Community College Friday night at 6 and 8 o’clock, and then Home Coming Night Saturday. The school and teams are also hosting a fundraising event for former Lady Generals player Lindsey Hiemkes. The Sheridan College student senate will start the evening at 5:30, selling burritos and tacos at the Dome. They will be raffling off a handmade quilt for the fundraiser. Tickets are sale now, and can also be purchased at the game Friday, and before the games Saturday. The school is also donating the entire gate to the cause as well.

In a scheduling change, the Sheridan Lady Bronc freshmen basketball team will play games in Casper tomorrow. The schedule will have the “a” team playing first at 4 o’clock, the “b” team will follow with their game at 5:30.

 

01/30/07 Sports for Tuesday

The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers host a dual against Buffalo tonight. It will be their final home appearance of the season this weekend. They’ll compete at the annual Riverton Invitational and close out the regular season next Thursday with a dual in Gillette. Broncs. Coach Corey Hamrick says the push for the post season begins tonight. Matches begin tonight at 6 o’clock.

The Sheridan College basketball teams have home games this weekend. Saturday night the college and the basketball teams will be having a fundraising event for former Lady General player Lindsey Hiemkes. Lindsey was paralyzed in an auto accident last spring, and she along with her family will be back at the college for the first time since the accident. The public is asked to attend Saturday night’s game and take part to make it a big event.

The team had Lindsey with them on the sidelines for games back in November in Twin Falls Idaho near her home town, and McCarthy says it was an emotional time for the team then, and it will be Saturday. Then, throw in the fact that the players and coaches have to concentrate on playing two big sub-region games as well. They will have a raffle drawing as well that will take place at half time in the men’s game Saturday. A quilt has been made special for the event. They used t-shirts from several different colleges to make the quilt. Tickets for the raffle are on sale now. Raffle tickets can also be purchased before the drawing Saturday night.

The Generals split road games last weekend. They lost 97-76 at Northeastern Colorado Friday, but they came back with a nice win in Cheyenne Saturday. Joel Davidson is not only the Generals coach but also the ad at Sheridan College He says the college and all fans have a great opportunity to help out Lindsey Hiemkes and her family Saturday.

In other college basketball, the Wyoming Cowboys will play in the pit at New Mexico. Tonight we will broadcast the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Pre-Game Show will start at 6:30, the tip will be at 7 o’clock.

The Sheridan High School indoor track teams competed at a meet in Chadron, Nebraska over the weekend, and several athletes had good performances for the Lady Broncs: Kayla Fauber placed in both the pole vault and triple jump, Lela Carpenter placed in both the 1600 and 3000 meters, Stephanie Brown placed in the 800 meters, Emily Bobinchak and Dana Morin also placed in the 1600 meters. For the Broncs: Scott Pettit and Ben Rhinesmith went 2nd and 5th respectively in the pole vault, Brian Stebbing was wnd in the triple jump, Mitch Hoy placed in the shot put, and Ryan Sorenson was 3rd in the 3000 meters. Five of the distance runners also qualified for the Simplot Games in Pocatello, Idaho. That event will be next month. Athletes from all over the United States will compete in that meet.. This week, the Broncs and Lady Broncs will compete at a meet in Spearfish at Black Hills State University.

In other events this week, the Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc basketball teams play the Casper schools this week. The Broncs will play at Kelly Walsh Friday, while the girls play KW at home Saturday. The Lady Broncs play at Natrona County, while the Broncs host NC all four games. Tip off at 7:30. We will broadcast the boys game at Kelly Friday, and the Lady Bronc game at Natrona Saturday.

The Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles play road games at Sundance Friday. The Eagles will play at home Saturday against Rocky Mtn. The Lady Eagles will play at Rocky Mtn.

The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams have conference games at Moorcroft Friday, and then games against Kaycee Saturday.

The Bronc swimmers Corey Peacock and Andy Wolff will host a dual against Riverton Friday. Saturday, they’ll compete at an invitational in Gillette. That will be their final meet of the regular season. The North 4-A Regional is next week in Cody.

 

01/29/07 Sports for Monday

The Tongue River Basketball teams both racked up big wins over the weekend. They took conference games at Wright Friday, and won big again at home Saturday against Greybull. Friday, the Eagles play at Sundance and it could settle the conference regular season title. Both teams will play at Sundance Friday. Saturday the boys are at home with Rocky Mtn., while the girls play at Rocky.

The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams took on Sundance in conference action Saturday. The Lady Rams went out to a 19-3 lead, and never were threatened the rest of the way as they blew out the Bulldogs. Coach Mike Daley says the fast start made the difference. The Lady Rams played great team defense. The guard line really made it tough on the Sundance guards. The Rams fell behind in the second half of their game and could just not catch up with Sundance. Coach Josh Hatch says they let Sundance get away early in the 3rd.

This week, the Rams and Lady Rams will play conference games at Moorcroft Friday. The Lady Rams will play at Kaycee Saturday, while the Rams host Kaycee. The Rams and Lady Rams will host games with Tongue River on February 9th.. The JV games will be played at Big Horn High School, and the varsity games will be played at the Hoffman Dome in Sheridan College.

The Sheridan Lady Broncs need to shake off that tough two point overtime loss at Gillette last Thursday, but it was such a great game, we wanted to highlight it a little more. The Lady Broncs gave a maximum effort in the game but just came up two points short. This week the Lady Broncs play at home Friday against Casper Kelly Walsh, and at Natrona County Saturday. Coach Mark Elliott says at 2-1 in conference play these games become very important. The Broncs will play at Kelly Walsh Friday and home against Natrona Saturday.

The Sheridan Bronc Wrestlers dropped two conference duals Saturday against Cody and Riverton. Coach Corey Hamrick says the Broncs keep moving forward during a rough season. The Broncs will host a dual with Buffalo tomorrow, then to the Riverton Invitational this weekend before closing out the regular season at Gillette on February 8th. Hamrick says there aren’t many more opportunities’ for preparing for the regional tournament. Tomorrow’s dual with Buffalo will get underway at 6 o‘clock.

The Sheridan College Basketball teams return to action at home this weekend after dropping road games at Northeastern Colorado. They host sub-region games with Dawson Friday night, and Miles City Saturday. Saturday is a special day at the college: former Lady General Lindsey Hiemkes and her family will be at the Dome for the first time since an auto accident last spring left Lindsey paralyzed. The college is asking for a sell out Saturday. The gate and proceeds from a special raffle will all go to Lindsey and her family, so make sure you make the games Saturday night.

 

01/26/07 Sports for Friday

The Sheridan Lady Broncs gave Gillette all they wanted last night, as the two battled into overtime in the Razor City. In the end though, Gillette hit a big shot, forced overtime, and went on to win the game 56-54. The Lady Broncs have beaten Gillette only once in the last nine years, and last night was one of their best efforts in their last several meetings. Head coach Mark Elliott was proud of the players; they were so close, but couldn’t finish Gillette off. Both teams played great defense. Every Lady Bronc player gave maximum effort last night and out-played Gillette all night, but just couldn’t finish the Camels off in the final minute of regulation. The Lady Broncs are off the rest of the weekend, and will play the Casper schools next week.

The Broncs will take on Gillette tonight at Sheridan High School.The Broncs are 7-7 overall, and 1-1 in conference play. The Camels are 2-0 in league play, and 14-1 overall. Coach Mike Ibach says the Broncs must be able to control their emotions early in the game, and they must control the pace of play tonight, to have a chance against the Camels The game will tip-off tonight at 7:30, and we will have it live for you on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Big Horn Lady Rams played Kaycee last night, and won a close one 46-44. Tonight they play at Riverside, and then home against Sundance tomorrow. Coach Mike Daley says they got a nice win last night, and have two more to get through this weekend. The Rams make the trip over to Riverside tonight, and then Sundance tomorrow. At Riverside tonight, the varsity games have been moved up to start at 4:30 and 6 o’clock. At home tomorrow, games against Sundance start at 1 o’clock.

The Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles play at Wright this evening. The Lady Eagles are on a roll, leading the conference race and ranked second in Class 2-A. Coach Diane Moser says they’ve got a challenging stretch of conference games coming up, starting tonight in Wright. Coach Larry Moser says they have a great rivalry with Wright Tomorrow, they host Greybull. Boys go at 2:30, the girls at 5:30.

The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals step out of league play tonight for games in Sterling, Colorado. Coach Frank McCarthy says after going 2-1 in the opening week of sub-region play, they don’t get a chance to rest up, as they face one of the top teams in Region Nine. The Generals have been living on the edge in their last six games; they’ve won them all, but haven’t played their best. Coach Joel Davidson says the players better get ready for an eye-opener tonight at Northeastern Colorado. The Generals will play tomorrow night at Laramie County in Cheyenne.

The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers have more conference action tomorrow, as they wrestle two duals over in Gillette. The Broncs’ final home dual will take place Tuesday night, when the Buffalo matches start at 6 o’clock.

The Sheridan High School indoor track teams get back into action tomorrow after a week off. They travel for a meet tomorrow in Chadron, Nebraska, and the Sheridan Bronc swimmers compete in a double-dual with the Casper schools today at Natrona County High School.

Tomorrow, the Wyoming Cowboys play TCU. You can hear the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Pre Game at 12:30, the tip is set for 1 o’clock.

 

01/25/06 Sports for Thursday

The Sheridan Lady Broncs sport a 12-1 record as they head into action tonight in Gillette. Coach Mark Elliott says it’s their first big test of the season, and there will be great emotion in this game. The Lady Camels have been the team to beat in Class 4-A girls basketball for many seasons, but the Lady Broncs have a great shot at an upset on the road. And what the Lady Broncs must accomplish tonight, is to come away with a victory. We will have tonight’s game live for you on AM 14-10 KWYO. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30.

The Broncs will take their shot at Gillette tomorrow at home. We will broadcast that game as well on KWYO. Tip-off is set for 7:30.

In college basketball last night, the Wyoming Cowboys beat Colorado State in Laramie 75-70 Sophomore guard Brad Jones led the way with 25 points The Cowboys are 12-8 overall and 3-3 in league play Next up is tcu Saturday. That game will be broadcast live on KWYO. Tip-off is at 1 o’clock.

This evening the Bronc wrestlers will hold senior night activities when they host a conference dual with Casper Kelly Walsh. It should be a good dual for spectators  Coach Corey Hamrick says it will also be nice to honor their seniors. Action begins tonight at Sheridan High School at 6:45. The Broncs will be over in Gillette, Saturday for conference duals with Cody and Riverton.

The Sheridan Bronc swimmers Corey Peacock and Andy Wolff will compete in a double-dual meet with the Casper schools tomorrow at Natrona County. Both have already qualified for the State Championships and Wolff is close in a couple of other events Coach Larry White says now they are looking ahead to the post season. They host a dual with Riverton next Friday, and go to Gillette to close out the season next Saturday. The North Regionals will be in Cody February 9th and 10th, with the State Championships set two weeks after the Regional. 

In other local action this week, the Big Horn Lady Rams start a three-game three-day stretch tonight at home against Kaycee. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 o’clock tomorrow. The Lady Rams and the Rams travel for games at Riverside, and come back home for games with Sundance, Saturday.

The Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles play at Wright tomorrow, then home against Greybull, Saturday.

The Arvada/Clearmont Panthers and Lady Panthers host conference games with Kaycee tomorrow, then travel over to Upton for games Saturday.

The latest girls high school basketball rankings are out: the A/C girls remain number-one in Class 1-A. The Tongue River Lady Eagles are 2nd in the 2-A rankings, and the Sheridan Lady Broncs are ranked second in 4-A as they head into their game with Gillette tonight. The Lady Camels enter the game ranked 4th.

 

01/24/07 Sports for Wednesday

The Lady Generals routed Northwest College last night 62-45. They really looked good building up a big first half lead - they led by as many as 23 points in the second half. Coach Frank McCarthy was a little surprised that they won by such a wide margin. That 15 point score differential will come into play should there be a tie for the North Sub-Region Title.

The Generals pulled off a last second victory against the Trappers, Northwest took the lead late For the Generals looked like it wasn’t going to be their night but in the closing seconds sophomore Dorian Watson saved the day with the Generals trailing by one point. That put the Generals up and a couple of free-throws for good measure. They escaped with a 71-67 win. Coach Joel Davidson was not real pleased with the effort. Both teams play road games at Northeastern Colorado, Friday. The Generals will play at Laramie County in Cheyenne, Saturday.

The Big Horn basketball teams will play five games this week. The girls will play three starting tomorrow night against Kaycee. The big game of the three will be Saturday’s home conference game with Sundance. Tomorrow night’s varsity game will start at 6 o’clock.

The Rams will join the Lady Rams Friday for games at Riverside, then home Saturday against Sundance. The Rams have been up and down all season, but coach Josh Hatch says the players continue to put in the hard work to get better. They’ll get a good test in both games.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc basketball team will take a 12-1 record into action tomorrow night in Gillette. We will broadcast the game on AM 14-10 KWYO. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30.  Friday night, the Broncs host the Camels. We will broadcast that game live, as well. Tip-off will be at 7:30.

 The first round of the Wyoming / CSU Basketball Border War takes place tonight in Laramie.Y can hear the game live on KWYO. Tip-off is set for 7 o’clock.

The Sheridan Bronc swimmers will compete in Casper, Friday. Corey Peacock and Andy Wolff are the only boys out for swimming this season, and coach Larry White says both Peacock and Wolff are still working hard to make the most of their senior season. Both guys are qualified or close to qualifying in multiple events for the State Meet, and they competed tough all season.

Next week is the final week of the regular season. The North Regional Meet will be held in Cody in two weeks, with the State Championships set for February 22nd and 23rd in Gillette.

The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers will host Senior Night tomorrow night, when they host a conference dual with Casper Kelly Walsh. JV matches will start at 6:45. The Broncs host their final home match next week against Buffalo.

 

01/23/07 Sports for Tuesday

The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals host games with Northwest College tonight. The Lady Generals are 1-1 in sub-region play. Northwest is 2-0. Coach Frank McCarthy says every game is important, with a month to go in the regular season. They’ve beaten Northwest once this season, but they are in for a battle tonight. The women’s game starts the evening’s action tonight at 6 o’clock.

The Generals are 15-2 overall, and 2-0 in north sub-region play. As of today, they are tied with the NWC for the sub-region lead. Tonight’s winner takes a big step at wrapping up the north title, and a number-one seed in the regional tournament, It will be a battle of two opposites: the Generals want to get out on run, while the Trappers prefer to slow it down. We will broadcast tonight’s game live for you on AM 14-10 KWYO Tip-off is scheduled for 8 o’clock.

The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers host a dual with Casper Kelly Walsh, Thursday night. It will be their final home match of the season. JV matches will start the night off at 6:45. Saturday, the Broncs will be in Gillette for more conference dual action, as the Broncs and Camels will dual Cody and Riverton. Next week, the Broncs will have a dual in Cody and compete at the annual Riverton Invitational, and close out the regular season with their Gillette dual on the road February 8th. The North Regionals will be at Kelly Walsh High School on the 16th and 17th, and all qualifiers meet at the State Tournament in Casper, February 23rd and 24th.

Big Horn High School activities director Christy Wright has announced a time change for the girls basketball game with Kaycee Thursday night. Due to some injuries with Kaycee, the JV teams will only play a half. That will start at 5:30, with the varsity game scheduled for 6 o’clock. The Lady Rams will join the Rams for games at Riverside Friday, and then back home for games with Sundance, Saturday.

In other basketball action this week, the Wyoming Cowboys play CSU tomorrow night. You can hear the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 o’clock.

It’s Gillette week for the Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc basketball teams The girls will play in Gillette, Thursday night. The Lady Broncs are 12-1 heading into the game. We will broadcast the action live for on AM 14-10 KWYO. Tip-off is set for 7:30. The boys game will be played at Sheridan High School, Friday night at 7:30. We will also broadcast that game live on KWYO.

Sheridan High School will be busy Thursday night. The Broncs wrestle Kelly Walsh, and activities director Tom Racette says there will be Lady Bronc freshmen basketball in the big gym, as well. Those are make-up games for weather cancellations earlier this month. The Broncs freshmen will play Thursday in Casper.

The Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles have conference road games at Wright, Friday and home games Saturday afternoon against Greybull. The boys game will be played at 2:30. and the girls at 5:30.

The Bronc swimmers will compete in Casper against Natrona and Kelly Walsh. The meet is Friday at Natrona County High School.

Again, join us tonight for live college basketball when the Generals and Lady Generals host games with Northwest College. The women’s game tips off at 6 o’clock, and we will have the men’s game live on AM 14-10 KWYO at 8 o’clock.

 

01/22/07 Sports for Monday

The Sheridan Broncs split their conference games over the weekend. They blew out Riverton Friday night and looked sluggish and un-inspired in a loss against Cody Saturday. Coach Mike Ibach says Saturday’s performance was a big let down. The team can’t dwell on the Cody loss They host a really good Gillette team Friday.

As expected, The Lady Broncs picked up two road wins at Riverton and Cody, winning both games big. Coach Mark Elliott says the players earned them both. The Lady Broncs play at Gillette Thursday night. Elliott says most teams get intimidated when they play in Gillette, and the Lady Broncs must overcome that and become the aggressor. We will broadcast that game live Thursday night, and we will have the boys game live Friday night. Both games can be heard live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Tongue River basketball teams won all their games over the weekend. The Lady Eagles beat Arvada/Clearmont in overtime Friday. They blew out Moorcroft on the road Saturday.

The Eagles handled both NSI and Moorcroft, winning both games by wide margins. And now at 10-2 overall, Coach Larry Moser is happy with the teams progress. This week they play at Wright Friday, and come home for games with Greybull Saturday. The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams played conference games at Wright Friday, for their only action of the week. The Lady Rams beat the Lady Panthers, while the Rams dropped their conference game with the Panthers. The Lady Rams play three games this week. They host Kaycee Thursday, then they travel with the Rams for games at Riverside Friday, and both teams play home games with Sundance Saturday.

The Lady Generals split their road games in Glendive and Miles City, Montana. Coach Frank McCarthy says overall they had a pretty good week.

The Generals beat both Miles City and Glendive. Both games were tight. Coach Joel Davidson says it was good to get out of Montana with two wins.

Tomorrow night both teams host games at the Hoffman Dome against Northwest College. We will broadcast the Generals game live at 8 o’clock on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers finished 10th at the Thermopolis Invitational over the weekend. Two Broncs placed: Micha Kadera at 160 and Cody Mcalla at 171. Several of the young Bronc wrestlers also competed well in the JV tournament. The Broncs host a dual with Casper Kelly Walsh Thursday night, and will be in Gillette Saturday for conference duals with Riverton and Cody.

The Wyoming Cowboys play Wednesday. As we have a great week of live basketball action on AM 14-10 KWYO, we will start tomorrow with Sheridan College against Northwest College at 8 o’clock. Wednesday. The Cowboys play Colorado State at 7 o’clock Thursday. The Sheridan Lady Broncs play at Gillette at 7:30 Friday. The Broncs host Gillette at 7:30 and Saturday. The Cowboys play TCU. 01/19/07 Sports for Friday

The Arvada / Clearmont basketball teams played the NSI teams last night. The Wolves beat the Panthers 65-61. The girls game, as expected, was not much of a contest as the number-one ranked Lady Panthers routed the Lady Wolves 79-7. Today, the Lady Panthers host a game with Tongue River.

The Sheridan Broncs are 6-6 as they open conference play at Sheridan High School tonight. The Broncs face Riverton for the second time this season. The Wolverines beat the Broncs 61-60 in the Oil City Classic Tournament back in December, and the Broncs would like to avenge that defeat. Broncs coach Mike Ibach says with the conference season starting, it’s time to turn up the intensity. Tip-off tonight will be at 7:30.. The Broncs will host another conference game tomorrow afternoon with Cody at 3:30. Both games will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Lady Broncs will open conference play tonight in Riverton. Tomorrow, they play at Cody. The Lady Broncs are 11-1 overall, and are riding an eight-game winning streak. For some reason the Lady Broncs haven’t always had their best games in Riverton’s gym, and Coach Mark Elliott says they can’t take anything for granted tonight. They play tomorrow afternoon at Cody..

The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams play road games tonight in Wright. The Lady Rams beat the Lady Panthers at home in their first meeting this season, but coach Mike Daley says they expect another tough battle tonight.

 The Tongue River Lady Eagles play at a/c Clearmont this evening and they’ll play a conference game tomorrow at Moorcroft.

The Eagles host NSI tonight, and play at Moorcroft tomorrow with the girls.

The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers open a tournament in Thermopolis today. Coach Corey Hamrick likes this week’s tournament format.

The Sheridan College basketball teams open North sub-region play tonight at Dawson Community College in Glendive, Montana. Tomorrow, they’ll play in Miles City. Generals coach Joel Davidson says they face two completely different teams. Both teams return to action at home Tuesday night against Northwest College. Game times will be at 6 and 8 pm.

01/18/07 Sports for Thursday

The Tongue River Lady Eagles will play at Arvada / Clearmont tomorrow. It’ll be a battle of the number-one ranked 2-A girls and the top 1-A  girls team in the state. Lady Eagles coach Diane Maser says it should be a great game.

The Tongue River Lady Eagles have two conference games: one at home tomorrow against NSI, and on the road at Moorcroft .Coach Larry Moser talks about the state of the Eagles mid way through the season.

The Sheridan College basketball teams play two north sub-region games on the road at Glendive and Miles City, Montana this weekend. Lady Generals coach Frank McCarthy says they are on a roll after beating Casper, Tuesday. Generals head coach Joel Davidson says they have to be ready for just about anything on this trip. Both teams play at home next Tuesday night against Northwest College from Powell.

The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams will play one game this week tomorrow night at Wright. Lady Rams head coach Mike Daley says the team is right on track. Over the last two seasons, the young Lady Rams have done a good job of staying focused on becoming a Class 2-A contender

The Sheridan Broncs and Lady Broncs open conference e play tomorrow night. The Lady Broncs will play at Riverton, then over to Cody Saturday. The Lady Broncs are 11-1. Riverton and Cody don’t have that many victories together, so the Lady Broncs have a great opportunity to go out and get two good conference wins away from home. The Broncs host Riverton tomorrow night at 7:30, and Cody Saturday at 3:30. Both games will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers will stay in-state for a big tournament this weekend. The Broncs have been at two large invitationals in Montana, and one in South Dakota. Coach Corey Hamrick is looking forward to getting the Broncs some more matches at the Thermopolis Invitational.

The Sheridan High School indoor track teams have this weekend off from competition. Coach Art Bauers says the athletes put up times last week in Laramie, and now have a base to start improving. Next week, the Broncs and Lady Broncs travel for their next meet to Chadron, Nebraska.

 

01/17/07 Sports for Wednesday

The Sheridan College Lady Generals built up a nice cushion in the second half, only to see Casper chip away at the lead. At one point, the T-Birds took the lead, but the Lady Generals hit some big shots, and ended Casper’s 11 game winning streak by beating the T-Birds 76-70. Back in December, the Lady Generals blew a second-half lead and lost to Casper by two, but they were able to hang on last night. Point guard Lindy Neville says it was good to get the win, as they get ready for a difficult three game stretch. Coach Frank McCarthy says the win was big, as they build momentum to the weekend when they open sub-region play on the road. The Lady Generals play in Glendive and Miles City, Montana this weekend, and return home for another sub-region game next Tuesday against Northwest College.

The first half of the men’s game was close most of the way, until Generals sophomore guard Brian Duckworth went off in the last 2 minutes of the half. Duckworth scored eight straight points as the Generals went on a 17-0 run to take a 12 point lead into the half. In the second half, Casper couldn’t catch up, and the Generals cruised to the 83-72 win. Coach Joel Davidson says they’ll take the win, on a night where they weren’t really clicking. Davidson gave credit for Duckworth’s play for giving the team a lift at the right time. Duckworth led the Generals with 22 points. The Generals join the Lady Generals for sub-region play in Montana this weekend, then at home Tuesday against Northwest.

The Wyoming Cowboys played at BYU last night. The Cougars broke open a close game in the second half with a 17-0 run, and beat the Cowboys 89-81. The Pokes are off until a road game at Utah -  who beat the Air Force Academy last night That game will be in Salt Lake, Saturday afternoon.

The Tongue River Lady Eagles are 7-2. Heading into action this week after a couple of stumbles, the Lady Eagles are playing pretty good basketball right now. The Lady Eagles have won the last two Class 2-A State Titles. Head coach Diane Moser says this year’s addition of the Lady Eagles is starting to find their identity. They play at A/C Friday and at Moorcroft Saturday.

The Eagles are 7-2 overall, their only losses coming at the hands of Lovell. Coach Larry Moser says most of the time the Eagles play pretty good. but they lack consistency. The Eagles host a league game with NSI Friday, and play at Moorcroft Saturday.

The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers have another tournament to compete in this week. They are coming off a 16th place finish last week in Miles City. This weekend, they’ll compete in an invitational in Thermopolis. Coach Corey Hamrick says they are making progress.

The Sheridan Bronc swimmers will compete in the Buffalo Invitational Friday, and the Sheridan Hawks High School hockey team has a weekend of league games in Rock Springs, Saturday and Sunday. They’ll play games against Jackson and Casper Saturday, and close out the weekend Sunday against Laramie.

 

01/16/07 Sports for Tuesday

The Sheridan College basketball teams host games against Casper College tonight. Lady Generals coach Frank Mcarthy says after missing Friday night’s game with NJC because of the weather, the Lady Generals are ready to play Casper College. They’ve played Casper once and lost in a close game. The women’s game leads off tonight at 6 o’clock.

The Generals are back on the winning track, taking victories over Western Wyoming and Eastern Wyoming last week. Coach Joel Davidson says they picked up a couple of wins and sit at 13-2, but this team has a long way to go. What are those areas of improvement? Casper College beat the Generals at their pre-season conference tournament back in December. The players would like another shot at the T-Birds.

This weekend, both teams open North sub-region play with games at Miles City and Dawson CC in Montana. Former Lady General Lindsey Hiemkes will be returning to Sheridan next month for the first time since a car accident left her paralyzed. That was last July. Hiemkes would have been playing her sophomore season for the Lady Generals. Coach Frank Mcarthy says they are planning a fundraiser during their home game on February 3rd, when Lindsey and her family are in town, when the Lady Generals and Generals play Miles City. Raffle tickets are currently on sale and will be available at tonight’s games, in addition to the raffle drawing. Their entire gate for the games with Miles City on February 3rd will be donated to Lindsey, so make sure you can attend on the 3rd so we can sell the Dome out for Lindsey Hiemkes.

The Wyoming Cowboys are 11-6 overall and 2-1 in Mountain West Conference play. They lost against the Air Force Academy, Saturday. Tonight they travel for a game at BYU. You can hear the game live tonight on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Pre-Game Show will open the broadcast at 5:30, with the tip at 6 o’clock.

The Tongue River Eagles will host a game with NSI Friday, and play at Moorcroft Saturday. The Lady Eagles will play at Arvada / Clearmont, then join the Eagles for games in Moorcroft, Saturday.

The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams have only one game this week. That will be Friday on the road at Wright.

The Sheridan Lady Broncs take their 11-1 record into conference action on the road this week. They play at Riverton Friday, and Cody Saturday. The Broncs will host Riverton at Sheridan High School Friday night at 7:30, and Cody Saturday afternoon at 3:30. Both games will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

In local hockey action, the Sheridan Hawks had a week off, and head back out on the road this weekend for more league games onSaturday and Sunday in Rock Springs. The Hawks are 3-14 overall and 1-8 in league play.

The Sheridan Bronc swimmers will compete at an invitational in Buffalo Friday, and the Sheridan Bronc wrestlers will attend a tournament in Thermopolis.

 

01/15/07 Sports for Monday

The Sheridan Broncs found the competition tough over the weekend at a tournament up in Miles City, Montana Only two Broncs placed in the event. Garrett Nelson placed 4th and Micha Kadera placed 5th overall. This week the Broncs head for another tournament. They’ll compete at an invitational in Thermopolis.

The Sheridan High School indoor track teams opened their season in Laramie Friday. Coach Art Bauers says it was good for the athletes to finally get some live action, and now they’ll take a break for a few days. The big meet of the indoor season is the Simplot Games in Pocatello, Idaho, February 15th through 17th. It’s a national competition. All athletes that compete must qualify for the event.

In basketball action over the week, the Sheridan Broncs sit a 6-6 as they head in the start of North Conference play. The Broncs lost at Billings West last Friday, and will play at home this week against Riverton and Cody, Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Broncs are 11-1 after beating Buffalo and Billings West over the weekend. The Lady Broncs had a big third quarter against West and pulled away for the win 44-25. Coach Mark Elliott says the defense was great, but they struggled on the offensive end Elliott says it was nice to get a couple more wins before conference play opens this weekend. The Lady Broncs open North Conference play at Riverton and Cody, Friday and Saturday.

Next week, it’s the first round of games with Gillette.. The Lady Broncs will play at Gillette next Thursday the 25th. The Broncs will host Gillette, Friday the 26th.

The Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles swept games over the weekend. Both teams are 8-1 after wins over Big Horn and Riverside. This week the Eagles host NSI Friday, and play at Moorcroft Saturday. The Lady Eagles will play at Arvada / Clearmont Friday, and join the Eagles for a game at Moorcroft Saturday.

The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams lost games at Tongue River, Friday. Both teams came back for victories Saturday. The Rams beat A/C 64-54, while the Lady Rams gave the A/C girls their first loss of the season 58-57. This week, the Rams and Lady Rams play road games at Wright, Friday.

The Arvada / Clearmont Lady Panthers winning streak ended at ten in a row with Saturday’s 1 point loss at Big Horn. The A/C boys lost by 10 to the Rams this week. The Panthers and Lady Panthers host games with NSI Thursday, then the Lady Panthers host the Tongue River Lady Eagles, Friday.

The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals host games tomorrow night at the Hoffman Dome against the Casper College T-Birds and Lady T-Birds. Games are scheduled for 6 and 8 pm.

The Wyoming Cowboys play on the road tomorrow. They play at BTU. The game will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Tip-off is set for 6 o’clock.

Updated 10am - Sheridan High School Lady Broncs are playing the Buffalo Bison tonight (Friday the 12th) in Buffalo. Game times: 4pm Freshman; 5:30 JV; 7pm Varsity.

The winter storm forced cancellation of last night’s Sheridan Lady Bronc / Buffalo basketball game. The Lady Broncs now look ahead to tomorrow night’s home game with Billings West. Varsity tip-off is scheduled for 7:30. The Lady Broncs are 9-1 heading into tomorrow night’s game. Coach Mark Elliott says the Lady Broncs are really starting to play good basketball.

The Sheridan College basketball games scheduled for tonight at the Hoffman Dome have been cancelled. The Generals And Lady Generals were to host Northeastern Colorado tonight, but the latest blast of snow and cold temperatures means NJC won’t be making the trip. The Generals game with Eastern Wyoming is still on for tomorrow night. It’s a single game set for 7 o’clock.

The Sheridan Broncs are scheduled to play in Billings tonight at West High School. Broncs Coach Mike Ibach says they are looking forward to getting another tough road game. Next week, the season starts for real, with the Broncs opening up conference play at home against Riverton and Cody. We will have tonight’s game live for you at 7:30 on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Big Horn and Tongue River basketball teams play against one another this evening in Dayton. The girls varsity game is scheduled to start at 4:30 with the boys going at 7:30.

Tomorrow, the Rams and Lady Rams host games with the Arvada/Clearmont Panthers and Lady Panthers. Action gets underway at 1 o’clock.

The Tongue River Lady Eagles host Riverside tomorrow at 4 o’clock, while the Eagles play at Riverside.

The Arvada / Clearmont teams have conference games at Hulett tonight, and then head to Big Horn for games with the Rams tomorrow.

The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers will be competing at the Cowboy Invitational Tournament this weekend, Coach Corey Hamrick says the nice thing this week is all the Broncs get to make the trip And with the start of the tournament today, the season really start to pick up steam. Next week the Broncs will open their conference dual season hosting matches with Casper Kelly Walsh.

The Sheridan High School indoor track teams are scheduled to open their season later today at the first meet of the season in Laramie. Coach Art Bauers says they’ll finally get a chance to find out how much they’ve progressed over the last coule of weeks.

The Wyoming Cowboys will play at home tomorrow afternoon The Pokes are 2-0 in conference play and 11-5 overall. Tomorrow they play for the league lead against the Air Frorce Academy. The Sheridan Junior High is scheduled to host a boys basketball invitational tournament. Games are set to begin at 8 am and run through the afternoon. They will use three gyms. There will be eight “A” teams playing a bracket tournament, and eight “B” teams playing. Teams from Sheridan, Casper, Gillette and Colstrip Montana will compete.

 

01/11/07 Sports for Thursday

The Sheridan High School indoor track teams will head for their first meet of the season tomorrow in Laramie. Head coach Art Bauers says the athletes are ready to see what they can do. Since tomorrow opens the indoor season Bauers says they expect to be part of a huge meet.

The Bronc wrestlers took an extra week off after the holidays, to get ready to open 2007 at a tournament in Miles City, Montana. The Annual Cowboy Invitational starts Friday. This year, the tournament will feature a JV tournament as well, so all the Broncs will make the trip. Coach Corey Hamrick says the wrestlers are more than ready to see some competition. The Broncs have rescheduled two home duals; they host Casper Kelly Walsh, Tuesday the 23rd, and Buffalo the following Tuesday on the 30th.

Weather permitting school travel, there will be basketball tonight for the Sheridan Lady Broncs The Lady Broncs are scheduled to play in Buffalo this evening  They are 9-1 and have moved up in the Class 4-A rankings this week to number three, tied with Cheyenne Central. Following tonight’s game, the Lady Broncs host Billings West, Saturday night. Coach Mark Elliott says they need to play well in both games to get that momentum going when they open conference play on the road next week. And Elliott says, as always, they expect a good challenge with the Lady Bison. We will broadcast tonight’s game live for you on am 14-10 KWYO. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30. The Wyoming Cowboys will be looking to go 2-0 in Mountain West Conference play tonight, when they play at home against UNLV. A week ago, the Pokes opened up the conference season with a last second win at San Diego State. You can hear tonight’s game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Tip-off is set for 7:30. Then, Saturday afternoon, the Pokes take on Nationally-ranked Air Force at 2 o’clock.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc basketball team will play at Buffalo tomorrow night They are 9-1 overall, coming off two wins against the Cheyenne schools last week. The Buffalo game will be played at the new Buffalo High School gym. They’ll play at home Saturday night against Billings West. Coach Mark Elliott says it’s a chance to get a couple of good games in before they open conference play next week  We will broadcast the game live tomorrow night on AM 14-10 KWYO. Varsity tip-off is set for 7:30.

The Sheridan Broncs are .500. They stand at 6-6 after splitting road games in Cheyenne last week The Broncs close out their non-conference schedule Friday night at Billings West. Coach Mike Ibach says playing a team the caliber of the Bears will only make them better. We will have the game live Friday night at 7:30 on KWYO.

The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers have had quite a break.  They’ve been off since the week before Christmas and should be well-rested for a tournament this weekend in Miles City, Montana. Coach Cory Hamrick says the extra time off did the team a lot of good. Also a scheduling note: the Broncs home dual with Buffalo scheduled for the 23rd has been moved to the 30th.

In basketball action Friday, the Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles host the Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams in conference action in Dayton. The girls varsity game starts at 4:30. The boys varsity game will tip at 7:30.

The Sheridan Junior High is hosting a one-day boys basketball tournament Saturday. Eight teams will compete in the “A” division and eight in the “B” division. Games begin at 8 o’clock Saturday morning and run through the day. They will be using all three gyms at the junior high for the event.

 

01/09/07 Sports for Tuesday

 In basketball action last night, the Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals hosted games with Western Wyoming. The Lady Generals dropped a close one, while the Generals improved to 11-2. Lady Generals coach Frank Mcarthy says they took a loss but played well. Friday night they host games with Northeastern Colorado. Mcarthy says NIC is always pretty good, and this year is no exception. Games Friday night will be at 6 and 8 o’clock. The Generals will also play at home Saturday against Eastern Wyoming. That game will be played at 7 o’clock.

The Sheridan Bronc swimming and diving program is in serious trouble. Only two boys are competing this season. Andy Wolff and Corey Peacock are both seniors. Coach Larry White says to their credit both guys are working harder than ever. Wolff and Peacock will compete this week at a Tri-Angular meet at Cheyenne East, Friday, and compete in the Cheyenne Invitational, Saturday.

We continue today to hear from Sheridan County’s latest Hall of Fame athlete. It was announced Sunday that Stender will be inducted into the Wyoming Sports Hall of Fame, in ceremonies that will take place this summer. Stender becomes the second Sheridan resident named to the Hall in the last two years. Last summer Sheridan Golfer Jim Benepe was enshrined in the Class of 2006. Stender was an All-American at Sheridan High School and at the University of Utah. She says it’s overwhelming, and at the same time she is very proud to be among of group of elite Wyoming sports figures.

01/08/07 Sports for Monday

In 2006, Sheridan resident and professional golfer Jim Benepe was inducted into the Wyoming Sports Hall of Fame This summer, another Sheridan High School graduate will be honored by the Hall. Former Lady Bronc basketball player Mila Rodgers Stender got the call that she would be in the Class of 2007. Stender won virtually every individual award a player could in high school. She graduated in 1982, was a two-time All-State selection, and first team All-American. She went onto All-America status in college at the University of Utah, helping the Utes to three conference titles, two NCAA tournament appearances, and one nit bid. She also led the Utes in scoring and field goal percentage in her junior and senior seasons. She says she fells honored to be in such an elite group of Wyoming sports figures. For the last 19 years Stender has coached basketball at the Jr. high, high school, and college level. She says women’s basketball has undergone some big changes since her playing days in high school and college.

Wyoming Hall of Fame induction ceremonies for the class of 2007 will be held in June. Other inductees this year include Cheyenne native Joe Dowler; and Worland couple Jim and Margie Fassler, who started the Girls Track Meet of Champions back in the mid-70’s. Cheyenne trap shooter Phil Kiner will also be inducted this summer. He has attained All-America status 25 times. Back in 1962 Frtiz Shumer came to Wyoming as a Cowboy football assistant coach, and went through the ranks and won a Super Bowl as the defensive coordinator with the Green Bay Packers in 1997. Other award winners this year will include the Wyoming Athlete of the Year The award this year goes to Greybull native Brett Keisel, current member of the Pittsburgh Steelers; and the Hall’s Life Time Acheivemnet Award this year goes to Jim Core of Greybull, for representing Amatuer Golf in the Cowboy State.

In local basketball action, the Sheridan Lady Broncs are now 9-1 after sweeping their weekend games with the Cheyenne schools. Coach Mark Elliott says they had a pretty good weekend. They showed a little rust coming out of the holiday break, but really got the job done in gym during the holidays. The Lady Broncs play at Buffalo, Thursday night, and they’ll host a game with Billings West, Saturday night.

The Broncs split their games in Cheyenne. They dropped a 72-60 decision at Cheyenne East and held off Cheyenne Central 51-50. Saturday, the Broncs battled Central right to the final buzzer. Coach Mike Ibach is  proud of the players for their effort Saturday. The Broncs play at Billings West Friday night.

The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams had a great weekend, sweeping games from Riverside, Friday. The Lady Rams beat Wright, Saturday 51-44. The Rams beat Wright 61-56.

The Tongue River Eagles beat Moorcroft, Friday and lost 72-51 at Lovell, Saturday. The Lady Eagles swept their games, routing Moorcroft and avenging a season opening loss to Lovell by winning at home 60-52. Courtney Johnson had 26 points in the victory.

Tonight, the Sheridan College basketball teams open up the second half of their season by hosting games with Western Wyoming at the Hoffman Dome. The women’s game will lead off tonight at 5:30 The men’s game is scheduled for 7:30.

 

01/05/07 Sports for Friday

The Arvada / Clearmont basketball teams hosted games with the Sheridan sophomore teams yesterday. The girls game was closer than most thought it would be. The 8-0 Lady Panthers won, but the Sheridan sophomores played tough The final score was 52-31. A/C coach Bill Joy says it wasn’t exactly the type of performance they had in mind. It was a good wake up call for tonight’s conference opener with Upton. Lady Panthers senior Randa Claybaugh is the team leader. She says they didn’t have the game they wanted, but they’ll take the win. Since Claybaugh’s freshmen season, the Lady Panthers have gotten a little closer to a State Title each season. She says this is the year they want to be on top in March. The boys game was won by the Panthers 53-45. Today the Panthers and Lady Panthers have conference games at home against Upton. Games start this afternoon at 4 o’clock.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc basketball teams take on Cheyenne East tonight and Cheyenne Central tomorrow. The Lady Broncs play at home. The boys will be in Cheyenne. Lady Broncs head coach Mark Elliott says they’ll get a great test this weekend Tonight’s game will start at 7:30. The Broncs play at Cheyenne East. Coach Mike Ibach says the Broncs are looking forward to the challenge of playing the defending State Champs. We will broadcast the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 tomorrow. The Lady Broncs play Cheyenne Central at 1:30. The Broncs play at Central at 1:30. That game will also be broadcast live on KWYO.

The Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles are hosting games in Dayton this evening with Moorcroft. The girls varsity game is scheduled for 4:30, with the boys going at 7:30..The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams will host games this evening with Riverside. All the action gets underway at 4 o’clock tomorrow. The Tongue River boys play at Lovell and a great match-up in Dayton tomorrow. The Lady Eagles host Lovell. They’ve beaten the Lady Bulldogs for the last two State Championships. Lovell beat the Lady Eagles in close game in Lovell in the season-opener. It should be a great game tomorrow. In high school hockey action this weekend the Sheridan Hawks will play three games in Casper. They open tonight against Gillette. Tomorrow, they play Casper, and Sunday they face Rock Springs.

The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers have the weekend off. They were scheduled to host a dual with Casper Kelly Walsh last night, but the dual was pushed back to later this month. Next week the Broncs will compete at the Annual Cowboy Invitational Tournament in Miles City Montana.

The Wyoming Basketball Cowboys are 1-0 in Mountain West Conference play after Wednesday night’s road upset win over San Diego State. They are 10-5 overall. They are off until Wednesday, when they host conference rival UNLV.

 

01/04/07 Sports for Thursday

The Arvada / Clearmont Lady Panthers are 7-0 and open the New Year as the State’s Number One ranked Class 1-A basketball team. They join the Panthers in hosting games this evening with the Sheridan sophomores. Coach Bill Joy says great pressure defense has gotten them to 7-0. One of the strongest points for the Lady Panthers is how well they share the ball. And that type of team concept will get where they want to be in March. The girls game will start this afternoon at 4:30, with the boys scheduled to go at six. Both a/c teams will play at home Conference games tomorrow, with games against Upton.

The Wyoming Cowboys opened up Mountain West Conference play at San Diego State last night with a stunner. The Pokes went out on the road and beat the League’s top ranked team, San Diego State. The Pokes were down by four, with under a minute to play. Brandon Ewing pulled the Pokes within 2 points. Following a missed Aztec free-throw, James Spencer saved the day, hitting a three pointer with: 05 seconds to play, to give the Cowboys the win. The Pokes are off until next Wednesday, when they host a Conference game with UNLV.

With the resignation of Tim Leroy as the Sheridan High School football coach last month, the search began for a new head man. Sheridan High School activities director Tom Racette expects it to be busy for the next couple of months. His main priority is getting a Bronc soccer coach onboard as soon as possible. The first soccer practice is scheduled for March 5th, with the season opening March 22nd.

In basketball action tomorrow, the Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles host games with Moorcroft. The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams will spend the weekend at home. They host Riverside tomorrow, and Wright Saturday.

The Sheridan Lady Broncs will play a home game tomorrow against Cheyenne East. Varsity tip will be at 7:30. They host Cheyenne Central, Saturday afternoon at 1:30.

The Broncs travel tomorrow for a game at Cheyenne East. We will broadcast the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Tip off is 7:30 Saturday. The Broncs play at Cheyenne Central at 1:30, also live on KWYO.

The Sheridan College basketball teams will wait until Monday to begin the second half of their seasons. The Generals and Lady Generals will host the Western Wyoming Spartans. Game times will be at 5:30 and 7:30.

 

01/03/07 Sports for Wednesday

The Sheridan Hawks will be looking for their first victories of the hockey season this week when they play three League games in Casper. They play Gillette Friday night, Casper Saturday morning, and Rock Springs Sunday morning. The Hawks have had great success as a program since they started three years ago. They are the two-time defending Wyoming State Champs, but victories have been hard to come by this season. Head coach Bob Viren says the team has the ability to play good hockey, but the players are having a hard time adjusting to losing a few games.

The Sheridan High School indoor track and field teams opened up spring practice yesterday. Over the last two seasons, the winter weather in Sheridan has been so mild that they have been able to practice outside, but they start 2007 indoors and with 50 plus athletes needing practice space. Coach Art Bauers says they just make due with what the school building itself has to offer.

The University of Wyoming Cowboys open up Mountain West Conference play tonight on the road at San Diego State. The Aztecs beat the Cowboys in their last meeting last March in the MWC Conference Tournament Championship game, ending the Pokes’ season. The teams meet tonight in San Diego with the Aztecs. The pre-season pick to win the league-  we’ll find out tonight. You can hear tonight’s game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Broadcast time is at 7:30, the tip at 8 o’clock.

The Broncs haven’t had much luck against East, lately. Coach Mike Ibach says they are looking to turn that around. And Broncs player Josh Dunkelberger says they are looking forward to getting another shot at Cheyenne East. The game tips off Friday night at 7:30, and we will have it live on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Broncs play at Cheyenne Central Saturday afternoon at 1:30. That game can be heard live as well on KWYO.

The Sheridan Lady Broncs are 7-1 and ranked 4th in Class 4-A, as they head into action this week with two home games Friday night against Cheyenne East at 7:30, and Saturday afternoon against Central. Coach Mark Elliott says the players put themselves into good position the first half of the season with only one loss. And Elliott says they get two really good games to open the New Year.

In other local action this week, the Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles host games with Moorcroft, Friday. The girls will play at 4:30, and the boys at 7:30. The Lady Eagles host a good Non-Conference grudge match with Lovell, Saturday at 4 o’clock. The Lady Eagles beat Lovell twice for the Class 2-A State Championship the last two years. The Lady Bulldogs beat the Lady Eagles in Lovell to open the season December 2nd. The Eagles will play at Lovell,Saturday.

The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams will spend the weekend at home with games against Riverside, Friday and Wright, Saturday.

In high school swimming, the Sheridan Broncs are scheduled to host a dual with Worland tomorrow, and then at Gillette, Friday.

 

01/02/07 Sports for Tuesday

The Sheridan High School indoor track program gets 2007 rolling today with practice this morning at the high school. Coach Art Bauers says participation is expected to be high again this season. The first indoor meet is next Friday in Laramie.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc basketball teams face the Cheyenne schools this week. The Lady Broncs are ranked 4th in Class 4-A as the New Year begins. They are 7-1. They’ll host Cheyenne East Friday night and Cheyenne Central Saturday afternoon. Lady Bronc senior Kelsey Boedecker says they are looking forward to getting back into action this week. Friday night, the Varsity game with Cheyenne East will start at 7:30, Saturday’s game with Cheyenne Central will start at 1:30.

The Broncs have a winning record at 5-4 overall, and have won four of their last five games. They’ll play at East, Friday night at 7:30, and at Central at 1:30 Saturday afternoon. Both games will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO. In Friday night’s game, the Broncs will face the defending State Champs. Last year East rolled the Broncs three times; the last time was at the State Tournament. Senior guard Tyler Wells says the Broncs are determined to give East a better battle Friday night.  Again, Friday night’s game will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30.

The Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles open at home Friday against Moorcroft. Varsity games will be at 4:30 for the girls and 7:30 for the boys. Both teams open 2007 with identical 4-1 records.

The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams have home games with riverside Friday and again at home with Wright Saturday the Rams are 3-6 overall while the Lady Rams sport a record of  5-4.

The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals open up 2007 with four-straight home dates starting a week from tonight against Western Wyoming. Next Monday’s game times have been changed to 5:30 and 7:30 pm.

The Denver Broncos season ended Sunday with a stunning home loss against San Francisco. Then, early News Year’s morning Bronco corner back Darrent Willimas was killed in a drive by shooting in downtown Denver. Two other people with Williams were wounded. Broncos wide receiver Javan Walker was in the vehicle with Williams but was not injured.
