Laramie fired first with a semi final win over Cheyenne but in true championship form Cheyenne came back and beat Laramie back to back Monday and Tuesday in the double elimination tournament to claim their unprecedented 5th straight state title. Cheyenne controlled yesterday’s final by holding off Laramie 9-3. Cheyenne head coach Tagg Lain says this year’s team accomplished a lot. Post #6 has won five titles in a row. They missed playing the world series by one game two years ago finishing second in the Northwest Regional, the highest finish ever for a Wyoming team and the post now holds the all-time Wyoming record for total state titles at 20 and they’ve only lost two state tournament games in the last five years. Lain says lots of hard work has gotten the program to where it is now. As far as this year’s team in the regional, Lain says they’ll give it their best shot. The Northwest Regional starts next Thursday in Yakima Washington. Post #6 has a tough draw as they take on the California state champs in their opening game. The regional champion earns a trip to the American Legion World Series hosted this year in Rapid City. The World Series starts Friday August 19th.
