TONGUE RIVER EAGLES PREVIEW  - The Tongue River Eagles will look to keep their four game winning streak going this afternoon with a home game against Lovell. Here’s Sheridan Media Sports’ Ron Richter with a preview: Audio.

After this first round of matches yesterday at the State Tennis Tournament in Cheyenne, the Sheridan Lady Broncs find themselves tied for second place with Cheyenne Central. Both teams are just three and a half points behind the leader Casper Natrona. The Broncs sit in 9th place in the 15 teams field. Championship Bracket Semi Finals will be played today, with the consolation bracket playing quarter finals and semi finals. All the champions will be crowned tomorrow.

The Tongue River Eagles go after five straight victories this afternoon. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has a preview of this afternoon’s ball game in Dayton .

The Big Horn Rams are 2-2 as they head over to Moorcroft today for their final road game of the regular season. The Rams are 2-1 in road games this year, and coming off last week’s shut-out win at Rocky Mtn. Head coach bob st. John says they are in for another good road test today. Following today’s game in Moorcroft, the Rams will play three straight at home, something the players are really looking forward to

The NSI Wolves will play on the road tomorrow. The Wolves are 1-2 overall and coming off a 30-22 win over Midwest last week. Later today they play at Upton.

The Sheridan Broncs are looking to turn their season around tonight when they host their Homecoming game with Cheyenne Central. The Broncs have dropped two straight and are coming off an un-inspired performance  in Cody, where they lost to the 4-A Broncs, 10-7. The Sheridan defense carried the load last week, with an ineffective offense needing to make a good showing tonight. They started the season 3-0, and after back-to-back losses where they have scored only 7 points, head coach Tim Leroy says the three game winning streak got everyone a little ahead of themselves. Central won the 5-A State Title in 2005 and are 2-2 including two close losses to the Casper schools. We will have tonight’s ball game for you live on AM 14-10 KWYO, starting with the Pre-Game Show at 6:30, presented by the Wyoming Rib and Chop House kickoff is set for 7 o’clock.

The University of Wyoming Cowboys will play at Syracuse tomorrow. The Pokes are 1-3, dropping three straight close games against Virginia, Boise State, and last week’s 31-24 loss against the Air Force Academy. We will have the game live for you tomorrow on AM 14-10 KWYO. It’s an early start as well - the Pre-Game Show will open the broadcast at 10:30 with kickoff at 11:30.

Also tonight there will be a Bronc fan ommunity Tailgate Party at Homer Scott Stadium. Food, beverages, giveaways and lots of fun. The first 350 kids in the gate receive a free game souvenir. It all starts at 5 o’clock.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc volleyball team hosts Cody this evening. The varsity match is scheduled to start at 5:15 tomorrow. The Lady Broncs host another conference match with Riverton starting at 1:15.

The Big Horn Lady Rams are ranked number one in Class 2-A volleyball this week. They play in Moorcroft today, and play in the Basin / Greybull Tournament tomorrow.

The Tongue River Lady Eagles are ranked 5th in this week’s Class 2-A volleyball poll. They play today and tomorrow at the Basin / Greybull tournament.

The Sheridan College Lady Generals lost a four game match at Casper College last night. Wednesday they go on the road for matches at Eastern Wyoming and Laramie County.. The Lady Generals next home match isn’t until October 20th.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc swimmers and divers host a double conference dual meet today with the Casper schools. The action gets underway at 4 o’clock at the Sheridan Junior High Pool.
The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc cross-country runners are on the road today, competing at an invitational over in Worland.

The State High School Tennis Championships start later this morning in Cheyenne. The Lady Broncs should be one of the title contenders. To follow along with all the action, follow the link to the Wyoming High School Activities Association website for up-to-date results.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc volleyball team will play at home tomorrow for the first time since August 31st. Tomorrow the Lady Broncs host Cody in their Homecoming match. The Varsity match is scheduled to get underway at 5:15. Coach Wendy Mader says the players have done a good job of moving on since the Varsity coaching change two weeks ago. The Lady Broncs will also play at home Saturday afternoon against Riverton. The Varsity match is scheduled to start at 1:15. The Sheridan Lady Bronc swimmers and divers will host Casper Natrona and Kelly Walsh in a double dual at the Sheridan Junior High pool. The meet will start at 4 o’clock.

The Sheridan High School cross-country teams will run at the Worland Invitational tomorrow. Head coach Art Bauers says they had a great turn out of underclassmen for both the boys and girls teams this fall, and that those young runners are doing a great job Next week both teams run at an invitational in Loveland, Colorado. That meet will also end the regular season. The North 4-A cross-country regionals will be held in Riverton October 13th, with the State meet scheduled for Cheyenne, October 21st.

In high school football action tomorrow, the Big Horn Rams travel for more road action at Moorcroft. The Rams are 2-2 overall, and the good news for the Rams and their fans: after the game with Moorcroft tomorrow, the Rams will play three straight at home.

The Tongue River Eagles are ranked 2nd in the class 3-A Power Poll behind Mountain View. The Eagles are 4-0 and have allowed only one touchdown during the streak. Tomorrow the Eagles will get a stern test from their Big Horn Basin rival, Lovell. The Eagles and Bulldogs kickoff tomorrow in Dayton at 2 o’clock, and we will broadcast the game for you live on am 14-10 KWYO.

The Sheridan Broncs need to right the ship. The Broncs have dropped two straight since starting the season 3-0, and they are up against a tough opponent tomorrow as they host the defending Class 5-A State Champs from Cheyenne Central. Kickoff tomorrow night is at 7 o’clock and you can hear it live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

Also join us all out at Homer Scott Stadium prior to the game for a big community Homecoming Tailgate Party. There will be food and giveaways, and all kids coming into the ball game will receive either a Nerf football or Mini Megaphone. All the fun will start at 5 o’clock. Sheridan Media will be their broadcasting live during all the fun, right up until kickoff at 7 o’clock.

The Wyoming Cowboys will try and heal up on the road Saturday. Since opening the season winning against Utah State, the Pokes have lost three close games in a row. Saturday the Pokes play at Syracuse, and a reminder - it’s an early start Saturday morning. The Pre-Game show will start at 10:30, with kickoff at 11:30 live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

No Denver Bronco game this week. The Broncos have their bi week, and will get back into action on Monday night, October 9th against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc golfers pulled off a come back during second round play at the Powder Horn yesterday, and won the first Girls State Team Golf Championship in Sheridan High School history. The tournament came right down to the final score posted for Casper Kelly Walsh, KW held a four shot lead over the lady Broncs going into the second round, and Boedecker says that each team member went out and played great. The Lady Broncs ended up making a seven shot swing on day two, winning the title by three shots over Kelly. Boedecker finished 5th overall, and teammate Leah Tenney tied for ninth as both players earned All State honors. Rachel Ryan was 12th, Alli Brayton was 15th and sophomore Amanda Benepe finished 39th, right in the middle of the pack. Coach Larry Martoglo was happy for the players, it was quite a battle all season long for the top four teams.

The Boys Title was won by Cheyenne Central by 18 shots over second place. Cody Evanston was 3rd, Green River was 4th and Rock Springs finished 5th. The Boys Overall Champ was Klint Krieger from Cheyenne Central, who finished with a two days total of three under par 141 with rounds of 69 and 72. The Sheridan Broncs finished 12th - the Broncs’ top finisher was Robbie Burnaugh who tied for 25th place.

In other local action, it’s Homecoming Week at Sheridan High School. The Sheridan Lady Bronc volleyball team will open the festivities Friday, hosting a conference match with Cody. The Lady Broncs have had their battles over the years with Cody, and coach Wendy Mader says this year is no different  The varsity match is scheduled to get underway at 5:15.

Sheridan Media, along with a host of other sponsors, will host a Homecoming Fans Tailgate Party Friday evening prior to the Broncs football game with Cheyenne Central. There will be lots of food, and the first 350 kids through the gate at Homer Scott Stadium will receive a Nerf football or Mini Megaphone. All the fun starts at 5 o’clock.

The Sheridan Bronc football team is trying to shake off the effects of last week’s performance at Cody, as the Broncs were upset on the road 10-7. Friday is going to be really tough as Cheyenne Central comes into Sheridan for the Broncs Homecoming Game. Central has lost twice this season ,both were close games with Casper Kelly Walsh and Natrona. Sheridan head coach Tim Leroy says it was back to business for the Broncs Monday and Tuesday, and the Broncs are in for a great challenge Friday night. We will broadcast the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO, kickoff is at 7 o’clock.

In other football notes this week, the Big Horn Rams will play on the road Friday. The game in Moorcroft will be the Rams’ final road game of the regular season. They end the regular season hosting three straight at Jack Dow Memorial Field.

The Tongue River Eagles remain ranked 2nd this week in the latest class 3-A Power Poll. The Eagles will play at home Friday afternoon. They have not allowed a point in their last three games, and only one touchdown in their first four games. Friday afternoon the Eagles host a very good Lovell team. Kickoff is at 2 o’clock in Dayton. The game will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Sheridan High School cross-country teams will run at an Invitational in Worland, Friday. They only have two regular season meets left on their schedule.
 
The Lady Bronc swimmers and divers will host a double conference dual with the Casper schools Friday starting at 4 o’clock.

The Sheridan College Lady Generals volleyball team plays at Casper Thursday night, then three more road Wyoming Conference matches before returning home to the Hoffman Dome for five in a row beginning October 20th.

The Tongue River Lady Eagles volleyball team will play at the Basin / Greybull Invitational Tournament Friday and Saturday. The Big Horn Lady Rams play at Moorcroft with the football team Friday, and then over to the Basin / Greybull Tournament Saturday.

Wet course conditions and cold temperatures forced the Powder Horn to cancel the State 4-A Golf Tournament set for last Friday and Saturday. All the teams were back in Sheridan yesterday to resume the action. After day one, the Kelly Walsh girls lead a tight race, with 4 teams within striking distance. The Sheridan Lady Broncs are tied for 2nd place, with Gillette four shots off the team lead. Cody is 4th, nine back with Natrona County 5th, 13 shots off the lead in the Individual Standings for the Lady Broncs. Kelsey Boedecker and Leah Tenney are 8th and 9th respectively, Rachel Ryan and Alli Brayton are tied for 12th, and Amanda Benepe is in 37th place. The first round leader is Kelsey Podlesny from Green River. She was the only girls player to shoot in the 70’s, her first round three over par 75 leads second place by seven shots.

In the boys race for the State Title, Cody leads Cheyenne Central by three shots, with Evanston third, 14 shots back. Mike May from Rock Springs leads after day one with a first round 4 under par 68. Second place is Klinton Kreiger from Cheyenne Central one shot back, posting a 69. One other player was under par yesterday, Clinton Boutelle from Gillette with a 2 under par 70. The Sheridan Broncs sit in 12th place as the second round gets under way. Robbie Burnaugh is in 32nd place, CJ Golay is 38th, Sam Suzor 42nd, with Danny Mediate and Kyle Kiser tied for 58th. The final round gets underway this morning at 9:30.

The Tongue River High School golfers are celebrating the school’s first State Golf Championship this week after blowing the field away at the 2-A State Tournament in Sundance. Eagles coach Gene Schuereman says the players capped off a great year in fine fashion, and winning a State Championship in any sport is very special for high school players and even their coaches.

In other golf notes today:
Coming up Sunday is a fun golf tournament for all Sheridan County golfers. It will take place at the Powder Horn as Rock Sathre hosts his third annual “Oktoberfest Golf Tournament.” The event will be played Sunday. The format is two person teams, teams will play 27 holes with a different format on each  nine, they’ll play a scramble, best ball and alternate shot. A shotgun start will begin play Sunday morning at 9:30, and an “Oktoberfest” lunch will follow play. To sign up, call or stop by the Golf Shop at the Powder Horn

Four venues are being used in Cheyenne this week to host the 2006 State High School Tennis Championships. First round play opens Thursday. Matches will be played at Cheyenne east and Central High Schoo,. also the Cheyenne Country Club, and at Holiday Park. Sheridan High School coach Lorna Brooks says they are pleased at the seedings they got for the first round. First round pairings are set for Thursday, and Brooks says it’s a great advantage to have a few days to prepare for their first round opponents.

Sheridan High School cross-country teams will run at Worland, Friday. Coach Art Bauers says with the conference meet just three weeks away, the race for the conference  title should be exciting.

It’s homecoming week at Sheridan High School. Volleyball and football highlight Friday’s activities  at Sheridan High School, including a community Tailgate party at Homer Scott Stadium. Prior to the Bronc game with Cheyenne Central, the Tailgate party will open at the stadium at 5 o’clock. The first 350 kids through the gate will receive either a Nerf football or Mega phone. Kickoff with Cheyenne Central is set for 7 o’clock

The L:ady Bronc volleyball team will host Cody, Friday evening. The Varsity match is scheduled to start at 5:15. Saturday, the Lady Broncs host Riverton at 1:15.

The Tongue River Eagles football team playS their final regular season home game Friday against Lovel, while the Big Horn Rams will play their final road game of the regular season Friday at Moorcroft. Following games this week, Tongue River will play three straight on the road, while Big Horn will close out the regular season with three in a row home.

The Wyoming Cowboys football team is reeling after dropping their third straight game. After two weeks in a row at home, the Pokes head back East this week to take on Syracuse. The game will be played Saturday in Syracuse, New York. You ‘ll be able to hear the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Iit’s an early start Saturday - the Pregame Show will start at 10:30 in the morning, with kickoff scheduled for 11:30.

EAGLES MOVE TO 4-0 AS THEY SHUTOUT ANOTHER OPPONENT - Chalk up another win for the undefeated Tongue River Eagles football team as they continue their domination in class 3A. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter recaps the action from over the weekend:Audio.

 

The Tongue River Eagles won the their first State Golf Title event Saturday, outdistancing second place Wright by 34 strokes to win the class 2-A State Championship in Sundance. Eagles coach Gene Schuereman says they had a big lead after the first round and cruised to the win on Saturday, and  most importantly was how they played in poor weather conditions. Four Eagles placed in the top ten. Craig Bossfeld was 4th, Michael Robinson was 5th, John Fuller was 7th and Lucas Carr finished 10th.

The class 4-A State Golf Tournament was called off Friday at the Powder Horn because of the wet conditions. All the teams will be back in Sheridan today to open the first round this morning at 9:30. Round two will take place tomorrow.

In football action, the Big Horn Rams shutout Rocky Mtn. 27-0 to run even their overall record to 2 and 2. The Rams play their final regular season road game at Moorcroft Friday. Following that game they finish the regular season with three straight at home.

The Tongue River Eagles got their third straight shut-out win Friday over Glenrock. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the wrap up of the eagles latest win (see Eagles Recap above.)

It was a stunning loss for the Sheridan Broncs at Cod0,y Friday night. Sheridan needed a good performance after being shut out by Kelly Walsh the week before, and looked to the Cody game as a way to get back in the winning track. However, they forgot to tell Cody to lay down for them, and the other Broncs scored a 10-7 win over Sheridan. The Broncs play at home Friday night against the defending State Champions from Cheyenne Central. Kickoff is at 7 o’clock.

The class 4-A North Regional Tennis Tournament was rained out over the weekend. The tournament was scheduled for Cody and is used for seeding the players for this week’s State Tournament. All the coaches got together and decided to use their regular season results to seed the north players instead of re-scheduling the tournament. The State Championships open in Cheyenne, Thursday and there would not be enough time to get all the teams together to make up the Regional matches.

The Lady Bronc swimmers and divers competed in Cheyenne over the weekend. Head coach Larry White says they had a pretty good dual meet with Cheyenne East. They placed 6th in the Cheyenne Invitational Saturday, and White says it was the first big test for the Lady Bronc divers. The Lady Broncs host their Homecoming dual with Casper Natrona Friday at 4 o’clock.

The Sheridan High School cross-country runners had their meet in Rapid City cancelled Friday but they made a quick call and got into the Thermopolis Invitational. The Lady Broncs finished 2nd, and the Broncs finished 3rd. Ryan Sorenson won the boys race for the Broncs, Lela Carpenter was the Lady Bronc top finisher in 2nd place. Head coach Art Bauers says since a poor showing three weeks ago at a race in Gillette, both teams have really turned their seasons around. This week the Broncs and Lady Broncs run at an invitational in Worland.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc volleyball team competed in the Casper Invitational over the weekend. They made it to the semi finals in their bracket before losing to Cheyenne East. This week the Lady Broncs have home matches Friday night against Cody, and Saturday afternoon against Riverton.

The Big Horn Lady Rams volleyball team improved to 13-4 overall, with two wins over the weekend. They beat Sundance Friday, and Wright Saturday.

The Tongue River girls also got wins over Wright and Sundance. This weekend the Lady Eagles will play at a tournament hosted by Greybull and Riverside high schools.

The State Golf Championships get underway at the Powder Horn today. Sheridan High School golf coach Larry Martoglio says the Lady Broncs will be one of the contenders this weekend. As for the Broncs, they have an inexperienced team going into the tournament, but Martoglio says the players have been patient and have gotten better throughout the season. The weather forecast looks to be pretty nasty for these young golfers. Tee times today begin at 9:30, with the same schedule for tomorrow.

The weather could definitely be a factor today in Cody, where the Sheridan High School tennis teams are joining the rest of the North Conference teams for their Regional Tournament. Sheridan tennis coach Lorna Brooks says the Lady Broncs will be right in the hunt for the Regional Title. The Broncs have a young team, but the players have worked hard to improve. Following play this weekend, the State Tennis Tournament will open next Thursday in Cheyenne.

In high school football action today, the Big Horn Rams and Sheridan Broncs will play games tonight in the Big Horn Basin. The Rams will play at Rocky Mtn. While the Broncs play in Cody, the Broncs are coming off last week’s loss at the hands of Cody. Coach Tim Leroy says the players responded in a good fashion this week, and are ready to go. Not a whole lot of good things happened for the Broncs against Kelly, and Leroy says they plan on getting that running game going early. Kickoff tonight is at 7 o’clock. The Tongue River Eagles go after their fourth consecutive victory this afternoon. The game kicks off at 2 o’clock in Dayton, and can be heard live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc swimmers and divers have a meet in Cheyenne today, and they stay over and compete in the annual Cheyenne Invitational Tournament.

The Sheridan High School cross-country teams will be on the road later today. They travel to compete in the Rapid City Invitational.

In volleyball, the Sheridan Lady Broncs will be in Casper today and tomorrow for the Casper Invitational, and the Sheridan College Lady Generals are also on the road this weekend participating in the Wyo-Nebraska shoot-out in Torrington and Scotts Bluff.

Tomorrow after the Wyoming Cowboys open Mountain West Conference play against the Air Force Academy. You can hear the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO.  Ptre-game starts at 1:30, kickoff in Laramie is set for 2:30.

The Bronc and Lady Bronc tennis teams had road matches at Cody and Powell washed out last week, so they’ll head over to the Big Horn Basin today to finish off the regular season. The regional tournament starts tomorrow. After the weekend, the tennis season will end next week at the State Tournament in Cheyenne.

High school golfers will tee it up today at the Powder Horn for a practice round before the State Championships open tomorrow. Powder Horn head professional Mark Metzger is excited to have the State Tournament at their facility. The course should provide a good test for all the players. Players will be going off double tees tomorrow at 9:30. The same schedule is set for Saturday. Spectators are welcome just report to the Club House, and you will be directed to the viewing areas.

In other golf notes, the Sheridan Country Club will host their season-ending Fall Classic. All players in Sheridan County are invited to play in the tournament. It’s a two-day two-person team event. Teams play nine holes scramble and nine holes best ball both days. Saturday shot-gun will be at 1 o’clock Sunday at noon. To register a team, contact the Golf Shop.

Next Sunday, October 1st Rock Sathre will host his third annual “Oktoberfest” Golf Tournament at the Powder Horn. It’s a two-person team event. Players will play all 27 holes, with a different format on each nine. An Oktoberfest lunch will follow play, including beer and brauts. To sign up, stop by or call the Powder Horn Golf Shop.

The Tongue River Eagles are 3-0, and go after their 4th straight win tomorrow at home against Glenrock. Eagles head coach Chuck Walters says the Eagles’ defense will have to stay focused because the Herders do some interesting things on the field Kickoff tomorrow is at 2 o’clock. The Big Horn Rams are 1-2 coming off last weeks disappointing 10-6 loss against Riverside tomorrow. The Rams play at Rocky Mtn. Head coach Bob St. John says the Rams didn’t play all that bad last week, and the players did a good job of re-focusing this week.

The Sheridan Broncs, like the Rams, are coming off a loss. The Broncs were shut out 40-0 last week against Casper Kelly Walsh. Coach Tim Leroy says the players reacted to the loss in a positive manner and worked hard in practice to get themselves ready for tomorrow night’s game at cody. We will have the game live for you tomorrow night on AM 14-10 KWYO Pre Game starts the broadcast at 6:30. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 o’clock.

The Bronc JV’s will play a home game Saturday against Buffalo. The game will be played at Homer Scott Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 o’clock.

In other action this weekend, the Sheridan Lady Bronc volleyball team plays at a tournament in Casper starting tomorrow.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc swimmers and divers will be on the road as well this weekend. They have a meet with the Cheyenne schools tomorrow, and compete in the Cheyenne Invitational Saturday.

The Wyoming Cowboys play at home Saturday afternoon against the Air Force Academy live on KWYO at 2:30.

The Denver Broncos play the Sunday Night game this week at New England. It will also be broadcast live on KWYO starting at 5 o’clock.

The State High School Golf Championships will be played Friday and Saturday at the Powder Horn Sheridan High School head coach Larry Martoglio says both the Broncs and Lady Broncs have been getting in good practice time this week in preparation for the first round. The Powder Horn is a great venue for all the players to experience championship golf. Over 100 players are expected to tee it up Friday morning.

The Sheridan Country Club will host their season-ending golf tournament this week. The Country Club will hold the 2006 Fall Classic Golf Tournament Saturday and Sunday. The tournament is open to all golfers in Sheridan. Country Club president Tim Barnes says it’s a fun event. It’s a two-person team event, teams will play nine holes, scramble, and nine holes best ball each day. First round play is Saturday, with a shotgun start at 1 o’clock. Hors d’ ourves and Calcutta follow play Saturday. Sunday’s shotgun start will be at noon. Stop by or call the Country Club Pro Shop to enter.
 
Sunday, October 1st Rock Sathre is hosting his annual Oktoberfest Golf Tournament at the Powder Horn. It’s a fun event, aka “Rocktoberfest.”  Two-person teams will play all 27 holes at the Powder Horn, using a different format for each nine, scramble, best ball and alternate shot. The tournament is open all levels of handicap for men and women. Contact the Powder Horn to register. Again, the annual “Rocktoberfest” Golf Tournament at the Powder Horn will start at 9:30 Sunday morning, October 1st. The traditional Beer and Braut “Oktoberfest” lunch will follow play.

The Big Horn Rams are 1-2 as they head back out onto the road Friday to Byron, to take on the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies. The Rams know they’ve got a good challenge ahead of them.

The Tongue River Eagles go after their fourth consecutive win Friday. It’s Homecoming Week in Dayton as the Eagles prepare to host the Glenrock Herders. Eagles’ head coach Chuck Walters says their schedule toughens up after winning three straight to start the season. Kickoff in Dayton is scheduled for 2 o’clock, and you can hear the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Sheridan Broncs are in re-group mode this week after last Friday’s debacle against Casper Kelly Walsh. The Broncs will play at Cody Friday night. Head coach Tim Leroy says the Broncs got a wake-up call from Kelly Walsh last week. Kickoff is set for 7 o’clock, and we will have all the action live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Wyoming Cowboys are 1-2. The Pokes have the Nation’s third ranked Defense, so it’s on the Offense this week to get the team back on track after back-to-back losses. The Pokes open Mountain West Conference play Saturday at home against the Air Force Academy. Kickoff is at 2:30 live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Denver Broncos are 1-1. Sunday, the Broncos play the night game at New England. The game will also be broadcast live on KWYO, starting with the Bronco Locker Room Show at 5:30.

In other local action this week, the Sheridan High School tennis teams play at their regional event in Riverton. The tennis season ends next week with the State Championships in Cheyenne.

The Lady Bronc swimmers and divers have two meets in Cheyenne, Friday and Saturday.

The Bronc and Lady Bronc cross-country runners compete at an Invitational in Rapid City, Friday.

The Lady Bronc volleyball team will play at the Casper Invitational Tournament Friday and Saturday, and the Sheridan College Lady Generals volleyball team will play at the annual Wyo-Nebaska Shoot-out Tournament in Torrington Scottsbluff, Thursday through Saturday. The next home date for the Lady Generals isn’t until October 20th.

Last Wednesday now-former Sheridan head volleyball coach Sheri Hobbs resigned her position, leaving the Lady Broncs without a head coach. Assistants took them over to Gillette last Thursday, and they got a big conference win. The Lady Broncs will play at a tournament in Casper this weekend.

Some encouraging news from Sheridan High School: the number of students participating in activities is up this Fall, and Racette says that’s really good news.

There is a new proposal out that will be considered by the Wyoming High School Activities Association Board at their September meeting next week. That proposal is for all five high school football championship games to be played at War Memorial Stadium at the University of Wyoming. The next meeting of the State Activities Board will be in Casper September 26th and 27th. A decision is expected at that time. All  State Championship games are scheduled for Saturday, November 11th..

In other activities this week, the Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc cross-country teams both won the Michelle Ludwig Invitational this past weekend. This week it’s back on the road for a meet in Rapid City Friday. Art Bauers says this will be another in a long line of great challenges for the Sheridan runners.

The Lady Bronc swimmers and divers will compete in two meets down in Cheyenne Friday and Saturday, with less than a month left in the season before the conference meet. Head coach Larry White says the girls are starting to ramp-up their work-outs. The Lady Broncs will have their next home meet on the 29th when they host the Casper schools in a double conference dual meet.

In other local action this week, the Powder Horn will host the State Golf Championships. Day one of the two-day event will open Friday morning.

The Sheridan High School tennis teams will be in Riverton Friday and Saturday for their Regional Tournament. The State Championships will be in Cheyenne next weekend.

In football action this week, the Sheridan Broncs and Big Horn Rams will both play road games over in the Big Horn Basin, while Tongue River High School is hosting Glenrock. In the Eagles’ Homecoming Game, the Rams will play at Rocky Mtn. Friday ,while the Broncs play at Cody, Friday night. The Eagles play Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock against Glenrock.

The Wyoming Cowboys play their second straight home game Saturday against the Air Force Academy in their Mountain West Conference Opener, and the Denver Broncs will play on the road Sunday evening against the New England Patriots.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc cross country teams hosted the Michelle Ludwig Invitational in the rain Saturday .Both the Broncs and Lady Broncs took the over-all team titles. Six Broncs finished in the top 20 with Ryan Sorenson winning the Individual Title, Conner Board was 6th, Drew Stafford was 11th, Vance Swett was 13th, John Rottelini was 18th and James Jennings was 20th. For the Lady Broncs, Lela Carpenter finished 2nd, seven Lady Broncs finished in the top 20, Emily Bobinchak was 6th, Dana Morin was 9th, Audrey Newlon was 13th, Erica Roman was 15th, Heather Schmidt was 16th, and Jessica Harrelson was 20th. Bauers says all the runners can use this meet as a jump start to the rest of their season. This week the Broncs and Lady Broncs run at an Invitational over in Rapid City.

In Friday’s football action:
The Big Horn Rams football team fell to 1-2 on the season after dropping a tough game to Riverside Friday afternoon. In Big Horn, the Rebels held off a late Rams drive to win the game 10-6. The Rams play at Rock Mtn. Friday.

It was a battle of unbeatens at  Homer Scott Stadium Friday night, but only one team showed up and that was a bad thing for the Sheridan Broncs as they committed nine turnovers. Casper Kelly Walsh routed the Broncs 40-0 after leading 19-0 at the half. Kelly put the game away with two more scores in the 3rd quarter. The Broncs will play a road game at Cody Friday night.

The Tongue River Eagles continue to roll Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the aftermath of the Eagles third straight win.

The NSI Wolves fell to 0-2 on the season after being shut out at Shoshoni 18-0.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc swimmers and divers finished in the middle of the pack at the Riverton Invitational over the weekend. The meet featured all the top 4-a teams in the State. Head coach Larry White says they are close to getting a couple more team members qualified for the state championships. White says it was a pretty good weekend overall for the Lady Broncs. This weekend the Lady Broncs will be on the road for two meets down in Cheyenne.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc volleyball team lost their head coach last week when Cheri Hobbs resigned her position Wednesday evening. The Lady Broncs then went out on the road and beat Gillette Thursday, and backed that up with another victory at Worland this week. The Lady Broncs will play in Casper during the Casper Invitational Tournament.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc golfers had the weekend off this week. The State Championships will end the fall golf season at the Powder Horn. The State Tournament will open Friday and conclude Saturday.

Sheri Hobbs resigned as the Sheridan Lady Bronc volleyball coach Wednesday evening. Sheridan School District Two Activities Director Tom Racette says the resignation was stunning. The Lady Broncs played in Gillette last night and beat the Camels in five games. They travel tomorrow for a match in Worland. Hobbs was not available for comment yesterday. Racette stated “she left the program for personal reasons.”

Lots of football action around Sheridan County today. In Big Horn, the Rams host a very good Riverside ball club. The Rebels are 2-0, the Rams 1-1. Kick off is set for 1 o’clock.

The Tongue River Eagles host the Thermopolis Bobcats this afternoon. The Cats are winless in two games. The Eagles are 2-0 and have given up only six points this season, while Thermopolis has not scored in their two losses. Being a big favorite has it’s advantages, but head coach Chuck Walters says even though the Eagles have dominated in their first two games, they still have work to do on certain areas. Kickoff is at 2 o’clock and will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO. We will also have live in game updates from the Big Horn game during the broadcast.

The Sheridan Broncs are 3-0. Kelly Walsh is 2-0. Both KW wins are against the two teams that played for the State Title last year - Cheyenne Central and Cheyenne East. As the teams meet tonight at Homer Scott Stadium, the Broncs are on a great roll, and head coach Tim Leroy says it’s great to have that buzz back around the Bronc football program. And Leroy says Laramie was tough last week, and Kelly Walsh will also provide a great challenge for the Broncs tonight. Kickoff tonight is at 7 o’clock, live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc cross-country teams will host the Michelle Ludwig Invitational tomorrow. Sheridan coach Art Bauers says this year’s event should be very competitive. The meet will be run tomorrow on the grounds at the VA. The Junior High race will start at 10 o’clock. The high school races will begin at 11..

The Sheridan Lady Bronc swimmers and divers will compete in a meet later today in Riverton, then spend the day tomorrow competing in the Riverton Invitational. All the class 4-A teams will compete in this meet.

Tomorrow the Wyoming Cowboys host Boise State. The Broncos are really good again this year, and are coming off a 42-14 rout of Oregon State last week. The Sheridan Lady Bronc volleyball team will play a conference match in Gillette this evening. The Lady Broncs will play at Worland, Saturday. They’re next home dates are the 29th and 30th.

Dave Walsh was in Sheridan yesterday as a guest of the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce at the Chamber’s Monthly Luncheon. Walsh has been on the air broadcasting University of Wyoming football and basketball for the past 23 seasons, and says he’s still having a great time. You’ll be able to hear Walsh and side kick Kevin McKinney on our next Cowboy Football Broadcast Saturday afternoon, live on AM 14-10 KWYO, when the Cowboys take on Boise State. Kickoff in Laramie is set for 1:30.

In other action, tomorrow the Sheridan Lady Bronc swimmers and divers will get a tune-up before competing in the big Riverton Invitational, Saturday.

The Bronc and Lady Bronc tennis teams took on Casper Kelly Walsh in Conference Matches at Sheridan High School yesterday. The Lady Broncs took the dual handily, with the Broncs dropping a 3-2 decision to the Trojans.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc volleyball team has a big north conference match tomorrow night at Gillette. The Lady Broncs will play on the road at Worland on Saturday. The next home matches won’t be until the 29th and 30th, when they host Cody and Riverton.

The voice of the Wyoming Cowboys, Dave Walsh will be in Sheridan today to speak at the monthly Chamber Of Commerce Luncheon at the Sheridan Holiday Inn, Walsh will be talking about his experiences at the University as a broadcaster of Cowboy football and basketball for the last 23 years. I talked with Walsh before the Cowboy football game last Saturday in Charlottesville, Virginia. He says that with the State stepping up, and private donors doing the same, new facilities are springing up all over the UW Campus, which means a better tool for coaches  recruiting student athletes to Laramie. Walsh will speak at today’s luncheon at noon. Attendees must pay for their lunch, but admission to Walsh’s program is free.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc golfers are taking this weekend off from competition to prepare for next week’s State Tournament, which will be played at the Powder Horn. The State Championships will be played at the Powder Horn next Friday and Saturday.

The Sheridan High School cross-country teams will host the annual Michelle Ludwig Invitational, Saturday. The meet will be held on the grounds of the VA Medical Center.. The Junior High race will begin at 10 AM, with the high school runners going off at 11 o’clock. This is a bounce-back week for the Broncs after a low finish last week in Gillette. This week will be the first race in four weeks for the Lady Broncs to enter a full compliment of runners.

In local football action this week, it will be a battle of unbeaten 5-A teams when Kelly Walsh shows up in Sheridan for a big early season showdown with the Broncs. Head coach Tim Leroy says the players have been relaxed and very business-like over the last three weeks. Kelly Walsh comes into Friday’s game 2-0 with victories over both teams in last year’s State Title game, Cheyenne Central and Cheyenne East. Kelly Walsh is ranked 2nd in the class 5-A poll this week, with the Broncs in the 4th spot. Kickoff is set for 7 o’clock Friday night at Homer Scott Stadium.

The Big Horn Rams and Tongue River Eagles will play at home Friday as well. The Rams will host Riverside at 1 o’clock, while the Eagles will play Thermopolis. Kickoff in Dayton will be at 2 o’clock. The Lady Bronc swimmers and divers will compete in a dual meet in Buffalo. This weekend the Lady Broncs have two meets scheduled in Riverton Friday and Saturday.

The Bronc and Lady Bronc tennis teams host conference matches this afternoon against Casper. Kelly Walsh head coach Lorna Brooks expects both teams to do well, and Brooks has been impressed with the improvement of all the players.

The Bronc and Lady Bronc golfers will have the week off. This week they were scheduled to play at the Laramie Invitational, but elected to sit this one out because the Powder Horn will host the State Tournament next week, and a week off will give both teams more practice. At the State Tournament Track, the Lady Broncs have won two straight tournaments, and the Broncs have shown a lot of improvement. The State Tournament will be played at the Powder Horn, September 22nd and 23rd.

The Bronc and Lady Bronc cross country teams host the Michelle Ludwig Invitational Saturday. Sheridan High School head cross-country coach Art Bauers says this year’s Ludwig race should be very competitive.

The Bronc defense has a new nickname this year: “The Black Shirts.”  It’s taken from the University of Nebraska defensive unit, and in the last two games the Black Shirts have given up 7 points in the last eight quarters, and only three touchdowns in three games. One of the Black Shirts is Junior linebacker Firdose Kahn. Kahn says it was a complete team win last Friday in Laramie, with the defense getting the big stop and the offense finishing the game off in the final minute. The Broncs host Casper Kelly Walsh, Friday night at Homer Scott Stadium.

The Tongue River Eagles and Big Horn Rams play at home Friday as well. The Rams are 1-1 coming off their first win at Wright. They host a very good Riverside team Friday afternoon. The Eagles are 2-0 and have allowed only six points in two games. They host Thermopolis on Friday.

The Wyoming Cowboys are back in Laramie Saturday for a home game against Boise State. Kickoff will be at 1:30. Sunday the Denver Broncos will try to bounce back after a horrible performance at St. Louis last weekend. They host Kansas City, Sunday afternoon

All three Sheridan County football teams won Friday night. Tongue River made it two straight victories shutting out Newcastle 23-0 the Eagles host Thermopolis Friday afternoon

The Big Horn Rams picked up win number one beating Wright 36-28 the Rams host Riverside Friday and head coach Bob St. John says winning at Wright makes this week a lot more positive as they get ready to face the rebels.

The Sheridan Broncs came from behind in the 4th quarter picking up two touchdowns to beat Laramie 19-13 the game winning score came with :50 seconds to play in regulation. With the Broncs down 13-6 Josh Dunkelberger scored on a 1 yard run to tie the game at 13 with 8:45 seconds left in to play, before the offense got the ball back, the defense made a great stand and forced a bad punt to give the Bronc offense the ball on the Laramie 12 yard line and on the next play the Broncs hit pay dirt head coach Tim LeRoy says the players showed a lot of guts to come back and get the win. The Broncs are back at home Friday night when they host Casper Kelly Walsh.

The Wyoming Cowboys lost a heart breaker at Virginia Saturday losing 14-13 in overtime after a missed extra point the Pokes are 1-1 and will host a game with Boise State Saturday in Laramie.

Just as they did last season the Denver Broncos laid an egg in the season opener yesterday losing at St. Louis 18-10 this week the Broncos play Kansas City.

In other local action the Sheridan cross country teams competed at a meet in Gillette it was a rough day for the Broncs. Head coach Art Bauers says it was a little better for the girls. This week the Broncs and Lady Broncs host the Michelle Ludwig Sheridan Invitational the race will be held Saturday on the grounds of the VA Medical Center.

The Lady Bronc swimmers and divers dropped a home dual meet against Gillette the Camels took the dual 129-56 the Lady Broncs swim at Buffalo tomorrow and this weekend they have a dual at Riverton Friday evening and will compete in the Riverton Invitational meet Saturday.

The Lady Bronc volleyball team split conference road matches over the weekend they beat Riverton and lost against Cody the Lady Broncs play at Gillette Thursday night and on the road at Worland Saturday.

At the Big Horn Invitational tournament the Lady Rams went 4-0 and the Tongue River Lady Eagles went 3-1.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc golfers won the Buffalo Invitational for their second consecutive win Kelsey Boedecker led the way for the Lady Broncs finishing second overall Rachel Ryan finished 5th Alli Brayton finished 8th and Leah Tenney finished tied for 9th. The Broncs placed 3rd as a team CJ Golay was the Broncs top finisher he ended up in 7th place this week the Broncs and Lady Bronc compete at an invitational in Laramie the state tournament will be held at the Powder Horn in two weeks.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc tennis team ran their record to 3-1 on the season with a 3 match to 2 win over conference rival Gillette yesterday. The Broncs fell to 1-2 on the season as Gillette won the dual yesterday 5-0. Tomorrow both teams will host matches with the Cheyenne schools. Matches with East and Central will take place tomorrow at 9 AM and 12:30 at Sheridan High School.

The NSI Wolves football team is idle this week. Our three other Sheridan County teams will all play road games tonight.

The Big Horn Rams are coming off last week’s loss at Tongue River. Head coach Bob St. John says that was a learning experience for his young team. The Rams play at Wright tonight. The Panthers were shut out last week by Burns, and St. John says they expect a tough battle in Wright this evening.

After opening the season at home with Big Horn, the Tongue River Eagles play at Newcastle tonight.

The Sheridan Broncs go after three straight wins tonight, with a big test against Laramie. The Plainsmen lost their Home Opener last week against Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Broncs running back Hosh Dunkelberger has rushed for 418 yards on 75 carries in the Broncs’ first two games. Leroy says they must change that trend and become a more balanced offensive unit --  something they’ll try and get done tonight. We will broadcast tonight’s game live for you on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc tennis teams play home conference matches this afternoon against Gillette. The Lady Broncs are 2-1 on the season, with the Broncs sitting at 1-1. The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc tennis teams host conference matches tomorrow with Gillette. The Broncs are 1-1 on the season and have a young but talented group of players this year. The Lady Broncs are 2-1 over all, and much like the Broncs, have a lot of inexperienced players but have played well in their first three outings. Varsity matches begin tomorrow at 3 o’clock at Sheridan High School. All IV matches will be played either at the Thorne-Rider Park Courts or at the YMCA.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc swimmers and divers will host a conference dual with Gillette Friday evening. Head coach Larry White says they’re having a good season so far. And their many underclassmen are learning a lot in a short period of time. White also says a great addition to this year’s team is a full compliment of divers. The dual with Gillette will start Friday at 5 o’clock at the Sheridan Junior High Pool.

The Bronc and Lady Bronc cross country runners will compete at a meet over in Gillette fray afternoon. Head coach Art Bauers says for the first time this fall both teams will be at full strength. And Bauers expects great competition in this meet.
In other local action this week, the Sheridan High School golfers will play at the Buffalo Invitational Friday and Saturday. They have two tournaments left before they host the State Championships at the Powder Horn in three weeks.
The Sheridan College Lady Generals volleyball team will play in a tournament at Western Montana College in Dillon this weekend. They ‘ll play their next home match next week, Thursday the 14th against Western Wyoming.
In football action, three of our Sheridan county teams will be on the road Friday with NSI idle. The Wolves will play next week at Shoshoni. The Big Horn Rams will play a league game at Wright Friday night with the Tongue River Eagles at Newcastle. The Sheridan Broncs go after their third straight win at Laramie Friday night.

The latest high school football rankings are out. Big Horn, Tongue River and the Sheridan Broncs are all in the top five in their respective classes. The Rams fell from number one to number four this week after their loss at Tongue River. The Eagles are listed at number four this week in the tough 3-A Division, and the Sheridan Broncs make it into the 5th spot in the Class 5-A poll with two consecutive wins to start the season.
The Wyoming Cowboys will try and get it done on the road this week as they travel across the country to play at Virginia Saturday afternoon.
The Denver Broncos open the NFL regular season at St. Louis Sunday.

The Sheridan Broncs are 2-0 after shutting out Miles City 18-0 Friday night. It was another impressive night for the Broncs’ running game. For the second straight week Josh Dunkelberg went for over 200 yards. Dunkelberger says after starting slow in the first half, the offense made the right moves at halftime and got rolling in the second half. The Bronc defense held the Cowboys to under 100 total yards. Head coach Tim Leroy said they had a good game plan and stuck to it. Now it’s on the road to Laramie for their first real big test of the season.

The Tongue River eagles hosted Big Horn Friday afternoon and scored a 43-6 victory over the Rams.

On the Big Horn side head coach Bob St. John says they were surprised by the tough outcome, and it was good for the young talented Rams to see a good opponent to start the season. The Rams play their next game at Wright, Friday night

In other football action, Riverside beat NSI 43-8, and Buffalo started defense of their back to back 4-A State Titles with a 48-9 win at Lander.

The Wyoming Cowboys opened the season with a great second half and whipped Utah State 38-7 this week. The Pokes hit the road for a game at Virginia.

The NFL regular season opens this week. The Denver Broncos open on the road at St.. Louis Sunday afternoon.

 The Bronc and Lady Bronc cross country teams ran up in Billings Friday. The Lady Broncs didn’t have enough runners in the race to score team points, but head coach Art Bauers says the girls that did run performed well, and that the Broncs had a pretty good day as well, finishing in the middle of the pack. This week they run at an invitational over in Gillette.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc volleyball team went 1-2 in bracket play at a tournament in Gillette. After going 2-1 in pool play, the Lady Broncs beat Big Horn, then lost matches against Rapid City Central and Cheyenne East. This week the Lady Broncs play games against Sturgis, South Dakota in Gillette Thursday, then Conference matches on the road at Riverton and Cody, Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Bronc swimmers and divers lost a close dual meet with Laramie on Friday. The final was 103-83. This week the Lady Broncs will host a dual with Gillette on Friday.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc golfers took first place at a tournament in Worland, winning by six shots over Cody. Kelsey Boedecker won the Individual Title with Alli Brayton finishing 3rd. The Broncs finished 5th. CJ Golay and Robie Burnaugh led the way for the Broncs as top finishers. The Broncs and Lady Bronc golfers will play at the Buffalo Invite Friday and Saturday.

The Bronc and Lady Bronc tennis teams will host matches with Gillette Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock and will travel south for matches in Cheyenne Saturday.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc volleyball team opened their match with Casper Natrona fast last night, building up a nice lead in the first game, but let Natrona catch up before winning a close game. Then Natrona took the momentum away and went onto to win the next three games, taking the match 3 games to 1. Today and tomorrow the lady broncs will play at a tournament in Gillette.

Today is open day around the State for high school football. We will begin our coverage this afternoon in Dayton with the Big Horn Rams and Tongue River Eagles showdown. We will broadcast the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 o’clock.

Tonight the NSI Wolves will open at home against Riverside at 7 o’clock. The Sheridan Broncs host Miles City, Montana at Homer Scott Stadium. Tonight the Broncs are coming off a 34-21 win at Glendive, Montana. Running back Josh Dunkelberger says the Broncs are really upbeat this week after taking it to the Red Devils. Dunkelberger racked up 217 yards on the ground last week, and says they want to keep that momentum going. The Broncs haven’t beaten Miles City in the last three meetings between the two teams. Head coach Tim Leroy says the Cowboys are always going to be tough. Game plan-wise, Leroy says it comes down to the basics for the Broncs. We will broadcast the game live for you tonight on AM 14-10 KWYO, starting with the Pre-Game Show presented by the Wyoming Rib and Chop house at 6:30. Kickoff is set for 7 o’clock.

The Bronc and Lady Bronc JV tennis teams will play at a tournament in Casper tomorrow. The Varsity teams will see action next Thursday at home against Gillette.

The Sheridan College Lady Generals are hosting the two-day Wyoming Conference Pre-Season Tournament. Action starts today at 11 o’clock and will continue through tomorrow evening.

The Wyoming Cowboys will play their season opener tomorrow at home against Utah State. You can hear the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO starting at 1:30.

Last night in their final pre-season game, the Denver Broncos beat the Arizona Cardinals 29-23, ending the pre-season 4-0. They open the regular season next week on the road at St.. Louis.
