04/29/05

Weather will once again dictate how many events will be changed this weekend. So far the Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc soccer matches with buffalo will be played today. The Broncs play at Buffalo and the Lady Broncs host matches at 4 and 6 pm. Tomorrow the Broncs host Gillette at 10am and noon with the Lady Broncs playing at Gillette.
Several matches were cancelled in southern Wyoming. several teams are meeting at Casper Natrona to play matches because they can use the artificial turf at Cheney Field.

The Broncs and Lady Bronc track teams compete at an invitational tomorrow hosted by NSI.

The Bronc and Lady Bronc golfers are scheduled for a tournament in Buffalo tomorrow but again all these activities depend on the weather and playing conditions.

The Sheridan Troopers are also scheduled for action tomorrow up in Billings. They’ll play a double header with the Billings Royals weather permitting.

Join us for “Breakfast With the Coaches” tomorrow live on am 14-10 KWYO starting at 8 am at Perkins. Joining us on the show tomorrow will be Sheridan College women’s basketball coach Frank McCarthy and representatives from The Powder Horn including Powder Horn golf professional Mark Metzger.

Weather permitting a busy weekend of high school sports is scheduled to start tomorrow. The Wyoming Track Classic is scheduled for Casper tomorrow. The top eight times and marks in the running and field events in the state so far this spring are invited to compete in the all-star meet tomorrow. It’s an all-class invite and several athletes from Sheridan County schools will compete. On Saturday the Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc full squad track teams will compete at an invitational meet in Cody. Coming up in May Homer Scott Stadium will be a busy place. The Bronc and Lady Bronc track teams host the 2005 north 4-a regional track meet the meet. That meet will be held May 13th and 14th. The all class state championships will be in Casper May 19th through the 21st.

Sheridan will also host the 2005 state high school soccer championships. The state tournament will be played May 19th through the 21st. This week the Broncs and Lady Broncs have matches will Buffalo tomorrow. The Broncs will play at Buffalo while the Lady Broncs host the Lady Bison. JV’s will play at 4 and the varsity at 6 o’clock. On Saturday the Broncs host Gillette with the JV’s at 10 am and the varsity at noon. The Lady Broncs play at Gillette Saturday.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc golfers are scheduled to compete at the Buffalo invite Saturday.

On Saturday’s Breakfast With the Coaches Show our topics will be basketball and golf. Sheridan College Lady Generals basketball coach Frank McCarthy will join us on the show and also representatives from the Powder Horn will be our guests on the show. Breakfast With the Coaches can be heard live Saturday morning at 8 o’clock on am 14-10 KWYO.

Snow and rain in Denver yesterday forced cancellation of the Rockies / Florida Marlins game, they will play a double header today. Our next Rockies broadcast comes to you live tomorrow night when the Rockies open a weekend road series in Los Angeles.

Over 300 Wyoming Cowboy fans attended last night’s Cowboy Joe reception at the Powder Horn. The new club house was packed when head football coach Joe Glenn addressed the crowd. His comments got the crowd pumped up and Glenn led all the fans on the piano with the singing of “Ragtime Cowboy Joe”. Along with Glenn U-W athletic director Gary Barta attended last night’s function.I had a chance to sit down with Glenn before the evening got rolling and we talked about turning around the cowboy football program to a bowl winner in just two season’s and Glenn says it was tough on everyone but they got it down. Glenn says the winning helps generate more excitement around the state and he says the whole state has come together to make the university athletics even better. Glenn says the defining moment came at the half of the Las Vegas Bowl and gave credit to players for coming back to beat UCLA.

In local action this week; Friday the Bronc and Lady Bronc soccer teams play games against Buffalo. The girls host the Lady Bison at 4 and 6 o’clock while the Broncs play at Buffalo. Saturday the Broncs host Gillette at noon and the Lady Broncs play at Gillette.

In track and field action the state hosts the Wyoming Track Classic Friday in Casper and the Broncs and Lady Broncs will also compete at an invitational in Cody Saturday. NSI is hosting their invitational on Saturday where the rest of our Sheridan County teams will compete.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc golfers are scheduled to play at their next tournament in Buffalo Saturday.

Weather permitting the Sheridan Troopers open their baseball season Saturday afternoon with a double header up in Billings against the Billings Royals. The Troops home opener is scheduled for Mothers Day May 8th when they host the Billings Lobos in an afternoon double header at Thorne-Rider Stadium.

The Sheridan Troopers open their baseball season this Saturday when they play two games at the Billings Royals. They will play their home opener Sunday May 8th against the Billings Lobos. The players have been working out for the last four weeks. Manager John Araas says the players have put in a lot of hard work to get ready for the opener . This is the earliest the Troopers have ever started a season and Araas says it gives them a good jump-start to the summer part of the season. The home opener is Sunday May 8th at 1 o’clock at Thorne-Rider Stadium.

In other local action this week several members of the Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc track teams will compete at the Wyoming Track Classic Friday in Casper. The Track Classic is an invitational for the best athletes this spring . The top eight times and distances in each running and field event will meet to compete against each other Friday. On Saturday the Broncs and Lady Broncs will compete at the Cody Invitational.

The Sheridan Bronc soccer team plays at Buffalo Friday night and at home Saturday afternoon against Gillette at noon. The Lady Broncs host Buffalo Friday at 4 and 6 pm then they play at Gillette Saturday afternoon.

The Bronc and Lady Bronc golfers will compete at the Buffalo Invitational Saturday.

Wyoming football coach Joe Glenn will be in Sheridan tonight to participate in the Sheridan County Cowboy Joe Club’s membership kickoff for 2005. The event will be held tonight at the new Powder Horn Club House. This event is free and open to all Cowboy fans. Please contact the Cowboy Joe outreach coordinator Brian Morgan if you plan to attend tonight’s festivities. They need an accurate head count. Call 674-7572.
Glenn will make a presentation to the crowd tonight and it’ll be a chance for fans to talk with the coach one on one it all starts tonight at 5:30 at the new clubhouse at the Powder Horn.

The Sheridan Broncs placed 10th and the Lady Broncs were 6th overall at an invitational track meet in Scottsbluff Nebraska. Top finishers for the Broncs were Ben Soukup who was 2nd in the 110-meter hurdles and 5th in the 300 his time in the 300-meter hurdles tied his own school record. Jared brown was 4th in the 400 meters, Brian Bell was 5th in the 1600 meters, Carl Hiene finished 7th in the 3200 meters and Scott Pettie was 7th in the pole vault and also qualified for the state meet. Head coach Art Bauers says the Broncs had a pretty good meet.

The Lady Broncs had a pretty good day in Scottsbluff as well. Shelly Forbes won the 3200 meters and Anya Wechsler was 1st in the pole vault. Kim May was 6th in the 3200 meters, Carlee Carisoza was 3rd in the 800 meters and Jamie Freeman ran her fastest time in the 300-meter hurdles and qualified for the state meet. Jessica Horsley was 3rd in the discus and 5th in the shot put. The Lady Broncs 4 by 400-meter relay team was 3rd.

This week Casper is hosting the Wyoming Track Classic Friday. All the athletes with the best times and distances in their events this spring are invited to compete in this meet. The top eight from each event will qualify and Art Bauers says they expect to have 16 athletes competing. The meet in Casper is Friday. On Saturday the Broncs and Lady Broncs will compete at the Cody Invitational.

The Lady Bronc soccer team got shut out at a jamboree in Riverton Saturday. They had a scoreless tie with Lander and dropped matches against Riverton and Cody 1-0 and 3-0. The Broncs dropped their match at Cody 3-0. This week both teams play Buffalo Friday, the Lady Broncs at home with the Broncs at Buffalo. Saturday, the Broncs host Gillette at noon and the Lady Broncs play at Gillette.

Tonight Sheridan American Legion Baseball umpire in chief Pat Gallagher will host an American Legion Baseball umpire meeting. Anyone interested in umpiring games this summer for the Sheridan Jets and Troopers are asked to attend tonight’s meeting at 6:30 at Thorne-Rider Stadium. The Troopers open their season Sunday in Billings and will play their home opener Sunday May 8th.

Sheridan County Cowboy Joe will kick off their 2005 membership drive tomorrow when Wyoming football coach Joe Glenn comes to town for a fan reception. The event will start tomorrow night at 5:30 in the new clubhouse at The Powder Horn. All Cowboy fans are invited to attend refreshments will be served. Glenn will make an informal presentation to all the fans and then fans will have chance to visit with the coach one on one. The Sheridan County Cowboy Joe Club will kickoff their spring membership drive Tuesday when University of Wyoming head football coach Joe Glenn comes to Sheridan for a free reception with all Cowboy Fans. The event will be held at the new clubhouse at the Powder Horn and will start at 5:30 Tuesday night. All Wyoming football fans are encouraged to attend to meet with Coach Glenn. Glenn will address all those in attendance and fans will also have a chance to talk with Glenn one on one. The Cowboy Joe Club would like to have a head count before the event as refreshments will be served. Please RSVP to Brian Morgan at 674-7572.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc soccer teams will be on the road this weekend. They’ll compete at a jamboree in Riverton tomorrow.

The Sheridan High School track teams will compete at a meet this afternoon in Scottsbluff Nebraska. In the after match of the spring snow storm Wright high school was scheduled to host their invitational in Gillette later today. No word this morning on the status of that event. The Sheridan High School Jv’s, the Tongue River teams and the Big Horn and NSI teams are all scheduled to compete at that meet.

Tomorrow the Sheridan High School golfers are scheduled to play at a tournament in Douglas.

The Sheridan Recreation District has extended Webb Wright Baseball registration another week. The registration deadline was scheduled for today but they have extended registration through next Friday at the Rec office in Thorne-Rider Park.

Sheridan American Legion Baseball will host a Sheridan Troopers and Jets umpires clinic Monday night at Thorne-Rider Stadium. Anyone interested in umpiring Sheridan Jets and Troopers Baseball this summer are asked to attend Monday’s meeting.

The Sheridan County Cowboy Joe Club will host an evening with Wyoming head football coach Joe Glenn Tuesday night at 5:30 at the new Powder Horn Club House. The event will kick off the Cowboy Joe Club’s membership drive for 2005. All Wyoming Cowboy fans are invited to attend. Whitey Wells from the Sheridan Rec District has announced that they will hold Webb Wright Baseball registration for an extra week. The deadline was to be tomorrow and now they will cut off registration next Friday April 29th.

The Rec District will be hosting the Sheridan Hersey Track Meet on May 24th at Homer Scott Stadium at Sheridan High School beginning at 4 o’clock. Hersey Track is open to all boys and girls ages 9-14. Each participant can compete in three events. This year Sheridan will also host the State Hersey Track Meet where qualifiers will advance to the National Hersey Track Meet in Hersey Pennsylvania. The state meet will be held Saturday May 25th.

In local sports action tomorrow all Sheridan County Track Teams will be on the road. Wright High School is hosting an invitational in Gillette tomorrow. The Sheridan High School JV’s along with Tongue River, Big Horn and NSI will also compete in Gillette.
The Bronc and Lady Bronc varsity track teams will compete at an invitational meet tomorrow in Scottsbluff Nebraska.

The Bronc and Lady Bronc soccer teams will be on the road this weekend as well. The Broncs play at Cody tomorrow and then join the Lady Broncs at the Riverton Jamboree Saturday.

The Sheridan High School golfers will play at a tournament in Douglas Saturday.

The selections have been made for the teams that will represent Wyoming in the annual Wyoming/Montana High School All-Star Basketball Series for 2005. The games will be played the first weekend in June at the Hoffman Dome and up in billings at Rocky Mtn. College. One Sheridan County player made this year’s team, Molly Schederline from the state champion Tongue River Lady Eagles will be part of this years Wyoming Girls All-Star team. Joining Schednerline will be Megan Mcguffey and Jesse Carlson from Cheyenne east, Ashley Fornstrom from Cheyenne Central, Brett Ingram and Megan McKay from Natrona County. Also Douglas High School teammates Chickie Washington and Jamie Schroder who won back to back state titles, 6’4 Jenny Rayback from Star Valley along with Katie Hooker from Casper Kelly Walsh. Encampments Alishia Craft was named to the team but will be unable to play in the series.

For the boys the team will have Rocksprings teammates Casey Riley and Kid Wilk. Riley by the way will play for the Sheridan College Generals this fall. Also on the team is Andy Pakorny from Laramie, Eric Elgin from Riverton, Bobby Pickle from Green River, Brandon Griffin from Cheyenne Central, Trevor Blumel from Kelly Walsh, Nate Miller from Thermopolis, Mike Riemer from Newcastle and Jackson Geeson from Wright. Games will be played Friday June 3rd at the Hoffman Dome at 6 and 8 pm and in Billings on the 4th at 6 and 8 pm.

The Track teams will compete at an invitational Friday in Scottsbluff Nebraska. The Bronc and Lady Bronc JV’s will compete at the Wright Invitational over in Gillette.

The Bronc and Lady Bronc soccer teams will play at a jamboree in Riverton.

The Sheridan Troopers open their baseball season April 30th on the road in Billings against the Scarlets. The Troops home opener is on Sunday May 8th against the Billings Lobos. That double header will start at 1 o’clock in the afternoon.

University of Wyoming football fans in Sheridan County will get a real treat next week. Next Tuesday April 26th the University of Wyoming Cowboy Joe Club is bringing Cowboy head football coach Joe Glenn to Sheridan. Glenn will meet and greet all fans at a reception next Tuesday evening starting at 5:30 at the new Powder Horn Club House. The event is free and is open to all cowboy fans. This event kicks off the Sheridan County Cowboy Joe Club’s 2005 membership drive. The coach will give an informal talk to fans during this event and it’s also a great opportunity to meet a visit with Glenn one on one. Glenn is a great speaker and all fans will really enjoy the evening. Again that’s next Tuesday April 26th at the new Powder Horn Club House starting at 5:30.

On the local sports scene this week all teams will be on the road. The Bronc and Lady Bronc soccer teams will each play three road matches. The Lady Broncs play three at a jamboree in Riverton, the Broncs play at Cody Friday and then in Riverton Saturday for matches with Lander and Riverton.

The Bronc and Lady Bronc varsity track teams will compete at a meet Friday in Scottsbluff Nebraska. The rest of our Sheridan County teams will compete Friday at a meet in Gillette hosted by Wright High School.

04/18/05

The Sheridan Lady Bronc soccer team continues to roll after starting the season 0-2. Since then the Lady Broncs haven’t lost in eight straight matches including a win over Gillette last Thursday and then a 5-0 shut-out at Worland Friday. The Lady Broncs are now 6-2-1 overall. The Broncs drooped both matches last week against Gillette Thursday and a 3-0 loss at home Friday against Worland. This week the Broncs play at Cody Friday and then over to Riverton Saturday for a jamboree with matches against Riverton and Lander. The Lady Broncs will play at the jamboree in Riverton Saturday as well. They will play matches Saturday against Cody, Riverton and Lander.

The Sheridan High School track teams competed at an invitational meet in Rapid City Saturday. The Broncs finished 8th and the Lady Broncs were 6th overall. For the Lady Broncs, Karlee Carizosa was 4th in the 400 meters, Kim May finished 5th in the 1600 meters, the 3200 meter relay team was 2nd. Anya Wechsler blew the field away in the pole vault at 11’9 which was two feet higher then the rest of the field. Jessica Horsely was 2nd in the shot put and 3rd in discus. For the Broncs, Celedon Green was 4th in the 200 meters, Carl Hiene was 3rd in the 3200 meters, Ben Soukup was 3rd in the 300 meter hurdles and the Broncs 1600 meter relay team was 4th.

Buffalo high school hosted the Jerry Campbell invitational Saturday and Sheridan County was well represented. The Tongue River Lady Eagles finished 3rd, the Big Horn Lady Rams were 5th, NSI tied for 8th and the Lady Bronc JV’s finished 10th. In the boys team race the Big Horn Rams finished second behind Buffalo, Tongue River was 4th, NSI was 9th and the Bronc JV’s were 11th overall.

Tomorrow Sheridan High School will host an all–comers meet at Homer Scott Stadium. Last weeks meet started around 5 o’clock. Later this week the Bronc and Lady Bronc JV’s will compete at a meet in Gillette Friday and the Sheridan High School varsity teams will compete at an invitational Friday in Scotts Bluff Nebraska.

The Sheridan high school Golfers will play at a tournament in Casper this afternoon and then at an invitational at Douglas Saturday.

The Sheridan Lady Bronc soccer team is on a roll since starting the season 0-2. The Lady Broncs have not lost in seven straight matches including last night’s 2-0 shut-out win over Gillette. The Lady Broncs are now 5-2-2 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play they play on the road at Worland this evening. The Broncs will play at home tonight against Worland. The J.V. match will start at 4 and the varsity will go at 6 o’clock.

In track and field action this weekend the Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc track teams will compete at an invitational meet in Rapid City tomorrow. The Bronc and Lady Bronc J.V.’s will compete at the Buffalo Invitational tomorrow. Also, Tongue River and Big Horn will compete in Buffalo.

We will have live Colorado Rockies baseball for you tonight on am 14-10 KWYO. The Rockies open up a weekend home stand against San Francisco tonight live at 6 pm. Tomorrow night’s game is at 5:30 and Sunday afternoon at 12:30. All three games live on am 14-10 KWYO.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc soccer teams will see action tonight. The Broncs will play at Gillette and the Lady Broncs host Gillette this evening at Homer scott Stadium. The JV’s will start at 4 o’clock and the varsity at 6. Tomorrow the Broncs will play at home against Worland and the girls will play at Worland tomorrow.

Our Sheridan County track teams will compete on the road Saturday. The Sheridan High School varsity teams will compete in Rapid City Saturday while the Bronc and Lady Bronc JV’s along with Tongue River, Big Horn and NSI will all compete at the Buffalo Invitational.

The Sheridan High School golfers play their next tournament Monday in Casper, the Broncs and Lady Broncs will host the Sheridan Invitational at Kendrick Golf Course May 14th.

The Sheridan Troopers are two weeks away from opening their season. The Troops play a double header at the Billings Scarlets on April 30th. The troops open at Thorne-Rider Stadium Sunday May 8th against the Billings Lobos.

Next week is the final week to register players for the up coming Webb Wright Baseball season, the Rec District will have five leagues this year: 6/7 year olds, 8/9 year olds, 10/11 year olds, 12/13 year olds and 14/15 year olds the final day to register is Friday April 22nd.

The Colorado Rockies return to Coors Field this weekend after getting swept at Arizona. The Rockies host San Francisco in our next broadcast tomorrow night at 6 o’clock on am 14-10 KWYO.

Today is national signing day for college basketball players. It is the first official day high school or junior college players can sign national letters of intent to play with new teams. Former Sheridan High School All-State player and Sheridan College General Devan Royer will sign a letter of intent to play the next two years at Western Colorado Univeristy in Gunnison Colorado. During his high school days Royer led the Sheridan Broncs to a state title in 2002. It was the Broncs second state title and first since 1959. In leading the Broncs to the title in 2002 Royer was also named the Wyoming Player of The Year and was an All State performer three times during his high school career. Royer ends a solid career at Sheridan College as a two-year starter. Several other Sheridan college sophomores will also sign with their respective schools today as well.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc soccer teams get back into action tomorrow night. The Broncs will play at Gillette and the Lady Broncs will host Gillette. The JV’s play tomorrow at 4 pm and the varsity at 6 o’clock. Friday the Lady Broncs play at Worland and the Broncs host Worland also at 4 and 6 o’clock.

The Bronc and Lady Bronc track teams compete at an invitational in Rapid City Saturday. The JV’s will compete at the Buffalo Invitational.

The Colorado Rockies lost 4-2 at Arizona last night. Our next Rockies broadcast will be Friday night when the Rockies open a weekend home series with San Francisco Friday night at 6 o’clock

Sheridan High School will host an all-comers track meet this evening at Homer Scott Stadium. Events are scheduled to get underway at 4 o’clock. This weekend the Bronc and Lady Bronc varsity teams will compete at the Rapid City Track O’Rama Inviational and the JV’s will compete at the Buffalo Invitational.

In Bronc and Lady Bronc soccer action this week both teams will get a chance to play at home. The Broncs play at Gillette Friday night and host matches with Worland Friday. The Lady Broncs host Gillette Thursday and play at Worland Friday. The Broncs and Lady Bronc golfers are off until the 18th when they play at the Casoer Invitational.

The Colorado Rockies lost 2-0 in the opener of their series at Arizona last night. You can hear tonight’s game live on am 14-10 KWYO. Broadcast time is at 7 o’clock.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc soccer teams had a pretty good day in Casper Friday competing at the Casper Jamboree. All 17 varsity high school soccer teams played in the event. The Lady Broncs won three matches and tied one; they had a 0-0 tie with Cheyenne Central and took victories against Green River 1-0, Powell 4-0 and Lander 2-1. The Lady Broncs play their next matches at home Thursday against Gillette. JV’s at 4 and the varsity at 6 o’clock. The Broncs went 3-1 at the Casper Jamboree. Their only loss was 3-0 against Cheyenne Central. They took wins from Green River, Lander and they routed Powell 5-0. The Broncs will play at Gillette Thursday and at home against Worland Friday.

The Bronc and Lady Bronc track teams competed at a meet in Spearfish South Dakota Saturday. The Lady Broncs finished 4th and the Broncs finished 8th. Both Tongue River teams were also in Spearfish. The Eagles finished 9th and the Lady Eagles 12th. Individual leaders for the Lady Broncs were Kelly Gariffa who won the 200 meters and the triple jump. Jamie Freeman won the 100-meter hurdles, Shelly Forbes won the 3200 meters, Anya Wechsler took the pole vault. Other top placers were Kim May 4th in the 3200 meters and Cali Townsend 4th in the 400 meters. For the Broncs Karl Hiene won the 3200 meters and Scott Petite was 3rd in the pole vault. For Tongue River Wyatt Schrank was 4th in the triple jump, their 400-meter relay was 3rd and 3200-meter relay was 5th.

The Big Horn Rams took first place as a team at the Lusk Invitational Saturday. They beat Lingle for the team title by three points 108 to 105. The Lady Rams finished 7th overall and the Lady Panthers from Arvada/Clearmont finished in 10th place. There will be track and field tomorrow at Sheridan High School as the Broncs and Lady Broncs host an all-comers meet. Events will start at 4 o’clock.

Big Horn High School senior Martin Ree has signed a letter of intent to play football at South Dakota Tech in Rapid City. Ree stared for the Rams defense and offensive lines on the last two state championship teams. Teammate Casey Gregerson signed two weeks ago to play football at Rocky Mountain College in Billings.

Shauna Smith - Outstanding UW Track Athlete and Former Sheridan Track Athlete

Yesterday we talked about former Sheridan High School track stand-out Shauna Smith’s spring success at the University of Wyoming in the 400 and 100 meter hurdles. Now the mountain west conference has named smith as the athlete of the week. Last week at BYU Smith won the 400 and 100-meter hurdles and also anchored the cowgirls winning 400-meter relay team. Smith currently holds the mountain west conference record in the 400-meter hurdles along with the University of Wyoming record. Her times in the 100 and 400 and the 400 meter relay are all NCAA regional qualifying times. Smith is a three –time NCAA All-American and the first Cowgirl hurdler ever to be earn All-America status. Tomorrow Smith and the rest of the UW track team will be competing at an invitational at Colorado in Boulder.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc soccer teams take on the Evanston teams in matches that will take place in Casper this afternoon. Tomorrow the Broncs and Lady Broncs will join the rest of the high school soccer program’s in the state for the Annual Casper Jamboree. The next home matches for the Lady Broncs will be next week on Thursday against Gillette. The next home match for the Broncs will be next Friday against Worland.

The Bronc and Lady Bronc track teams compete at an invitational meet in Spearfish South Dakota tomorrow and the Broncs and Lady Bronc golfers have the weekend off and will compete in their next tournament Monday in Casper.

Tomorrow on our Breakfast With the Coaches Show we will be talking golf with new Kendrick Golf Course Professional Brian James. We missed James on the show two weeks ago and with Kendrick now open for the season he will join us on the program tomorrow. The University of Wyoming track teams are having a pretty good spring, seven athletes from U-W and two relay teams currently rank in the top 40 in their events in the country. Sheridan native and cowgirl senior Shauna Smith continues to impress this spring. The former Lady Bronc, all-state performer has the fastest time in the country this year in the 400 meter hurdles and her time of 57 –point –39 seconds is 5th fastest in the world this year. Smith also has the 13th fastest time in the country in the 100 meter hurdles at 13-point-55 seconds.

On the local track scene the Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc track teams compete at a meet in Spearfish, South Dakota Saturday. In youth track and field, The Sheridan Rec. District will host Sheridan’s local Hersey Track Meet May 24th at Sheridan High School. Hersey Track. is a national program for boys and girls ages 9-14. Participants can enter three events either two field events and one running event or two running events and one field event. For more information contact the Rec. District at 674-6421. Sheridan will also host the 2005 state Hersey Track Meet. all qualifiers from local meets from around the state will compete in Sheridan Saturday June 25th.

In other local action this week the Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc soccer teams will spend the weekend competing in Casper. Friday the Broncs and Lady Broncs play matches against Evanston and Saturday they’ll compete in the Casper Jamboree.

The Colorado Rockies lost 14-6 at Coors Field last night against the San Diego Padres. Our next Rockies broadcast will be tomorrow night when the Rockies play at San Francisco Friday night’s broadcast will start at 7:30.

The Sheridan high school soccer teams had mixed results last night against the Casper Natrona Mustangs and Fillies. The Broncs dropped a 2-0 match against NC with the Mustangs scoring one goal in each half, the Lady Broncs and Casper Natrona played to a scoreless overtime tie. The Broncs are now 0-3 and the Lady Broncs are 0-2-1 overall. Later this week both teams will play road matches in Casper. Friday against the Evanston teams and the Broncs and Lady Broncs compete in a jamboree in Casper Saturday.

The Broncs and Lady Bronc golfers will play their next tournament Monday at the Casper Invitational and the Bronc and Lady Bronc track teams will compete at an invitational in Spearfish Saturday.

The Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres play at Coors Field tonight after an off day. The Rockies won the opener 12-10 Monday. You can hear tonight’s game live on am 14-10 KWYO. The pre-game show starts at 6 o’clock

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc soccer teams play matches against the Natrona County teams tonight. The Broncs are 0-2 and will play at NC tonight. The Lady Broncs are also 0-2 and will host Natrona tonight. The JV match will start at 4 pm with the varsity match at 6 o’clock.

The Sheridan Recreation District along with Sheridan Media and the Anti Tobacco Coalition will host the 3rd Annual Kicks Butts Basketball Games at the Hoffman Dome Friday night. For the first time this year there will be a girls game and a boys game. The girls game will start at 6 o’clock and will have a Sheridan County High School All-Star Team taking on the Sheridan College Lady Generals. At 8 o’clock a team of Sheridan County boys high school players will take on the Rec District’s Men’s League Champions. Every high school in Sheridan County will have a player on each team and game.

In other Recreation District notes Webb Wright Baseball registration is underway. Webb Wright coordinator Whitey Wells wants to make sure that parents get player signed up as soon as possible. League play begins in May.

In other high school action this week, the Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc track teams will compete at an invitational meet in Spearfish South Dakota Saturday.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc golfers will play in their next tournament scheduled for Monday April 18th at Casper.

The Sheridan Troopers will open their season with a double header in Billings against the Billings Scarlets April 30th. The home opener for the Troops is scheduled for Sunday May 8th against the Billings Lobos.

The Colorado Rockies started the 2005 major league baseball season with a dramatic come from behind win at Coors Field yesterday. Rookie Matt Barmes hit a walk off two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Rockies a 12-10 win over San Diego. They are off today and both teams play in Denver tomorrow. Our Sheridan County track teams competed at invitationals in Gillette and Worland over the weekend. No team scores were kept at the Gillette Invitational but several Bronc and Lady Bronc track athletes preformed well. For the Broncs, Ben Soukup finished first in the 110 hurdles, 5th in the 200 and 3rd in the high jump, Brian Bell was 2nd in the 1600 meters and 3rd in the 800 meters, Scott Pettit was 2nd in the pole vault, Reece Hall finished 3rd in the shot put and 4th in the discus. For the Lady Broncs Kelli Garrifa finished 6th in the 200, 7th in the 100 and 4th in the long jump. Kim Carter was 8th in the 200, Karlee Carizosa was 2nd in the 400 meters, Shelly Forbes was 2nd in the 800 and 1600 meters, Anya Wechsler was 1st in the pole vault and Jessica Horsley was 2nd in both the shot put and discus. This week the Broncs and Lady Broncs will compete at an invitational Saturday in Spearfish, South Dakota.

The Big Horn Rams finished 5th at the Worland Invitational and the Tongue River Eagles were 7th. In the girls Big Horn was 7th and the TR girls were 8th.

The Bronc and Lady Bronc soccer teams are still looking for their first wins of the spring after Buffalo scored 2-0 victories over the Sheridan teams last Friday. Tomorrow night the Broncs will play at Natrona County and the Lady Broncs will host NC. JV’s at 4 o’clock and the varsity at 6 o’clock.

The Sheridan Recreation District opens up Webb Wright baseball registration today, parents can register players Monday through Friday between 8 and 5 at the Rec. Office through April 22nd. They have leagues for 6/7 year olds,8/9 year olds, 10/11 year olds,12-13 year olds and 14/15 year olds. League play begins in May.

The Sheridan chapter of Walleyes Unlimited will host their monthly meeting tomorrow night at 6:30 at the Kalif Shrine. Tongue River Reservoir State Park supervisor Bob Peterson will be on hand to discuss the status of the fishery at the reservoir, everyone is invited to attend.

The Broncs and Lady Bronc soccer teams are looking for their first victories of the season after openeing with losses against Kelly Walsh High School on Tuesday. Tonight the Broncs host games with Buffalo. The JB’s will play at 4pm and the varsity at 6 o’clock. The Lady Broncs play at Buffalo also at 4 and 6 o’clock. Next week both teams play on Tuesday. The Lady Broncs host Casper Natrona and the Broncs play at NC.

Our Sheridan County track teams will represent the county at two track meets tomorrow. Gillette and Worland are hosting invitationals which get underway at 9 o’clock tomorrow morning.

The Sheridan Bronc and Lady Bronc golfers open their spring season tomorrow at a tournament in Worland.
