01/31/06

The Sheridan high school indoor track teams are a month into their season. Head coach Art Bauers says the improvement the athletes are making week to week is amazing. Last Friday they competed at a meet in Spearfish South Dakota. Saturday they head back to Spearfish for an even bigger meet. This year there will be a state indoor track meet in late February then a week later the outdoor season begins.

The Sheridan Bronc swimmers and divers are a tired bunch at this point in their season. The swimmers have been in the pool since last fall. Diver Josh Brown is in his first year of diving. Last week Brown met the qualifying standards for the state championships. The Broncs have two regular season meets left on their schedule Friday at home against Riverton and over to Gillette Saturday then onto the regionals February 10th. Head coach Larry White says this team is a hard working group

The Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles have games this week with Sundance and Rocky Mountain. They both play at Sundance Friday. Saturday the girls are at home with the Eagles playing at Rocky Mtn. over in Byron. Last weekend the Lady Eagles dropped their second conference game of the season. That was at Wright Friday but came back with a home win over Greybull.  The Eagles are on a roll. They are riding an eight game winning streak and remain unbeaten in conference play.

The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals are glad to be home. Both teams have been on the road since January 17th and Saturday they begin round two of north-sub region play but this time around all three games will be played in the Hoffman Dome. They start with Miles City Saturday night. The Lady Generals are 2-1 in sub region play while the Generals swept all three on the road at Miles City, Dawson and Northwest. The men’s region nine tournament opens March 4th and it could be held in Sheridan if the Generals win the north sub region. Games Saturday night are set for 6 and 8 pm in the Hoffman Dome.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc basketball teams play the Casper schools this week. The Lady Broncs are 2-1 in conference play and could make a move into second place in the league with a couple of victories this week. Head coach Mark Elliott says the young Lady Broncs are making good progress and he expects good battles with Kelly Walsh and Natrona County. They play at Kelly Walsh Friday night and host Natrona Saturday.

The Broncs continue to plug away. They haven’t had a lot of success on the court this year but show no signs of packing it in. The Broncs host Kelly Friday and play at Natrona County Saturday night.

The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams spend another weekend at home Friday. They host conference games with Moorcroft and host non-conference games Saturday with Kaycee.

The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers will compete this weekend at the Riverton Invitational. Next Thursday the 9th they wrestle at home for the final time hosting a conference dual with Gillette.

The Wyoming Cowboys are coming off a stunning over time loss to San Diego State and will play tomorrow night against Utah. You can hear the game live on am 14-10 KWYO starting with Cowboy pre-game at 6:30 the tip is at 7 o’clock.

The Sheridan Knights of Columbus free throw shooting contest took place Saturday at the Hoffman Dome and here are the results: winners in the 10 year old division were Sarah Rawlings and Will O’dell. The 11 year old winners were Alexandra Eisele and Anthony Newlon. The 12 year old winners were Whitney Gifford and Chris Cremer. The 13 year old boys the winner was Alex Welch and the 14 year old girls winner was Aspen Rawlings. There were no entries for the girls 13 year old or boys 14 year old division. All winners advance to the state competition. Also Anthony Newlon and Whitney Gifford were honored for being the top shooters of the day.

The Sheridan Hawks hockey team will be back in action this weekend after a week off. The Hawks have league games in Gillette starting Friday. They’ll play three games this weekend. They open Friday night against Gillette, Saturday vs Douglas and end the weekend against Cody Sunday. The Hawks are 16-1-1 on the season and remain unbeaten in Wyoming league play. Their only loss of the season came two weeks ago up in Billings. Next weekend the Hawks will host another round of Wyoming league games in Sheridan. February 11th and 12th they have games scheduled with Cheyenne, Cody and Riverton.

The Generals had not lost a game since November 10th going into Saturday night’s game in Sterling Colorado. Head coach Joel Davidson says they fell behind big early and charged back only to come up short in the second overtime. The players took the loss in stride after 19 consecutive victories. The Generals and Lady Generals host games with Miles City Saturday night.

The Tongue River Lady Eagles lost at Wright Friday night. Wright then turned around and knocked out Moorcroft Saturday and as Moser says they ran into a hot team. Now with Wright sweeping their games over the weekend the conference race just got interesting.

The Eagles had a strong weekend starting with a blow out victory at Wright. Then they came out and played a great game in a close win over Greybull Saturday.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc basketball teams had a tough time with the Gillette teams over the weekend. The Lady Camels blew open a tight game and ran away from the Lady Broncs in the second half Friday. They take on the Casper schools this week

The Broncs got rocked by Gillette in the razor city Saturday night. With more conference action this week they must put Saturday night’s disappointment behind them.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc indoor track team competed in Spearfish South Dakota Friday after a couple of weeks off. Head coach Art Bauers says all the kids used the time off well and really improved their times. A month into the season their excited with all their success. They compete at another meet Saturday back in Spearfish.

The Broncs swimmers and divers won their first dual meet of the season Friday beating Casper Natrona. Heads up diver Josh Brown qualified for the state meet and head coach Larry White says the Broncs remain focused and it’s paying off.
The Big Horn Lady Rams took two out of three games last week with wins over Kaycee and Riverside before dropping a game at home with Sundance Saturday. The Rams were missing head coach Josh Hatch this past weekend with Hatch in Colorado getting married. The Rams lost a two pointer to Riverside Friday and droped their game with Sundance Saturday 50-39. The Rams and Lady Rams get to spend this weekend at home hosting a conference game with Moorcroft and a non-conference game with Kaycee.

The Lady Bronc basketball team and Gillette are tied at 2-0 in the north conference and the Lady Broncs know they are in for a tough game. Head coach Mark Elliott says the Lady Broncs must control the pace of play. We will broadcast the game live on am 14-10 KWYO starting at 7:30.

The Broncs play at Gillette Saturday and they also know that they will be facing a team playing very well on their home court. Head coach Mike Ibach says the Broncs have to slow Gillette’s running game down. The game is live tomorrow night in Gillette at 7:30 on KWYO.

The Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles play conference games at Wright this evening. The Lady Eagles are tied with Moorcroft for the conference lead and head coach Diane Moser says tonight’s game is big for the Lady Eagles. The Eagles own the outright conference lead heading into action tonight they are expecting a tough game against one of their biggest rivals. Both teams play non-conference games at home tomorrow against Greybull with the boys varsity game at 2:30 and the girls will go at 5:30.

The Big Horn Lady Rams beat Kaycee on the road last night 34-28. Today they join the Rams hosting non-conference games with Riverside. Varsity game times are at 5 and 6:30. Saturday they host conference games with Sundance at 2:30 and 4 o’clock.

The Sheridan College Generals put their national ranking and their 18 game winning streak on the line this weekend with road games at Laramie County tonight and Northeastern Colorado tomorrow. These will be their 4th and 5th straight on the road. The Generals are 3-0 in the north sub region and play three more at home with a great opportunity to win the north title and host the region nine tournament. Davidson says it looks good right now but they still have plenty of basketball to play before reaching that goal.

The Lady Generals are back in their sub region title chase by winning 2 out of 3 on the road this past week. After their game at NJC tomorrow the end of the regular season is in sight. Head coach Frank McCarthy says they’ll get another good test tomorrow night.

The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers will be in Cody Saturday for conference duals against Cody and Riverton. The Broncs will compete at the Riverton Invitational next weekend and then host their final home match of the season against Gillette February 9th.

The Sheridan Bronc swimmers and divers host a conference double dual today with Casper Natrona and Casper Kelly Walsh. Action starts at 4 o’clock at the Sheridan Jr. High pool.

The Bronc and Lady Bronc indoor track athletes will compete at a meet in Spearfish South Dakota this afternoon.

The Sheridan College men’s basketball program is back in the national spotlight this week and the place the program has been accustomed to for the last several seasons, ranked in the top 20 national junior college poll. The latest poll was released Tuesday with the Generals debuting in the 20th spot just hours before their victory over Northwest College. The Generals haven’t lost since November 10th and over that time they’ve won 18 straight and stand at 20-2. Not only is it great news for the players but recognition for the college and community as well. The Generals play at Laramie County in Cheyenne Friday and Sterling Colorado Saturday before returning to Sheridan to play six of their last seven regular season games in the Hoffman Dome. The big prize at the end of the season is to host the men’s region nine tournament. For the Generals to host the tournament they must beat Northwest, Miles City and Dawson at home next month and if they accomplish that feat the tournament would open in Sheridan March 4th.

The Lady Generals have been playing pretty good basketball lately. They’ve won four out of their last five including a 2-1 road trip to open sub region play. Head coach Frank McCarthy says winning at Northwest Tuesday put them back in the north sub region chase. The Lady Generals play at Northeastern Colorado Saturday night. The next home dates for both teams will be on February 4th when they host Miles City

The Sheridan Lady Broncs host the Gillette Lady Camels in an early season north conference showdown. The game tomorrow night will be for the outright conference lead and the Lady Broncs know they are in for a battle with the state’s number one ranked team. We will broadcast tomorrow night’s game live on am 14-10 KWYO starting at 7:30.

The Broncs take their shot at number one Saturday night when they play at Gillette. The Camels have beaten some good teams this season and are 2-0 in the conference after road wins at Cody and Riverton last week. With the camels being so good on their home court head coach Mike Ibach says the Broncs won’t have a lot of time to get themselves settled into the game they must play under control emotionally and show a lot of poise. We will broadcast the game live from Gillette for you Saturday night at 7:30 on KWYO.

The Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles have road conference games at Wright tomorrow. Both teams already have home wins over the Panthers and Lady Panthers. Eagles head coach Larry Moser expects a good battle tomorrow and fans should see a great game.

The Lady Eagles are back on the winning track since losing their only game of the season three weeks ago in Moorcroft. They did avenge that loss last Saturday and head coach Diane Moser says the Lady Eagles are coming off a good win.

The Big Horn Lady Rams play at Kaycee tonight. They host Riverside Friday and a conference game with Sundance Saturday. The Rams will join the Lady Rams in those home games this weekend.

We start off with a Sheridan Hawks Hockey update. We told you about the Hawks scheduling two games with Gillette Sunday apparently our information may have been a bit pre-mature those games we have learned are still tentative so stay tuned over the next couple of days and we’ll let you know if the Hawks are playing or taking the weekend off.

The Sheridan Broncs dropped their dual match at Buffalo last night but the most important matches of the week take place in Cody Saturday when the Broncs have conference duals with Cody and Riverton.

The Tongue River Eagles and lady Eagles play conference games at Wright Friday and at home in non-conference action against Greybull Saturday the Lady Eagles are tied for the conference lead with Moorcroft with one loss each. They both beat each other so Moorcroft will have to stumble over the next month for the Lady Eagles to be able to win the conference title.

The Eagles sit atop the conference standings today. They beat Wright at home earlier in the season but head coach Larry Moser says they expect a stiff challenge from the Panthers. Most fans think that the Tongue River rivalry with Big Horn is intense. Tongue River fans, players and coaches believe the rivalry with Wright is even more intense.

The Gillette Camels and Lady Camels are already flexing their muscle in January. This week both teams are ranked number one in class 4-A with the Broncs and Lady Broncs. The next in line trying to knock them off, the girls will go first in Sheridan Friday then the boys game will be played over in the Razor City Saturday night.

The Lady Broncs are 11-4 on the season and tied with Gillette at 2-0 in the north conference. They host the Lady Camels Friday night at 7:30. You’ll be able to hear the game live on am 14-10 KWYO.

The Broncs will play in Gillette Saturday night. The varsity game will tip at 7:30 and we will broadcast all the action to you live on am 14-10 KWYO. The Broncs have had a tough go of it so far this season and after suffering two close losses on the road in Riverton and Cody an upset Saturday would be huge for the team. Head coach Mike Ibach says Gillette’s home court is going to be a tough place to pick up their first conference win.

Again we will have the Lady Broncs live Friday night and the Broncs Saturday night live on KWYO starting at 7:30.

The Arvada/ Clearmont girls are one of two unbeaten teams left in Wyoming high school basketball this week. The other is in their class but in a different conference Guernsey. The Lady Vikings are ranked number one this week with the Lady Panthers ranked number two. Both teams will probably meet for the first time next month in the East Regionals the week before the state tournament but there is still a lot of basketball to be played until that anticipated match-up. Lady Panthers head coach Bill Joy says the young Lady Panthers have shown great maturity for a bunch of underclassmen. They get another great challenge with two tough conference games this week. They host Kaycee Friday and play at Upton Saturday Lady Panthers junior point guard Randa Claybaugh says the players are having a great time being 12-0 and after a disappointing finish at the state tournament last spring they are looking forward to finishing what they started last year.

The Big Horn Lady Rams will play three games this week. They start with a non-conference game at Kaycee tomorrow then they join the Rams hosting class 2-A rival Riverside Friday before finishing the week off with home conference games with Sundance Saturday. Games Friday will be at 5 and 6:30 and Saturday at 2:30 and 4 o’clock.

The Wyoming Cowboys renew their conference rivalry with Colorado State tonight. The Pokes are right in front of the Rams in the Mountain West conference standings as they meet tonight in Fort Collins. We will have the game live for you tonight on am 14-10 KWYO starting with the Cowboy pre-game show at 6:30 the tip is at 7 o’clock.

In other local sports notes today the Sheridan Knights of Columbus will host their hoop shoot free throw shooting contest Saturday in the Hoffman Dome at Sheridan College. The contest is open to all boys and girls ages 10-14. Shooting begins at 2:30 check in starts at 2 o’clock. All winners will advance to the state competition.

The Sheridan Chapter of Ducks Unlimted will host their annual banquet Saturday night at the Sheridan Holiday Inn. Today is the final day to purchase tickets for the event. Chairmen PJ Kane says you can purchase tickets today at Kings Saddlery or Quick Print. Tickets will be available until 5 o’clock this evening. The banquet will open at 5:30 Saturday night with dinner at 7 o’clock.

In high school football news today the north squad for this summer’s shrine bowl football game has been selected. Two members from the Big HornRrams, two players from Sheridan High School and one from Tongue River have been named to play in the annual game in June. From Big Horn Ryan Nelson and Kane Ree along with Sheridan Broncs seniors Reece Hall and Joe Hruska. They will be joined by tongue river’s Tony Osthiemer. Four players from the two time defending state 3-A champion Buffalo Bison were also named to the north squad Chris Prozinski, John Camino, Kyle Cummings and Josh Smith.

The Wyoming Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame have announced their finalists for the scholar football athletes of the year. 17 players from Wyoming have been nominated and will receive 1000-dollar scholarships and will have their names inscribed in the National College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend Indiana. Three players from Buffalo have been named finalists including chris prozinski who will continue his football career at the University of Wyoming. Prozinski’s teamates  John Camino and Spencer Young were also named to the Wyoming finalists list.

The Sheridan Hawks lost their first game of the season this past weekend in Billings in non-league action. They tied Billings senior at 2 in the first game and lost the second game 4-3. The Hawks now have a record of 16-1-1 but remain unbeaten in Wyoming league play. They will play two non-league games in Sheridan Sunday against the “Gillette Wild”. Games are scheduled for 9:30 am and at 12:30 in the afternoon.

The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers have a non- conference dual in Buffalo tonight. Head coach Corey Hamrick says the Broncs are in for a tough night.

The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals have more north sub region games on the road tonight at Northwest College in Powell. These games are very important for both teams. The Generals are 2-0 in the sub region winning at Miles City and Glendive Montana this past weekend. A victory tonight would almost guarantee they would host the region nine tournament in March. The Generals are 19-2 and have won 17 straight. Head coach Joel Davidson talks about this current streak. The Generals haven’t lost since losing to third ranked Indian Hills Community College in Iowa November 10th and Davidson and the players know Northwest will be looking to ambush them in Powell tonight.

The Lady Generals are 1-1 in sub region play splitting in Montana last weekend and they need to win tonight to stay in the chase for first place in the north sub region race.

Both Gillette teams are currently ranked #1 in class 4-A so both teams know they face a great challenge Friday and Saturday. The Lady Broncs host Gillette Friday night at Sheridan High School. Head coach Mark Elliott says the Gillette girls are as tough as they have been in several years and the Lady Broncs will have to be in top form Friday night.

The Broncs will play the Camels in the Razor City Saturday night. Head coach Mike Ibach says they know exactly what they’ll see in this game. We will broadcast both games live for you on am 14-10 KWYO Friday and Saturday night at 7:30.

The Sheridan Lady Broncs won two close games over the weekend. They beat Riverton by six Friday and nipped Cody Saturday on the last shot of the game to win by two. With the game tied with :13 seconds to play the Lady Broncs had the ball with a chance to win it. The dramatic finish came after the Lady Broncs were behind as many as 15 points in the first half then made a great comeback. They host Gillette Friday night.

The Arvada/Clearmont Lady Panthers are 12-0 after beating the Riverton sophomores at Sheridan High School Friday. The Lady Panthers are currently ranked 2nd in class 1-A. Their leader is junior point guard Ronda Claybaugh. Head coach Bill Joy says Claybaugh is a special player. Claybaugh herself says the Lady Panthers are focused on having an historic season. She says their experience at last year’s state tournament has kept the team hungry this season.

The Big Horn Rams dropped both weekend games at Wright and at home against Upton.

The Lady Rams came back Saturday to beat Upton after losing at Wright. The Lady Rams play three games this week at Kaycee Thursday before joining the Rams for home games against Riverside and Sundance Friday and Saturday

The Tongue River Lady Eagles avenged their only loss of the season Saturday beating Moorcroft at home.

The Eagles beat NSI and Moocroft to pick up a couple more conference wins. Both team’s have road conference games at Wright Friday and at home against Greybull Saturday.

The Sheridan Broncs played well but came away from the weekend with two conference losses on the road. They lost by three at Riverton and by ten at Cody holding both opponents to less than 50 points in both games. Head coach Mike Ibach says their shooting woes continue.

The Sheridan College Lady Generals split their road games in Montana over the weekend. Miles City beat them on a last second shot Friday and they bombed Dawson Community College Saturday. Head coach Frank McCarthy was pleased with their play. The Generals took care of business winning at Miles City and Glendive to run their record to 19-2 overall and 2-0 in the north sub region. They have now won 17 in a row. Both teams play at Northwest College tomorrow night then head to Sterling Colorado for games Saturday.

The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers went 2-4 at a dual tournament in Lewistown Montana. Top finishers included Micha Cadera who was unbeaten in six matches. Nick Fellows was 4-1 and Robbie Walters went 4-2. The Broncs have a dual at Buffalo tomorrow night.

The Bronc swimmers and divers finished third at the Buffalo Invitational Friday. They have a dual meet with Casper Natrona at home Friday evening.

The class of 2006 for the Wyoming Sports Hall of Fame has been announced. The induction ceremony in June will have a Sheridan theme this year as Sheridan Native Jim Benepe and Sheridan High School graduate Shauna Smith will be honored for their achievements. No one will forget Jim Benepe’s feat in 1988 winning the first PGA tour event he ever entered winning the Western Open in Chicago. Benepe is Wyoming’s most accomplished golfer playing for several season’s on the PGA Tour including competing in six majors over the years. Track standout Shauna Smith will be honored this year as the athlete of the year. Smith was a national NCAA Champion in the 400 meter hurdles as a senior in 2005 at the University of Wyoming and made the US Track team for the world championships last summer. Currently Smith is pursing her carrier as a professional track competitor. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place in Casper in June.

The Sheridan Broncs play at Riverton tonight to open north conference play. They expect a good game from the Wolverines. The Broncs conclude the road trip at Cody tomorrow.

The Lady Broncs host Riverton tonight in a battle of number #4 against number #5, in the latest class 4-A rankings. The Lady Broncs are right behind 4th ranked Riverton. The game will tip at 7:30 and we will broadcast it live on am 14-10 KWYO. The Lady Broncs are 9-4 heading into the game. Head coach Mark Elliott says their underclassmen are starting to play well. They are getting good leadership from Steph Stender and Kelsey Boedecker.

The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers will spend the weekend in Lewistown Montana competing in a dual tournament. They have three today all against Montana schools. They’ll face Laurel, Libby and Butte Central.

The Tongue River Eagles play at NSI tonight and host Moorcroft tomorrow. Head coach Larry Moser says both games are important conference games.

The Lady Eagles are off tonight. They will host Moorcroft tomorrow. They owe Moorcroft after the Lady Wolves beat them by two a couple of weeks ago. Head coach Diane Moser says the Lady Eagles will be ready.

The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams play at Wright today. The Lady Rams beat Wright at home two weeks ago. Head coach Mike Daley says it’ll be a tough game tonight. The Rams beat Wright in their first meeting as well. Tomorrow both Big Horn teams host games with Upton. Rams head coach Josh Hatch says the Bobcats won’t be a push over.

The Sheridan Bronc swimmers and divers compete at an invitational in Buffalo today. Head coach Larry White says the Broncs have really come together as a team.
The Sheridan Hawks hockey team steps out of Wyoming league play this week for games up in Billings. The hawks are 16-0.

The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals will play in Miles City Montana tonight and in Glendive tomorrow. The Wyoming Cowboys are off this weekend. Their next game is Wednesday at Colorado State.

The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers compete in a dual tournament in Lewistown Montana starting tomorrow. They open with duels against Laurel, Libby and Butte. Head coach Corey Hamrick says this a great event for the Broncs to compete in. Getting so many matches could go a long way in helping the younger Bronc wrestlers to turn the corner on the season. Following the tournament this weekend the Broncs have a dual at Buffalo Tuesday and next Saturday conference duals with Riverton and Cody over in Cody.

The Sheridan Bronc basketball players and coaches have been off for two weeks. They open conference play at Riverton tomorrow night. Head coach Mike Ibach he says the Broncs have been looking forward to finally starting conference play and they’ll find out if the time off has them better prepared

The Lady Broncs open conference play at home tomorrow night against Riverton. The varsity game will tip-off at 7:30 Saturday afternoon. They’ll play Cody at 3:30. The Tongue River Eagles play a conference game at NSI tomorrow night and then be joined by the Lady Eagles for home games Saturday with Moorcroft. The girls varsity game will start at 4 o’clock and the boys will go at seven.

The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams play at Wright tomorrow night and non-conference games at home against Upton Saturday. The varsity games will be at 2:30 and 4 o’clock Saturday afternoon.

The Sheridan College basketball teams begin the most important part of their schedule this week as they open North Sub Region play at Miles City and Glendive Montana. Sub region records determine seeding for the region nine post season tournament. This year the winner of men’s north sub region will host the men’s region nine tournament so the Generals face must wins every time they play Miles City, Dawson and Northwest College. The men’s tournament is scheduled to start March 4th and if the Generals can keep their current winning streak alive this weekend they’ll take a major step in ensuring the tournament will be played in Sheridan. They are 17-2 overall and have won 15 straight.

The Sheridan Bronc swimmers and divers will compete at an invitational in Buffalo tomorrow.

The Sheridan High School indoor track athletes have this weekend off. Next Friday they compete at a meet in Spearfish South Dakota.

The Sheridan Hawks hockey team plays games in Billings this weekend. The Hawks will host another round of Wyoming league games February 11th and 12th.

The Wyoming Cowboys fell apart in the second half last night at lost at BYU 80-67. The Pokes led at halftime but couldn’t keep their momentum in the second half and their three game winning streak came to an end. Next up is a road game to Fort Collins next Wednesday to play Colorado State.

The Sheridan Lady Broncs made quick work of the Buffalo Lady Bison last night picking up a win in their home opener and ending their non-conference schedule with a 9-4 record. The Lady Broncs led by 10 at the end of the first quarter and stretched the lead to 23 at the half and cruised to the 61-33 win. Now it’s onto north conference play with Riverton and Cody coming to Sheridan for games Friday night and Saturday afternoon. Elliott says they expect a tough challenge from Riverton Friday night.

The Sheridan College Generals have won 15 straight and are now 17-2 overall after blowing Casper out on the T-Birds home court. Last night it was all Sheridan College winning 96-65. Generals scored in double figures led by freshman Brian Duckworth’s 18 points. The Generals open north sub region play in Miles City and Glendive Montana Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Generals dropped another close game on the road giving up a late lead and falling to Casper 43-40 in a low scoring game. The Lady Generals join the men on the road for games in Montana this weekend.

The Tongue River Eagles will play a conference game at NSI Friday night before hosting Moorcroft Saturday. The Eagles are 4-0 in conference play and already have beaten Moorcroft on the road. Head coach Larry Moser says the Eagles will face a determined Moorcroft team Saturday.

The Lady Eagles will also host Moorcroft Saturday in their only game of the week. The Lady Wolves ended Tongue River’s 32 game winning streak two weeks ago and head coach Diane Moser says the Lady Eagles will be ready this time around.

The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams play road games at Wright Friday. Both teams already have home wins over the Panthers and Lady Panthers. Girls coach Mike Daly expects a tough road game from Wright Friday. Following those games both teams host non-conference games with Upton Saturday. Rams head coach Josh Hatch says Upton will give the Rams a good test

The Sheridan Bronc swimmers and divers will compete at an invitational in Buffalo Friday. Most of the Bronc swimmers have qualified for the state meet in multiple events and the Broncs lone diver Josh Brown is very close to meeting the qualifying standards as well.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc indoor track teams have this weekend off as they prepare for their next meet in Spearfish South Dakota next week. Last week they competed in Chadron Nebraska. Head coach Art Bauers says it’s good for the athletes to see and compete against other athletes from different states.

The Sheridan Hawks high school hockey team gets back into action after an off week playing games in Billings this weekend. The Hawks are in their third season of existence and have made major progress in just three years. They finished third in the state in their first season and won the state title last year and this season are dominating Wyoming hockey with a league leading 16-0 record. You’ll have a chance to see the Hawks in action in Sheridan next month when they host another weekend of league games February 11th and 12th.

The Lady Bronc basketball team is 7-5 heading into tonight’s non-conference game with Buffalo. They’ve played 12 straight games on the road and in eight of those twelve games they’ve played ranked opponents. Tonight they get the chance to play in their own gym for the first time. We will have the game for you live on am 14-10 KWYO. The tip is scheduled for 7:30. The Lady Broncs have gone through the transition of playing without starting point guard Kelly Garriffa who went down with a season ending knee injury. Head coach Mark Elliott says the players have raised their level. The Lady Broncs open conference play at home against Riverton and Cody Friday and Saturday. They are treating tonight’s game with Buffalo as a tune up.

The Sheridan College basketball teams are on the road tonight for Wyoming conference games at Casper College. This weekend they open north sub region play on the road at Miles City and Glendive Montana.

In other basketball notes the Sheridan Broncs open conference play on the road after a weekend off. They play at Riverton Friday and Cody Saturday.

The Lady Eagles play one game this week, Saturday at home against Moorcroft. It should be an interesting game. The Lady Wolves beat the Lady Eagles two weeks ago to end  the Lady Eagle’s winning streak at 32 straight. One area the team has really improved since that loss is their tough pressure defense.

The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams have road conference games at Wright Friday and home games with Upton Saturday. The Lady Rams took it on the chin at Tongue River and Aravada/Clearmont last week but head coach Mike Daley says playing those tough teams will only make the Lady Rams better in the long run.

The Rams are coming off a nice win over Arvada/Clearmont and head into Friday’s game with Wright. With a home win over the two-time defending state champs head coach Josh Hatch says they expect a tough battle Friday night.

The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers are coming off a good performance at a tournament in Miles City Montana this weekend.

The Sheridan Bronc swimmers and divers will compete at the Buffalo Invitational Friday. Right now the Broncs have all four swimmers qualified for the state meet in multiple events and diver Josh Brown is on the verge of qualifying as well. Head coach Larry White says this small team is putting together an impressive season. White will be joining us Saturday morning on our “Breakfast With the Coaches Show” on am 14-10 KWYO live at Perkins.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc indoor tracksters had their season opening meet Saturday in Chadron Nebraska. They have this week off before a meet in Spearfish South Dakota. Head coach Art Bauers says now with one meet under their belt the athletes now have a chance to get some good practice time in before they compete next week.

The Sheridan Hawks hockey team will get back into action this weekend stepping out of league play with some games up in Billings. This past Saturday head coach Bob Viren was a guest on “Breakfast With the Coaches”. We talked about youth hockey compared to what people see in a professional game. You’ll have a chance to see the Hawks play in Sheridan again in a few weeks when they host another round of Wyoming League Games the second weekend in February. They currently lead the league with a 16-0 record.

The Sheridan Lady Broncs beat Laramie on the road to avenge a December loss against the Lady Plainsmen tomorrow. They play their home opener against Buffalo but the big games this week are their conference openers against Riverton and Cody. Tomorrow night they host Buffalo at 7:30. They’ll treat it as a tune up for the conference games this weekend.

The Bronc wrestlers had three individuals place at the Cowboy Invitational in Miles City. Micha Kadera was 3rd, Robbie Walters finished 5th and Garrett Nelson was 6th. Head coach Corey Hamrick says they entire team performed well. This week the Broncs will travel back to Montana for a dual tournament in Lewistown.

In other weekend action both the Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles swept wins over Big Horn and Riverside. Eagles head coach Larry Moser says they jumped Big Horn early and went on for a nice win. Against riverside it was more of a battle. The Eagles play at NSI Friday and host Moorcroft Saturday. The Lady Eagles routed both Big Horn and Riverside for their third straight win. They host Moorcroft Saturday, the team that beat them by two a couple of weeks ago.

The Big Horn Lady Rams lost at Tongue River and at Arvada/Clearmont. It was a tough weekend against two really good teams. The Rams lost at Tongue River and came back for a good win at Arvada/Clearmont Saturday. This week both teams play at Wright Friday and host games with Upton Saturday.

The Bronc swimmers and divers had a good weekend in a dual at Cheyenne East and an invitational in Gillette. The Broncs have a dual at Buffalo Friday in their only action this week.

The Bronc and Lady Bronc indoor track teams opened their season at Chadron Nebraska. Bauers says it was a good opener after little practice time. They compete at a meet in Spearfish South Dakota this week.

The Sheridan Hawks high school hockey team had the weekend off. The Hawks are currently 16-0 on the season. Their coach Bob Viren joined us on “The Coaches Show” at Perkins Saturday. He says after winning 16 straight the Hawks must concentrate on staying sharp. The Hawks have put together this nice run of victories playing great team hockey. They play games this weekend up in Billings.

The Sheridan College Generals swept two at home over the weekend coming back in the 2nd half to beat NJC Friday and routing Eastern Wyoming Saturday. The Lady Generals beat NJC Saturday. Both teams play at Casper tomorrow night before they open north sub region play at Miles City and Glendive Montana this weekend.

The Wyoming Cowboys beat New Mexico at home Saturday 77-70. This week they play at BYU Wednesday night.

The Big Horn Rams swept their season series with NSI by beating the Wolves 69-49 in Big Horn last night. The Wolves have made great improvement since the first week of the season when the Rams demolished them by 40. Last night the Rams had the lead most of the night and pulled away mid way through the 3rd quarter. Tonight the Rams play in Dayton. Tomorrow the Rams renew their county rivalry at 1-A Arvada/Clearmont.

The Tongue River Eagles have been solid through their first eight games. Head coach Larry Moser says team depth has made the difference. The Eagles also play at home tomorrow against Riverside at 4 o’clock.

The Lady Eagles saw their long winning streak end last Friday in Moorcroft. The defending state champs started another streak with a win at Lovell on Saturday. Head coach Diane Moser says the players are looking forward to tonight’s games against the Lady Rams.
 
Lady rams head coach Mike Daley knows they’ll have their hands full tonight. Tomorrow they have another tough test at unbeaten Arvada/Clearmont. The girls varsity game will be played 4:30 at Tongue River High School with the boys going at 7:30.

In other basketball action tonight the Sheridan Lady Broncs play in Laramie in a 4-A battle of top five ranked teams. The Lady Plainsmen beat the Lady Broncs back in December and head coach Mark Elliott says their looking for payback tonight.

The Broncs are off this week. They start conference play next week on the road at Riverton and Cody.

The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals play at home tonight against Northeastern Colorado. The Generals are 13-2, The Plainsmen are 15-2. Head coach Joel Davidson expects a great ball game. Last Wednesday Catherine Macka rolled a perfect game at cloud peak lanes and considering that bowling has been on the Sheridan sports scene since the 1920’s that makes her feat even more amazing. Sheridan has had three bowling alley’s in its history. Cloud Peak Lanes has been in existence since the late 1950’s. Macka has been bowling for 23 years and says it an was exciting night .Now that she has one 300 game is she ready to go for it again.

Next week the Sheridan Lady Bronc basketball team will play their first home game of the season. Sheridan High School Activities Director Tom Racette says they don’t charge admission to home games but the Sheridan high school honor society would like your help at the door. They are sponsoring a book drive and would like all fans to bring a book to the game for a donation. The books will be going to an inner-city elementary school in New York City. They need books appropriate for kindergarten through 5th graders. That’s next Tuesday night when the Lady Broncs host the Buffalo Lady Bison at 7:30. The Lady Broncs have played a dozen straight road games to start the season and they finally get to play in their home gym Tuesday.

The Big Horn Rams and NSI Wolves will play a conference game at Big Horn tonight. The varsity game is scheduled to tip off at 6:30. Tomorrow, the Rams and Lady Rams play in Dayton, the girls varsity game is scheduled to tip at 4:30. The boys game will tip-off at 7:30. Eagles head coach Larry Moser says in the Big Horn / Tongue River head to head meetings he’s seen it all and you never can anticipate what might happen.

Wyoming beat the Air Force in Laramie last night. The Pokes have gotten it turned around in their last two games. They beat TCU for a rare road conference win Saturday and now are 2-1 in conference play and 9-7 overall. They play New Mexico Saturday at 1 o’clock live on am 14-10 KWYO.

The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers jump back into the fray this week after having a rare weekend off. The Broncs will compete in the prestigious Cowboy Invitational Tournament in Miles City Montana. Head coach Cory Hamrick says this is another great opportunity to see some tough competition.

The Sheridan high school indoor track season opens with an invitational Saturday in Chadron Nebraska. Head coach Art Bauers says the last week and a half of good weather has really helped the team get ready for this first meet. With only seven official practices in, ready or not the season begins

The Sheridan Lady Bronc basketball team will be looking to avenge a December loss against Laramie on the road Friday. Laramie beat the Lady Broncs on a last second shot at a tournament in Cheyenne back on December 3rd. Head coach Mark Elliott says the Lady Broncs will be ready as they had a good tune up with a trip to Cheyenne last week.

The Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles host Big Horn Friday. The girls varsity game will start at 4:30 with the boys to tip at 7:30. The Lady Eagles lost senior guard Jesse Fuller with a season ending knee injury before Christmas and head coach Diane Moser says the rest of the players have done a good job in her absence. The Eagles have played well over their first eight games.

The Big Horn girls took two victories last week. Head coach Mike Daley says they know they have a tough weekend of games coming up. The Rams are finally at full strength head coach Josh Hatch says they got several nagging injuries healed up over the holiday break. This will be Hatch’s first taste of the Tongue River / Big Horn rivalry and says they are looking forward to facing a talented Tongue River squad. Before they play in Dayton Friday the Rams have a tune up with NSI at home Thursday night

In other basketball notes this week the Sheridan Broncs are off. They were originally scheduled to play Worland this weekend and Buffalo on Tuesday but those games were moved into December so the Broncs have a rare regular season week off. They resume their schedule next weekend opening north conference play at Riverton and Cody.

The Lady Broncs will have played a dozen straight games to start the season before their home opener a week from tonight. Friday, the Lady Broncs play at Laramie and next Tuesday they host Buffalo. Head coach Mark Elliott says playing a home game has been a long time coming. The game Friday is a rematch with Laramie. Back on December 3rd Laramie beat the Lady Broncs by one on a last season shot in a tournament in Cheyenne.

The Sheridan College basketball teams host games Friday night with region nine rivals Northeastern Colorado at the Hoffman Dome at 6 and 8 pm. A decision on what meet they’ll attend will be made tomorrow but until then head coach Larry White expects a competitive dual with East on Friday.
The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers should be well rested as they embark on a road trip to Miles City Montana this week. The Broncs had the weekend off and they’ll open the two-day Cowboy Invitational Friday in Miles City. The Cowboy is an invitational with a long history in the region. The tournament has been around since the 50’s and usually hosts the top teams from Wyoming, Montana and North and South Dakota.

As we reported yesterday the Sheridan Hawks high school hockey team is putting together another championship style season. The Hawks won last year’s Wyoming hockey league state title and are looking strong to make another serious attempt at this year’s championship. After winning four games this past weekend the Hawks are 16-0. This weekend the Hawks step out of Wyoming league play for some non-league games in Billings

Tomorrow night the Wyoming Cowboys continue their Mountain West Conference schedule. This past weekend the Pokes ran their conference record to 1-1 after a road win at TCU. The Sheridan Hawks high school hockey team played four games in Sheridan over the weekend and won all four. The Hawks had three shut-outs and outscored four  opponents 25-1. They finished the weekend off yesterday shutting out Casper  5-0.

In basketball action the Tongue River Lady Eagles winning streak ended at 32 games at Moorcroft Friday as they dropped the game 45-43. They came right back and got a nice win at Lovell Saturday.

The Eagles pounded Moorcroft on the road Friday and dropped a six point game at home Saturday with Lovell. Next up for the Eagles is a home conference game with Sheridan County rival Big Horn Friday night.

The Big Horn Lady Rams swept two wins over the weekend beating Riverside Friday and Wright at home Saturday. Even though they got two victories Daley says now is not the time to celebrate. They play at Tongue River Friday at 4:30.

The Rams lost 42-41 at Riverside Friday but came back to beat Wright in their home opener Saturday. Head coach Josh Hatch says they just struggled to score Friday. Saturday they got over their first home game jitters and played well. The Rams host NSI Thursday and then at Tongue River Friday night at 7:30.

The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals split their games at Western Wyoming Saturday. The Generals made it 12 straight wins pounding Western by 41. Head coach Joel Davidson says it was a good performance coming out of the holiday break. The Lady Generals led western by 12 at halftime but scored only 19 points in the second half and Western came from behind to win. Both teams play at home Friday against Northeastern Colorado and Davidson says the Generals will have their hands full with the Plainsmen. Games Friday will be at 6 and 8 o’clock.

The Sheridan Bronc swimmers and divers had two duals over the weekend. Head coach Larry White says they did extremely well over in Worland and they competed tough against Gillette Friday. The Broncs have a dual with Cheyenne East Friday.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc basketball team split their road games in Cheyenne. They beat East Friday and led Central at halftime Saturday but only scored 11 points in the second half and lost 45-36. The Lady Broncs play at Laramie Friday night and their home opener on Tuesday the 17th against Buffalo.

The Broncs dropped both of their games against the Cheyenne schools. They are off this week and open conference play with a road trip to Riverton and Cody on the 20th and 21st.

The Sheridan Broncs host the top team in 4-A tonight when they play Cheyenne East at Sheridan High School. Broncs head coach Mike Ibach says he wants to see the Broncs become more aggressive. We will broadcast tonight’s game live on am 14-10 KWYO. The tip is set for 7:30 tomorrow and the Broncs host Cheyenne Central at 1:30.

The Lady Broncs will play at Cheyenne East tonight and at Central tomorrow afternoon. Head coach Mark Elliott says they’ll get some questions answered in both games. Both teams will provide the Lady Broncs with a good challenge.

The Sheridan High School indoor track season started Wednesday and with the weather so nice they’ve been outside with their first practices. Head coach Art Bauers says they got a great turnout. They don’t have much time to get into competitive shape the season opens next week. Bauers says the indoor program at Sheridan High School has really grown over the last several years.

The Sheridan College basketball teams will play road games in Rocksprings tomorrow night.

The Tongue River basketball teams will play at Moorcroft tonight. Tomorrow the Lady Eagles play at Lovell and the Eagles host the Bulldogs at 4 o’clock.

The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams are off this week. The Rams host NSI next Thursday and then both teams play at Tongue River on the 13th.

The Sheridan Bronc swimmers and divers host a conference duel meet this evening with Gillette at 5 o’clock and the Bronc wrestlers are off this weekend.

The Sheridan Hawks high school hockey team hosts a weekend of games tomorrow and Sunday. The Hawks will play tomorrow morning at 7:30 and then in the evening at 5 o’clock. Sunday morning they go at 9:45 and then again at 12:30.

The Sheridan Hawks are unbeaten this season with an 11-0 record they host a two day event Saturday and Sunday at the Sheridan Ice Rink. They’ll host teams from Cody, Douglas, Casper and Riverton. The Hawks will play four games, Saturday morning at 7:30 vs Casper and against Douglas at 5 o’clock Sunday morning. They take on Riverton at 9:45 and finish off the weekend at 12:30 Sunday afternoon against Casper. Admission is free to all games.

The Sheridan Bronc basketball team will play at home tomorrow night against Cheyenne East and Saturday afternoon against Cheyenne Central. Both teams beat the Broncs on the first weekend of the season and head coach Mike Ibach says the Broncs can use those losses to their advantage, if the T-Birds and Indians overlook the 1-8 Broncs. Central head coach and former Bronc coach Mike Jackson coaches his first game in Sheridan against his old team since taking over the Central program last year and Broncs head coach Mike Ibach says the Broncs will have to be ready for an emotional central team in that game. We will broadcast both games live on am 14-10 KWYO. Tomorrow night’s game with East tips off at 7:30 and Sunday afternoon against Central at 1:30.

The Lady Broncs will play at Cheyenne East tomorrow and Central Saturday.

The Tongue River basketball teams have conference games at Moorcroft tomorrow then Lovell Saturday. The Eagles host the Bulldogs Saturday at 4 o’clock. They lost a close game at Lovell in their first meeting.

The Lady Eagles play at Lovell Saturday. They beat Lovell at home by 10 in December. Head coach Diane Moser expects another tough battle in Lovell Saturday

The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams are off this weekend. They get back into action next week. The Rams host a game a week. Tonight against NSI then both teams will have road games at Tongue River next Friday and then at Arvada/Clearmont on Saturday.

The Sheridan Bronc swimmers and divers compete at a meet in Worland this evening. Tomorrow the Broncs compete at home hosting a conference duel with Gillette starting at 5 o’clock.

The Bronc wrestlers have a conference duel match tonight at Casper Kelly Walsh. Head coach Corey hayrick says these are important matches for the Broncs.

The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals play games in Rocksprings Saturday night. Both teams are at home next week on Friday hosting Northeastern Colorado.

The University of Wyoming Cowboys dropped their conference opener in Laramie last night 88-77 against UNLV. The Pokes fall to 7-8 on the season and 0-1 in conference play

The Sheridan Bronc swimmers and divers have a dual in Worland tomorrow. Then on Friday they have their first home meet of the season when they host Gillette in a conference dual starting at 5 o’clock.

The Bronc wrestlers have a conference duel in Casper tomorrow. The Broncs get back into action after winning their first match of the season right before Christmas. It was a huge confidence booster for the Broncs. Head coach Corey Hamrick talks about the dual at Casper Kelly Walsh. Tomorrow the individual matches are just as important as a team victory. The Broncs are off this weekend before a tournament in Miles City Montana next week. The Bronc wrestlers also have an on going fundraiser and they would like your help. They are helping to recycle old cell phones.

The Sheridan College Generals and Lady Generals open up 2006 Saturday with games at Western Wyoming. Generals head coach Joel Davidson says they need a good start at Rocksprings but they are also looking at two monster region nine games at home next week. They open north sub region play in two weeks, this more than other years sub region games are magnified. In March the north sub region champs host the region nine tournaments. Davidson says the next month will tell them a lot about how this season might finish. The Generals and Lady Generals host games next Friday with Northeastern Colorado.

The Sheridan Broncs host games with Cheyenne East and Cheyenne Central this week. The varsity game with the T-birds is at 7:30 Friday night and you can hear the game live on AM 14-10 KWYO. Saturday they host Cheyenne Central as former Broncs coach Mike Jackson makes his first trip back to Sheridan to face his old team. That game tips-off at 1:30 on am 14-10 KWYO.

The Lady Broncs are 6-3 overall and will play four more games before the north conference season opens. This week they play down in Cheyenne then at Laramie next week and home against Buffalo on Saturday the 14th

The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers will be in action Thursday at Casper Kelly Walsh. The Broncs won their first dual match of the season December 20th against Billings West and currently stand at 0-1 in conference duel’s. They’ll be off this weekend and then up to Miles City Montana for the Cowboy Invitational January 13th and 14th.

The Bronc swimmers and divers have a dual scheduled in Worland Thursday and compete at home Friday against Gillette.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc basketball teams will play the Cheyenne schools this week. The Lady Broncs make a return trip to the Cheyenne where they split with East and Central early in December. Yesterday they got back on the court for the first time since December 20th. Head coach Mark Elliott says it was a tough trip to Cheyenne the first time and this week will be another good test. The Lady Bronc s play at Laramie on Friday the 13th and then play Buffalo at home on Saturday the 14th. They open conference play at home with Riverton and Cody on the 20th and 21st.

The Broncs play at home Friday night against Cheyenne East and Saturday afternoon against Cheyenne Central. Both games will be broadcast live on am 14-10 KWYO. Friday night’s varsity game tips at 7:30 and Saturday afternoon with Central at 1:30 in the first game back in Sheridan for former Bronc head coach Mike Jackson. The Broncs started the season 1-8 overall and the coaches and players put in a lot of time over the break to get ready for the games. Head coach Mike Ibach says the big thing is finding more consistency in their play. The Broncs got blasted twice in Cheyenne on the opening weekend of the season and they are expecting much more when they meet those two teams again this week.

The Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles will play games at Moorcroft Friday then return games against Lovell Saturday. The Eagles will play in Dayton Saturday at 4 o’clock while the Lady Eagles will play at Lovell.

In local hockey action this week the Sheridan Hawks high school team will host a weekend of league games Saturday and Sunday. The Hawks are 11-0 on the season and will play four games. They play Saturday morning at 7:30 and in the evening at 5 o’clock. Sunday they play at 9:45 in the morning and then a 12:30. Admission to all the games is free.

The Wyoming Cowboys are 7-6 overall after losing at Denver University last night by the score of 69-64. Steve Leven led the way in the loss with 20 points. Tomorrow night the Pokes open Mountain West Conference play against UNLV. You can hear the game live on am 14-10 KWYO starting with the pre-game show at 6:30, the tip is at 7 o’clock
