10/31/05 It was a long day of football playoffs for our Sheridan County teams as only the Big Horn Rams were able advance to the semi finals. The Rams were trailing 13-10 in their game with Riverside in the second half but a big play offensively and a punt return for a touchdown turned the tide in the Rams favor and they beat the Rebels 23-13. Head coach Bob St. John says defense and special teams pulled it out. St. John says they did what they had to do and will advance to the next round. They face Wright in the semi finals Saturday. The Panthers gave the Rams their only loss of the regular season and St. John says the players are happy to get a shot at avenging that loss. The NSI Wolves lost at Burlington 56-16. They got a couple of bad calls at the start of the game including a 70 yard touchdown called back in the opening minute and head coach John St. Pierre says the team just couldn’t recover. But St. Pierre says he told the players they had a great year by making the playoffs after starting 0-4. The Tongue River Eagles had a tough, long day Friday against Lovell. The Eagles beat Lovell during the regular season and led 13-7 early but Lovell shut them out the rest of the way to win the game 34-13. Head coach Paul Marshall says for whatever reason it just wasn’t the Eagles day Friday. Not much went right Friday and it turned into a long afternoon. The Sheridan Broncs got the start to the game they wanted against Casper Natrona Friday night but the game changed momentum on one play and Natrona ended it early. The Broncs gave NC three first half scores off turnovers and were down 28-0 at halftime. In all NC scored four times of Bronc fumbles and won the game 42-6. The turnovers did them in. The Broncs looked like they would take the lead in the first quarter with the ball first and goal at the Natrona 7 yard line but two plays later Natrona scored on an 84 yard fumble return and the Broncs never recovered. Leroy says even though the season is over they did make the playoffs and must keep the atmosphere positive in the football program. A couple of positives this season for the Broncs was the plays from seniors JD Dudrey and Reece Hall. They led the class 5-A in defensive points this season with Hall finishing first and Dudrey a close second. The Buffalo Bison beat Douglas 38-14 Friday in their first round game. The Bison led 38-0 before Douglas scored twice. Late this weekend the defending 4-A champs will host a semi final game against Powell. The Sheridan Lady Bronc swimmers and divers finished 7th in the State Championships over the weekend. Taking a look at the top performances Leslie Hitchcock finished 10th in diving, Rachel Holst was 3rd in the 100 free and 4th in the 50 free Mandy Forister was 4th in the 100 butterfly, Hattie Oatts was 4th in the 100 backstroke and Ashley Alden was 10th in the 500 free the 200 medley relay team was 5th and the 400 free relay team finished 6th and the best part of meet for the Lady Broncs is the fact that all those state meet points will be back in the pool next fall as all the girls are under classmen. At the state volleyball tournament over the weekend the Sheridan Lady Broncs and Arvada/Clearmont Lady Panthers were eliminated from play Saturday morning in the consolation bracket and the Tongue River Lady Eagles finished as the 2-A runner up. The Denver Broncos opened up a huge lead over Philadelphia yesterday only to see Philly make a game of it then they blew the Eagles out 49-21. Denver led 28-0. The Eagles Came back to make it a 28-21 ball game but Denver slammed the door and scored three more times. The Broncos have their bye week this week. The Wyoming Cowboys were off over the weekend. The Pokes play at Utah Saturday then their final home game against BYU on November 12th and end the regular season at San Diego State November 19th. The Pokes must win two out of the next three to get bowl game eligible. 10/28/05 The NSI Wolves are facing a team that beat them back in September and are hoping they’ve improved enough to make a run at the Huskies. Burlington is limping into the playoffs and a three game losing streak. Wolves head coach John St. Pierre says they must be physical on defense today. He says the Wolves must be balanced offensively. The Big Horn Rams host Riverside this afternoon. The Rams beat the Rebels during the regular season on road and now get them at home today. Head coach Bob St. John says they expect a good battle from Riverside. The Rams will be without senior quarterback Anthony Kolos today for the second straight week. The Rams hope he can be back next week. St. John says it’s simple just win and advance the game kick’s off at 2 o’clock. The Tongue River Eagles also play at home this afternoon as they host Lovell. The Eagles beat the Bulldogs during the regular season and will be looking to do it again and advance into the 3-A semi finals. The Broncs may only have 2 wins but they played both Natrona and Kelly Walsh tough and head coach Tim Leroy says the Broncs have gotten better and are looking forward to playing the Mustangs again. Leroy says based on their first meeting and the fact that both teams have improved it has the makings of a good battle. The Broncs will be missing starting quarterback Tyler Thomas and running back Zach Hurst both are out with injuries suffered in last week’s game at Kelly Walsh. They will suit up but are not expected to see action but Thomas will punt and kick tonight. Leroy says the Broncs will have to play a great game tonight to pull off an upset. The NSI Wolves will play at Burlington tomorrow afternoon. The Wolves made the playoffs by winning last week in their final regular season game. They didn’t have a great regular season but head coach John St. Pierre says that doesn’t matter now, they won the games they had to. The Wolves lost at Burlington in week three and St. Pierre says they get another shot at them tomorrow. Even though they are a big underdog tomorrow St. Pierre says the playoffs are built for upsets. That game kicks off tomorrow at 3 o’clock. The Big Horn Rams host Riverside tomorrow in their first round game. The Rams beat Riverside over in Basin during the regular season and Rams head coach Bob St. John says they have the home field advantage and playing a team they already beat once is a great challenge because they know the Rebels will be fired up to try and knock them off. The Rams senior class has played in state championship games every year since they were freshmen and St. John says playoff experience makes the Rams playoff tough. The Rams will be missing senior quarterback Anthony Kolos for the second straight game with a knee injury and St. John says they have to battle through it and elevate their play.

Since then the Mustangs have beaten every Wyoming team they played this year and are 7-1 on the season and ranked number one heading into the post season. Their only loss came at the hands of Arvada West high school from Denver so the Broncs know they’ll have their hands full Friday night and it looks like they will be short handed as well with their starting backfield most likely on the sidelines for the game. Senior quarterback Tyler Thomas and senior running back Zack Hurst are doubtful to play Friday. Hurst has bad ribs and Thomas has an injured throwing hand. Leroy says even though they have had some tough injuries over the last three weeks the team stayed together and got into the playoffs. The Broncs are already missing Matt Liebreck and offensive linemen Jared Guyer and Nick Montano. Liebreck and Guyer are definitely out Friday and Montano missed last week’s game with a hamstring injury and is still doubtful for Friday but the Broncs will show up for the game and we will have it live for you on am 14-10 KWYO starting at 7 o’clock Friday night.
