The Troopers and Gillette played one of the best games we’ve seen at Thorne-Rider Stadium in the last couple of years. The first game of last night’s conference double header was a classic pitchers duel with the Troops Chris Reynolds out dueling Ryan Illif from Gillette in Sheridan’s 1-0 win. Reynolds was really tough. He gave up only three hits, struck out eight and walked one. The Troopers got the 1-0 win in a pitchers duel in the first game but it was going to take a lot more runs in the second game and Gillette was able to get out to an early 7-2 lead. The Troops cut the lead to 7-6 but Gillette scored a bunch of runs in the last two innings for a 15-8 win and earned a split of last night’s double-header. Kyle Boyd was saddled with the loss in the second game but threw well after a rough start. The Troopers are off today but come back for another home double header tomorrow against Miles City Montana. It’s an early start tomorrow at 3 o’clock and for a little different look the teams will play with wood bats. Arras says it won’t be anything new to the Troopers.

Miles City plays with only wood bats since the death of pitcher Brandon Patch three years ago. Patch was killed when he was hit in the head by a line drive that was hit by a metal bat. This past week Miles City forfeited conference games against Bozeman Montana because Bozeman refused to play with the wood bats. Again the first game tomorrow will be played at 3 o’clock.

Make no mistake the Sheridan / Gillette rivalry carries over big time. The first game of tonight’s double-header will start at 5 o’clock. Following tonight’s games the Troops are off tomorrow and will host two games with Miles City Montana Thursday. The first game Thursday will start at 3 o’clock.
