10/31/06 Tuesday

The Sheridan College basketball teams open the 2006-07 season Thursday. The Generals will play at a three-day tournament in Twin Falls, Idaho while the Lady Generals host a three-day event at the Hoffman Dome. The Generals return this season as the defending Region Nine Champs. One of the leaders returning for his second year is James Bullock. He says he and his teammates are excited to get the season started, and the new talent is starting to gel pretty well with the returning players. The Generals will face three good opponents this week, including Central Arizona, and the host - College of Southern Idaho. Remembering last year’s tough start, coach Joel Davidson says they want to find out where they match up with the good teams right away. Your first chance to see the Generals play at home will be during the annual Sheridan Lions Club Thanksgiving Tournament, November 24th and 25th.

The Lady Generals will open at home Thursday as they host a tournament with Western Wyoming, Western Nebraska, Dawson Community College, and two native teams from Montana. Making the trip to Sheridan will be the Salish Kootenai team, which is located near Browning, Montana; and the newest member of Region Nine and North Sub Member, Little Big Horn Community College at Crow Agency. Lady Generals coach Frank McCarthy says having the tournament at home is a plus for the players and the fans. Three games will be played each day, starting at 4 o’clock Thursday, and Friday the Lady Generals will play the late games at 8 pm. Saturday’s schedule begins at noon with the Lady Generals playing at 4 o’clock.

The Tongue River Eagles will play Lyman Friday afternoon in a Class 3-A semi-final game in Dayton. Kickoff is set for 1 o’clock and will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Lyman beat Kemmerer 16-14 last week, while the Eagles ripped Greybull 46-0. Eagles coach Chuck Walters says the opponents just get tougher as the playoffs move along.

The other 3-A semi final has Glenrock playing at Big Piney.

The Buffalo Bison shut out Worland in their opening round Class 4-A playoff game last week. Friday the Bison host a semi-final game with Powell at 6 o’clock.

In other football action this week, the Wyoming Cowboys will host San Diego State, Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 1 o’clock and will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

Sunday afternoon, the Denver Broncos play at Pittsburgh. Broadcast time on KWYO will be at 1 o’clock.

TONGUE RIVER WINS BIG IN FIRST ROUND OF PLAYOFFS - First round of the playoffs for high school football is in the books and Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter clues us in on how things went for the Tongue River Eagles over the weekend: Audio.

The State Swimming and Diving Championships finished up over the weekend in Gillette. The Lady Broncs finished 7th in the 4-A meet. The Lady Broncs also had two All-State award winners. Congratulations today to Rachel Holst - she earned All-State honors in the 100 yard free-style. She also placed 4th in the 50 free. Hattie Oatts also earned All-State honors. The Lady Bronc sophomore placed 3rd in the 100 yard back-stroke. All-State awards go to the top three in each event. Mandi Forister just missed making the All-State standard with a 4th place finish in the 100 yard butterfly. In diving, Leslie Hitchcock finished 11th.

The high school volleyball season closed out Saturday at the State Tournament in Casper. All three Sheridan County teams placed in the top four. The Big Horn Lady Rams lost in the Class 2-A Championship Match in four games to Sundance, while the Tongue River Lady Eagles finished 4th, dropping a four-game match in the consolation final to Lyman in the Class 1-A bracket. The Arvada / Clearmont Lady Panthers came back after a tough loss in the semi-finals to win the Consolation final over Cokeville.

In high school football, the Tongue River Eagles are the last S-team standing in Sheridan County. The NSI Wolves were eliminated from the playoffs Friday night in Guernsey 32-8. The Big Horn Rams’ season came to an end in Burns with the Broncs scoring a 27-13 win over the Rams, and the Sheridan Broncs fell  38-10 in Gillette. The Camels were “clicking on all eight” Friday night and were able to make things miserable for the Broncs in the first half, after holding the Camels to a field goal .Early Bronc turnovers put them behind the eight-ball as Gillette scored in bunches and built up a 38-0 half-time lead. The outcome was settled at that time, but the Broncs didn’t go down without a fight. Head coach Tim Leroy says they can all learn a lot for an up and down season. The Broncs finish the year 4-6.

Since the Wyoming Cowboys play a home game Saturday afternoon against San Diego State, all semi-final round high school playoff games will be played Friday. The Eagles will host Lyman. Kickoff Friday afternoon in Dayton will be at 1 o’clock and we will broadcast the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. The game can also be heard live on this website .

The Sheridan College Lady Generals volleyball team will play their final home match of the season tomorrow night at the Hoffman Dome as they host their conference rivals from Northwest College. Match time is at 7 o’clock. The Lady Generals will close out the regular season with road matches Friday and Saturday at Central Wyoming and Western Wyoming. Their Region Nine West Tournament will be played in Casper beginning November 9th.

The Sheridan College basketball teams open the 2006-07 season this weekend. The Lady Generals open hosting a tournament this week at the Hoffman Dome. The tournament is being sponsored by the Sheridan Holiday Inn. Play opens Thursday and runs through Saturday.

The Generals open the season as the defending Region Nine Champs. They open the season at a tournament at the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, Thursday. Fans will only get to see the Generals play at home during the Annual Lions Club Tournament over the Thanksgiving Weekend. The rest of their first-half games will be at four road tournaments.

The high school winter sports season for basketball and wrestling begins on Monday, November 13th. That’s the first day athletes can officially work-out with their coaches. The season opens on Friday, December 1st. The Broncs and Lady Broncs will open with home games against Green River.

Before playing three games at a tournament in Casper, new to the Sheridan boys and girls schedules this year will be games with Billings West High School.

The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers open their season at two tournaments. The Varsity will compete at the Billings Invitational, and the JV’s will compete at a tournament in Powell the first weekend in December. Home wrestling matches are at a premium for the fans this season. They only have two home duals -  both will be in January.

The Sheridan Bronc swimmers and divers will open their season on November 27th. They open their season December 8th at the Casper relays.

HIGH SCHOOL POST SEASON FOOTBALL GETS UNDERWAY TODAY - The post season for our Sheridan County football teams gets underway today and Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has a preview of what’s in store for the Big Horn Rams: Audio.      

At the State Volleyball Tournament in Casper, the Arvada / Clearmont Lady Panthers beat Snake River in three games in their opening match yesterday. They play Burlington tonight in the 1-A semi-finals in the Class 2-A bracket. Both Tongue River and Big Horn also won. The Lady Eagles beat Shoshoni in four games, and Big Horn beat Wyoming Indian in four games. Tongue River and Big Horn meet in the semi-finals this evening.

Team scores were not announced after this first day of the State Swimming and Diving Championships. The finals open at 11 o’clock for the Lady Broncs’ Hattie Oatts made the finals in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Rachel holst made the finals in the 50 and 100 freestyle, and Leslie Hitchcock made the finals in diving.

The Tongue River Eagles host Greybull this afternoon at 2 o’clock in Dayton. We will broadcast the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Eagles are the top seed and 8-0 going into today’s game. The Eagles beat Greybull 40-21 last week. Eagles quarterback Rob Johnston says they’ve been tough all year and need to be even better today. Eagles coach Chuck Walters says those eight regular season wins are history - now the atmosphere changes.

The Sheridan Broncs tee-it-up in Gillette tonight. The Broncs gave the Camels a good battle a week ago, and Senior Nick Montano says they need to carry the same intensity into tonight’s game. Broncs coach Tim Leroy says the Broncs’ problem all season has been turnovers - something they cannot do tonight. We will broadcast the game live tonight on AM 14-10 KWYO. Kickoff is set for 7 o’clock.

The Wyoming Cowboys play at TCU tomorrow. We will broadcast the game live for you starting at 4:30 with the Pre-game Show on AM 14-10 KWYO.

Sunday afternoon, the biggest game of the NFL schedule will have the Denver Broncos playing at home against the Indianapolis Colts. The Broncos are 5-1, the Colts are 6-0. You can hear the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO, starting with the Pre-game show at 1 o’clock.

 

10/26/06 Thursday

The Sheridan Broncs open the 5-A playoffs tomorrow night at Gillette. The Camels beat the Broncs 19-7 in the regular season finale last week. Broncs Senior Nick Montano says they are looking forward to taking another shot at the number-one ranked Camels. Turnovers really hurt the Broncs last week, and it’s been the turnovers that have held this team back in all their losses. Montano says to be in the game tomorrow, the offense has to be more consistent with its play. We will broadcast tomorrow night’s showdown for you live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Kickoff is set for 7 o’clock.

The first game of our double-header tomorrow is kickoff in Dayton when the Tongue River Eagles host Greybull. The game will start at 2 o’clock on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Big Horn Rams open the 2-A playoffs on the road tomorrow in Burns, and the NSI Wolves open the 1-A playoffs tomorrow night at Guernsey.

In other football action this weekend, the Wyoming Cowboys will play an evening game Saturday at TCU. The game can be heard live on AM 14-10 KWYO starting with the Pregame Show at 4:30.

Sunday the Denver Broncos take on the 6-0 Indianapolis Colts live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Kickoff is at 2 o’clock.

The Sheridan Lady Broncs swimmers and divers open the Class 4-A State Swimming and Diving Championships today in Gillette, and the State Volleyball Championships open this afternoon in Casper. The Arvada / Clearmont Lady Panthers will take on Snake River at 6 o’clock tonight in their opening match in the Class 1-A Division. The Big Horn Lady Rams open the 2-A bracket against Wyoming Indian, and the Tongue River Lady Eagles open the tournament against Shoshoni.
The Sheridan College Lady Generals volleyball team is coming off Tuesday’s four game victory over Casper College. Tonight the Lady Generals host a match with Central Wyoming. Match time at the Hoffman Dome is 7 o’clock.

Registration continues for the upcoming season at the Whitney Ice Rink. Registration is being taken today and tomorrow for all adult and youth hockey leagues, and also for ice skating lessons and sign-ups for the new Curling program. Registration is being taken between 3 and 6 pm at the rink on Sheridan Avenue.

 

10/25/06 Wednesday

The first game of our live playoff double-header Friday will have the Tongue River Eagles hosting Greybull. Kickoff is set for 2 o’clock. The Eagles have won eight-straight, something quarterback Rob Johnston says was a team goal last summer after attending the University of Wyoming Team Camp. The Eagles beat up Greybull last Friday 40-21, and Johnston says they have to play better against the Buffaloes this week Again, kickoff is 2 o’clock and can be heard live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Sheridan Broncs are 4-5 overall. The Gillette Camels are 8-1 overall and ranked as the top team, as the Class 5-A playoffs begin Friday. The Camles will host the Broncs. Kickoff is at 7 o’clock. The teams are familiar with each other after playing last Friday in Sheridan, where Gillette came from behind at the half to beat the Broncs 19-7. We will broadcast the game live for you on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Big Horn Rams will play their first round playoff game Friday afternoon at Burns, and the NSI Wolves will open the Class 1-A playoffs on the road at Guernsey, Friday night.

The Sheridan College Lady Generals volleyball team hosted a league match with Casper College last night. After they split the first two games, the Lady Generals won a close third game 31-29, and went onto win game four - winning the match three games to one. Tomorrow night the Lady Generals have another home match against Central Wyoming at 7 o’clock.

The State High School Volleyball Tournament tips off tomorrow. The Arvada / Clearmont girls, along with Big Horn and Tongue River will all open play Thursday. Tongue River will face Shoshoni. The Lady Rams will play Wyoming Indian, and the Lady Panthers open with Snake River.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc swimmers will be competing at the State Swimming and Diving Championships, which get underway tomorrow in Gillette.

The Sheridan Ice Rink is holding registration this week for the upcoming season. The rink is slated to open in a couple of weeks, weather permitting. Registration opens tomorrow and runs through Friday from 3 to 6 pm at the Whitney Ice Rink. 10/24/06 Tuesday

The Sheridan Lady Broncs cross-country team finished 4th in the State Meet yesterday. Gillette took the Overall Team Title. The Lady Broncs got one runner in the top 10, as Lela Carpenter finished 5th overall, and with that finish earns All-State Honors for the Broncs. They finished 8th overall, with top finisher Ryan Sorenson finishing 25th.

The Tongue River Eagles are riding high heading into their playoff game with Greybull. They’ll play in Dayton Friday afternoon. The Eagles beat Greybull last Friday to cap off a perfect regular season. One of the Seniors and middle linebacker Tom White says they had a great regular season. The defensive unit was dominating and is looking to crank it up another notch this week against the Buffaloes. If the Eagles’ defense has been stingy this year. The offense has been the opposite, scoring at will with a well-balanced running and passing attack

Quarterback Rob Johnson says he gives a lot of the credit to the defense giving confidence to the offense when they are on the field. Chuck Walters took over the head coach duties when PI Marshall retired from coaching. this past spring. Walters says a coach in his first year couldn’t have ask for a much better first season. Tongue River and Greybull will kickoff at 1 o’clock Friday afternoon. The game will be broadcast live on AM 14-10  KWYO.

We will also broadcast Friday night’s game when the Sheridan Broncs open the playoffs with Gillette. The Camels beat the Broncs 19-7 last week. Friday the game will be played in the Razor City and you can hear it live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Kickoff is at 7 o’clock.

In other first round action Friday, Big Horn will play at Burns and the NSI Wolves will play at Guernsey.

The State Volleyball Championships open Thursday in Casper. The Arvada / Clearmont Lady Panthers open the tournament with a first round match with Snake River at 6 o’clock.

In the Class 2-A bracket, the Big Horn Lady Rams will open the tournament against Wyoming Indians, and the Tongue River Lady Eagles open with Shoshoni.

The Tongue River eagles as expected beat Greybull, Friday night to finish off their regular season 8-0. The Eagles will host a rematch with the Buffaloes Friday afternoon in Dayton. In a first round playoff match-up, the game will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Big Horn Rams beat Wind River, Friday. That victory put them in the playoffs. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the wrap up of that game.  (At Top of 10/23/06.)

The Sheridan Broncs held a 7-6 halftime lead, but turnovers did them in the second half against Gillette, as the Camels beat the Broncs 19-7 Friday night. The Broncs will play at Gillette Friday night in the Class 5-A playoffs.

The NSI Wolves are 2-5 overall, and will play a first round playoff game at Guernsey, Friday afternoon.

Today we continue our conversation with long time Sheridan County high school football coach Burt Dow. Dow, along with Sheridan’s Terry Burgess, was named to the Class of 2006 for the Wyoming Coaches Hall of Fame last week. Dow has been part of eight State Championship teams since 1982, six with the Sheridan Broncs - including the last State Title at Sheridan High School - as head coach in 1995. Since leaving Sheridan High School, Dow has been the defensive coordinator for the Big Horn Rams, including State Titles in 2003 and 04. Dow says winning State Title is the best, and that during his entire coaching career, he’s always had ties to the Sheridan and Big Horn football programs.

The State High School Cross-Country Championships were called off Saturday and postponed until today. Poor weather all over - the State forced the Wyoming High School Activities Association to postpone all races until today. The schedule remains the same, and the races will be run down in Cheyenne.
The Sheridan Broncs and Lady Broncs should be right in the middle of all the action as both 4-A Fields chase Gillette for the State Title. The Broncs’ top runner is Ryan Sorenson, who says they are expecting a good competitive race today.

Regional Volleyball Tournaments close out over the weekend:
The Big Horn Lady Rams, the Tongue River Lady Eagles, and the Arvada / Clearmont Lady Panthers all advanced to this week’s State Tournament. The Sheridan Lady Broncs were eliminated from their Regional Friday night by Gillette.

The Big Horn girls will open the State Tournament as the Regional Champs. They beat Sundance in the Regional Finals and will open the State Tournament against the Wyoming Indians, Thursday afternoon. The Tongue River Lady Eagles finished 3rd at the East Regional and open the State Tournament, Thursday afternoon against Shoshoni at 3 o’clock.

The Arvada / Clermont Lady Panthers lost in the Regional Finals to number-one ranked Lingle-Fort Laramie. The Lady Panthers open the State Tournament against Snake River at 6 o’clock Thursday night. All State Tournament games are being played at the Casper eEvents Center.

The Wyoming Cowboys made it three-straight wins by routing Colorado State, Saturday 24-0. The Pokes are now 3-1 in Conference play, and 4-4 overall. This week the Cowboys play a road conference games at TCU.

The Denver Broncos beat Cleveland yesterday 17-7. This week the broncos are 5-1 and lead the division with San Diego at 4-2. The Broncos host the unbeaten Indianapolis Colts, Sunday.

 

10/20/06 Friday

In football action this afternoon, the Big Horn Rams host Wind River. Kickoff is set for 1 o’clock and will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO

The Tongue River Eagles play at Greybull tonight as they go after an unbeaten regular season. The Eagles have already wrapped up the home field advantage for the playoffs, which get underway a week from today.

The Sheridan Broncs host the Energy Bowl with Gillette tonight. Bronc fullback and linebacker Micha Kadera says they always look forward to their annual meeting with Gillette, and the Broncs have a good week of preparation for tonight’s showdown with the Camels. We will broadcast the game live tonight on AM 14-10 KWYO. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 o’clock.

The Sheridan High School cross-country teams run in the Wyoming State Championships tomorrow in Cheyenne. The Broncs leader is Ryan Sorenson. He’s been the Broncs’ most consistent runner all year, with several top ten finishes, and he talks about his expectations tomorrow.  Sorenson says the team race should be tight.

Volleyball Regional Tournaments open today. This afternoon the Sheridan Lady Broncs open the North 4-A Regional in Gillette by facing the home team in the first round.

Big Horn and Tongue River open the 2-A East Regional in Torrington against Burns and Southeast. The Arvada / Clearmont Lady Panthers open the 1-A East Regional in Gillette against Midwest. The All-Class State Tournament opens next Thursday at the Casper Events Center.

The Sheridan College Lady Generals host a match with Eastern Wyoming in the Hoffman Dome tonight at 7 o’clock. Tomorrow afternoon they also play at home against Laramie County at 2 o’clock.

Former longtime Sheridan High School football track coach and current assistant at Big Horn, Burt Dow, along with former Sheridan wrestling, football and track coach, Terry Burgess, have been named to the Class of 2006 for the Wyoming Coaches Hall of Fame. Dow has been part of eight State Football Championship teams, six of those coming at Sheridan High School between 1982 and 1995. The other two were with the Rams in 2003 and 04..Dow says it’s a great honor to be named to the Hall of Fame, and to go in with longtime friend Terry Burgess makes it even better. Dow started at Sheridan High School. Back in 1978, he was an assistant coach for Bruce Kieth for five State Championships. He was the head coach for the last Sheridan State Title in 1995. He says he has so many great memories of the players.

Former Sheridan High School graduate Luois Engles has joined the University of Wyoming Cowboys basketball team as a walk-on. As we announced last week, it been a whirlwind for the last couple of weeks for Engels as the Pokes get ready to open the season with practice and Media Day, which was held Wednesday. The Pokes open their exhibition schedule November 4th . I finally caught up with the newest Cowboy basketball play, and Engles says he was just playing pick-up basketball one day, and the rest is history. Louis says its’ a dream come true to wear the brown and gold.

The Sheridan Recreation District has added a new sports specialist to their staff. Aimee Tice has been on the job for a week, and stopped by the studios yesterday. The Rec District is getting ready to open up Intramural basketball for 6th, 7th and 8th grade boys, and Tice says they are looking for coaches and referees. The Gillette Camels come into Sheridan tomorrow night as the number one ranked team in Class 5-A.  Add that fact in, and the Broncs playing their closest conference rival -coach Tim Leroy says there is plenty of incentive for the Broncs to play well. We will broadcast tomorrow’s game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Kickoff at Homer Scott Stadium is set for 7 o’clock.

The Big Horn Rams are still in the battle to make the Class 2-A playoffs. The Rams host Wind River tomorrow afternoon. Rams’ coach Bob St. John says the players know what’s on the line tomorrow. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 1 o’clock. Ron Richter and Trevor Thompson will have all the action for you live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Tongue River Eagles look to put an exclamation mark on the regular season tomorrow when they play at Greybull. The Eagles are 7-0 and look to build more momentum heading into the playoffs. Eagles’ coach Chuck Walters says this is a big game for the Eagles as they prepare to open the post season. The Eagles will host an opening round game next week, with both the Big Horn Rams and Sheridan Broncs having to travel.

The Wyoming Cowboys will host Colorado State, Saturday in the 98th Border War. You can hear the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Kickoff is set for 2 o’clock.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc cross-country teams close out the 2006 season Saturday by competing at the Wyoming Cross-Country State Championships in Cheyenne.

The high school volleyball season starts post season play tomorrow. The Sheridan Lady Broncs will open the North 4-A Regional Tournament with a first round match with Gillette. The tournament is being played in Gillette. The top four teams qualify for the State Tournament.

The Big Horn Lady Rams and Tongue River Lady Eagles play at the Class 2-A East Regional in Torrington tomorrow. The Lady Rams open with Burns. The Tongue River Lady Eagles open with Southeast.

The Class 4-A State Swimming and Diving Championships open a week from tomorrow in Gillette. The Sheridan Lady Broncs are going through their first phase of the tapering process in preparation for the season finale. And with all the rest the girls are getting, head coach Larry White says there is a whole new attitude in the pool this week. A total of eight Lady Broncs will compete at the State Meet including all three Lady Bronc relay teams.

It’s week eight of the high school football season. The first round of the playoffs opens a week from Friday. The Big Horn Rams have a big home game Friday against Wind River. A win Friday puts them in the playoffs. Head coach Bob St. John says they continue to search for more consistency of the offensive side of the ball. The game will kickoff Friday at 1 o’clock, and you can hear all the action live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Tongue River Eagles know they will be hosting a first round playoff game next week. Friday they go for an unbeaten regular season with a game at Greybull. The Eagles are coming off last weeks nail-biter at Sundance, and coach Chuck Walters says even though they are favored going into the Greybull game, they can’t afford any let down now.

The Sheridan Broncs take on the Gillette Camels in the Energy Bowl Friday night. It will be your last chance to see the Broncs play at home this season. Kickoff Friday night will be at 7 o’clock and can be heard live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Next week the Broncs will open the playoffs on the road, and in a interesting twist will face Gillette again, but the game will be played over in the Razor City.

The Sheridan High School cross-country teams close out another successful season, competing Saturday at the Wyoming State Cross-Country Championships is Cheyenne.

High school volleyball Regional Tournaments open Friday. The Big Horn Lady Rams and Tongue River Lady Eagles will be in Torrington for the 2-A East Regional. The Lady Rams will play Burns in their first match, while Tongue River will play Southeast. If both teams win, they will face each other in the semi-finals. The Sheridan Lady Broncs play at the 4-A North Regional in Gillette. The Lady Broncs will open Friday afternoon against Gillette. The Lady Broncs took both regular season matches against the Camels.

The Sheridan College Lady Generals volleyball team will open a five match home stand this weekend. They host eastern Wyoming, Friday night at the Hoffman Dome, starting at 7 o’clock  -  and Saturday afternoon they host a match will Laramie County that will get underway at 2 o’clock next week. On Tuesday and Thursday they have home matches with Casper College and Central Wyoming.

Sheridan Ice is gearing up for another season of skating, hockey and other activities at the Whitney Ice Rink. Opening day is tentatively set for November 6th, weather permitting. Registration for all Sheridan Ice programs will run next week, Wednesday through Friday from 3 to 6 pm. They will be taking registration for all youth and adult hockey leagues, plus skating lessons and the new curling club. The 4-A North Regional Tournament starts Friday in Gillette. The Lady Broncs will play the host team in their opener at 1 o’clock Friday. The Lady Broncs beat Gillette twice during the regular season. The Consolation game and Championship will be played Saturday afternoon. The top four teams qualify for next week’s State Tournament.

The Class 2-A East Regional will be played in Torrington starting Friday. The Big Horn Lady Rams will play Burns in their opener at 2:30 Friday afternoon, while the Tongue River Lady Eagles will play Southeast in their first match. If both teams win, they would face each other in the Semi-Finals, Friday night. The top four teams will make it to the All-Class State Championships which open Thursday, October 26th at the Casper Events Center.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc cross-country teams will run at the State Championships in Cheyenne, Saturday. Coach Art Bauers says both the Broncs and Lady Broncs are coming off good performances at the North Regional last week.

In football action this week, it’s the final week of the high school regular season. The Sheridan Broncs will close it out at home Friday night against Gillette, and if all holds true, the Broncs would turn around and face the Camels in the first round of the playoffs next Friday over in Gillette.

The Big Horn Rams will face Wind River at home Friday. A win puts the Rams in the playoffs. The Tongue River Eagles have already won their regular season title and will have the home field advantage in the playoffs. The 7-0 Eagles go for an unbeaten regular season on the road Friday night at Greybull.

The first round of the high school playoffs will have all games played next Friday. Semi Finals will be played on Saturday, November 4th, and all five State Title games will be played Saturday, November 11th.

The Wyoming Cowboys have won two straight. Mountain West Conference games, and look to make a big move in the Conference Standings this week when they host the 98th border war with Colorado State. The Pokes and Rams kickoff Saturday afternoon in Laramie at 2 o’clock. The game can be heard live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

10/16/06 Monday

The Tongue River Eagles won their 7th straight of the season at Sundance, and had to come from behind twice to pick up a hard fought 19-13 win. Head coach Chuck Walters says they knew they would be in for a good battle with the Bulldogs. Rob Johnson scored the winning touchdown in the closing seconds to preserve the Eagles’ perfect season. Walters says that after winning big in so many games it was a good test for the players to have to get it done that late in the game. The Eagles finish up the regular season Friday night at Greybull. They know they will have the home field advantage throughout the playoffs, which begin on October 27th. The Eagles could face Greybull in Dayton in two weeks.

The Big Horn Rams beat NSI 45-14 on Friday. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has this report. The Rams know this if they make the playoffs they will have to travel next week Early indications suggest their first round opponent could be Burns.

The Sheridan Broncs had the Casper Natrona Mustangs shaking their heads at halftime as the Broncs played them even at 7-7. Going into the locker-room, the Broncs played a great first half including a 30 yard touchdown pass from Dustin Mcalla to Josh Dunkelbeger, to tie the game late in the first half. However, they couldn’t keep the momentum going in the second half. The Bronc defense played wel,l picking off four NC passes in the first half, including two from Jimmy Burgess. This week is Gillette week for the Broncs. It will be your last chance to see the Broncs play at home this year. Friday night kickoff is at 7 o’clock next week. The playoffs begin, and in a strange twist it looks like the Broncs will open the 5-A playoffs against the Camels in Gillette, Friday the 27th.

The Wyoming Cowboys thumped Utah 31-18 Saturday. This week they play at home again against Colorado State. That’s a 2 o’clock kickoff at War Memorial Stadium.

The Denver Broncos are 4-1 after beating the Oakland Raiders 13-3 last night. Sunday, the Broncos will play at the Cleveland Browns.
The Sheridan Lady Bronc swimmers and divers are getting ready for the State Championships after hosting the North Regionals over the weekend. The Lady Broncs finished the Regional in third place behind Gillette and Casper Kelly Walsh. Gillette won all 12 events in the meet, to dominate the field. The Lady Camels are an overwhelming favorite to win the State Title. They host the State Championships, which are scheduled to start on Thursday, October 26th.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc cross-country team placed 2nd behind Gillette at the North 4-A Conference meeting in Riverton. Lela Carpenter was the Lady Broncs’ top finisher. She placed 2nd. Emily Bobinchak finished 6th, Dana Morin was 13th and Heather Schmidt was 15th. Both Carpenter and Bobinchak made the North All-Conference team.

The Broncs finished third, tied with Casper Natrona. The Broncs’ Ryan Sorenson led the way, finishing 6th and earning his second All-Conference honor this week. Both teams will compete in the State Championships in Cheyenne, Saturday.

The high school volleyball regular season is over. The Conference Champion Big Horn Lady Rams and 2nd place Tongue River will play at their Regional tournament in Torrington starting on Friday. The top four teams advance to the State Tournament.

 The Sheridan Lady Broncs will play at the 4-A North Regional in Gillette this weekend. The top four teams will also advance to the All-Class State Championships, which get underway in Casper, Thursday, October 26th.

The Sheridan College Lady Generals volleyball team is off until they open a five match home stand starting Friday against Eastern Wyoming. That match will be played at 7 o’clock Friday night, Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock. They will play Laramie County next week on Tuesday and Thursday. They play home matches with Casper and Central Wyoming, and end the home stand against Northwest College on Halloween night.

The Sheridan Broncs play at Casper Natrona tonight. It’s a big game tonight for the Broncs after picking up a conference win at Riverton last week. Both Sheridan and Casper Natrona are 1-1 In north conference play. Head coach Tim Leroy says this has become a big game We will broadcast the game live tonight on AM 14-10 KWYO. Kickoff is set for 7 o’clock.

The Tongue River Eagles will play at Sundance this afternoon. The Eagles are 6-0, and Sundance has put together a good season, as well, as Tongue River faces their toughest challenge of the season.

The Big Horn Rams and NSI Wolves will tee it up out in Big Horn this afternoon. The Wolves have two wins, while the Rams are fighting for playoff position. Rams’ coach Bob St. John says this in an important game for Big Horn. We will broadcast this game live for you this afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 o’clock, live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Wyoming Cowboys haven’t had much luck against Utah over the last several seasons. They’ll play in Laramie tomorrow. Utah has won the 6 games between the two teams. The Cowboys are coming off a win at New México last week. Kickoff tomorrow is at 1 o’clock and can be heard live on AM 14-10 KWYO.
 
The Sheridan Lady Bronc swimmers and divers open the North 4-A Conference Meet this afternoon at the Sheridan Junior High Pool. Coach Larry White is looking forward to getting the post season started. The State Meet opens Thursday, October 26th in Gillette.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc cross-country teams run at the North 4-A Conference meet in Riverton later today. Coach Art Bauers says the Lady Broncs should be right in the hunt, and with the improvement the Broncs have made, they are confident heading into today’s race. The State Championships will run next Saturday in Cheyenne.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc volleyball teams plays their final home match of the season tonight at Sheridan High School. They host league-leading Casper Kelly Walsh. Coach Wendy Mader says they all know how big this match is for the Lady Broncs. They will play their regular season finale at Casper Natrona tomorrow night. The North 4-A Regional Tournament will be played in Gillette next week.

In other University of Wyoming sports notes, the Cowgirls and Cowboys basketball teams open practice this weekend for the 2006-07 season..The Pokes will have a two hour practice starting at 11 o’clock tomorrow morning prior to the football game. The practice will be open to the public, and another interesting note - the Cowboys will have a Sheridan High School graduate on the team this year, former Bronc basketball stand-out Louis Engles will be a Cowboy this season. Engles is joining the cowboys as a walk-on. He’s a Junior majoring in Civil Engineering. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 2004 during his Junior year. He was a member of the Broncs’ State Championship team in the 2002-03 season.

The Sheridan Broncs and Lady Bronc cross-country teams run in Riverton tomorrow at the North 4-A Conference Meet. The Lady Broncs are poised for a good meet. The Broncs have made steady improvement all season, and coach Art Bauers says the Broncs have a lot on confidence heading into the post season. Following the Regional tomorrow, the State Cross-Country Championships will be run next Saturday in Cheyenne.

The Lady Bronc swimmers and divers open the two-day North 4-A Conference meet tomorrow at home. Head coach Larry White says they have several swimmers that are close to meeting the State Meet qualifying standards. And the Lady Broncs are confident for a good finish. Action starts tomorrow afternoon and will finish up Saturday afternoon. The State Meet will open in Gillette, Thursday the 26th.

In other local action, it’s the final week of the high school volleyball season. Tonight the Big Horn Lady Rams play at Tongue River. The Varsity match is scheduled for 7:30. The Lady Rams close out their season Saturday at Wright, while the Lady Eagles will play tomorrow at Wright next week. Both teams will play at the Class 2-A West Regional in Torrington. The top four teams make it to the State Championships in Casper starting on the 26th.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc host the Casper Kelly Walsh girls tomorrow night, and then close out the regular season at Natrona County, Saturday. Coach Wendy Mader says it’s important for the Lady Broncs to finish the season strong, and both matches present the Lady Broncs with a good challenge. Tomorrow night’s Varsity match with Kelly Walsh is scheduled to start at 6:15 at Sheridan High School. The North 4-A Regional Tournament will be played in Gillette next week.

In high school football action, tomorrow the NSI Wolves will play at Big Horn. Saturday afternoon, the Wyoming Cowboys will host Utah. The Utes have beaten the Pokes six straight, and 8 of the last 10. It’s Homecoming weekend in Laramie, as well. The Cowboys go after two straight wins after breaking a four-game losing streak last week at New Mexico. The Sheridan Lady Bronc volleyball team wanted a tune up with Buffalo before they played the Casper schools Friday and Saturday. The problem was that Lady Bison tuned up on the Lady Broncs. The Lady Bison stunned Sheridan, winning the match in three straight games. They face Casper Kelly Walsh, Friday. That match will be at home Friday night at 6:15. The Lady Broncs close out the regular season at Natrona County, Saturday.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc swimmers and divers will host the North 4-A Conference meet this weekend. Lady Broncs coach Larry White says several Lady Broncs have started their taper for the Conference Meet and there is a lot more enthusiasm in the pool this week. The North 4-A Conference meet opens Friday afternoon and runs through Saturday afternoon. The 4-A State Championships starts in Gillette Thursday, October 26th.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc cross-country teams will run at the North 4-A Conference meet Friday in Riverton. The State Championships are next Saturday in Cheyenne.

The Tongue River Eagles get ready for another road test this week at Sundance. The Eagles are 6-0 and have dominated all six opponents. Head coach Chuck Walters says they are on a roll but need to keep their focus and not look too far ahead. The Eagles defense have allowed only 18 points in six games, and have three shut-outs to their credit. The game kicks-off in Sundance, Friday afternoon at 3 o’clock.

Big Horn and NSI play Friday afternoon in Big Horn. That will be the first game of Friday’s live broadcast double-header. Kickoff is set for 1 o’clock. The Sheridan Lady Bronc volleyball team will host a Non-Conference match with Buffalo this evening. The Varsity match is scheduled for 6 o’clock on Friday. The Lady Broncs play their final home match of the season hosting Casper Kelly Walsh. They end the regular season Saturday at Casper Natrona. The 4-A North Regional Tournament will be in Gillette next week, with the State Tournament to follow in Casper, October 27th and 28th.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc swimmers and divers will host the North Conference meet Friday and Saturday. Events begin Friday afternoon, and conclude Saturday afternoon. The Lady Broncs will then have a week off to prepare for the State Meet in Gillette, which will begin Thursday, October 26th.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc cross-country runners open the post season on the road Friday. The North 4-A Regional Meet will be held in Riverton. Coach Art Bauers says it’s business as usual this week. Since the State Meet in two weeks is the big prize, they’ll be trying to treat the Conference Meet as just another regular season meet. Both teams are coming off second place finishes at a big invitational in Loveland, Colorado last week. Bauers says that experience should help over the next two weeks. Again, the 4-A North Conference meet is Friday in Riverton, the State Championships will be a week from Saturday in Cheyenne.

The Big Horn Rams and Normative Services Wolves square off in Big Horn, Friday afternoon. The Rams are 3-3 on the season, while NSI is 2 overall. Kickoff in Big Horn is scheduled for 1 o’clock. The game will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Tongue River Eagles are 6-0. The Eagles have allowed only three touchdowns in their six wins, and have three shut-outs to their credit, the last one coming a week ago in Moorcroft, where they routed the Wolves 43-0. This week the Eagles are back out on I-90, with a trip over to Sundance. Friday afternoon kickoff will be at 3 o’clock.

The Sheridan Broncs ended their three-game losing streak at Riverton last Friday. This week they play on the road at Casper Natrona, Friday night. The Broncs are 1-1 in North Conference play. The University of Wyoming Cowboys beat New Mexico last Saturday, to end their four-game losing streak. This week is Homecoming week in Laramie, as the pokes host Utah, Saturday afternoon. You can hear all the action live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 o’clock.

UW also introduced a new athletic director yesterday, and it will be a familiar name to most Cowboy fans, as Laramie native Tom Burman returns to the University as the next athletic director. Burman replaces Gary Barta, who left this past spring for the University of Iowa. Burman was the head of Wyoming Cowboy Joe in 1995. He left Laramie in 2000 to become the ad at Portland State. He returned to UW this spring to become an associate vice president for Institutional Advancement, and now takes over the Cowboy and Cowgirl Athletic Department.

The Denver Broncos beat the Baltimore Ravens 13-3 last night.  Sunday the broncos will host the Oakland Raiders on the NFL, Sunday night. The game will be broadcast on AM 14-10 KWYO. Kickoff is at 6:15.

Some interested Sheridan Curlers are having an organizational and information meeting Saturday night at 7 o’clock. The meeting will be held at the Whitney Ice Rink. Last winter, a Curling Club from Rapid City came to Sheridan for a demonstration, and this year they are looking at forming a Curling Club in Sheridan. 10/09/06 Monday

The Tongue River Eagles football team stayed unbeaten with a 43-0 win at Moorcroft this week. The Eagles will play at Sundance, Friday afternoon. The Eagles are 6-0 and will remain ranked 2nd in Class 3-A this week, because number one ranked Mountain View also won and is 6-0.

The Big Horn Rams got knocked off at home 30-20 by Sundance this week. The Rams will play at home against NSI at 1 o’clock.

The NSI Wolves picked up their second win of the season, bombing Wyoming Indians 50-14. The Wolves face off with Big Horn Friday afternoon.

The Sheridan Broncs broke their 3-game losing streak Friday at Riverton. The Broncs came back from a halftime deficit to win the game 9-8. Josh Dunkelberger scored on a three yard run, and Tyler Wells kicked a 25 yard field goal in the second half to win it. Coach Tim Leroy says they kept it simple in practice all week, and it paid off Friday. With the win, the Broncs are in good shape to pick up the final North Conference playoff spot this week. They travel to play at Natrona County. In two weeks the Broncs end the regular season October 20th at home against Gillette. The first round of the playoffs will be Friday, October 27th.

In other football action, the Wyoming Cowboys got it done Saturday night at New Mexico, breaking their four game losing streak, beating the Lobos 14-10. This week is Homecoming week in Laramie. The Cowboys host Utah, Saturday afternoon.

Tonight the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens will be on center stage as the Broncos host the Ravens for Monday Night Football. We will broadcast the game live tonight starting at 5:30.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc volleyball team has three matches left on their regular season schedule. They play at home tomorrow night against Buffalo at 6 o’clock, then home for a conference match with Casper Kelly Walsh, Friday, and at Natrona County, Saturday. Coach Wendy Mader says the Casper matches are big. The Lady Broncs have lost to both teams, and Mader says they’ll have to be on top of their game.

The Sheridan High School cross-country teams closed out their regular season Saturday at a meet in Loveland, Colorado. Both the Broncs and Lady Broncs finished 2nd in their divisions. The Lady Broncs’ top finisher was Lela Carpenter. She finished 5th,  with Emily Bobinchak 9th for the Broncs. They were led by Ryan Sorenson. He finished 6th overall Friday. Both teams will run at the North Conference meet in Riverton. The State Championships will be October 21st in Cheyenne.

The Lady Bronc swimmers and divers will host the North 4-A Regional Meet, Saturday, then have a week off before the State Championships in Gillette starting on Thursday, October 26th.

 

10/06/06 Friday

The Lady Broncs drilled Gillette last night in volleyball action at Sheridan High School. They took a close first game and blew the Lady Camels away in the next two games, to sweep the match. It was a great win. Coach Wendy Mader liked the way the Lady Broncs dominated throughout the match. The Lady Broncs have Buffalo at home Tuesday, then close out the regular season against the Casper schools next weekend.

The Big Horn Rams will host the Sundance Bulldogs this afternoon in their Homecoming game. The Rams have won two in a row on the road, and now start three weeks straight at home. Head coach Bob St. John talks about the match-up with the Bulldogs. We will broadcast the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 o’clock. The Lady Rams volleyball team will play Sundance at noon.

The Tongue River Eagles look to stay undefeated on the road today. They are 5-0 and ranked 2nd in Class 3-A this week as they take on Moorcroft this afternoon. After today’s game, the Eagles finish with two more road games at Sundance and Greybull.

The Sheridan Broncs face a big North 4-A Conference showdown at Riverton tonight. The Broncs are reeling after three straight losses. The coaching staff made some changes in personnel this week to try and jump start the offense, which has scored only once in the last three games. They were shut out against Kelly Walsh and Cheyenne Central. Turnovers have plagued the team as well - during the streak they’ve turned the ball over 15 times. There is a lot riding on tonight’s game. Gillette, Casper Natrona and Kelly Walsh are already in playoff position, so the winner in tonight’s game between the Broncs and Wolverines will probably take the final playoff spot, with the loser playing out the string the last two weeks of the regular season. The Sheridan High School cross-country runners end their regular season tomorrow at an invitational meet in Loveland, Colorado. Coach Art Baures says this is a great way for the team to prepare for the post season which begins next week

The Sheridan Lady Bronc swimmers and divers host a dual with Cody this afternoon at 4 o’clock tomorrow. They close out the regular season competing at an invitational over in Gillette. The Lady Broncs host the North 4-A Conference Meet next week.

The Sheridan Lady Broncs beat Gillette  back on September 14th. Tonight the Lady Broncs host the Lady Camels. Coach Wendy Mader says they’ll get another good test tonight. The varsity match is scheduled to get started at 6 o’clock.

The Bronc and Lady Bronc cross-country teams run at an invitational in Loveland, Colorado Saturday. Coach Art Bauers says it will be great experience for all the runners. Next week they run at the North 4-A Conference meet in Riverton, and in two weeks the State Championships in Cheyenne.

The Lady Bronc swimmers and divers host a dual with Cody tomorrow starting at 4 o’clock. They end the regular season at an invitational in Gillette, Saturday. Sheridan High School will host the North 4-A Conference meet next week before the State Championships in Gillette, October 26th and 27th..

Homecoming week activates continue at Big Horn High School today, with volleyball and a pep rally. The Lady Rams will play Moorcroft at 6 o’clock tomorrow. The Lady Rams will play Sundance at noon, and the Rams’ football team will take on Sundance at 2 o’clock. That game will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Tongue River Eagles football team will play at Moorcroft tomorrow afternoon. The Lady Eagles volleyball team will play matches at Upton and Sundance, Saturday.

The Sheridan Bronc football season comes down to one game Friday in Riverton, as the North Conference teams jockey for playoff positions. Gillette has assumed the number one spot, with Casper Natrona and Kelly Walsh next, followed by Sheridan and Riverton. It appears that the winner between the Broncs and Wolverines will make the playoffs, with the loser playing out the string for the final two weeks of the season. As the Broncs absorbed their third consecutive loss last week, head coach Tim Leroy says they’ve tried to keep it simple in their game preparation for this week, and the players responded to some line up changes this week and will be ready to face the Wolverines in two days. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 7 o’clock Friday night. We will broadcast the game for you live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Tongue River Eagles are 5-0 and remain number two in the latest Class 3-A Power Poll. The Eagles are second behind Mtn. View, also at 5-0. The Eagles play their next three games on the road. Friday they play at Moorcroft. Next week the Eagles play at Sundance, then to Greybull to finish off the regular season.

The Big Horn Rams have won two in a row and are ranked 4th this week in the Class 2-A Power Poll. They host Sundance Friday afternoon. Sundance won the 2-A State Title in 2005. Rams coach Bob St. John says it should be a good game with the Bulldogs The Rams’ biggest problem this season is they’ve been their own worst enemy at times. St. John says they need to cut down those mistakes. We will broadcast the game Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock, live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Big Horn Lady Rams and the Tongue River Lady Eagles volleyball teams remain ranked in the Class 2-A Volleyball Poll this week. The Lady Rams are 2nd, while the Lady Eagles are 4th. Tongue River will play at Moorcroft, Friday and over to Sundance, Saturday. The Lady Rams host Moorcroft tomorrow night at 6 o’clock, and host Sundance in their Homecoming match Friday at noon.

The Sheridan Lady Broncs will host Gillette tomorrow night. The Varsity match is scheduled to start at 6 o’clock.

The Sheridan High School cross-country teams end their regular season Saturday at a big invitational meet in Loveland, Colorado.

The Lady Bronc swimmers and divers will host a dual with Cody, Friday and compete at an Invitational in Gillette, Saturday.

Our football broadcast schedule looks like this: Friday we will open our Double-Header on KWYO at 2 o’clock, with Big Horn hosting Sundance. Then the Sheridan Broncs play at Riverton at 7 o’clock Saturday night. The Wyoming Cowboys play at New Mexico. That game is scheduled for a 6 o’clock kickoff.

The Denver Broncos will play Monday night against the Baltimore Ravens, live on KWYO at 6:30.

Homecoming activities opened last night at Big Horn High School with their Annual Chili Supper tomorrow. Activites continue with a movie viewing for Big Horn students and staff at Centennial Theaters. Thursday the school will host its Homecoming Week Pep Assembly. The Lady Rams volleyball team will play Moorcroft Thursday evening.. Homecoming Day Friday, the Lady Rams will play Sundance. The Varsity match is scheduled to start at noon, then the football game with Sundance. The Rams are 3-2 on the season and have won two straight on the road. Head coach Bob St. John says everyone is looking forward to their next three at home. Kickoff Friday is at 2 o’clock. The game will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Tongue River Eagles football team will stay ranked number two in the class 3-A Football Powder Poll. This week the Eagles are 5-0, and number one Mtn.View is also 5-0. Friday the Eagles play on the road at Moorcroft.

The Sheridan Broncs have lost three straight after opening the season 3-0. The Broncs play at Riverton Friday night. That will be the second game of our double-header kickoff is at 7 o’clock.

The Wyoming Cowboys have lost four straight after leading a late comeback at Syracuse last Saturday. Head coach Joe Glenn has promoted freshmen quarterback Karsten Sween to the Pokes starter for Saturday night’s game at New Mexico. You can hear the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 o’clock.

The Denver Broncos will play at home on the next Monday Night Football game on ESPN. The Broncos host the Baltimore Ravens next Monday, and the ball game will be broadcast live on KWYO starting at 6:30.

The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals basketball teams have opened up their pre season camps. Lady Generals coach Frank McCarthy says this time of year they’re always optimistic and upbeat. McCarthy says he visited with former Lady Generals player Lindsey Hiemkes last week. Hiemkes would have been a sophomore for the Lady Generals this year, but was paralyzed in an auto accident after the season this past spring. McCarthy says Hienkes is planning on attending a home game sometime this season.

The Generals open the season as the defending Region Nine Champs. Joel Davidson returns three top guards from last year’s title winners, sophomores Brian Duckworth, James Bullock and Dorian Watson, along with power forward Casey
Riley. Davidson says with additions they added to the roster, the Generals are looking to just reload this year.

In other local action this week, the Sheridan High School cross-country teams end their regular season running at an Invitational meet in Loveland, Colorado.

The Lady Bronc swimmers and divers host a conference dual with Cody, Friday afternoon, and then over to Gillette, Saturday for a regular season-ending Invitational meet.

The Lady Broncs will be the host team for the North Conference meet next weekend.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc volleyball team will host a match with Gillette, Thursday night. The Varsity match is scheduled to start at 6 o’clock.

The Tongue River Lady Eagles volleyball team will play two matches on the road. This week they play at Moorcroft, Friday and Upton, Saturday.

The Sheridan College Lady Generals volleyball team will play in Torrington and Cheyenne, Friday and Saturday.

TONGUE RIVER EAGLES CHALK UP ANOTHER WIN - The Tongue River Eagles upped their record to 5-0 on Friday with an impressive 31-6 win against the Lovell Bulldogs. Sheridan Media Sports Ron Richter has the details: Audio .

The Sheridan Broncs finished 8th in the 15 team field at the State Tennis Championships while the Lady Broncs ended up in third place overall. Number one singles player Diane Cole won the Girls Consolation Final, and number two singles player Emily Holst played for the State Championship and lost a close match with Ashley Stratton from Cheyenne Central. Stratton took the match 7-5 in the first set and closed it out 6-3 in the second set.

The Sheridan Broncs fell behind early to Cheyenne Central Friday night, and never recovered. Central went out to a 31-2 halftime lead and won it by the final of 34-2. Coach Tim Leroy says they ran into a pretty good team .On the bright side, the Bronc defense only gave up a second half field goal. To say the Bronc offense has been struggling is an understatement. In three straight losses  they were shut out against Kelly Walsh, had one touchdown against Cody, and nothing against Central

This Friday will be the Broncs’ last chance to salvage their season. They play at Riverton, and the way the conference has shaped up, it looks like the winner of this game will make the playoffs, and the loser will play out the string over the following two weeks That game will be Friday night at 7 o’clock and will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Tongue River Eagles continue to roll with another big win Friday.

The Big Horn Rams will host their Homecoming game Friday. The Rams have won two in a row. They beat Moorcroft 24-7 Friday, to run their record to 3-2 overall. The Rams host the Sundance Bulldogs Friday afternoon. The game will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 1 o’clock.

The Wyoming Cowboys dropped their fourth straight Saturday at Syracuse. The Pokes lose 40-34 in double overtime. This week the Pokes will play Saturday night at New Mexico. The broadcast will open at 5 o’clock live on 14-10 KWYO.

The Denver Broncos enjoyed a week off. Their next game will be at home a week from tonight when they host the Baltimore Ravens for Monday Night Football.

In weekend volleyball action, the Sheridan Lady Broncs picked up two more conference wins by sweeping home matches with Riverton and Cody on Thursday. The Lady Broncs will play at home as they go for a regular season sweep against Gillette. They beat the Lady Camels in Gillette back on September 14th. The Varsity match is scheduled for 6 o’clock Thursday night.

The Arvada / Clearmont girls lost in title game at an invitational in Kaycee, Saturday. TheY dropped the match in three games to the host team.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc cross-country teams competed at the Worland Invitational Friday. The Lady Broncs finished 3rd. The top finisher was Lela Carpenter in 2nd place, Emily Bobinchak finished 8th. The Broncs were once again lead by Ryan Sorenson. He took the top overall spot as the Broncs finished 3rd as a team. Connor Beard finished 8th.

This week the Broncs and Lady Broncs will complete their regular season running at the “Centerra Classic” Invitational in Loveland, Colorado. The meet features 27 teams from Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico. The 4-A North Regionals are in two weeks in Riverton. The State Championships are set for October 21st in Cheyenne.

The Sheridan lady Bronc swimmers and divers dropped two conference duals with Casper Natrona and Kelly Walsh this week. The Lady Broncs host a home conference dual with Cody. That’s Friday at 4 o’clock. Then it’s over to Gillette for a big invitational to end the regular season. Sheridan High School will host the North Conference meet on the 13th and 14th.

The Sheridan College volleyball team is off until a road trip this weekend for conference matches at Eastern Wyoming and Laramie County. The Lady Generals will play a five match home stand starting October 20th.
