The Sheridan Jets finished 2nd at the Class “B” American Legion State Baseball Tournament last Sunday in Sheridan. Tomorrow the Sheridan Troopers open their state tournament down in Casper. The Troops have come along way after a slow start to the season in May, but head coach John Araas says it didn’t take the team long to really get it going. Tomorrow the Troopers open the state tournament against Cheyenne and pitching staff ace Chris Reynolds will start for the Troops. Reynolds has had another outstanding year and is coming off a dominating start Monday at Riverton where he threw a complete game one hitter in the Troopers 4-1 victory. Tomorrow we will preview the Troopers opening game against Cheyenne with head coach John Araas.

The Junior America’s Cup Golf Championship is in its final day at The Powder Horn. Teams will go off two separate tees today starting at 7:30 to get the final round finished.

The Sheridan Recreation District opens Little Guy Football registration Monday. Registration will run Monday through Friday next week from 8 am to 5 pm each day at the Rec Office in Thorne-Rider Park. The fees this year will be the same as the past several years - 15 dollars per player in the 1st through 4th grade flag football program and 25 dollars per player for the 5th and 6th grade tackle program. All tackle players must have sports physicals completed before their first practice. Games begins for both leagues August 23rd.

The Sheridan Troopers will open the State Double “AA” American Legion Baseball Tournament against the top ranked team in the state. For years the Casper Oilers dominated Wyoming American Legion Baseball but for the last several season’s Cheyenne has taken over the top spot. Post #6 has won the last four state championships and is shooting for number 5 this week but the Sheridan Troopers will have something to say about that as the Troops and post #6 collide in the first round of the state tournament Friday afternoon in Casper. Post #6 has had another great season but the Troopers have put together a pretty good month of baseball. The equalizer for the Troops will be Chris Reynolds. Reynolds has been the Troops ace for the last two season’s and with him on the mound Friday the Troops will have an excellent chance to shock the tournament bracket. Sheridan and Cheyenne are scheduled to take Mike Lansing Field at 3 o’clock Friday afternoon. The Double “AA” Tournament is double elimination with the championship game set for next Tuesday. Teams competing in the tournament with Sheridan and Cheyenne include Riverton, Gillette, Torrington, Laramie, Casper, Rocksprings and Evanston.

The 2005 Junior Americas Cup golf event continues today at The Powder Horn. The top junior boys golfers in the western United States, Canada and Mexico are competing in this annual team event. This is the first time the Junior Americas Cup has been played in Wyoming. The second round is today with early tee times beginning at 7:30. Tomorrow’s final round also begins at 7:30. Spectators are welcome and admission is free.

The season is changing as the Sheridan Recreation District is scheduled to open Sheridan
Little Guy Football registration Monday. Registration will be next week Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm at the Rec Office in Thorne-Rider Park. The cost per player this year is unchanged for the 1st through 4th grade flag program. The fee is 15 dollars per player and for the 5th and 6th grade tackle program the fee is 25 dollars per player. All games begin August 23rd. All tackle program players must have a sports physical completed before they will be allowed to practice with their teams.

The high school fall sports season opens Monday August 15th. All Sheridan County athletes must have sports physicals completed before the 15th. Then football camps open at Sheridan, Tongue River, Big Horn and NSI along with volleyball, cross country, tennis, golf and Lady Bronc swimming and diving.

Sheridan College opens classes in August with the Sheridan College Lady Generals volleyball team opening their season in a few weeks and the Generals and Lady Generals basketball teams opening their pre-season conditioning programs in September.

The Sheridan Troopers ended their regular season last night splitting a road double header in Riverton. Chris Reynolds showed his post-season form last night throwing a one-hitter in the first game as the Troops won it 4-1. The second game was all Riverton as they beat the Troops 10-0. The Troopers open the State Double “AA” Tournament in Casper Friday and they will have their ace on the mound as Chris Reynolds and Troopers open the state tournament against the defending state champions from Cheyenne. That game will be played at 3 o’clock.

The Junior America’s Cup Golf Tournament starts today at The Powder Horn. Last night rained dampened the opening ceremonies but not the spirits of the players and adults at The Powder Horn. Teams of four boys ages 14-17 from 13 western states, two teams from Canada and one team from Mexico will compete over the next three days. The tournament director is Doug Raney and he says this is a tremendous event. As for spectators, Raney says galleries are welcome all week. Raney says the young men that are competing this week are the best junior golfers in the west. Again if you are interested in watching the action live tee times begin each morning at 7:30.

The class “B” State American Legion Baseball Tournament ended with a great championship game at Thorne-Rider Stadium yesterday with the Sheridan Jets taking on the 3-time defending champions from Cheyenne. Both teams went through the 4-day event unbeaten and met for a winner take all title game. Cheyenne took an early 6-2 lead but the Jets stormed back to take a 9-6 lead going into the last inning and with all the momentum it looked good for the home team but Cheyenne went off for 6 runs to take a 12-9 lead and the Jets needed three runs in their final at bat to send the game into extra innings and they almost pulled it off. The jets scored twice and had the tying run in scoring position when Cheyenne finally got the final out of the game and held on for a thrilling 12-11 victory. Jets head coach Ryan Murner says he was proud of the players even though it was a tough loss. Murner says the Jets played great baseball the whole weekend. Murner says they were especially proud of the great team baseball they played throughout the tournament. The Jets finish with the second place trophy their highest finish ever in the state tournament and the team was also voted to win the tournament’s sportsmanship trophy as well.

The Sheridan Troopers were in Gillette for a conference double header yesterday. The double header was a make up date from June 29th when the games in Gillette were rained out. Yesterday the Troopers lost 4-3 in the first game but came back strong to win the second game 10-5 to earn a split of the series. Tonight the Troopers end their regular season on the road at Riverton. The Troopers post season opens Friday in Casper with the start of the double “AA” American Legion State Tournament at Mike Lansing Field. The Troops first opponents look to be either Cheyenne or Laramie depending on the outcome of tonight’s games with Riverton.

Today is a practice round and will feature opening ceremonies tonight along with a banquet. Teams of four boys ages 13-17 will play in the tournament, teams representing 13 western states including Wyoming, The Canadian Provinces of Alberta and British Columbia and a team from Mexico will play at The Powder Horn this week. The tournament is a 54-hole event and is being hosted by the Wyoming State Golf Association.

The “B” State American Legion Baseball Tournament got underway yesterday in Sheridan. Here’s the results from the first day of pool play - the Lander Lobos took it on the chin on the first day of play yesterday and the Sheridan Jets won their opener. Wheatland and Lander opened the 2005 state tournament yesterday and Wheatland took the win 11-1. In the second game Cheyenne made Lander’s day miserable and it was over before it really started and in the end Cheyenne won it 20-0 in five innings in the last game. Last night the Jets opened pool play against the Casper Barons and the Jets came out on top 13-7. Today games get underway at 1 o’clock with Casper taking on Afton then at 5 o’clock Wheatland against Cheyenne and the Sheridan Jets play the late game at 8 o’clock against Afton. On Saturday there will be a pool play game at 1 o’clock Then the semi finals tomorrow night at 5 and 8 pm the championship games is scheduled to start at 10 o’clock Sunday morning.

The Sheridan Troopers will close out the regular season with two conference road double headers on the road at Gillette Sunday and Riverton Monday. The 2005 Wyoming State Double “AA” American Legion Baseball Tournament starts a week from today at Mike Lansing Field in Casper.

The Sheridan Troopers played in Cheyenne last night. Cheyenne took the opening game of the double header 3-0. The Troopers tough luck starting pitcher was Eric Andrews, Andrews threw a complete game but the Troops could only come up with two hits in the loss. It was all Cheyenne in the second game. The Troops took an early 1-0 lead but Cheyenne went off for 15 runs and won 15-1. The Troops continue the road trip today with two games in Laramie. They play one game with Laramie and one with Torrington. The Troopers will close out their regular season with road games this weekend at Riverton and Gillette and Araas says they still have a lot to play for before the state tournament. The Double “AA” State American Legion Baseball tournament starts Friday, July 29th in Casper.

The American Legion “B” State Tournament starts this afternoon at Thorne-Rider Stadium. Six teams will have two and a half days of pool play; the semi finals will be played Saturday night with the finals Sunday morning at 10 o’clock. The first game is this afternoon is at 1 o’clock and will have Wheatland taking on Lander, then at 3 o’clock Cheyenne plays Lander then the teams will have a BBQ at Thorne-Rider Stadium before the final game at 8 o’clock with the Sheridan Jets taking on Casper. Games tomorrow will be at 1,5 and 8 pm and games Saturday will start at 10 am and 1 o’clock with the semi finals at 5 and 8 o’clock Saturday night.

In may Sheridan hosted the State Hersey Track Meet. Yesterday we found out that one Sheridan girl has qualified for the National Hersey Track Meet. Sheridan’s Katie Rottolini has qualified for the National Meet in the girl’s long jump event. The national meet will be held August 4th through the 7th in Hersey Pennsylvania. Katie is the daughter of John and Carrie Rottolini. The local Hersey Track Program is facilitated by the Sheridan Recreation District and spokesperson Dale Boedecker says this is a great honor for a young track competitor. Boedecker says the Hersey Track Program is one of the best youth programs in the country.

The Sheridan Troopers play a road double header in Cheyenne tonight then it’s over to Laramie tomorrow for games with Laramie and Torrington.

The Sheridan Jets host their state tournament starting tomorrow afternoon at Thorne-Rider Stadium. There will be three games tomorrow, the first game starts at 1 o’clock and will have Lander taking on Wheatland. At 3 o’clock Cheyenne plays lender and the final game will have the Jets taking on Casper at 8 o’clock. There will be three games Friday at 1,5 and 8, Saturday four games starting at 10 am and Sunday the title game will be played at 10 am. Thursday and Friday’s games are all pool play with semi finals Saturday night at 5 and 8 o’clock.

The Summer Hummer Golf Tournament starts today at The Powder Horn. Over 200 golfers from all over the region are competing in this year’s event. Today is a practice round day then three rounds of tournament play begins tomorrow.

Starting Monday The Powder Horn will host an international junior golf event as the 2005 Junior Americas Cup will be played next week. Teams of four boys ages 13-17 will compete in the 54-hole event. Teams from 13 western states including Wyoming, two Canadian provinces and Mexico will compete in the tournament. Tournament director Doug Raney would like to have some volunteer score keepers. Practice round is played Monday with opening ceremonies and a banquet Monday night followed by three days of competition. This event is being hosted by the Wyoming Golf Association. This is the 32nd year for the Junior America’s Cup and former players in this event include golf greats Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Fred Couples.

The Sheridan Troopers hosted a pair of conference games against Gillette last night. They were the Troops final home games of the season and a pretty good crowd turned out to watch both games. In the first game Gillette jumped on the Troops and built up a 7-0 lead after two innings but, the Troops battled back to make it a 7-6 game going into the last inning. Gillette tacked on two more runs and took the first game 9-6. In the second game Gillette built up another early lead and went on to shut the Troops out 11-0. Araas says it was a tough night against the Rough Riders. This week the Troops open up a stretch of eight straight road games to end the regular season. They start with two at post 6 in Cheyenne tonight and Araas says they always look forward to their games with Post 6. They’ll play games against Laramie and Torrington Thursday in Laramie. They close out the regular season with conference road games at Gillette Sunday and then over to Riverton on Monday. The Troops open the State Double “AA” Tournament in Casper on Friday the 29th.

The first game will be Thursday at 1 o’clock with Lander taking on Wheatland then at 3 o’clock Cheyenne plays Lander. Following that game there will be a BBQ for all the players and coaches and at 8 o’clock the Jets play Casper. There will be three more games Friday at 1, 5 and 8 pm. Afton plays Casper in the first game followed by Cheyenne vs Wheatland and the Jets against Afton. On Saturday they will play single elimination games at 10 am and 1 pm then the semi finals at 5 and 8 o’clock. The championship game is scheduled to start at 10 o’clock Sunday morning.

The Sheridan Troopers spent Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the rodeo selling beverages in the grandstands for their fundraising efforts then they took the field yesterday hosting a double header with the Billings Scarlets and split that double header with the hottest team in Montana. The Troopers are on a pretty good roll themselves as they have now won 9 of their last 12 ball games. Eric Andrews took the win in the first game yesterday. Andrews got great home run support. Zack Hurst hit a 2-run homer and Jd Dudrey had a 3-run jack as the Troops won it 5-4. It was all Billings in the second game at they took it 12-2. The Troopers will play their last home games of the season tonight. This evening the Troops host a conference double header with Gillette. The first game will start at 5 o’clock. The Troops end the regular season with road games against Cheyenne, Laramie and Torrington and close out the regular season on the 24th at Gillette. They will play at the double “AA” state tournament in Casper starting July 29th.

The Sheridan Jets have closed out their regular season. This week the state “B” American Legion State Tournament will be played here in Sheridan. The tournament is scheduled to start Thursday at Thorne-Rider Stadium.

This week over 200 golfers from around the region will be competing in the annual “Summer Hummer” golf tournament hosted by “Scotty” Scott at The Powder Horn. 120 two-man teams will open the event with practice rounds Wednesday and then three days of tournament play Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Following the Hummer The Powder Horn will host an international event, the 2005 Junior America’s Cup Tournament. It will open with a practice round on July 24th followed by three rounds of tournament play through the 28th. The junior America’s Cup is a team event. Each team has four boys ages 13-17. Teams come from Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, New Mexico, Texas, Washington, Nevada, Alberta and British Columbia and Canada and Mexico. This is a prestigious Jr. Tournament with past players including future golf “Hall of Famers” Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Fred Couples. The event is being hosted by the Wyoming State Golf Association and the tournament director is Sheridan’s Doug Raney. Raney is looking for volunteers to be scorers for the tournament. The 75th Annual Sheridan Wyo Rodeo got off to great start in front of a nice Thursday night crowd at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds but if you missed it you still have tonight and tomorrow night to get tickets and see world class rodeo. The stock and stock contractor Sankey are all dialed in and the best of the best in the rodeo business are also dialed in as this year the Wyo makes history. With out a doubt this year has a different feel to it, there just seems to be more excitement around the fairgrounds and all over town. Tonight’s performance starts at 7 o’clock.

Activities at the fairgrounds will start at 5 o’clock as the carnival gets going and for the first time in many years the Crow Indian Nation has a much bigger presence at the Wyo. They have and Indian encampment at the fairgrounds and they will host a teepee contest tomorrow afternoon. The camp is located near the pond at Rotary Park. Today following the parade the Crow nation will host a powwow that will start at noon.

The Sheridan Troopers and Sheridan Jets are scheduled to play baseball tomorrow. The Troops will host the Billings Scarlets Sunday afternoon at 1 o’clock and the jets will play over in Gillette. The Troopers play their final home games of the season Monday night against Gillette starting at 5 o’clock. The Jets host their state tournament next week. The class “B” state tournament is scheduled to start Thursday at Thorne-Rider Stadium.

Wyo rodeo slack timed events continue today at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds. It will be the second full day of action in the main arena. Tonight the first official performance gets started at 7 o’clock. The first event is round one of qualifying for the world championships of Indian Relay Racing. Then all the bareback, saddle bronc and bull riding you can handle plus steer wrestling, calf, steer and team roping and barrel racing. Performance number 2 and 3 will be at 7 o’clock tomorrow and Saturday. This year there will be an Indian Camp at the fairgrounds near the rotary pond. Saturday afternoon they will open the camp up for a teepee judging contest and Friday following the Wyo parade the public is invited to come down to Grinnell Plaza at noon for a live pow wow.

This is Sheridan American Legion Baseball’s biggest fundraiser of the year and they would like to thank the Wyo Rodeo Board for giving them this great opportunity. On local baseball notes the Sheridan Troopers have a home double header scheduled Sunday afternoon against the Billings Scarlets starting at noon. Monday night they host two with Gillette. The Jets end their regular season Sunday at Gillette. The Jets host the state “B” tournament next week starting Thursday at Thorne-Rider Stadium.

Highlights from the Troopers vs. Casper Game

The Sheridan Troopers hosted a conference double header with the Casper Oilers last night. The teams split the double header with the Troops winning the first game 4-3. Chris Reynolds hit a three-run homer and the Troops tacked on the winning run in the 6th, Kyle Boyd got the win with Chris Reynolds picking up the save. Head Coach John Araas says the big three run homer helped out. Araas says Kyle Boyd pitched a great game. Casper jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the second game and went onto win it 13-4. Araas says Reynolds didn’t have his good stuff on the mound. The Troops are off until Sunday when they host a double header with the Billings Scarlets. Monday they host a conference double header with Gillette. The games Monday are their final home games of the season. They end the regular season with road games at Cheyenne, Laramie and Torrington and then on the 24th they play at Gillette. Those conference games in the Razor City were rained out last month. The Troopers will open the Double ”AA” State Tournament in Casper July 29th. The tournament is being played a week earlier this year because of a scheduling conflict with the Casper Rockies at Lansing Field in Casper.

The Sheridan Jets are scheduled to close out their regular season Sunday at Gillette. The Jets host the “B” State Tournament that opens next Thursday at Thorne-Rider Stadium.

The Sankey Rodeo Company is preparing today to open the 05’ Wyo Rodeo tomorrow night. All the stock and associated equipment is in town today. Events begin this morning at the fairgrounds. The slack performance is free to the public so come out and see the top cowboys in the world compete for free this morning and tomorrow morning. Bob King Memorial Roping also takes place tomorrow following the slack performance. The first official Wyo performance is tomorrow night starting at 7 o’clock sharp with the first of three rounds of the world championships of Indian Relay Racing. Thursday and Friday night’s relays will be preliminary rounds with the finals Saturday night. Rodeo board member Roger St. Clair gets the credit for the relays at the Wyo and St. Clair says this year is the largest field of teams to ever compete in the world championships. St. Clair adds that they will have an Indian camp at the fairgrounds with activities Saturday and a big Indian Pow Wow on Grinnell Plaza following the parade Friday afternoon.

The Sheridan Troopers host a big conference double header with the Casper Oilers tonight. The first game of the double header will start at 5 o’clock. The Troops are also scheduled to play at home Sunday afternoon against the Billings Scarlets and then Monday the 18th they play their final regular season home games against Gillette. They finish up the regular season with road games against Cheyenne, Torrington, Laramie and Gillette before heading to Casper for the state double “AA” tournament July 29th.

The Sheridan Jets have four games left on their regular season schedule. They play at Wheatland Wednesday and at Gillette this weekend. The Jets and Sheridan host the 05’ “B” state tournament starting next week on Thursday.

05’ Wyo Rodeo week kicks off tonight in Kendrick Park with the “ Boot Kickoff and BBQ”. Wedneday is set up day at the fairgrounds with the Sankey rodeo company setting up for Thursday’s first day of the rodeo. Slack timed events will take place Thursday morning at 8 o’clock with the first official performance at 7 o’clock Thursday night.

Once again this year the Sheridan Commercial Company is sponsoring our live Friday broadcast from activities in downtown Sheridan. We will get started at the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast on Grinnell Plaza and the Wyo fun run starts at 8 o’clock on Main Street. The bed races will go off at 9 o’clock and then the main event Friday the Wyo Rodeo Parade.

Saturday the Wyo rodeo board hosts their Wyo Scholarship Golf Tournament at the Sheridan Country Club. The final performance is at 7 o’clock Saturday night with the rodeo board wrapping up this year’s festivities Sunday at the Big Horn Equestrian Center.

This year on Friday and Saturday night’s downtown the Rainbow Bar is presenting this years street dance till 2 am Friday and 3 am Saturday.

The Sheridan Youth Activities Association is hosting a fundraising golf tournament Saturday at Kendrick Golf Course. The tournament is a four-person team scramble and raises money for youth sporting activities in Sheridan County. The tournament director is Jerry Grandahl. The tournament will shot gun start Saturday morning and will have lots of pin prizes including a new car for a hole in one prize from Sheridan Motor. To register teams stop by Kendrick Golf Course before Friday.

The Sheridan Troopers have won 8 of their last 11 games after blasting Cody 27-15 last Friday night. Cody scored 12 runs in the first inning of the game then the Troops “went off” and out scored Cody 24-3. JD Williams came on early in a relief pitching role and got the win. Tomorrow night the Troops host their biggest games of the season. The Casper Oilers come into Sheridan for a conference double header tomorrow night. The first game will start at 5 o’clock. The Troopers will close out their regular season on July 24th at Gillette. The state double “AA” tournament will be played in Casper and starts Friday July 29th.

The Sheridan Jets placed second at a weekend tournament in Casper. They went 4-1 on the tournament. Their only loss was in the title game against the Casper Drillers. The Jets end their regular season this week with games at Wheatland Wednesday and Sunday at Gillette. The Jets host the “J” state american legion tournament which gets underway next week on Thursday.

It’s 2005 Sheridan Wyo Rodeo Week and it’s year 75 for the annual event in Sheridan county. Festivities begin tomorrow night with the Annual Boot Kick Off and activities in Kendrick Park. The Sankey Rodeo Company takes over at the fairgrounds Wednesday with slack events starting Thursday morning at 8 o’clock. The first performance is Thursday night at 7 o’clock. Friday and Saturday night at 7 with Sunday’s activities wrapping up the week at the Big Horn Equestrian Center.

On Friday join us live on News/Talk 930 KROE for our special Wyo Rodeo live broadcast in downtown Sheridan. We will start at the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast on Grinnell Plaza at 6 o’clock, then on to the Wyo rodeo fun run at 8 o’clock on main street. The Annual Bed Races start at 9 o’clock brought to you by Sheridan Media and the Sheridan Optimist Club then The main event “The 05’ Wyo Rodeo Parade”. All live festivities broadcast Friday brought to you by Kurt Smith and the Sheridan Commercial Company.

Also coming up this weekend the Sheridan Youth Activities Association will host their fundraising golf tournament at Kendrick Golf Course. The tournament is a four person team scramble. They will have several pin prizes, a Calcutta and Sheridan Motors has put up a new car for a “hole in one prize” the tournament chairman is Jerry Grandahl. To register your teams stop by the Kendrick Golf Course Golf Shop. The tournament will shot gun start Saturday morning.

Starting next week The Powder Horn will start a busy two-week run. Scotty Scott hosts the “Summer Hummer” Next week with over 200 golfers for the 4 day event. Following the hummer The Powder Horn will host the Junior America’s Cup Tournament. The Junior America’s Cup Event has been in existence since 1973. It’s a team event for boys ages 13-17. Former players in this event include PGA great’s - Fred Couples, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods. The four person teams will play 54 holes and a practice round starting Sunday the 24th. Teams come from Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Arizona, California, New Mexico, Colorado, Hawaii, Alberta and British Columbia Canada and Mexico. The tournament starts with a practice round on the 24th with the final round Thursday the 28th. The event is being hosted by the Wyoming Golf Association. The tournament director is Doug Raney. Raney says they need volunteers help to be score keepers for the teams. Scorers will go out with each group during their rounds. The public is also invited to come out and watch the golf, admission is free during the tournament.

The Sheridan Troopers continue their current road trip tonight after four games in South Dakota earlier this week. The Troops play two in Cody tonight and the Sheridan Jets will spend the next three days at a tournament in Casper. The Troopers host the Casper Oilers in a conference double header next Tuesday and two with the Billings Scarlets on the 17th. The final home games of the regular season for the Troops will be Monday July 18th against Gillette then they play road games against Cheyenne, Laramie, Torrington and Riverton to close out the regular season. Their state tournament starts July 29th in Casper.

The Jets will have two road double headers left on their schedule after the Casper tournament. This weekend they play at Wheatland July 13th and ag Gillette July 17th. The Jets host their state tournament starting July 21st.

Sheridan Babe Ruth Baseball will host their 13-15 year old district tournament starting tonight at the Field up at the VA Medical Center. Sheridan will open the four-team tournament tonight against Douglas at 5:30. The other game will have Gillette against Buffalo. It’s a double elimination tournament with the title awarded Sunday. The winner receives a bid to compete in the state Babe Ruth Tournament in Casper later this month.

We will have the Colorado Rockies on AM 14-10 KWYO this weekend starting with tonight’s game with San Diego starting at 6:30, tomorrow night at 5:30 and Sunday afternoon at 12:30.

As if you didn’t know next week is 2005 Wyo Rodeo Week. The Annual Book Kick-off, concert and BBQ will start the week off Tuesday in Kendrick Park. The first performance of the 2005 Wyo will be next Thursday and then join us live on KROE and KWTO next Friday as we broadcast live from downtown Sheridan. It will all start at the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast and end at the Wyo Parade and is once again sponsored by Kurt Smith and the Sheridan Commercial Company.

The Sheridan Troopers played in Rapid City South Dakota last night. The Troopers are off today and will play a double header in Cody tonight. Next Tuesday the Troops host a big conference double header with the Casper Oilers. They also play at home against the Scarlets Sunday July 17th. The Troopers will play their final home date of the regular season on Monday July 18th against Gillette. The Troopers will play at the Double “AA” State Tournament in Casper starting July 29th.

The Sheridan Jets had their home games with Gillette cancelled last night as Gillette forfeited both games. The Jets end their regular season at a tournament in Casper which starts tomorrow and then road games at Wheatland on the 13th and Gillette on the 17th. The Jets will host the “B” State Tournament, which starts Thursday July 21st at Thorne-Rider Stadium.

The Sheridan Babe Ruth program will host the 13-15 year old district tournament Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Along with Sheridan teams Buffalo, Douglas and Gillette will compete in the double elimination tournament. The Sheridan All-Stars open the tournament Friday night at 5:30 against Douglas. The other game will have Gillette against Buffalo and will start at 2:30. The tournament is being played on the field at the VA Medical Center. The district champion earns a bid to play in the state Babe Ruth Tournament later this month in Casper.

We will have live Colorado Rockies Baseball for you this weekend when the Rockies host a three game weekend series with the San Diego Padres. All three games can be heard live on am 14-10 KWYO. Tomorrow night’s game will start at 6:30. Saturday night at 5:30 and Sunday afternoon at 12:30.

The Sheridan Troopers opened a four game road swing in Sturgis South Dakota last night. The Troops and Strugis split a competitive double header with Sturgis winning the first game 3-2. Starting pitcher Eric Andrews took the hard luck loss throwing a complete game 4-hitter. Head coach John Araas says they had many chances but just couldn’t get the big hit. In the second game Mickey Niehart started and got an inning of relief from Chris Reynolds. Niehart got the win and Reynolds the save as the Troops pulled out the 6-5 win in their final at bat. The Troops were down 5-4 going into the 7th inning with one out. Micheal Araas got a hit, Chris Reynolds followed with another hit and Chase Patterson got the game winning RBI with a two run double. Tonight the Troops continue the road trip over to Rapid City to play post #22. Following tonight’s games the Troopers return to Sheridan for an off day tomorrow then over to Cody for a double header with the Cubs Friday night. The Troopers next home games will be Tuesday when they host a conference double header with Casper. After the games with Casper the Troopers only have two more home dates, on July 17th with the Billings Scarlets and July 18th with Gillette. The Troopers will play in the double “AA” state tournament in Casper starting July 29th.

The Sheridan Troopers will be on the road this week before returning to Thorne-Rider Stadium next week. The Troopers will play their next four games in South Dakota. They play a double header in Sturgis tonight then over to Rapid City tomorrow night to play two against Rapid City post #22. The next home games for the Troopers will be more conference action next Tuesday the 12th against the Casper Oilers.

The Sheridan Jets will play at home tomorrow night when they host a double header with Gillette starting at 5 o’clock and if you look at the Jets schedule this will be their final regular season home games until they host the class “B” state tournament. The state tournament will open July 21st at Thorne-Rider Stadium. Eight teams will play in this year’s event and it will be the third consecutive year Sheridan will host the state “B” tournament.

The Sheridan Troopers will start the 4th of July holiday weekend on the road in Rapid City South Dakota tonight. The Troopers have won four of their last six games and are coming off a great performance Tuesday, when they swept two games from Sturgis, South Dakota. The Troopers play a double header against Rapid City post #320 tonight, they return home on Tuesday, July 21st, hosting conference games with Casper.
Just another reminder that the Troopers two double-header’s scheduled for Saturday and Sunday with the Australian all star team and with Laramie on the 13th have been cancelled.

The Sheridan Jets will play at home next week on Wednesday against Gillette at 5 o’clock. Coming up later this month, Sheridan will host the class “B” American Legion State Baseball Tournament and this will be the third straight year we have been able to host this event. Seven teams and the Sheridan Jets will open the tournament at Thorne-Rider Stadium, Thursday, July 21st and run through Sunday the 23rd.

Also, look for two big golf tournaments later this month. The Powder Horn will host the annual Summer Hummer starting Wednesday, July 20th and following that event on Monday the 24th the Powder Horn hosts the “Junior America’s Cup.” This event is a team tournament with teams of four boys ages 13-17 competing in this annual event. The teams come from Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Montana, Arizona, California, Hawaii, New Mexico, Texas, Washington, British Columbia Canada and Mexico. The tournament will run from July 24th through the 28th. The tournament host will be the Wyoming State Golf Association. This event started back in 1973 at Pebble Beach in California and is a four person team event. Sheridan’s Doug Raney is the tournament director and Raney says they are looking for volunteer score keepers, scorers will go with each group during their rounds and keep individual and team scores if you are interested in helping out contact Doug Raney at 672-5407 or Jim Scott at the Powder Horn 673-4800.

The Colorado Rockies open up a weekend series at St. Louis and we will have Sunday’s game live on am 1410 KWYO starting at 11:30 Sunday morning, we will also have their 4th of July home game Monday night against Los Angeles at 5:30.
