The Sheridan Troopers closed out the regular season at home Friday night taking a 5-4 loss against Laramie. The Troops used the game not only to get a look at Laramie before the state tournament but to get a tune up for their pitchers before the start of the State Tournament Wednesday. The Troops got down 5-1 in the middle innings of the nine inning game but came back strong and Arras says those two extra innings gives you a chance to comeback if you need to. The Troops had a good season including a tie for the north conference title, an accomplishment the Troops hadn’t had in more then ten years and Arras says they felt this team had a chance to have a good year. Now it’s onto the state tournament in Cheyenne. The Troops open the first round Wednesday afternoon against Torrington.

The Sheridan Jets were eliminated from their district tournament in two games last week in Douglas. They lost 13-0 against Wheatland and 8-7 against Gillette. The Jets now have a week and half off to prepare to host the Northwest Regional Single “A” American Legion Tournament which opens August 11th at Thorne-Rider Stadium.

The Flying “H” Polo Ranch closed out it’s second full week of their polo season Saturday. Shey Johnston owns the Flying “H” and says he’s been pleased with the start of the 2006 season. Flying “H” Polo matches are played Thursday and Saturday afternoon’s at 1 and 3 o’clock. Admission is free and the public is always invited to come out and watch.

The Sheridan Rec. District opens registration this week for several of their fall sports programs. Registration opens today for all little guy football leagues including the 1st and 2nd grade flag league, the 3rd and 4th grade flag league and the 5th and 6th grade tackle program. Registration closes at 5 o’clock Friday. You can sign players up at the Rec Office in Thorne-Rider Park.

Registration also opens today for the fall co-rec softball league. Team fees are 180 dollars per team. Play begins August 21st.

And the Rec District is organizing fall paintball leagues as well. They will have three leagues one for 6th through 8th grades one for 9th through 12th grades and an adult league. The season will run for six weeks and culminate with a tournament. League play opens August 26th. Team fees are 375 dollars per team and a league managers meeting will be held at the Rec Office August 10th at 5:30. All teams must have a representative at that meeting. The Sheridan Jets are playing at their district tournament in Douglas they opened yesterday taking a 13-0 loss against Wheatland. They will play an elimination game today against Gillette. Gillette lost their opener 3-2 against Cheyenne.

The Sheridan Troopers close out their regular season at Thorne-Rider Stadium tonight. The Troops will also honor five players that will play their final game as Troopers at Thorne-Rider Stadium. The Troopers will play a single nine inning game with Laramie tonight starting at 7 o’clock.

The pairings for next week’s State Double “A” Tournament have been set. The Troopers will open their tournament next Wednesday against Torrington. Other first round games will have Gillette taking on Evanston and Cheyenne will open with Riverton. The final game of the first round will have Laramie taking on Casper. The state tournament is double elimination with the state champ earning a spot in the Northwest Regional tournament in Casper which gets underway August 10th.

The Northwest Single “A” American Legion Tournament will be played in Sheridan starting August 11th.

The Colorado Rockies beat San Diego 9-8 in ten innings last night. Tonight you can hear the game live on am 14-10 KWYO starting at 6:30.

The Flying “H” Polo Club will host two matches tomorrow. Matches through July and August are played on Thursday and Saturday each week. Tomorrow’s matches will be played at 1 and 3 o’clock. The Flying “H” Polo Club is located south of Sheridan adjacent to the Big Horn Equestrian Center. Follow the signs. Admission is free. The Equestrian Center plays their polo matches Friday and Sunday’s through the rest of the summer.
The Sheridan Rec District is gearing up for their fall sports season. Registration opens for Little Guy Football on Monday and will run for one week. That includes 1st and 2nd grade and 3rd and 4th grade flag football and 5th and 6th grade tackle football. They are also opening registration Monday for their adult co-rec softball fall league. Play opens August 21st and runs through September. Games will be played on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

The Rec District is organizing paintball leagues this fall as well. They will offer a junior high age league for 6th through 8th grades a high school league for 9th through 12th grades and an adult league. Leagues are open to boys and girls and men and women. They will host a team managers meeting at the Rec Office at 5:30 August 10th. League play begins August 26th.

The final Sheridan County Junior Golf Association Golf Tournament will be played at The Powder Horn Monday August 7th. The tournament is open to all boys and girls ages 8-17. The fee is 10 dollars per player. Registration forms are now available at the golf shops at The Powder Horn, Kendrick Golf Course and The Sheridan Country Club.

It’s official North Conference American Legion Schedule is over and the Sheridan Troopers and Gillette Roughriders will each get a piece of the north conference championship as both teams finished the season at 9-3 overall. The Troopers will get the number two seed going into next week’s state tournament as Gillette won the seeding tie breaker and will be the number one seed from the north. It looks like the Troops will open the state tournament in Cheyenne next Wednesday against Torrington. Gillette will get either Rocksprings or Evanston, Casper will play Laramie, and Riverton gets to take on the host team Post #6. Tomorrow night will be your last chance to see the Troopers play this season as they host the regular season finale against Laramie. It will be one nine inning ball game tomorrow night starting at 7 o’clock. Again the Troopers open the state tournament next week on Wednesday in Cheyenne. Their first round opponent will be Torrington.

The Sheridan Jets open their post season today in Douglas at their district tournament. The Jets take on Wheatland today in the opener. The other district tournament is being played in Cody. The top four teams from each district advance to next week’s state tournament in Laramie. The baseball season will end in Sheridan with the Jets as the host team for the American Legion Single “A” Northwest Regional Tournament. The tournament opens at Thorne-Rider Stadium on August 11th.

The Colorado Rockies open up a home series with the San Diego Padres tonight. You can hear tonight’s game live on am 14-10 KWYO starting at 6:30.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc soccer team will be hosting a Soccer Camp August 7th through the 10th at Sheridan High School. The camp is open to all girls soccer players from the 7th through 12th grades. Head clinicians for this camp will be Shannon Macmillan a member of the 1996 US Olympic Gold Medal winning team and member of the 2000 silver medal winning team. The Sheridan Rec District will be hosting their annual fall Co-Rec Softball League. Registration opens Monday - play will begin August 21st and run through September. Games will be played on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

Registration for all little guy football both flag and tackle programs opens Monday as well and will run for one week. That’s registration for 1st and 2nd grade flag football 3rd and 4th grade flag and 5th and 6th grade tackle. All tackle players must have sports physicals completed before they can practice with their teams registration will run through August 5th.

The Sheridan Troopers dropped both ends of a double header in Miles City Montana last night. Both starting pitchers threw well but the Troops couldn’t get any timely hitting and lost by scores of 6-1 and 9-4. J.D. Williams pitched the first game with Eric Gillette getting the start in the second game. Friday night is your last chance to see the Troopers play this season as they host their regular season finale against Laramie at Thorne-Rider Stadium. They will have a special senior night ceremony before the game to honor the players playing their final game at Thorne-Rider. Again Friday night’s game is a single nine inning game with Laramie. The first pitch is expected to be tossed out at 7 o’clock.

The Sheridan Jets open up their district tournament in Douglas tomorrow. They open the tournament taking on top seed Wheatland at 10 o’clock tomorrow morning. The other district tournament is being played in Cody. The top four teams in each district tournament advance to play in the state tournament which will be played in Laramie starting August 2nd then the Jets host the Northwest Single “A” American Legion Regional Tournament at Thorne-Rider beginning August 11th. They host the state champions from Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Utah and Alaska.

In other baseball notes we will have live Colorado Rockies baseball tonight on am 14-10 KWYO. The Rockies host the final game of their three game series with St. Louis tonight live at 6:30.

The Sheridan County Junior Golf Association will host their final tournament outing for all Sheridan County boys and girls ages 8-17 Monday August 7th at The Powder Horn. The fee to play is 10 dollars per player which includes golf, lunch and swimming after the tournament. To register for this event you can stop by the golf shops at the Powder Horn, Kendrick Golf Course or the Sheridan Country Club.
 
The Denver Broncos open up the NFL pre-season with a road game at Detroit on August 11th. Once again season long live coverage of Broncos football will be broadcast on am 14-10 KWYO. The first game will be August 11th at Detroit at 6:30 pm.

The fall high school sports season will officially open next month on August 14th. All high school fall sports open practice on the 14th. All athletes must have sports physicals completed before they can practice with their teams. This includes all 5th and 6th grade little guy tackle football players.

Some 200 motorcycle riders plus around 100 support people made up the group that spent the night in Sheridan last night as the Kyle Petty Ride Across America for Charity rolls through Wyoming today. Throw in a handful of celebrities and a few thousand local onlookers last night made for a great evening of fun at the Sheridan Center. This is the 12th year for the Petty Ride Across America which takes a different route across the country each year. This year’s event started in Idaho and will wrap up in North Carolina. Petty joined the riders yesterday after driving in the Nascar event in Pocono Sunday. Also with the group last night was Paul Tuttle senior and his son Mikey from Orange County Choppers who presented a special bike they’ve created that will be auctioned off on line at the end of the ride. Also with the group last night Fresh Off competing at the British
Open was PGA player Davis Love III.

5000 dollars in local donations were presented to Petty last night as well as hats off to Judy Taylor and the rest of the staff at the Sheridan Center for putting on a good show last night and the thousands that turned out made it a great event. Tday the riders get back in the saddle for their next leg of the trip that will see them stop in Boulder Colorado tonight.
 
The Sheridan Troopers have just three regular season games left on their schedule tonight. Two of those games take place up in Miles City. Head coach john arras says their preparation for the state tournament has already begun. The state tournament opens in Cheyenne on August 2nd. The Troops beat Miles City twice in Sheridan back in June and Arras says they expect of good challenge from the Mavericks tonight. The Troopers will close out their regular season at home Friday night when they host a game with Laramie. It will be your last chance to see the Troopers play at home this year. It will be a single nine inning ball game scheduled to start at 7 o’clock.

The Sheridan Jets will open their district tournament Thursday in Douglas. The top four teams advance to the state tournament. The Wyoming state champs will join the Jets and the champs from Montana, Utah, Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Alaska in Sheridan for the Single “A” American Legion Northeast Regional Tournament which will get underway at Thorne-Rider Stadium August 11th.

The Colorado Rockies shut-out the St. Louis Cardinals 7-0 last night at Coors Field. The same two teams will play again tonight and you can hear the game live on am 14-10 KWYO starting with Rockies on deck at 6:30.

The Sheridan Troopers took two games from conference opponent Riverton yesterday at Thorne-Rider Stadium. The Troops Chris Reynolds took the mound in the first game and got great run support as the Troops hammered Riverton 18-0. They scored five in the first inning and added 10 more in the second, which pretty much ended it. Reynolds gave up only two hits in five inning of work to earn the win. The second game was completely different from the first game as the Troops ground out a 1-0 shut-out. Kyle Boyd got the win in the second game and really pitched tough. The Troops finish with a conference record of 9-3. Gillette currently sits at 7-3 and will play two at Riverton Wednesday. If they win both they tie the Troops for the conference title. If they lose either game the Troops are the outright champs which Arras says is a great accomplishment for the players.

The Troops play a double header tomorrow night up in Miles City and then close out the regular season at home Friday night hosting a single nine-inning game with Laramie. That will get underway at 7 o’clock. Then it’s onto the state tournament, which begins August 2nd in Cheyenne.

The Sheridan Jets closed out their regular season dropping both ends of a double header with Cody Saturday. They will be in Douglas later this week to compete in their district tournament. The Single “A” State Tournament will be played in Laramie starting August 2nd. The Single “A” Northwest Regional Tournament will be played in Sheridan starting August 11th at Thorne-Rider Stadium.

The Sheridan Sundowners Lions Club hosted the Sheridan Re-Max World Long Drive Contest qualifier out at the Big Horn Equestrian Center Saturday. Three individuals qualified to move onto the next round of qualifying. Two qualifiers were from billings and one from Sheridan. In the open division Kevin King of Billings won with a long drive of 392 yards. Second place went to Matt Stricker of Billings with a second place drive of 376 yards. Sheridan’s Bernie Spielman won the senior division with a drive of 342 yards. All three qualifiers now move onto the sectional qualifier. All proceeds from the event went to the Sheridan Sundowners Lions Club local youth eyeglasses program.

The Flying “H” Polo Club opened it’s 2006 season this past week. This will be the second season of world class polo at the Flying “H”. Admission for spectators is free. Flying “H” polo matches are played each week on Thursday afternoon at 1 and 3 o’clock and then again on Saturday afternoon at 1 and 3 o’clock. Bring your own blankets and chairs to sit on. You can also bring your own food and drinks but they do also provide on site concessions as well. The Flying “H” Polo Club is located south of Sheridan next to the Big Horn Equestrian Center.

The Sheridan Troopers have two home dates left on their regular season schedule. One will be Sunday the other will be next week on Friday and in between they play road games up in Miles City. Sunday afternoon the Troops host conference games against Riverton. They must win both to have a chance at collecting the regular season title and a number one seed for the state tournament. It’s a two-team race for the number one seed with Gillette. Sunday’s double header will start at 1 o’clock. The troops beat Riverton twice on the road and haven’t had a real great summer so far but Troops head coach John Arras says Riverton has improved a lot since the Troopers saw them a month ago. The Troopers play up in Miles City Tuesday and close out the regular season a week from today at home against Laramie. The Double “AA” State Tournament opens August 2nd in Cheyenne.

The Sheridan Jets host two games tonight against Gillette. The double header will get started at 5 o’clock tomorrow afternoon. They close out the regular season hosting two with Cody starting at 1 o’clock. Next week the Jets play at their district tournament in Douglas. The Single “A” State Tournament opens August 2nd in Laramie. The Jets host the Northwest Regional Single “A” Tournament at Thorne-Rider Stadium starting August 11th. Seven state champs will join the Jets in the field including the champs from Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Utah and Alaska.

The Colorado Rockies open a weekend series at the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight. You can hear tonight’s game live on am 14-10 KWYO starting at 7 o’clock.

The Sheridan Sundowners Lions Club wants all big hitters on the golf course to come out and test their skill against the rest of the big hitters in the Annual Re-Max World Long Driving Contest qualifier tomorrow at the Big Horn Equestrian Center. The contest will run from noon to 5 pm tomorrow. There are several age divisions from open to women and for seniors and super seniors. The cost varies depending on which group you compete in. 40 dollars for open and 30 dollars for the rest. Each contestant gets six balls to see how far they can hit a golf ball and contestants can enter as many times as they wish. All proceeds go to the Sheridan Sundownders Lions Club local youth eye glasses program.

In other local golf notes the next Sheridan County Junior Golf Tournament will be held Monday at the Sheridan Country Club. The tournament is open to all Sheridan County boys and girls ages 8 to 17. The tournament fee is ten dollars per player which covers the golf, lunch and swimming after play is open the final tournament will be played at The Powder Horn on August 7th.

They will have a team managers meeting at the Rec Office August 10th. All teams must have a representative at that meeting.

Sheridan Rec District little guy football registration opens July 31st. Registration will be for the 5-6 grade tackle league and the flag leagues for 1st and 2nd grades and 3rd and 4th grades. The Rec District will also host a fall adult Co-Rec Softball League. Games will be played on Monday’s and Wednesday’s. Team registration opens on July 31st and runs through August 11th.

The Troops are in a bit of a funk as they dropped their third and fourth games in a row last night as they got shut-out twice by Rapid City Post #320. They beat the Troopers by scores of 9-0 and 11-0. They have two big conference games left they are against Riverton Sunday. If they want a shot at the conference title they must win both games. The Troops beat Riverton in Riverton but Arras says Riverton has gotten much better over the last several weeks. The double header with Riverton is scheduled to start Sunday afternoon at 1 o’clock. Following the Riverton double header the troops will play at Miles City next Tuesday and close out the regular season at home against Laramie on July 28th.

The Sheridan Jets play Powell at home tonight starting at 5 o’clock. Tomorrow they host games with Gillette and Saturday they’re at home against Cody at 1 o’clock. Next week the Jets play at their district tournament in Douglas. The top four teams advance to the state tournament in Laramie, which gets underway August 2nd.

The Sheridan Sundowners Lions Club will host the Remax World Long Drive Qualifier at The Big Horn Equestrian Center Saturday afternoon. The contest has age groups from kids to seniors. The cost per entry is 30 dollars and each competitor will get 6 balls to hit. You can enter as many times as you want. The contest will open around noon Saturday where they will take your registration. All proceeds go to the Sundowner Lions Club to support their local youth activities.

In other golf notes the Sheridan County Junior Golf Association will host a youth golf tournament Monday at the Sheridan Country Club. The first event was held this past week at Kendrick Golf Course. The tournament is open to all junior golfers ages 8-17 the cost will be 10 dollars per player which includes the golf, lunch and swimming the final tournament will be on July 31st at The Powder Horn.

The Sheridan Speedway will host a special night of racing Sunday. It’s the Napa Auto Parts Muscular Dystophy Race. All proceeds raised Monday night will go directly to MDA. Gates at the Speedway open at 4:30 Sunday with races getting started around 6:30. admission is ten dollars per person with kids getting in for free.

The Colorado Rockies lost 6-4 yesterday at Pittsburgh. That’s nine out of there last ten games. They’re off tonight and will open a weekend series at Arizona tomorrow. You can hear tomorrow’s game at 7 o’clock on am 14-10 KWYO.

The Sheridan Troopers played a conference double header in Gillette last night and saw their 10 game winning streak come to an end and the conference race tighten up a bit after the Roughriders swept last night’s games from the Troopers. The Troops couldn’t catch a break all night and gave up the lead in both games. They dropped the first game 4-1 and the second game 10-7. They are now 7-3 in league play. Gillette is 5-3 and will play Riverton four times to end the conference season. The Troops already own two wins over Riverton and must sweep the Raiders in Sheridan Sunday afternoon to have a chance to win the conference title. Gillette holds the tiebreaker over the Troops after winning three out of four of their conference games against Sheridan. The Troops don’t get much time to rest. They host a double header with Rapid City Post #320 tonight. Head coach John Arras says they need to get last night behind them and get ready for two games tonight. The first game tonight will get started at 5 o’clock, Sunday the Troops host Riverton. That double-header will get underway at 1 0’clock.

In other American Legion baseball notes; the Sheridan Jets close out their regular season this week with three straight home double headers. The Jets host Powell tomorrow night at 5 o’clock. On Friday they host games with Gillette at 5 o’clock and close-out the regular season at home Saturday afternoon at 1 o’clock against Cody. Next weekend they’ll play at their district tournament in Cody where the top four teams advance to play in the state tournament. Even if the Jets don’t qualify for the state championships they will still play in the northwest single “A” regional tournament as the host team. The regional will open August 11th at Thorne-Rider Stadium. The Jets will host the state champs from Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Alaska.

Coming up this weekend the Sheridan Speedway will host a special event during racing Sunday evening. It’s the Napa / Muscular Dystrophy night at the races. All proceeds raised from Sunday night’s races will go to M.D.A. The event is being co-sponsored by Sheridan Media. Tickets are 10 dollars for adults with admission for kids 12 and under free. The drivers will also hold a dollar race for all the kids. Drivers will be dropping dollar bills on the track and kids will be invited out to see how many they can pick-up gates at the speedway open at 4:30 with racing at 6:30.

The Sheridan Junior Golf Association’s next junior golf event will be Monday at the Sheridan Country Club, Sheridan County junior golf tournaments are open to all boys and girls in Sheridan County ages 8-17. The cost of Monday’s tournament will be 10 dollars per golfer which will include the golf, lunch and swimming afterwards. The junior golf season ends Monday July 31st at The Powder Horn. The Sheridan Rec District would like to announce that Redle Field in Thorne-Rider Park and Barney Park on the south end of the park will be closed beginning today. The Rec District is installing a new irrigation system. Both areas will be closed until the project is completed for more information you can call the Sheridan Recreation District at 674-6421.

The Sheridan Troopers are riding high these days. They lead the north conference by two games. They’ve won ten in a row and tonight they have a chance to wrap up the regular season north conference championship when they play two games at second place Gillette. The Troopers and Gillette split their first two games in Sheridan back in mid June and they haven’t seen each other since.  Head coach John Arras ays it would be a great accomplishment for the players and the program if they could win the regular season crown this year. Tonight’s games in the Razor City get underway at 5 o’clock. The Troops play at home tomorrow night against Rapid City Post #320 starting at 5 o’clock and if they don’t get it done in Gillette tonight they will have another chance to do it Sunday afternoon when they host two conference games with Riverton. They wrap up the regular season at home July 28th against Laramie then it’s onto the state tournament in Cheyenne starting August 2nd.

The Sheridan Jets have a busy week of games at home. They play Powell in a double header Thursday at 5 o’clock then Gillette Friday at 5 o’clock and Cody Saturday afternoon at 1 o’clock. The Cody double header will end the regular season then it’s over to Cody for the district tournament then the state single “A” tournament in Laramie starting August 2nd. Sheridan hosts the single “A” northwest regional starting August 11th.

The Sheridan County Junior Golf Association got their tournament schedule underway yesterday. The first of three junior golf days in Sheridan County took place at Kendrick Golf Course. Next week on Monday they will play at the Sheridan Country Club and the following Monday July 31st they will wrap up the series with a tournament at The Powder Horn. Sheridan County Junior Golf Association events are open to all boys and girls ages 8 to 17. The cost to play in the Country Club and Powder Horn events is 10 dollars per player, which includes the golf, lunch and swimming after the tournament. We are less than a month away from the start of the high school fall sports season. The first official practice for all fall sports will be Monday August 14th. All junior high and high school athletes along with all Sheridan Rec. District little guy tackle football players must have sports physicals completed before they will be allowed to practice with their teams. Little guy football registration opens in a couple of weeks.

The Colorado Rockies have lost eight straight and have fallen 5 games back in the national league western division. The Rocks are currently playing a series in Pittsburgh. Last night the Pirates beat the Rockies 3-1. Our next Rockies broadcast will be Friday when they open a weekend series at Arizona. The 2006 Wyo Rodeo set attendance records as expected. Nearly 14,000 spectators watched the three-day rodeo. The total purse of 189,000 dollars fell a bit short of expectations buy will still keep the Sheridan Wyo rodeo firmly among the top 50 rodeo’s in the country. Yesterday the rodeo closed out with a cool down day at the Big Horn Equestrian Center with polo matches. Board member and Wyo Rodeo Historian Tom Ringley says 2006 will go down as one of the best ever.

Friday morning’s rodeo activities were well attended downtown. One of the events is the Spurs and Sneakers Fun Run. Trevor Jackson caught up with Sheridan High School senior John Rottelini after the race. The fall sports season gets underway in about a month. Rottelini and his Cross Country teammates will open practice pretty soon and he says he’s had a good summer of work-outs and the team makes the Wyo Fun Run part of their summer work-out schedule. The Sheridan Broncs and Lady Bronc cross country teams officially open their season August 25th at an invitational in Casper.

The Sheridan Troopers own a ten game winning streak and are 25-18 on the season after sweeping a double-header last night against Sturgis South Dakota. They took the first game 6-1 and the second game 11-1. The Troopers have 10 games left on their regular season schedule as they enter the dog days of the season and Arras says the credit of this run goes to the players. Arras says they wouldn’t be where they are right now without the efforts of their pitching staff. Tomorrow the Troopers have a chance to wrap up the regular season title when they play two in Gillette. They need to sweep the roughriders tomorrow night to win the title outright or they will have to wait until Sunday’s home double header with Riverton.

The 76th addition of the Sheridan Wyo Rodeo is already on record pace not only for drawing the largest crowds ever for the annual event but also in prize money thanks to the addition of 1300 more seats at the fairgrounds. A big Thursday night crowd welcomed the best the PRCA has to offer at last night’s first performance and if tonight and tomorrow hold true 2006 will go down in the books with the highest attendance ever. Also this year the Wyo Rodeo Board is expected to set another record for total purse at over 200,000 dollars. Tonight’s second performance gets underway at 7 pm.

The Sheridan Troopers have won eight straight and lead the north conference race by three games with four games to play. Sunday afternoon you’ll be able to see the Troops go for ten consecutive wins as they host two games with Sturgis South Dakota. The first game is scheduled to get underway at 3 o’clock next Tuesday. The Troops will have a chance to officially wraps up the regular season conference title when they play two games at Gillette. They need at least a split of that double header to win the conference title outright.

All the waiting is over as slack action got underway yesterday at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds as steer wrestlers, calf ropers and team ropers all got their events started. Today there will be more slack with steer roping highlighting today’s action. The first performance of the rodeo begins at 7 o’clock tonight with an opening round of World Championship Indian Relay Racing.

Tomorrow join us here on news / talk 930 KROE for our traditional live Friday rodeo broadcast downtown. The Sheridan Commercial Company is sponsoring tomorrow’s broadcast. We’ll begin at 6 o’clock at the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast at 8 o’clock. The Wyo Rodeo Fun Run begins and ends at main and Grinnell. The Sheridan Media / Sheridan Jaycees Bed Races will get underway at 9 o’clock and we will conclude our coverage with the live broadcast of the Wyo Rodeo Parade at 10 o’clock. Bob Grammens, Kurt Smith from the Sheridan Commercial Company and our very own Ace Young will be our broadcast team during the parade.

The Sheridan Troopers have a few days off to enjoy rodeo week activities. Sunday they get back into action hosting games with Spearfish South Dakota. That double header will get started at 5 o’clock Sunday evening. The Troopers have won 14 of 18 games since starting a long road swing that started back on June 22nd. Sunday’s games with Sturgis will be a chance to keep the momentum going and they’ll get a good tune up before heading to Gillette for road conference games next week. Finally Arras says the Troopers have been playing well but there is no need to get to far ahead of themselves with several big games coming up and the state tournament just three weeks away. Again the Troopers will play at home Sunday evening against Sturgis South Dakota. The first game will start at 5 o’clock.

On the local golf front the Sheridan County Junior Golf Association is getting ready to host their Junior Golf Days starting Monday. The Junior golf program is open to all girls and boys ages 8 to 17. Monday’s event will take place at Kendrick Golf Course. The fee is 5 dollars per junior. Lunch will be provided. The second event will be at the Sheridan Country Club on Monday July 24th and will include lunch and swimming following play. The final event will be at The Powder Horn August 7th which will also include lunch and swimming. The fee for the final two events will be 10 dollars each. Registration forms are available at all three courses.

The Sheridan Youth Activities Association will host its Annual Fundraising Golf Tournament at Kendrick Golf Course Saturday. It’s a four-person team scramble and will shotgun start at 9 o’clock Saturday morning. Proceeds from this event go to support youth sports and activities in Sheridan County. They will have two hole in one prizes including a car from Sheridan Motor and a Big Dog Bike from Valley Motor Honda. To register a team stop by Kendrick Golf Course.

The Sheridan Troopers swept the Casper Oilers at Thorne-Rider Stadium last night and take the season series with the Oilers 5 games to one. The Troops rattled the bats got great pitching and played pretty good defense outscoring Casper 14-1 in the double header. Chris Reynolds got the win in the first game as the Troops shut-out Casper 8-0. Kyle Boyd got the win in game two as Casper scored their only run of the night in the first inning but the Troops came right back to take the lead and win the game 6-1. The Troopers hit the ball hard last night including home runs from Zach Hurst and Chris Reynolds in the first game but up and down the line up all the Troopers hitters got good hacks in last night. The Troops have been hot over the last two and half weeks. They’ve won 14 of 18 including a 12-4 record during a 16 game road swing.

The Troops are now 25-18 overall and 7-1 in conference play. They’ve clinched at least second place in the conference and will play in Gillette next week. They need a split in that double header to clinch the over all conference title. They play at home Sunday evening at 5 o’clock against Sturgis South Dakota.

Slack competition for timed events opens this morning at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds. They’ll have tie-down roping, team roping and some bulldogging today. Tomorrow will feature steer roping. Slack is free to all spectators. Also, today the Wyo Rodeo Golf Tournament will be held at the Sheridan Country Club this afternoon. Lunch at noon scramble shot gun at 1 o’clock followed by the Wyo Calcutta. More slack tomorrow starting at 7 o’clock. The first performance of the Wyo Rodeo will be at 7 o’clock and will begin with the grand entry and the first round of World Championship Indian Relays

The Sheridan Troopers host a conference double header tonight against the Casper Oilers. These games will be the first home games for the Troops since June 20th. That’s 16 straight on the road that didn’t seem to bother the players as they went 12-4 over those 16 games. The troops are 6 games over .500 and sit in first place in the north conference. If they can get a couple more tonight they would make a big move toward winning the conference title and a number one seed into the state tournament but they still have to get by the Oilers tonight. The first game is scheduled to get underway at 5 o’clock.

Sheridan Wyo Rodeo Week officially kicks off tonight with the “Boot Kick Off” in Kendrick Park. Tomorrow night “Asleep At The Wheel” performs at the Wyo Theater. Also, tomorrow rodeo action begins with slack timed events at the fairgrounds beginning at 7 o’clock. There will also be more slack action Thursday morning. New to the fairgrounds and to the rodeo this year is the addition of 1300 more seats on the south and east side of the arena.

Last year’s Wyo Rodeo set an all time record payout of over 191,000 dollars in prize money. This year the rodeo board is expecting to crack the 200,000 dollar barrier. Board member Tracy Swanson says the Wyo has not only a great tradition but great respect from the PRCA because this rodeo remains one of the top 50 rodeo’s in the country year in and year out despite a lot of competition from other community rodeo’s.

One of the highlights of the 76th Wyo rodeo will be the Annual Parade which begins at 10 o’clock Friday morning. Parade chairperson Judy Taylor says the 76th addition of the Wyo Rodeo Parade will have something for everyone in the crowd.

Wyo Rodeo Week kicks-off tomorrow in Kendrick Park with the Boot Kickoff and BBQ. Activities start at 5:30. This year the wyo rodeo board is expecting a total purse of over 200 thousand dollars. Board president Billy Craft says the Wyo as we know it today came about several years ago when the board decided to breath new life into the rodeo. Board member Tracy Swanson says rodeo is one of the best spectator sports because it’s non-stop action for three hours. Each performance will be highlighted with the World Championship Indian Relay Races will start each performance. Make sure you’re in your seat at 7 o’clock for the start of this fan favorite. Swanson says the relays have taken on a life of their own and gives credit to board member Roger St. Clair for his work in making it all happen.

The Boot Kick Off opens up Wyo Rodeo Week tomorrow night. On Wednesday morning slack timed events will open at 7 o’clock in the fairgrounds arena. There will also be slack Thursday morning. Also on Wednesday the Wyo Rodeo Golf Tournament will be played at the Sheridan Country Club. They will also have the Annual Bob King memorial roping in the afternoon and the first performance at 7 o’clock Thursday night.

The Sheridan Troopers have won six straight games after sweeping road games in Rapid City and Spearfish. The Troops took two in Rapid City against Post #320 and then sweeping Spearfish to run their record to 22-18 overall. They are 5-1 in conference play and will host games with the Casper Pilers tomorrow night. The first game of the double header will get underway at 5 o’clock. They will also play two at home Sunday against Sturgis South Dakota at 1 o’clock.
The Sheridan County Junior Golf Program will host three tournaments for all Sheridan County boys and girls ages 8 to 17. The first event will be held at Kendrick Golf Course a week from today on the 17th. After that the next event will be on the 24th at the Sheridan Country Club and the final stop will be at The Powder Horn on August 7th. The fee for each event will be five dollars at Kendrick and 10 dollars at the Country Club and Powder Horn which will also include swimming after the golf and every competitor will also receive lunch with their entry fee. The Sheridan Troopers played in Rapid City last night. They’ll play two in Spearfish tonight, then they come off the road for games at home Tuesday when they open a home double header with the Casper Oilers. They haven’t played at Thorne-Rider since June 20th. As of today the Troops lead the north conference race. Conference records will seed the teams for the state tournament. Sheridan is ranked number one in the north conference right now with road sweeps over Casper and Riverton. They split with Gillette at home Tuesday. The Troops could make a big move in the over all race if they can sweep Casper, that double header will start at 5 o’clock Tuesday evening. Following the games with Casper the Troops will host two with Sturgis South Dakota Sunday, July 16th then host Rapid City Post #320 on the 19th. The Troopers have only 5 home dates left on their schedule which will end the regular season at home against Laramie July 28th. The class double “AA” state tournament opens August 2nd. In Cheyenne with the state champs earning a bid into the Northwest Regional, which will open August 9th at Mike :ansing Field in Casper.

The Sheridan Jets have only six more dates left on their schedule. The Jets end the regular season July 22nd at home against Cody then over to their district tournament in Cody. The top eight teams in both districts qualify for the state tournament which will be played in Laramie opening August 2nd then Sheridan and Thorne-Rider Stadium will host the northwest regional single “A” American tournament opening August 11th. The Jets will be the host team and will be joined in the tournament field by the state champs from Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Alaska.

On major league baseball notes the Colorado Rockies enter the weekend tied for the national league western division lead. The Rockies host Arizona tonight, Saturday and Sunday. All three games will be broadcast live on am 14-10 KWYO. The major league all-star break starts Monday with the game Tuesday. Matt Holiday and Brian Fuentes will represent the Rockies in the mid summer classic.

The 2006 line up for the Wyo Rodeo Parade will have well over 100 entries according to parade director Judy Taylor. As of Wednesday as many as 120 entries are now set for next week’s parade with more late entries expected the parade will culminate Friday’s downtown festivities which open at 6 am with the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast followed by the rodeo Fun Run and the Sheridan Jaycees Bed Races. The Sheridan Troopers are 5-1 in the north conference leading by three games over Gillette and Casper with Riverton bringing up the rear. Next week the Troopers open their second round of conference games and will have a great opportunity to put even more distance between themselves and the rest of the pack. But first things first road games today and tomorrow over in Rapid City and Spearfish. Last week the Troops split four games in Rapid and Sturgis. Tonight they play at Post #22, a team that beat the Troops twice in Sheridan in June. Tomorrow they take on Spearfish. They split with them in a home double header last month as well. As they begin play tonight the Troops are 16-16 on the season and 5-1 in league play. The next home games for the Troops will be at Thorne-Rider Stadium next Tuesday July 11th against the Casper Oilers.

Next week is 2006 Sheridan Wyo Rodeo Week. Tickets for all the performances of the rodeo and all associated activities can be purchased at the Wyo Theater Box Office. The week opens with the Boot Kick Off in Kendrick Park. This year Grammy Award Winning “Asleep At The Wheel” will perform at the Wyo Theater. The first day of action will be a week from today when competition opens at the fairgrounds with slack timed events in the morning then the first performance at 7 o’clock. The Colorado Rockies are in first place in the National League West for the first time this season after beating San Francisco yesterday 6-1. The Rocks are now tied with Los Angles and San Diego in the western division lead. The last time the Rockies were in first place on the 4th of July was back in 2000. What a difference a year makes. Last year the Rockies were dead last in the west and stayed there for the rest of the season. Our next Rockies broadcast will be Friday night when they open a weekend home series with Arizona. That game can be heard live on am 14-10 KWYO starting at 6:30.

Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday. Two Rockies have been named to the team. They are outfielder Matt Holiday who is currently 4th in the National League in batting with an average of .343. Joining holiday will be closer Brian Fuentes

The Sheridan Troopers lost both ends of a double header against Rapid City Post #320 Friday night. The Troops JD Williams threw a great game but was the tough luck loser. Williams threw a 5 hitter but didn’t get any run support and Troops lost the opener 1-0/ Post #320 took the second game by a score of 6-1. After dropping those two the Troops came back and swept a double header at Sturgis Saturday. Kyle Boyd and Chris Reynolds tagged teamed the first game and combined to throw a one-hitter as the Troops won the game 2-1. Boyd got the win in the second game. The Troops really rattled the bats as they banged out 16 hits in a 16-9 win. The Troopers are 16-16 on the season and still lead the North Conference with a 5-1 record. They are off until Wednesday when they head back to Rapid City for games with Post #22 and then to Spearfish on Thursday. They then have a few days off to prepare for their next round of conference games when they host two with Casper on the 11th.

The Sheridan Country Club will host a 4th of July Golf Tournament tomorrow. It’s an individual event with golfers playing the Electra Format. Players play nine holes and then go out and try and better their score on the back nine. They will have a BBQ lunch and then hold a derby in the afternoon for all the players. The fee to play is 60 dollars for men and 50 dollars for women which includes the golf, lunch and derby. The tournament will shot gun start at 10 am.

The Colorado Rockies beat Seattle 4-3 in 11 innings yesterday and with the all-star break just a week away the Rocks are just a half game back in the national league west.
