The Sheridan Lady Bronc volleyball team opens conference play at Sheridan High School this evening against Casper Natrona. They lost a close match with NC a week ago at a tournament in Riverton. After making it to the semi finals of that tournament last weekend, they put it a lot of hard work preparing for tonight’s showdown with the Fillies. The Varsity match is scheduled to get underway at 6:30.

The Sheridan College Lady Generals will host the annual Wyoming Conference Pre-Season volleyball tournament starting tomorrow. Nine teams will join the Lady Generals in the two day event.
 
The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc golfers had last week off, and today open up a two round tournament at the Worland Invitational. Sheridan High School golf coach Larry Martoglio says they got some good work in during their week off, and the Worland event will be a good test for both teams. This fall Sheridan High School is not having an Invitational because the Broncs and Lady Broncs will be the host teams for the 2006 State Golf Championships September 22nd and 23rd at the Powder Horn.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc cross country teams head up to Billings for an invitational meet tomorrow. After posting good finishes in Casper last week, head coach Art Bauers says the runners really responded well in preparation for this week’s race, and what has Bauers really impressed this fall is the great turn-out of underclassmen for both teams. In two weeks, Sheridan will host the annual Michelle Ludwig Sheridan Invitational Meet.

In other local action this week, the Sheridan Lady Bronc swimmers and divers will compete in their home water tomorrow evening. They host a dual meet with Laramie, action begins at 5 o’clock.

Saturday the Sheridan High School tennis teams will compete at the Casper Invitational, and next week they host conference matches with Gillette on Thursday.

In football action tomorrow, it’s opening day in Sheridan County. The Big Horn Rams and Tongue River Eagles square off out in Dayton. Kickoff is set for 2 o’clock, and we will broadcast the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

Then the Sheridan Broncs host Miles City, Montana in their home opener at 7 o’clock tomorrow night. The game will also be broadcast live on KWYO.

The NSI Wolves open their season tomorrow night with a home game against Riverside at 7 o’clock.

Saturday afternoon, the Wyoming Cowboys host Utah State in their opener in Laramie. You can hear the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Pre-Game starts at 1:30, kickoff is set for 2:30.

Tonight the Denver Broncos play the Houston Texans in Pre-Season NFL action. Listen live on AM 14-10 KWYO starting at 5 o’clock.

The defending Region Nine Champion Lady Generals volleyball team opened up their season last night, hosting Rocky Mtn. College. The visitors didn’t treat the home team very well last night, taking the match in three straight games. This weekend the Lady Generals will host 10 teams during the Wyoming Conference Pre-Season Tournament, which opens Friday morning in the Hoffman Dome.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc volleyball team will play at home tomorrow night, as they open conference play, hosting Casper Natrona. Head coach Sheri Hobbs says the players are looking forward to this big match with the Fillies.

The Lady Bronc swimmers and divers host their first dual meet of the season Friday evening. They got off to an impressive start this past weekend with four swimmers meeting State Qualifying standards in their first meet of the season.

The Bronc and Lady Bronc cross country teams run in Montana Saturday. Both teams ran well in their opening meet in Casper, Saturday. Now they get ready to run in Billings, Friday.

The first round of high school football rankings are out today. The Big Horn Rams were installed as the pre-season number one team in Class 2-A. The Tongue River Eagles made the top five in Class 3-A, ranked 4th in the Pre-Season Poll. The Sheridan Broncs also received some votes but did not crack into the top five.

The Rams and Eagles meet in the season opener Friday afternoon in Dayton. Big Horn head coach Bob St. John says even though the Rams and Eagles don’t play in the same league, this game is still important for the Rams. The Eagles begin a new season with a tough schedule of conference and non-conference games. The game in Dayton is scheduled to kickoff at 2 o’clock Friday. The game will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Sheridan Broncs play their home opener Friday night against Miles City, Montana. We will broadcast the game live. Friday, the Pre-Game Show presented by the Wyoming Rib and Chop House will open the broadcast at 6:30. kickoff is set for 7 o’clock live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The University of Wyoming will open their season in Laramie, Saturday. The Pokes take on Utah State at 2:30 Saturday afternoon live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Denver Broncos play another pre-season game tomorrow night against the Houston Texans. You can hear the game live at 5 o’clock on KWYO. The Broncos open the regular season September 10th against the St. Louis Rams.

The Sheridan College Lady Generals volleyball team starts the 2006 season as the defending Region Nine Champions. They played in last year’s National Junior College Tournament and return this Fall with a revamped line-up Match time is at 7 o’clock in the hoffman dome.

In other volleyball action this week, the Sheridan Lady Broncs open conference play at home Thursday night. They opened the season over the weekend, finishing 4th at the Riverton Invitational Tournament. They played Natrona in their first match, and head coach Sheri Hobbs says the players are looking forward to facing Natrona in the conference opener Thursday night.  The Varsity match is scheduled to begin at 6:30.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc swimmers and divers will compete at home for the first time this season Friday, when they host a dual with Laramie Friday evening at Gillette. This past Saturday several top swimmers already met the State Meet Qualifying Standards.
The Sheridan High School Broncs cross country team performed well at the Casper Invitational. Both teams run at the Billings Invitational Saturday.

In football action this week, the Big Horn Rams and Tongue River Eagles will face off in Dayton. The Rams are coming off their pre-season scrimmage in good shape. Now they prepare to meet the Eagles. Tongue River head coach Chuck Walters says the Eagles also had a great scrimmage Saturday night, and the players put in a lot time during the off season to get ready for the season opener. The game will kickoff Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock in Dayton, and you can hear all the action live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Sheridan Bronc Football team is back at this week after posting a season opening win at Glendive, Montana Saturday night. The Broncs host the Cowboys from Miles City, Montana Friday night. Kickoff is at 7 o’clock live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Sheridan High School IV football team will play this afternoon at Homer Scott Stadium. The IV Broncs will take on Billings Senior High School. Kickoff is set for 4 o’clock.

The Sheridan Broncs beat Glendive, Montana 34-21 Saturday night, to pick up a win in their season opener. The running game did most of the damage with Josh Dunkelberg going for 217 yards. The Bronc defense forced four turnovers. The Broncs play their home opener Friday night against Miles City, Montana. Kickoff is at 7 o’clock.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc volleyball team made it all the way to the semi finals at a tournament in Riverton Saturday, before being eliminated in a great match with Casper Kelly Walsh. The Lady Broncs also played Casper, Natrona in Riverton and won that match, They will host the Fillies in a conference match Thursday night. The varsity match will start at 6:30.

The Lady Bronc swimmers and divers had a productive weekend as well, competing in Casper and Gillette. Head coach Larry White says their top swimmers made a big splash Saturday in Gillette. Friday the Lady Broncs host a dual meet with Laramie.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc cross country teams ran will in their opening event in Casper. Head coach Art Bauers says both teams accomplished many goals, and that the Lady Broncs had a great day. This week they run at the Billings Invitational,  on Saturday.

Tomorrow night the Sheridan College Lady Generals volleyball team will open their 2006 season at home against Rocky Mtn. College. Head coach Todd Cooper says the players are excited to get the season started, and they expect it to be a tough match with the Lady Bears. The match will get under way tomorrow night at 7 o’clock.

The Sheridan High School tennis teams opened the new season yesterday with three victories. The Lady Broncs shut out Dubois and Riverton by scores of 5-0 while the Broncs beat Riverton three matches to two tomorrow. Gillette is hosting a JV tournament, and the Lady Broncs will travel to play in an invitational in Rapid City.

The football season opens with the Sheridan Broncs in Glendive, Montana tomorrow. Big Horn, Tongue River and NSI all play scrimmages, with their opening day a week from today. The Rams will host a scrimmage tomorrow with Greybull. The Tongue River Eagles will scrimmage at NSI tomorrow night.

 The Sheridan Broncs play in Glendive, Montana. Head coach Tim Leroy says this game may not count on the Broncs’ regular season power ranking, but don’t tell the players that. One thing fans will notice this fall is that not many players will be going both ways, as the coach’s big priority during the off season was building depth. We will broadcast the game live for you on AM 14-10 KWYO. The Pre-Game Show presented by the Wyoming Rib and Chop House will open the broadcast at 6:30, with kickoff set for 7 o’clock. The Broncs open at home a week from tonight when they host Miles City, Montana. The Eagles will host the Rams next Friday afternoon, and NSI opens next Friday at home against Riverside.

The Tongue River Eagles open 2006 with a new head coach, as former Eagle Assistant coach Chuck Walters takes the lead role this year. The Eagles made the playoffs last year and should be tough again this Fall. The Eagles made it to the semi finals in last season’s playoffs and have a solid group of returning talent. Walters says he has been impressed with over the last two weeks is the players’s team unity. The Eagles will play a controlled scrimmage at NSI Saturday night. Each offense will get 25 plays. The Eagles open the season at home next Friday against Big Horn. Join us Saturday morning for breakfast with the coaches. Walters will join us as one of our guests.

The Big Horn Rams will host a scrimmage Saturday morning against Greybull. The public is invited to come out. The Rams open at T.R. next Friday. That game will be broadcast on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The first season of Sheridan Little Guy Football on the new complex on Dan Madia Field on 11th Street opened last night with a dedication ceremony for the new facility, which has three football fields, a new lighting system, and scoreboard. One of the biggest contributors to the little program over the years has been Homer Scott Jr. Last night Scotty was at Dan Madia Field for the dedication. Also attending last night were members of Dan Madia’s family, including his sons Gary and Ken, and grandson Dominic. Little Guy Football Coordinator Whitey Wells was excited to get the new season underway.

The Big Guys open their season Saturday as the high school. Football season opens for the Sheridan Broncs. They play in Glendive, Montana.. Jared Guyer will join Montano on the Broncs’ offensive line. Guyer had off-season reconstructive knee surgery, and says he feels great and the o-line is a confident group as they prepare to face the Red Devils.

In more local football, the Big Horn Rams will open the season at Tongue River next week in Dayton. The Rams made it all the way to the 2-A Semi-Finals last fall after winning State Titles in 2003 and 2004. They have a young but talented group coming back this year, and head coach Bob St.. John says their goal is to get back into the playoffs and make another run this fall. Tomorrow we will continue our preview of local football with a visit to the Tongue River Eagles’ Fall Camp.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc golfers completed their second tournament of the fall season yesterday in Douglas. The top finisher for both teams was Kelsey Boedecker. Kelsey finished 3rd in the Individual Girls Standings. The golfers are off this weekend and will compete at an invitational in Worland next week.

The 2006 Sheridan City golf championships have concluded, and here are the results from the weekend’s action: The City Champion for the year is Casey Barking, and finishing 2nd in the championship flight was Mark Isakson, followed by Nate Wilson and Bill Ebling.

The first flight winner was Ron Burr, followed by Rick Levi and Larry Sanderson tied for 2nd. Gabe Thums finished 4th.

The second flight was won by Eric Assumssun, and tied for second were Don Martini and Jim Urbatchka. Kamrin Allen and Jake Wright finished tied for 4th.

The third flight was won by Bud Johnson, second went to Bob Matthews, third place to Jaybe Cates, and 4th place went to Chris Withrow. The fourth flight was won by Dave Sila, followed by Tom McClain. The fifth flight winner was Bill Oatts, with Dick Loeber 2nd.

The Women’s City Champion is Mary Smith, and Maureen Humphries was low net in the championship flight. In the women’s first flight the overall winner was Chris Urbatchka, with Caryn Johnson getting the low net.

Tonight is opening night for the 2006 Little Guy Football season. Before games begin tonight, a dedication ceremony will take place at the new Little Guy Football complex on 11th street on Dan Madia Field. The new complex will feature two new fields, a new lighting system, and new scoreboard. Dignitaries from the City of Sheridan, the Rec. District, along with Scotty Scott will all be on hand to dedicate the new facility, then the games begin. Recreation District Director Richard Wright says this facility was a longtime coming. Not only is the Little Guy Football program benefiting from the new facility, but Dan Madia Field is used by several groups in Sheridan. Tonight’s ceremony will take place at 5:15, with the first night of games to follow.

The Big Horn Rams are in their second week of pre-season practice. The Rams are coming off a season which saw them get one game away from the State Title Game,. and a youthful but energetic group comes back this year for Head Coach Bob St.. John. The Rams open on the road at Tongue River September 1st.

The Sheridan Broncs went through two a day workouts last week then held a scrimmage Saturday night. This week they shift into high gear as they prepare for the season opener Saturday night in Glendive, Montana.

In volleyball notes today, the Sheridan College Lady Generals open 2006 as the defending Region Nine Champions, and open the season at home next week on Tuesday. The team has been together for the past couple of weeks, and Head Coach Todd Copper says he’s liked what has seen so far from a young but talented team. He says it will take a few good matches for the freshmen to get more comfortable with the speed of College volleyball.The Lady Generals host Rocky Mtn. College a week from tonight at 7 o’clock in the Hoffman dome at Sheridan College.

The Sheridan Broncs 1st, 2nd and 3rd offensive and defensive units went against one another during an hour long scrimmage Saturday night. Senior lineman Nick Montano says the Broncs had a good week of two a day culminating with a good workout during Saturday night ’s scrimmage. Senior Jared Guyer says the Broncs feel confident as they prepare to open the season this week. After the scrimmage concluded, head oach Tim Leroy says the players accomplished exactly what the coaches wanted to see. The Broncs open the season Saturday night in Glendive, Montana. you can hear the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 o’clock.

In other football action this week, School District Number One opens classes Wednesday. The Big Horn Rams and Tongue River Eagles will have two this week and next to prepare to open the season against each other in Dayton on September 1st..

The NSI Wolves will open their season on September 1st as well. The Wolves will open at home against Riverside.

The Wyoming Cowboys open their season September 2nd at home against Utah State. All Cowboy football games will be broadcast live on AM 14-10 KWYO.

The Denver Broncos whipped Tennessee 35-10 in a pre-season game Saturday night this week. The Broncos play another pre-season game at home Sunday evening against the Houston Texans live on AM 14-10 KWYO Sunday starting at 5 pm.

The Sheridan High School golfers got the fall sports season started this past week as they competed at the season opening Gillette Invitational. The Lady Broncs placed four players in the top ten as they finished second behind Gillette. Kelsey Boedecker was the Lady Broncs top finisher as she placed 3rd overall. Rachel Ryan and Alli Brayton tied for 7th, and Leah Tenney was 10th.. The Broncs finished 9th as a team with no players making the top ten in the individual standings. Both teams are back at it today - the two day Douglas invitational starts later today. The Fall golf season closes this year in Sheridan, with the State Tournament hosted by the Powder Horn September 22nd and 23rd.

The Fall sports schedule gets into full swing this week with the beginning of the volleyball, tennis, cross country and girls swimming season. The Lady Bronc volleyball team will compete at a tournament in Riverton. The Lady Bronc swimmers and divers will be in Casper for the Casper relays Friday, and in Gillette Saturday. The cross country teams run at the Casper Invitational, and the Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc tennis teams open the new season at home Thursday afternoon. Matches begin at noon with Dubois, and 3 o’clock with Riverton.

Fall sports season opens today for all Sheridan Junior High athletes. Practices for 7th and 8th grade football, volleyball and cross country open this afternoon at 4 o’clock. The 8th Grade girls volleyball team will start their first practice at 5:15.

The Sheridan Broncs will host a scrimmage tomorrow night. It’s their annual Public Scrimmage and all football fans are encouraged to come out and get a preview of the 2006 Broncs. One area addressed during the off season by the coaching staff was depth. Head Coach Time Leroy says that focus paid off, and now the Broncs have two number one units that can give each other a good test tomorrow night. And with the progress they’ve made this week, they’ll be more than ready when they open the season a week from tomorrow in Glendive, Montana. Kickoff for next saturday’s game will be at 7 pm. You’ll be able to hear the game live on am 14-10 KWYO.

“Two a day” for the Tongue River Eagles, Bighorn Rams, and NSI Wolves all continue into the weekend. In 2005 Big Horn hosted Tongue River the season opener. This year it’s the Eagles’ turn to host the Rams. The game will be played Friday, September 1st in Dayton. The game will be broadcast on am 14-10 KWYO.
The NSI Wolves will also open their season on September 1st. They’ll be at home against Riverside.

The Wyoming Cowboys open the 2006 season in 15 days. The Pokes will open at home with Utah State on September 2nd. Wednesday night Head Coach Joe Glenn named Junior Jake Doss as the Cowboys’ starting quarterback for the opener.

The Denver Broncos host the Tennessee Titans tomorrow night at Mile High. We will broadcast the ball game live for you starting with the Locker Room Show at 6 o’clock.

The fall sports season gets into full swing next week as the volleyball, tennis, cross country and swimming season’s all get rolling Friday. The Lady Bronc swimmers and divers will open at the Casper relays  a week from today. Head Coach Larry White says off season training has the Lady Bronc ahead of schedule this week. One area where the Lady Broncs should see some improvement in scoring points this year will be off the diving board. Leslie Hitchcock was the lone diver for the Lady Broncs last fall but White says she’ll have some company one their end of the pool this year.

One final note, all junior high sports teams open pre-season practice Monday. That includes all 7th and 8th grade football players, volleyball players and cross country runners. Al sports except 8th grade volleyball will open drills Monday afternoon at 4 o’clock. 8th grade volleyball will start at 5:15. All athletes must have their sports physicals completed before they can practice with their teams

The Sheridan Lady Bronc golfers are coming off the spring season as the North Conference Champs. Now as the fall season opens, the prize is a State Title. The race for the State Championship begins today in Gillette. Sheridan High School will not host an Invitational this fall because the State Golf Tournament will be played at the Powder Horn September 22nd and 23rd.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc swimmers and divers have been in the pool for two days. The good news is that numbers are up this fall . 21 girls are in the pool and five individuals will dive for the Lady Broncs as well. The Lady Broncs open at the Casper relays next Friday.

The Sheridan Broncs went through their third day of two-a-day drills yesterday, and they look really good as they prepare to open the season next Saturday. The Broncs play at Glendive, Montana next Saturday and open at home September 1st against Miles City, Montana. The Broncs will play their fall scrimmage Saturday night at 7 o’clock at Homer Scott Stadium. All fans are welcome to come out for a preview of this year’s Bronc football team.

The Big Horn Rams, Tongue River Eagles and NSI Wolves are all going through their two-a-day drills as well. The Eagles host the Rams on opening day September 1st, and the Wolves will open at home on the first against Riverside.

34 Sheridan County Senior athletes competed in the 2006 Wyoming Senior Olympics. Their ages ranged from 52-82. Sheridan Olympians took home medals in nine different events from track and field to archery. 260 people from 16 states competed in the event which is for those 50 and older. The oldest competitor this year was 92 year old Bette Keefer from Windsor, Colorado. Complete final results for the event are expected to be posted on the Senior Olympics Website next week at www.wyseniorolympics.com . Next year the Wyoming Senior Olympics will be held in Sheridan, August 26th through 28th.

The baseball season ended in Sheridan yesterday with the completion of the Region 7 American Legion Single “A” Regional Tournament at Thorne-Rider Stadium. Three teams entered the final day of play with one loss each in the first game. The Montana State Champs from the Bitteroot Valley near Florence, Montana took on the State Champs from Richland, Washington. The Montanans jumped out to a big lead and it held up for a 17-9 win. They advanced to the title games against Medford, Oregon.. The championship game went right down to the final at bat with the Montana champs just holding off Oregon 10-9 to win the Regional Championship.Our region is the only area in the country that hosts a Single “A” Regional. This was the third Regional hosted by Sheridan since 1991, and the 10th time the American Legion has held a Regional Tournament in Sheridan. Sheridan is in  line for another post season baseball tournament next August. Thorne-Rider Stadium will host the 2007  Double “AA”  State American Legion Tournament.

The Sheridan high school Bronc and Lady Bronc golf teams open their fall schedule tomorrow at the two day Gillette Invitational. All other fall sports with the exception of football open play in the 25th the Bronc football team play in Glendive, Montana on Saturday the 26th  with Tongue River hosting Big Horn to open the season September 1st. The Broncs will host Miles City, Montana in their home opener September 1st.

The Wyoming Cowboys football team plays their first game of the season September 2nd at home against Utah State.

Also in football notes this week, the Denver Broncos play their next pre-season game at home against Tennessee Saturday night. You can hear the game live on am 14-10 KWYO starting with the Bronco Locker Room Show at 6 o’clock.

Next week the Sheridan Recreation District opens up another season of Little Guy Football and they will hold a special opening ceremony at Dan Madia Field to kickoff the new season Tuesday night. Two fields are set and ready to go, plus a new lighting system, and they will unveil the new scoreboard prior to the opening of play Tuesday night at 5:15. Dan Madia Field is located on 11th street formerly known as West Thorne-Rider.

The Wyoming Double “AA” American Legion State Champions from Cheyenne made a great run at their Regional Tournament in Casper, but came up three runs short in their bid to become the first Wyoming team to make it to the American Legion World Series. After an opening round loss, Cheyenne won three straight games to make into yesterday finals against Lincoln, Nebraska. Cheyenne held a 2-1 lead until the 6th Inning when Nebraska took the lead and went on to win the title 6-3. They now head to the American Legion World Series which is being held in Cedar Rapids. Iowa play begins Friday.

The Single “A” Northwest Regional will end this afternoon at Thorne-Rider Stadium. Three teams remain in the tournament today. All three are playing with one with a loss at noon. Montana plays Washington, with the loser eliminated. The winner advances to play Oregon for the title following the first game. Again, it’s a Double Header at Thorne-Rider Stadium this afternoon starting at 12 o’clock.

The fall high school sports season officially opened yesterday with the first day of practice. The fall season actually begins Thursday with the Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc golfers competing at an Invitational in Gillette. The rest of the teams open on the 25th with the exception of the Sheridan Bronc football team. The Broncs open at Glendive, Montana on Saturday, August 26th with Big Horn, Tongue River, and NSI all opening on September 1st. The Eagles host the Rams on opening day and NSI will open at home as well against Riverside. The Broncs home opener will be on September 1st against Miles City.

The Bronc football team practices at 9 am and again at 4 pm. They will scrimmage Saturday night at 7 o’clock at Homer Scott Stadium.

Practices also continue today for Lady Bronc swimming and volleyball plus Sheridan high school cross county and tennis.

The Little Guy football season opens next week on a new field - it’s Dan Madia Field on 11th street. This is the new Little Guy Football Complex, complete with a new lighting system. Next week the Sheridan Recreation District will have a dedication ceremony for the new scoreboard on the first night of Little GuyGgames. It’s next Tuesday at 5:15.

In other football notes, the Wyoming Cowboys will open their season September 2nd at home against Utah State. The next Denver Bronco pre-season game will be broadcast Saturday night when the Broncos host Tennessee broadcast time will be at 6 o’clock live on AM 14-10 KWYO

The Sheridan Broncs, Big Horn Rams, Tongue River Eagles and NSI Wolves all open Fall Football Camp today. The Broncs open the regular season on the road at Glendive, Montana on August 26th and play their home opener on the 31st against Miles City, Montana. The Big Horn Rams and Tongue River Eagles meet in their season opener Friday, August 31st in Dayton, and the NSI Wolves open on the 31st at home against Riverside.

All other high school practices start today, as well as Lady Bronc swimming and diving, Bronc and Lady Bronc tennis, golf, cross country and Lady Bronc volleyball. The Sheridan College Lady Generals volleyball has already begun their fall camp. The season opens for those sports in two weeks. The Lady Bronc volleyball team opens at a tournament in Riverton on the 25th. The cross country runners open at the Casper Invite on the 25th. The tennis teams open on the 24th against Riverton. The fall golf season opens this week on Thursday and Friday for the Broncs and Lady Broncs at the Gillette Invitational.

All Wyoming high school coaches and sports officials must attend one of several Rules Clinics for their respective sports. Local Clinics are being held at Sheridan High School. The Volleyball Rules Clinic will be held tomorrow night at 7 o’clock, the Football Rules Clinic will be held Wednesday night at 7 o’clock, and the Swimming Rules Clinic will be held Thursday at 7 o’clock. Taking a look and Sheridan Recreation District news today, a managers meeting will take place on the 24th for Adult Flag Football. All teams must have a team representative at this meeting. It will be held at 6 o’clock at the Rec Office in Thorne-Rider Park.

Adult Co-Rec fall softball begins a week from today. Games will be played Monday and Wednesday evening at the softball complex at Sheridan College.

Rec District Paintball Leagues get rolling on August 26th. They will have a six week season with a culminating tournament October 7th. For more information contact the Rec Office.

The American Legion Northwest Regional Baseball Tournament gets underway this morning at Thorne-Rider Stadium with the Wyoming State Champion Jackson Giants taking on the Oregon state champs at 9:30. The second game will get underway at 12:30 with Washington playing Idaho. The evening session begins at 4:30 with Alaska taking on Montana. The Sheridan Jets follow in the late game tonight at 7:30 against the Utah state champs. Tournament director Dan Bilyue is excited to have another of these national tournaments in Sheridan boasting that Thorne-Tider has a great tradition of hosting these events. As far as tickets are concerned all passes can be purchased at the gate. Bilyue urges all Sheridan sports fans to support the tournament as they should see some really good baseball. There will be four games today, four games tomorrow three on Sunday and two each Monday and Tuesday with the title game set for noon Tuesday.

The NFL football season begins this evening for the Denver Broncos they open the exhibition season at the Detroit Lions. You can hear the game live on am 14-10 KWYO starting with the Broncos Lockeroom Show at 4:30.

The University of Wyoming Cowboys football team opens their season September 2nd with a home game against Utah State.

On the local football scene practice begins Monday morning. The Sheridan Broncs play on the road in Glendive Montana Saturday August 26th and their home opener will be the 31st against Miles City. Season long coverage of Broncs football can be heard on am 14-10 KWYO.

The Tongue River Eagles and Big Horn Rams will open the new football season against each other in Dayton.

The Flying “H” Polo Ranch will host matches this afternoon. It’s a chance to see World Class Polo right here in Sheridan County. The first match today will get underway at 1 o’clock, and the second feature will be at 3 pm. They also play matches on Saturday afternoon at 1 and 3. Admission is free. They have a small grandstand or you can bring out your own chairs. Concessions are available on site.

In Local Baseball notes, the Sheridan Jets will host the American Legion Single “A” Regional Tournament, which gets underway tomorrow. The Jets will open the tournament tomorrow night against the State Champs from Utah. The Wyoming representative will be the Jackson Giants. They open with Oregon tomorrow. Other teams competing will be the champs from Washington, Montana, Idaho and Alaska. The tournament is Double Elimination. Four games will be played each day during the first three days. Tickets for the tournament - including Session Passes, Daily Passes and Tournament Passes - will be sold at the gate at Thorne-Rider Stadium. Four Sheridan Toopers have made the Wyoming Double “AA” All-State Team.  Two are making their 3rd appearance on the team. Three-time All-Staters are Shortstop Michael Arras and First Basemen / Pitcher Chris Reynolds. Joining Reynolds and Araas on the team this year are first-timers JD Dudrey at Third Base, and Pitcher Kyle Boyd.

The pairings are set and the teams ready to go as the 06’ American Legion Northwest Regional Single “A” Baseball Tournament opens in Sheridan Friday morning. There will be four games Friday starting with the Wyoming State Champion Jackson Giants taking on the champs from Oregon. The second game at 12:30 will feature Washington against Idaho. The evening session begins at 4:30 with Montana facing Alaska, followed by the Sheridan Jets against Utah at 7:30. There will be four games Friday and Saturday, three Sunday, and two Monday and Tuesday. The title game is scheduled for Tuesday at noon. Tournament passes will be sold at the Gate.

The 2006 Double “AA” American Legion Regional starts tomorrow in Casper. First Round pairings have the Idaho champs from Boise going up against the Nebraska champs from Lincoln at 10 am. The second game will have Bellevue, Washington against Salem, Oregon. The third game at 4 o’clock will have post 6 from Cheyenne taking on the Billings Scarlets. The Montana State Champs and the final game will have the host Casper Oilers taking on Anchorage, Alaska.

 The Flying “H” Polo Ranch and the Big Horn Equestrian Center will host more Polo this week. Admission to all matches is free. Play at the Polo Ranch is tomorrow and Saturday. Scheduled matches are at 1 and 3 o’clock. Flying “H” Polo is High goal Polo, featuring some of the best professional players in the world.

The Big Horn Equestrian Center hosts Polo matches on Friday and Sunday afternoon. The Flying “H” Polo Ranch is located adjacent to the Big Horn Equestrian Center.

The fall sports season opens Monday for all high school athletes involved in football, volleyball, cross country, tennis, Lady Bronc swimming, and golf. All players must have sports physicals completed. All Sheridan junior high 7th and 8th grade football, volleyball and cross country participants will open their fall practices on Monday august 21st. They too must have physicals completed before they can begin practice.

The fall golf season opens for the Broncs and Lady Broncs next Thursday and Friday at an Invitational in Gillette. The Sheridan High School Tennis teams open August 24th at home against Riverton. The Lady Bronc volleyball team plays at a tournament in Riverton starting on the 25th. The cross country teams open at an invite in Casper on the 25th and the Lady Bronc swimmers open at the Casper relays on the 25th. The Sheridan Bronc football team opens on the road in Glendive, Montana Saturday, August 26th with their home opener on the 31st against Miles City, Montana.

The Tongue River Eagles will open the football season hosting the Big Horn Rams on August 31st.

The 2006 National Hersey Youth Track Meet wrapped up in Hersey Pennsylvania over the weekend and the Wyoming contingent represented the Cowboy State very well. Sheridan’s Dale Boedecker was one of the adult representatives at this year’s national meet and says it is a great event for the kids. Five kids from Wyoming competed including a young man from Big Horn. Boedecker went onto say the Wyoming youth did a fantastic job of representing our State. The athletes were joined by some of the greatest track athletes of all time. Appearances were made by 1960 Olympic Gold Medal Decathlete Rafer Johnson, nine time Olympic Gold Medal Winner Carl Lewis, along with 1996 Gold Medal winning Decathlete Dan o’Brien.

The 2006 Northwest Region Single “A” American Legion Baseball Tournament opens Friday at Thorne-Rider Stadium. Tournament Director Dan says they need you help to make sure the tournament is a success. Four games will be played the first three days. The tournament is double elimination.

The 2006 Northwest Region Double “AA” American Legion Baseball Tournament opens Thursday at Mike Lansing field in Casper, Cheyenne and Casper will compete in the tournament along with the state champs from Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Alaska, and newcomer to the region Nebraska.Ttraditionally the champs from Northern California played in this region but problems in the past with California teams prompted the National American Legion to boot them out of this region and were replaced by Nebraska. Casper opens the tournament Thursday night against Alaska, while Cheyenne will take on the Montana State Champs, the Billings Scarlets.

All Sheridan Junior High athletes need to have sports physicals completed before they can practice with their teams. The first practice for all junior high athletes which includes 7th and 8th grade football, 7th and 8th grade volleyball and 7th and 8th grade cross country will be Monday august 21st. The first practices with the exception of 8th grade volleyball will all begin at 4 o’clock on the 21st. 8th grade volleyball will open practice at 5:15. The Sheridan Troopers finished 5th in this year’s double “AA” American Legion Baseball tournament they were eliminated Friday evening by Casper. The Troops came a long way this season finishing the year with a .500 record at 28-28 overall. Cheyenne won their 6th consecutive State Championship, beating Casper for the title Saturday night. Post 6 will open up their Regional Tournament Thursday afternoon in Casper against the Montana State champs the Billings Scarlets.

The 2007 State double “AA” tournament will be in Sheridan next August.

Thorne-Rider Stadium will be the site for the 2006 Single “A” Northwest Regional Tournament. The Sheridan Jets will host the State Champs from Wyoming “The Jackson Giants,” also the State Champs from Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Utah and Alaska. Play opens Friday.

Also on the Local Sports scene this week you can watch Polo matches Thursday through Saturday at the Big Horn Equestrian Center and at the Flying “H” Polo Ranch.
Matches are played Friday and Sunday at the Equestrian Center and matches at the Flying “H” are played Thursday and Saturday at 1 and 3 o’clock in the afternoon. Admission is always free to all matches. The Flying H is located adjacent to the Big Horn Equstrian Center.

This week the Sheridan Rec District will host the annual JD Mullinax Tennis Tournament. Play will be Saturday and Sunday, at the Thorne-Rider Park Tennis Complex. They will have men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles. The fee is 15 dollars per player per event. You can register this week at the Rec Office in Thorne-Rider Park.

The fall high school sports season open s a week from today. It will be the first day athletes can officially practice with their coaches. All junior high and high school athletes must have sports physicals completed before they will be allowed to participate.

The Wyoming high school activities association will host official Rules Clinics starting this week. Clinics will be on video and will be held in Sheridan up at Sheridan High School.

The Football Officials Clinic will be tomorrow night and on August 16th. Starting at 7 o’clock the Swimming Officials Clinic will be held on the 9th and 17th at 7 o’clock, and the Volleyball Rules Clinic will be held on the 10th and 15th also at 7 pm. The Troopers had a rough night last night when they played defending state champions Cheyenne and lost 26-6. Today they play in the losers bracket against Casper. This an elimination game – if they lose they come home but if they win they play a 2nd game later today. We will keep you posted.

Next week Thorne-Rider Stadium will host the 2006 American Legion Single “A” Northwest Regional Tournament. Event director Dan Bilyue says Thorne-Rider Stadium is a perfect venue for this tournament with Sheridan having a long tradition of hosting these American legion post season national tournaments. Bilyue says the only way we have been able to pull off hosting the regional tournaments is great volunteer support. If you would like to volunteer please contact Dan Bilyue at 672-2376. 

The Sheridan County Junior Golf Association will host their final youth golf tournament Monday at The Powder Horn. The tournament is open to all Sheridan County boys and girls ages 8-17. The fee for Monday’s event will be 10 dollars per player that includes the golf, lunch and swimming after the tournament. To register stop by the golf shops at The Powder Horn, Kendrick Golf Course or The Sheridan Country Club.

Today is the deadline to register players for little guy football. The Sheridan Rec District will take sign ups until 5 o’clock tonight for the 1st and 2nd grade flag league the 3rd and 4th grade flag league and the 5th and 6th grade tackle program. All tackle players must have a sports physical completed before they will be allowed to practice with their teams. For more information call the Rec District Office at 674-6421.

The Sheridan Troopers played the Torrington Tigers in the first round of the state tournament yesterday. The Troopers beat the Tigers 10 to 0. Today play continues with Sheridan taking on Cheyenne at 7:30pm.

In other local baseball notes Sheridan will host the 2006 American Legion Single “A” Northwest Regional Tournament next week. Opening day at Thorne-Rider Stadium will be next Friday. The Sheridan Jets are the host team. They host the state champs from Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Utah, Washington, Oregon and Alaska. Dan Bilyue is the tournament director and says they could use some volunteers to help out during the tournament. If you would like to help out you can contact Dan Bilyue at 672-2376. Again the tournament opens next Friday the 11th and will run through the 15th.

In Sheridan Recreation District new registration wraps up tomorrow for little guy flag and tackle football. The deadline is tomorrow night at 5 o’clock at the Sheridan Rec Office in Thorne-Rider Park.

Registration remains open for fall co-rec softball league. Play begins August 21st.

The Sheridan Troopers will play the second game of the state tournament today when they meet Torrington in their first round match-up. This will be the first meeting between the two teams since Torrington eliminated the Troopers from last year’s state tournament. As far as a favorite to win this week Arras says all you need to do is look at the home team. Post #6 has won the last five state championships and Arras says they are the king until the crown gets knocked off. The tournament does have several teams in the field that will give Cheyenne a run for the title including the Troopers. Sheridan American Legion Baseball general manager Dan Bilyue says the Troops have had a great year so far and thinks they can make a run at the state title. If the Troopers get by Torrington today it looks pretty good that they will face Cheyenne in the second round tomorrow night.

The Sheridan Rec District will close out little guy football registration tomorrow. The deadline is at 5 o’clock. Sign ups are for all 1st through 2nd grade and 3rd through 4th grade flag football players and all 5th and 6th grade tackle players.

Registration is also open for fall co-rec softball league. Play begins August 21st.

Paintball league registration opened this week as well they will feature three leagues one for 6th through 8th grades, 9th through 12th grades and an adult league.

The Sheridan Troopers open up the state 2006 Double “AA” State American Legion Baseball Tournament in Cheyenne tomorrow. The Troops will take on Torrington tomorrow in the state tournament. Opener Chris Reynolds will get the start in the first game. Arras says any changes the Troops make for the tournament will be minimal.

The Sheridan Jets will cool their heels for the next week and a half as they get ready to host the American Legion Single “A” Northwest Region Tournament at Thorne-Rider Stadium. The state champs from Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Utah and Alaska. The tournament director is Dan Bilyue and he says Sheridan fans will get to see a lot of good baseball when the tournament opens August 11th. Bilyue says Sheridan has a great tradition of hosting these regional’s and the only way it works if local fans come. Again the Northwest Single “A” Regional Tournament opens August 11th at Thorne-Rider Stadium.

As we mentioned yesterday the Flying “H” Polo Ranch just complete their second full week of play for the 2006 season.  Flying “H” owner Skey Johnston says these are some of the best players in the world and he says his vision is to provide the finest brand of polo possible. Johnston says with this high goal polo being played it’s a great opportunity for other local players to see great polo and learn from the best. Matches are played Thursday and Saturday afternoon at 1 and 3 o’clock. Admission is free and the public is always invited to come out and watch.

The Sheridan Rec District opened registration this week for several of their fall sports programs. All little guy football leagues including the 1st and 2nd grade flag the 3rd and 4th grade flag league and the 5th and 6th grade tackle program. Registration closes at 5 o’clock Friday. You can sign players up at the Rec Office in Thorne-Rider Park.

Registration is open this week for the fall Co-Rec softball league team fees are 180 dollars per team play begins August 21st.

And the Rec District is organizing fall paintball leagues as well. They will have three leagues one for 6th through 8th grades one for 9th through 12th grades and an adult league. The season will run for six weeks and culminate with a tournament. League play opens August 26th. Team fees are 375 dollars per team. A league managers meeting will be held at the Rec Office August 10th at 5:30. All teams must have a representative at that meeting.
