Should the School District #1 Trustees who served alcohol at Prom parties resign from the School Board?

Yes
No
Undecided

I don't understand why there is any discussion taking place on this issue. IF the allegations are true, the trustees should resign immediately, and they should exhibit at least a shred of integrity by doing so without being asked.

Not only should the school board members be let go they should also be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Isn't there a law that protects our young people against people like that. Isn't there a law against supplying alcohol to minors.

There is an atricle in Sundays Casper paper that a woman and her ex husband are going to jail for 27 months for serving alcohol to minors. I think the trustees should reisgn, publicly aplogize and thank god none of those that they gave alcohol to had an accident!!!!!

Should the City and County contract exclusively with Rocky Mountain Ambulance for ambulance service?

Yes
No
Undecided

Rocky Mountain isn't dependable now just responding to 50% of the calls. One example is on May 5 at 9pm they were called out to Pompey Creek in the county. Approximately 8 minutes later Sheridan Fire was called out because Rocky's ambulance wouldn't start. That 8 minutes could be very important. They didn't even have a 2nd ambulance to take. What if there were 2 calls at the same time? There are too many what ifs.

The city council members need to stand up for the citizens and do some research and not take the mayor's work for it. They need to give all 911 calls back to the fire department and also deal fairly with the county.

- I have used their service in the passed and would not use anyother service.

Definitely not. They don't have the vast experience they claim to have. I just read in Ballard's letter in the paper and it stated they are hiring many additional basics. That is because they just finished a EMT basic class. How much true street experience do these new basics have? The class is easy to pass and get your certification, it is through many varied experiences that an EMT becomes efficient and worth productive. I don't want any of these new basics, intermediates, paramedics or even nurses coming to help me or anyone else I know because of the lack of street experience.

Do you support the Immigration Reform Bill being considered by the U.S. Senate?

Yes
No
Undecided

I am so amazed that the President, House and Senate do not hear what most of the country is saying. They do not deserve to be handed citizenship. That really gives them more power and demeans those that worked so hard to achieve their citizenship legally.

I don't have a lot of faith that anything is going to change. They are already concidered ILLEGAL immigrants, but they stroll through our country with little concern of being arrested or deported. They use our emergency rooms, frequent our jails, send their children to our schools, protest under their flag in our country, won't learn our language, show little respect for our country, and i could go on and on.
I think it is just another round of the age old debate over immigration. Where much is suggested and little is done.

So I guess nobody here comprehends what human rights are. Even if you're an illegal alien, you still have rights. Personally, I think America has turned into a culture of fear. Has anyone here lost a job to an illegal alien? I didn't think so. Someone has to do the job, and if there are not any lazy, fat Americans who want to do the job, then give it to someone who will.

How much are you willihg to have your monthly utility bill increased to pay the cost of recycling?

$0
$5/month
$10/month
$15/month
$25/month

This is rediculous! Don't we pay enough on our utilities? And what is the city going to do...sell the recycleables and keep the cash AND our fee???

I understand Gillette recently made money by recycling. I attended a graduation party this past weekend and was appalled at all the items that could have been recycled, had been used once, and were pitched into the garbage, easier, I was told. It is a crime! We need to get going on this and fast!

I'm all for a better recycling programme, and would be willing to pay up to $10/mo to make it happen. Thanks for all your hard work.

I don't think we should have to pay anything. We already pay taxes on the goods that we buy, why should we have to pay to get rid of the empty containers and things? Wyoming prides it self on opperating on a surplus budget every year and besides having that extra money, they hit us with an extra 1 cent sales tax. Americans are taxed to death, it's time our Fed, State and local governments use our tax dollars more responsibly and stop wasting our money on "PORK"!

Should materials be recycled if it's less expensive to bury the material in a landfill?

Yes
No
Undecided

- Yes, I think recycling is a good thing and I wish Sheridan would go to curbside recycle pickup.
Recycling helps everyone because it helps save our natural resources for future generations to come.

- any material that can be recycled should be. It will also insure that the landfill lasts longer. Land is fast becoming used up in this country.

- Recycling items is the responsible thing to do.

- We could fix this dynamic real easy, just charge more at the landfill, plus we could go even farther: we could charge admission to watch your garbage being buried. "Look grampa' there's yer' old National Geographics and look, over there that's our used conger panels.. oops, it's gone should'a looked quicker"

- Our culture is beginning to recognize the long-term costs of "affluenza." At the moment, recycling may seem expensive. However, more consumer goods are being manufuctured with recyclability as part of their design. And the cost of garbage burial continues to rise. Recycling will soon be the least expensive way to deal with our waste issues. Thank you for addressing this important issue!

Would you support the County taking over responsibility for both City and County Fire Protection?

Yes
No
Undecided
Other

At this point, I don't see how the county would be able to handle both City and County emergency services. There would need to be a large amount of equipment purchased to be able to cover that area, and that many people. Where is the funding going to come from?

- I think we, the city and county, need to work together for the good of all. Fire protection is vital to a healthy community.

Volunteer Fire Fighters can do the job just as well as the paid Fire Department. Our Fire Department as an over inflated view of themselves. They think they are the "Golden Boys of the Brotherhood", and no one can do a job as good as they can. They have lost the focus of community involvement.

I think this is something that needs to be looked at by both city and county. They could combine or consolidate in alot of areas in goverment. What about Law Enforcement it could and should be combined.

Should the City pay the firefighters more than other City employees?

Yes
No
Undecided

For the individual that "knows for a fact" that a person hired as a firefighter already starts at a higher pay scale than other city departments - I believe the actual amount is close to $12.00 per hour - do any other city employees start at a higher scale than that. I would certainly say yes!

The form of the question is confusing. The firefighters are paid in a range like all of us City employees

I believe that the firefighters should receive a liveable wage. They have a dangerous job and provide a vauable service to the community. They should be paid accordingly. Shame on anyone who thinks differently. My husband was a volunteer fireman for many years. Volunteer means he did it for free.

I dont think the city should pay the firefighters more money than other city employees. The police department risk their lives everytime they put on the uniform, why do we put the fire department on a pedastool. There are many other jobs in the city that are very important. For example why dont you cut the garbage men for a week and then see how important every job is.

Should individuals with psychiatric problems be allowed to purchase firearms in the U.S.?

Yes
No
Undecided
Other

- Now as in the past Mental Health deficencies should be denied to purchase firearms of any type. In these crazy times no cray people should be allowed to have guns.

While I don't think that assult weapons should be sold to anyone, I do support every US citizen's second amendment right to bear arms. Yes it's tragic that the occasional nutball uses guns to kill inocent people, but if a crazy person really wants to kill people they will find a way; regardless whether they can buy guns or not.

- They are violating the law NOW if they do! What's not to understand about this???
A better question would be:
Should people legally authorized and trained to carry weapons be allowed to purchase AND carry weapons unrestricted?... Including schools and the post office.

- Presently it is illegal for a person with mental problems to purchase any type of firearm...does not mean it does not happen.

Week of 04/13/07

Do you agree with the decision to have the City and County provide separate ambulance services?

Yes
No
Undecided

I support the decision. I do not think that it would be prudent for the county to pay the city $800,000 to $1,200,000 per year. Sheridan Fire-Rescue already has the equipment and staff, as they provide emergency services to the city. One would expect county residents to recieve ambulance services for free if the county if having to pay the city that kind of money. County residents would still be charged for services rendered.

There is another private ambulance company in town that I know from personal experience is very patient-oriented and provides excellent patient care. Rocky Mountain Ambulance says they can provide the same service to the county for $100,000 per year. I'm confident that most county residents can think of a project or two that the $700,000 to $1,100,000 difference could be put towards. Let's use our tax dollars wisely and get the most out of them that we can!

- I believe that if a private sector can perform the same service for cheaper than lets save the tax payers some money

- Ultimately it will be the citizens of Sheridan who lose if the ambulance service is given away to a private entity. Sheridan Fire-Rescue can provide a better quality service than these other companies. Its not about the money, its about Mr. Kinskey's personal agenda to try and break up the fire department and the firefighter's union.

- The city council, and the mayor will get our insurance raised in the city I believe. Also doesn't the ambulance service bill the user ? There is no way to make a fire department profitable, unless they are going to start charging everyone for a fire call.

How would you rate Sheridan Media's coverage and updates during the big snowstorm?

Excellent
Good
Fair
Poor

It might be helpful to have a time on your reporting so when we hear it we can tell if we have already heard that report. Overall I think you and the city did a great job getting information out to the public. Thank You!

The radio coverage was outstanding but it was the access to all the instant road and travel information on Sheridan Media Dot Com that gave us the best and most current information.

You did about as good as you could concidering  the weather conditions!

I just want to say that Sheridan Media has made a bit step up in its professionalism and credibility in the community recently. Please, keep up the good work--thanks to the news staff for making this big leap. I have been a public radio listener but now tune into your station reguarly. Thanks.

What a great service your website and webcams are to the community; especially during this kind of treacherous weather and driving conditions.

Warnings of one of the largest snow storms we've had in years began the day before the storm hit...
Did the schools and officials wait too long to dismiss students and declare a snow day?

Yes
No
Undecided
Other

We live out of town and by the time they dismissed school, the school bus was not able to make it all the way to our home and our children were taken back to their school.

I don't understand why the teachers and students are not released at the same time. I understand that the teachers were required to stay until mid afternoon and that many had problems with daycare closures and were actually unable to get home due to road closures. I don't understand why they would not be allowed to leave also to take care of their children and personal safety.

Children get out too often, this is mainly because of liability concerns, in days gone by school was rarely let out.

When the National Weather Service says we have a bad storm coming and they have a Blizzard Warning in effect, then they shouldn't send the kids to school in the first place.

Do you support the recent ruling de-listing Grizzly Bears from the Endangered Species list?

Yes
No
Undecided

The grizzly bear de-listing is a wonderful success story and now it is time to do the same with the wolves.

Crazy to delist them. With as many shoot shovel and shut up cases there has been the bear will be back on the endangered species list in a few years. Talk about expensive delisting costs...Governor Dave hasn't seen anything yet!

de-listing the grizzly will allow the professionals in the Game and Fish to manage the population of grizzlies.

Yes, I support the de-listing of Grizzly bears. We have wild life biologist who keep a close watch on these things. If they say the Grizzly population has grown to a point that they need to be thined out, then I believe them. They are very good at what they do.

Before 9/11/01 I may not have voted for this. But in this post 9/11 world, we need to know who is coming and going in this country. I believe it's absolutley vital to the security of this country .

I vote NO because in my 70+ years of watching the Federal Government operate,I have to say that if they ever did anything right I never saw it.

If they are really serious about HOMELAND SECURITY they would start beefing up the Northern Border. A national i.d./license is just away for the POLICE STATE to creep into your daily life one more time. Stop BIG BROTHER! Buy a 50 caliber and take national security into your own hands.

Should there be electronic voting in the Wyoming Legislature?

Yes
No
Undecided

It seems like every time we turn on the News these days somebodies computer system is getting hacked. They would really have to prove to me that electronic Voting is safe before I would agree to it. Maybe if it was done on a computer system off line and they compiled the results off line I would go for that.

Not only electronic voting they should also electronicly monitor all legislators. This to ensure they are following the laws they passed to erode our personal freedoms. What is good for the goose is certainly good for the gander!

Who Cares ????

Week of 03-02-2007

How would you grade the recently completed session of the Wyoming Legislature?

A
B
C
D
F

*Okay, here's the thing. They failed to bring out of committee any of the most important bills and failed to pass those they accidentally did get out of committee.. As for the poll. is there a grade worse than an F?  That's what I give them.

I think that some of the bills were just plane stupid and then others were just plane awesome.  My main concern is wolf managment.  The only wolves that are seen by the people in Washington D.C. are on the Animal Planet Channel.  I'd say that that is a pretty safe distance.

How about we wait and see what all comes out of it and how the new laws are accepted or not before we judge how they did.

If the wolf law didn't pass they would have earned an F. This is based on the fact thats many of our personal freedoms have gone down the tubes with this  class of dim-wits. Stick a traking device up there ..... and then let the camera police follow them around the state hiding their open container.

There are too many important items to be considered.  Taking away our personal freedoms such as seat belt compliance is going way beyond what they should be doing.

Should there be a statewide rating system to determine the quality of daycare centers?

Yes
No
Undecided

There should be some kind of system to determine the quality of daycare centers.
Extensive background checks on the owners and employees need to be done to ensure that these kids are in safe hands.

I'm sure that would be a big help to parents of young children to give them the best chance of safe daycare.  It would have to have well written criteria, which could be apanel discussion topic well in advance of any planning.

I think maybe it would be better for a rating system to be local to each community, not "statewide"
it doesn't really help a person in Buffalo or Sheridan to find out how good a daycare center in Laramie or Cheyenne is, or how they compare to a local one.
All that matters to parents is how the daycares in their local community compare to each other, then they can pick the best one of those local to them.
A "statewide" rating system may benefit people who are considering moving to the state but are uinsure of what community they want to live in.

Should the government, city, or state be responsible for helping families pay for childcare?

Yes
No
Undecided

I think that I would rather see tax relief for needed child care rather than actual support from government.  Didn't we use to have tax relief for needed child care.  I think it use to be a deduction.  If I had a young family and had to work as a mom I would like to see some tax relief.

Although there is no doubt that families some times struggle with child care costs, it's not the governments place to subsidize it. What we DON'T need is one more social program to strap on the backs of ALL working people. That  would ultimately mean that everyone is paying for "your child's daycare" No thanks....

Since the daycares nowadays are more of a "pre-school" environment, I feel they should ALL be subsidized and treated as part of our school system.

I am not convinced that it is the government's responsibility to pay for childcare; but I do think if we want education to ever have a fair shot at equal education of all of its students we must have subsidized pre-school programs.  If the children coming into Kindergarten come in with a difference of 2-3 years worth of vocabulary we can't wait until 5 to try to equal that out.  We have to start earlier-perhaps at birth for some families.

Week of 02-09-2007

The State Legislature is considering a law that would authorize cities and towns to install "photo radar" cameras on street corners and issue tickets through the mail. Do you support this legislation?

Yes
No
Undecided

Wyoming is already a POLICE STATE! I feel there is no reason to install cameras to enforce laws unless they plan on cutting the number of cops on patrol now!We have ample policing as it is now and maybe more than is needed. We use to be what other states strived to be, now we are trying to become one of the states we despise.

One should be installed at the intersection of Coffeen and Sheridan Ave. --  the city would make a fortune from all the people who run red lights.

"Photo radar" is a terrific money maker for municipalities AND for the corporations that install and maintain the systems.  In most cases, these companies approach state legislators to support such systems...and why?  Because it can become cash cow for dollar-strapped towns, and because a common arrangement is the company takes a percentage of the fines levied, not to mention profits from the installation and maintenance of the systems themselves.  If you think it's a matter of safety and speed control, follow the money!

Just might slow traffic down and make them obey the law. If you obey the law...no problem...if you are a habitual runner of lights...so be it.

What's next .... robot police ... geez!!!!

You should do the right thing as if you being watched anyway.  Maybe a camera would enhance a persons judgement.

Week of 02-02-2007

Do you support raising Federal Minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25/hr over the course of two years?

Yes
No
Undecided

Moving the minimum wage to $10 per hour would be the best economic development we could have.  People who make less than $21,000/yr are below the poverty line and can not purchase housing.  They would spend all the increase and boost the economy.  It would solve most of the immigration problems, because Americans could make a living doing the jobs the foreigners are being hired for.  One easy to keep government out of our lives while solving the affordable housing issue.

Raising minimum wage will make it too difficult for small businesses to survive, jobs will be lost and our economy will suffer.

Our system of minimum wage is pretty discouraging for a large share of the workers.  Can you imagine trying to live on $5.15, or even $7.25 per hour??? If you can tolerate holding down 2 full time jobs, I suppose it is possible, but not healthy.

I seriously believe this state is in major need of a minimum wage increase.  We are behind as far as many other states are concerned.  Cost of living is rising and a person just can't make a living on the low pay rates!  Lets get with the times now.

It sounds compelling that the minimum wage should be raised, since a family of 4 making minimum wage would be below the poverty level.  In reality, there are not many heads of families making minimum wage.  Minimum wage workers are typically unskilled young workers gaining work experience and skills, so they can go on to get a decent paying job.

In this day and age, do you think either a woman or a minority could be President?

Yes
No
Undecided

If we were in more stable times I think that a minority or a woman could be commander and chief but right now with what is going on in the world, with terrorists wanting us dead, I think we need to stick with a caucasian male for times as turbulent as they are now.

I think our country could vote for a minority, but not Hillary Clinton -- too many people in mid-American don't like her and don't trust her.  Maybe not Obama due to his perceived lack of international experience.  Perhaps, however, New Mexico Gov. Richardson -- he has administrative experence and international experience.
Consider this:  4 years of Geo Bush, 8 years of a Clinton, currently 6 and going-on-eight years of G. Dub Bush -- does America really want another Clinton?  Isn't it time to break this cycle?!?!?

I believe anything could happen with the presidency. I just hope Hillary doesn't go back to the White House.

Support
Oppose
Undecided

Yes, I support it. I never understood why we have to keep messing with the time, lets just leave it alone.

I hate the time changes!

I think Daylight Savings is the most ridiculous idea anyone ever came up with. There is really no point. We have exactly the same amount of sunlight no matter what the clock reads, so daylight savings only messes with your sleeping schedule. If you want an extra hour in the evening, go to work an hour earlier.

NO!!! Just leave it alone. We get along with daylight savings time just fine.

Do you support President Bush's proposal to send over 20,000 more troops to Iraq?

Yes
No
Undecided

Although we didn't go to war in Iraq because of oil. I truely believe that if we don't succeed in Iraq we will end up paying much more for gas in the future. I believe that Iran will try to take over if Iraq doesn't succeed and also try to controll the muslam population in that area witch will cause gas prices to soar. They will be able to charge us what ever they want for a barrel of oil.

I am not an expert on war.  I wish it was over with.  But we are in so deep and that country is so unstable that a pull out or go the route we are taking now is not good.  We need to go in a positive direction and get their government going so they can take care of themselves, if they can and if they have the desire.  They are such a different country and culture than we are.

there was a 'surge' of more troops than are going to baghdad under the new plan last summer - and it didn't work.  this is a civil war, with numerous factions, tribes, groups fighting each other, and the US.

Without a clear plan regarding the utilization of the new troops, sending more troops makes no sense.  It's too little, too late and some of the best young Americans this country has will make the ultimate sacrifice.

Do you think the execution of Saddam Hussein was handled properly?

Yes
No
Undecided

Yes, I think it was handled in the right way. We ( the United States) handed Saddam over to the Iraqi government to punish him as they saw fit.
I don't think the Far left knows what they want. First they want the U.S. to let Iraq handle their own affairs, then when we let them, they complain about that.
The bottom line is this. Saddam commited huge Atrocities and War crimes against his own people, now he has paid the price for those crimes.

I think they should have made him suffer just like those innocents that he had tortured and killed during his reign of terror.  Hanging was too good and too short for such a tyrant.

I would like to see executions in the U.S. handled that way. Saddam was sentence to hanging within 30 days which makes way more sense to me than keeping a death row inmate for 10 or 20 years at a significant cost to taxpayers before you finally get around to executing them.

It was much more humane than any methods he chose to inflict on so many of his own people.  Wasn't it the Iraqi people who got to choose his fate, not the U.S.?

The execution of Saddam Hussein was a very poorly managed event. Granted, the man was sentenced to die for his crimes, but he should have been given due process. Our troops have been fighting over there and dying for a war that is allegedly bringing a democracy and rights to all the people of the nation. Now what has that been for when we see the execution process rushed and the executioners taunting the condemned? It seems to me that nothing has changed. This man knew he was going to die for his crimes, and he was not afraid. He should have been allowed some dignity and respect in that he was a human being paying a debt to humanity. The men in power gave no consideration to the appellant process or to the religious beliefs of the region, by executing him during a time of religious festival. Even ancient Rome gave a special consideration for the faiths of the land before carrying out executions.

Should all Sheridan Restaurants and Bars be Required to be Smoke-Free?

Yes
No
Not Sure

If the owners want to make the business smoke free they can. If people do not want to be around smoke they do not have to enter the business. The owner can put a sign outside of their business saying this is a smoking business. If people don't want to work around smoke they do not have to apply for a job there.  There are many jobs that they can work at that are smoke free.  The business owner should have the right to decide how they want to run there business and smoking is not a crime it is legal. If the government takes away this legal right what will they take away next.

The unfortunate truth is that alcohol and ciggarettes "go together." I Loved the idea that Perkins timeshares their smoking section to allow families to enjoy a smokefree atmosphere on the busiest day of the week. But there are no "families" in the bars, and certainly not in the 24 hr restaurants at 2am when they close down. The majority of the businesses currently allowing smoking would suffer a heavy loss if they converted to nonsmoking just to appease a small group of people(by comparison), who probably don't spend as much time or money in these particular venues in the first place.

Smokers have rights too... Businesses just need to split smokers and non-smokers up better and get better ventilation...

I have no problem with the business owner making the decision to go smokefree, but I do not believe it should be the role of the goverment, whether local or national, to make these decisions.

Has Christmas Become Too Commercial?

Yes, Way Too Commercial.
Yes, A Bit Too Commercial.
The Balance Now Is About Right.
No, It's Not Too Commercial.
Not Sure.

Absolutely too commercial! Seems anymore stores start in just after Labor Day with Christmas. (Sometimes sooner than that.) By the time the 'Real' season is here we are getting tired of it all. That's not how it should be! It isn't correct anymore to call it Christmas, even tho it is Christ's birth we should be celebrating.
We have lost sight of the reason we even have this holiday. It should be more than parties and presents.

Over the years, I think people have forgotten the true meaning of Christmas and the love that goes with it. Kids don't know the true meaning, all they know is I-pod, X-box and other items they WANT for Christmas. Bring back the true meaning. Thanks.

It also depends how we handle christmas as families.  We have the control so it isn't so commercial.

When the stores start putting Christmas decorations out before Halloween I really think that is too commercial.  Let's do one holdiay at a time. And quit going into debt to buy things people don't need or want.

I'm all for giving gifts to those who mean the most to you. However, it seems that more and more gifts have to be lavish and expensive to be appreciated. I believe everyone would be happier if there was less commercialism and more celebration of family.

Should the Sheridan County Commissioners approve a Hydrochloric Acid Transfer Station on Fort Road?

Yes
No
Not Sure
Other

My family and I are victims of environmental poisoning.  Hydrochloric Acid was just one of the chemicals that we were exposed to.  We moved to Wyoming as it is one of the "cleaner" states.  This stuff WILL burn mucus membranes. This is very dangerous stuff.  This is not only to clean the CBM water to put back into the rivers....it burns holes into rock to obtain more oil.  I firmly believe that this is their main goal.  This is risking Sheridan area residents lives for the almighty dollar.

these chemicals are already going through the town, adding this transfer station would only add to the safety of their transportation

There is no good reason or enough money to bring an acid plant into Sheridan. As a life long resident there is no reason to tarnish this community with such industrial danger. We need clean enviromenatly safe jobs not jobs that could potentally wipe out Sheridan's low elevations residents.PS how does Sheridan get ready for a Pandemic???? Allow the acid compamy to relocate here!

This may be a good idea but in the wrong location.  A better location would be in a less populated area.  The proximity to the VA Hospital is risk not worth taking.

I believe that a Hydrochloric Acid Transfer Station would bennifit the community by creating a few more high paying jobs. As far as the hazardous side of the chemical goes, there are already large volumes of hazardous materials that pass through this town daily. Every day gasoline deivery trucks transfer highly flammable materials all across town. Tranfering this acid would most likely be less hazardous than transfering gasoline. RSH

As a resident that lives down near Main St, how do they propose to protect us from a potential hazardous spill? Also the City and the Chamber of Commerce don't pay much attention to the Northern part of town now as it is - this to me just makes that end of town even less appealing.

In this season of Thanksgiving, we are curious:

In America, are we doing enough to take care of the homeless and the hungry?

Yes; we are doing enough.
No; we are not.
Not Sure

If you believe we do need to do more, should that additonal assistance be:

Largely through government efforts.
A combination of government, private & charitable efforts.
Mostly via private & charitable efforts.
Not Sure.

it is sad when illegals can come into this country, get free shelter, free medical care and free food; our veterans are sleeping on the streets in many big cities

We seem to be more worried about helping other countries than helping our own.
When was the last time you seen a commercial on TV that said: give to the poor "American Children". They are always asking for help in other countries while the poor or people who live just over the poverty line in America are left to fend for themselves.
I can think of 3 celeberties right off the bat that just adopted children from another country, when they could have helped an American child who needed help.

Free food should only be for those who work for it. I had to work for my food why should everbody else not have to do the same????

The government has done contributed to the homeless problem by limiting the amount of help for the mentally ill.  At the same time churches are taking in millions of dollars that simply go back into making the church look pretty but do not serve the needy.

When you fly, do you fly out of Sheridan...

Always
Sometimes
Never

If you DON"T fly out of Sheridan, what's the principal reason you don't?

Cost
Convenience
Type of Aircraft

My flights to and from Seridan (originating at DFW) now include stops in Denver and Billings.  I don't mind these stops but the lay-over in Billings is too long.  I hope, in the near future, we can have more choice of Big Sky or Frontier flights from Sheridan to DFW that don't include a long lay-over in Billings.

There have been times that it is more convenient to fly in and out of Sheridan but as the aircraft is small and I'm a fairly large person...I refuse to get on that little plane!

When flying we look to cost, convenience, and connections.  Altho, I'm not a big fan of the "flying-culvert".  Those little planes aren't maintained very well, at least the interiors.  Presumably, the engines, etc., are well-maintained....
.
I will not put up with the trouble it takes to fly commercial.

Would it be better for Wyoming to use part of its State Surplus for:

Across-The-Board Property Tax Cuts
Additional Monies To Cities & Counties For Local Infrastructure
Affordable Housing
Additions To Existing Mineral Trust Funds
Other or Not Sure

I think it should be BOTH "Additional monies....local infrastructure"  AND "Affordable Housing".
We need both right here in Sheridan!!

Tax cuts. I grew up in the city where they ( the government) built affordable housing projects. It didn't take long fo those places to be over run with drug dealers and thugs. If the government does build affordable housing, they should have a rule when renting to anyone. If your arrested for doing or selling drugs, your out on the street.Period and no exceptions.

Should provide each 2003 Wyoming resident, (who remains/remaimed a Wyoming resident throughout 2004, 2005 and 2006), as documented by the claimant's filed IRS Form 1040, a $5000.00 payment.

I thought that we got that money beause of the impact it causes. So lets use it to pay for the infastructures.

Week of 10-27-2006

It's that time of the year - Halloween. We think about ghosts and goblins ... and superstitions. How superstitious are you? Take our survey...

I am not, in the least superstitious.  But, I know lots of the old sayings & superstitions.  They are fun to use in conversation or for entertainment.

In regards to the last question, there's nothing "superstitious" about 666 - it's the mark of the beast. As a Christian, I would not want that as my license plate nor would I want it as my address. Halloween is for dressing up and getting candy when you're a child. Lets just leave it at that. Leave out all the pagan rituals.

: I always have the same divot fixer and hat on before I start my round. After the first couple of holes and the slice hook sets in again, my superstitions vanish like the dream of shooting par!

Week of 10-20-2006

Most Nations have agreed to rules that prohibit torturing prisoners. Do you support these measures??

Yes
No
Not Sure

How can any Christian state that torture is OK under ANY circumstances?  Information  from people who have been tortured is unreliable, and the military, etc., knows this.  So what is the point of even trying to torture someone?  It's obscene.

Just be a teacher and you get totured everyday! Without justification

Physical torture is never okay.  I have no problem with using "truth drugs" or humiliation.  But, physical torture (I'm sure most of us can't even come up with some of the things that they might do to them) is stooping to the lowest level & is NOT okay.

I believe that in war times when acts of war and aggression have been committed against the U.S then we have the right as well as the duty to extract information by whatever means needed to ensure that our citizens and military  are kept as safe as possible. I believe terrorists have made a choice and do not deserve "human rights"

If they are a threat to us then they should be tortured. They are tourturing our troops when they get caught, turn about is fairplay.

Torture is justified any time with terroists

It does not seem that torture has been defined.  To some, isolation, or simply with-holding a meal may mean torture to them.

Torture has been shown to strengthen resolve, not weaken it. Interrogators need to crack their suspects psychologically, like professional investigators. Not physically, like barbarians. Does anyone remember the ratio of dead to reformed in the Spanish Inquisition?

Week of 10-13-2006

Should the Grey Wolf lose its Endangered Species Status in areas not contiguous to Yellowstone National Park.?

Yes
No
Not Sure

Ranchers and farmers shouldn't have to worry about their livestock. Wolves are dangerous animals and were hunted for a reason. They should have never been reintroduced.

Elk and Moose numbers are down drastically and regardless of what the Feds say this is not due to a drought.  In addition ranchers are losing lifestock and rural land owners are having their pets killed.  The wolf does NOT belong outside of the park.  "SHOOT, SHOVEL, AND SHUTUP" will become the rule of the land if something is not done soon.

It's time to delist. Wolfs have reproduced like rats. They are spreading at a alarming rate. They do need controlled. The population of elk and moose have already shown us that..... The people who say that it hasn't must live in a bubble.

The grey wolf never should have been listed as endangered in the first place. This is a clasic example of how the ESA can be used to push a hidden agenda. If the Fish and Wildlife Agency had any credibility before it is gone now.

What, In Your Opinion, Is The #1 Cause Of Violence Among Youth? (Pick One)

Music
Dress
Poor Parenting
Violence On TV / Video Games / On-Line
Peer Pressure
Genetics
Lack Of Consequences
Other
Not Sure

I think alot of it stems from cliques and the stigmas of being "different". With that being said, I also believe that nobody does anything to diffuse situations until they get out of hand and then everyone wonders why school shootings happen.

It's hard to pick one because I believe there are many factors that lead to youth violence. I believe a lot has to do with parenting. Parents should control how much violence youth see on TV, in video games, and in music. It can't be controlled completely, but if parents are involved with their childrens' lives they can influence the amount of violence the children are exposed to.

We have a serious problem here.  We have poor parenting and the break down of the family.  And no the government can't fix it.

Most all forms of entertainment these days has gruesome fighting or violence.  How do we as parents try and explain how you should really act when in fact we are at war and even the news shows all the horror. We don't have a softer side anymore so we are a product of our environment.

We asked this question a year ago... Has your opinion changed?

Should The Sheridan County Commission Be Expanded From The Current 3 Commissioners To 5?

Yes
No
Not Sure

NONE

Should the U.S. bring its Troops home as soon as possible or wait until things stabilize in Iraq?

Bring Them Home ASAP
Wait Until Things Stabilize
Not Sure

If we don't stop it now, it will bring more terrorist activity to our shores.  Justlike a bully being allowed to beat up kids in school, for the way they dress. It's not what's on the outside, but what's on the inside. We need to continue to try to stop bullies and their so called friends and that's just what these terrorists are.

There is no substitute for victory, no matter how long it takes! Cutting and running would not only disgrace us internationally- no one could trust us to keep our word- it will put our home territory at greater risk. Terrorists tied up in the Middle East will follow us here.

We are fighting a war that is never going to end.  It is time to bring our men and women home. I have a son over there and he has told me that nothing is going to change the Iraq people. We may be trying to do things to better their lives, but it will always be the same, they don't want us there.

Give iraq tools, machinery, food, water, medical supplies, building materials and get out. They do not want their country occupied any more.I am sure we would fight any way we could,if our country was to be occupied.

How long would we be willing to wait for things to stablize? 5 years? 20 years a 100 years? For heavens sake were still have troops in Korea, they haven't totally stablized yet! They are still a great concern to the world. So I think we need to have a plan - that is something we have needed from the onset of this war. We don't change the rules on torture to fit our needs unless we are willing to have our soldiers tortured in the same way. That is NOT ACCEPTABLE! We need to show the Iraqi people we are not there forever and they can take their own country back.

This War against the terrorists will not end anytime soon. The terrorists want to kill Americans, and they will not stop. We need to keep being aggressive.

Many countries have been capitulating to and walking softly around the Islamist terrorists, and yet they continue to have terrorist attacks.  The USA has taken a firm stand that has weakend them.  Should we pull out now, we will be seen as weak and the terrorists will believe they are free to brutalize the world in the name of their religion.

How Serious Is Global Warming?

Very Serious
Somewhat
Not Very
Not At All
Not Sure

It may be serious, but I believe it represents natural cycling of earth conditions. The better question may be does one believe global warming is cause by (and can be changed by) man's intervention.

Global warning propontents should remember that at one time this entire area was underwater and a tropical zone after that.  Global warning is not a problem, but the earth it self.  Recently Mars was discovered to have melting ice caps also.  Is man at fault??

Come january we'll be begging for some warming.

How serious are chest pains? They are ez to ignore until an artery blows out your chest. Think back 20-30 years ago! Were the sun's rays as intense as they are now? Didn't it use to rain every afternoon?Didn't we have winter? Spring Floods? Now we have a prolonged drought and major problems that seem alot like that little chest pain.

Should The Cost Of A School Lunch Be Subsidized Or Self-Supporting?

Subsidized
Self-Supporting
Not Sure

*Why is school district number two making parents pay so much for lunches when big horn only pays $1.75 and yes i know that gillette is gillette but they only pay $1.75 also!!!  So why are we getting the blunt end of the stick that is chopping apart our checkbooks???  Not all parents qualify for free or reduced lunches but struggle to pay for their children to eat at school personally i feel that the prices should be dropped or paid buy the school district.....or something of that effect!

*With the cost of living in Sheridan, I don't think that the income limits for free/reduced lunches are fair. I have 2 children in school, which puts my school lunch bill at $100 a month. We cannot afford that even though we are well above the income limits for reduced lunches. I have decided to send my children with a packed lunch every day for that reason.

*i believe too many people today expect everybody else to help pay for their children. i see many single mothers with multiple children from multiple fathers, who expect society to pay for a lot more than just their childrens food. Subsidized school lunches is just a tinny drop in a huge trough.

*Something has to be done for the people stuck in the gray areas. Make too much to received help, yet don't make enough to afford the $900 a year for school lunches if they have two children in school. Something has to give somewhere, I'm sick and tired of all the high prices for everything!

Are You Currently In Favor Of Extending The Optional One-Cent Sales Tax This November?

Yes
No
Not Sure

*There are enough taxes without the extra one-cent. Property taxes, especially, increase dramatically every year. I think there should be enough money to go around without adding an extra tax.

*Yes. Yes. Yes.  That 1% tax has made many needed projects affordable & as painless as possible.  Everyone who spends money helps us pay.

*No More Taxes, American's pay enough taxes as it is. Even 1 cent more is to much. Our Fed.Government, State Government and City Government should learn how to use the money taxpayers give them visely and not spend it foolishly. "Taxation with Representation" hasn't worked out so great either. Maybe we should be thinking about another Boston tea party instead of another "1 cent tax".

*This is a fair tax, everyone pays including visitors and industry.  It's much needed revenues for the social services and programs that make Sheridan County a wonderful place to live.

How do you feel about on-line (internet) gambling?

I'm against it.
I'm in favor of it.
I'm not sure / No opinion

*You will usually lose. There are so many ways to cheat in online gambling. A group on the phone telling one another thier cards was the main way. Even the messingers works like Yahoo or MSN . All free. Now they have screen scanners that actually see your poker cards. Pretty hard to win when most of the players can see your whole cards. ^_^. MSNBC proved poker bots always win in a special years ago. They set the bot at 27 tables and the next day all 27 tables they won at. Poker online also pulls alot of money out of our state to off shore businesses. I also hate to see the pe0ple get cheated.

*it's free country instead of protecting us against ourselves we need more personal responsibilty in the united states. people  make their own choices and must live with that i'm not for taking care of idiots who screw their own lives up in other words SINK OR SWIM.

*Too many people don't have the smarts or will-power to know when to quit. If they have a family, this can be disastrous.

*Even though I'm against it, I don't think much control can be placed on internet activities.

What is your favorite statue currently on display in Sheridan?

The Bozeman Scout by Barry Eisenach
Summit CEOs by J.C. Dye
Sandhill Crane by Bunny Connell
Circle of Friends by K.E. Crain
Flower Dancing in the Wind by Jerry McKellar
The Tin Man by Sam Street
Bella and the Bug by Louise Peterson
Bird Woman by R.V. Greeves
The Boss, By Dellores B. Shelledy
One that is not listed - Tell us by submitting your answer in the box below after voting.

*I really liked great minds are alike & the scout.  I think the western art is more appropriate in downtown Sheridan, all of the sculptures are well done!

*I like "Whoa, What's This" the best.

*I like Midnight Snack -the raccoon on Grinnell, and the little pony on Main St. Definitely NOT the Tin Man

*I love the Farmer by Sandfords. He reminds me of my grandfather who farmed in South Dakota.

Is too much being made out of the anti-semitic slurs Mel Gibson made during his traffic stop?

Yes
No
No Opinion

*An Internet poll sponsored by NewsMax.com reveals that more than two-thirds of Web voters do not believe Mel Gibson is anti-Semitic
And a huge majority - 79 percent - accept the actor's apology.

* more should be made about him driving drunk; he could have killed someone!!

* Alright already with this, now if it was someone else that this happened to and I do believe it has already, it would not be on all the news channels and in the press. Come off it already, drop it. It happen and it's over, he applogized for it. Thanks.

*Absolutely! This is America and it deosn't matter if he was being anti-semitic, or if it was the conflict in Lebanon that had upset him, or if he was just plastered, or if it was a combination of all the above. Everyone has the right to their own oppinion, whether it be about government, politics, sexual preference, religion or race. People just need to let it go.

Do you believe human activity is responsible for climate change?

Yes
No
Not Sure

* I believe that if the results of the core samples that sceintists do would be released, we would find that these weather/climate cycles are normal.

* If the warming is human caused it is because of the Environmentalist destroying our National Forrest by not allowing any cultivation. Heavy timber stands do not allow the forest to build up a snowpack. No feed for wild life grows there, and our springs and streams are drying up.Old growth trees put out only carbon dioxide, combine that with what they produce when they burn and that puts more carbon dioxide in the air each year than all the other man made activities since the begining of time.

* Climatology spans hundreds of thousand of years.  The evidence that people are changing the climate simply does not date back far enough to suggest that it is occuring.  Historically, the climate has had its ups and downs over hundreds of years, and this most recent change is no different.

* We are covering more ground with houses and cement, so there has to be some effects to our climate from just that.  Then add the gas engines and we have really changed things.

* : There is not sufficient scientific record available to discount a cyclical history of temp change.  Beside, forest fires release more harmful things into the air than humans and we actually have less fire than before humans began containing them.  So how can what we do be more harmful than forrest fires.

How would you rate this year's Wyo Rodeo Events?

The Best
Great
Average
Poor
Didn't participate in any activities.

* I was disappointed by people at the parade. Especially the Crow Nation. When they reached Grinnell and Gould they all pulled out of the parade and started their pow-wow without waiting for the parade to end. It made watching the rest of the parade much less enjoyable for those of us on Gould. I thought it was very rude of them not to respect the rest of the parade participants. Also, the parade was very political this year. I realize that it is an election year, but those floats aren't very exciting.

* This rodeo season was just as great as they have been in the past. However, I spoke with many tourists who could not believe Sheridan did not provide a "big name" even such as a concert. The bands were great downtown, but I am afraid I agree with those tourists I spoke with. With all the hype we give rodeo week, I think in the years to come there should be some bigger, higher rated and well known performances downtown. This is the time when almost EVERYONE comes back to Sheridan after they have moved away, and I think we should honor that with some high quality activites.

* I would not even think about entering the city limits of Sheridan at a time when all the cops have blood in thier eyes.. When a corupted system like we have in Sheridan lets people like John Brackley  make up the law as he sees fit then this community is in big trouble....

* the million dollar grand stands at the fairgrounds should be demolished. we left the rodeo after 20 min becuase you cant see a damn thing. everyone around us was complaining also. what an engineering disaster. dont believe i will ever go to another event there until something is done. i wonder if the idiots who designed this grand stand ever sat in the.

* It was a great rodeo, but way too many teenagers were present after the rodeo. the main concern is all the alcohol that was there, all the law enforcment was good, but no whay could they watch all the crowds, should be age limit after a certain time

* Rodeo is getting too commercial.  I don't mind recognizing the corporate sponsors at the beginning, or even at the end, but to stop the rodeo right in the middle to run them through again is too much.

* love to listen to the parade and everything involved with it on the radio.  I miss the heat and the crowds; after all i have been seeing it most of my life and that is quite a few parades.  From all comments I've heard the rodeo, street dance , etc.  was very good

Would you be in favor of Las Vegas style gambling in Wyoming?

Yes
No
Not Sure

* I oppose the idea for several reasons. 1-I don't gamble so it wouldn't do me any good. 2-If I wanted the Vegas atmosphere, I would move to Vegas. I like Wyoming the way it is, why try to attract a large gambling/drinking crowd? 3-We have beautiful scenery and great outdoor options. If we're trying to increase tourism, why not market what we already have? Bring people in to see and enjoy Wyoming, not to gamble.

* I favor Las Vegas style gambling in WY. only if the Stase of WY. ownes the Casino. Why not let each school district have one if they want? If WY. dosen't wake up we will have and Indian Casino here in Sheridan. Not later but sooner.

* NO NO NO.  I've lived in states that it is legal and there is nothing but heartbreak and broken promises from the state

* As much as I love to gamble I still vote against it everytime. Why? I would be there every night! Deadwood is only 3 hours away, Hardin is 45 minutes. The only thing to remember on this issue is,,,,,BET THE MAX!

* Nevada Liquor Laws Too.

* I think Wyoming is missing the boat on this issue, lots of states have extra monies for roads and schools with the income they make off of this.  And I have been to Billings or Deadwood many times and always run into someone from Sheridan, even Vegas , i have seen Sheridan county plates. I think it would also make us more appealing to tourist.

* wyoming has enough process addictions to deal with now as well as drug addictions to deal with whos going to pay for the recovering gambler of the state

* We came to Wyoming in 1943 and gambling was operating then and on into the early 1950's.  It provided employment for some, recreation for some and income for others. All in all, it was not a problem then and I doubt if it would be now.  It would, of course, require appropriate regulation, but we could learn from Nevada.  If some one wants to gamble, they will, and surely some will abuse it, but what activity is not abused to some extent?  Protecting morality is a lousy argument against gambling.

* The last thing Wyoming needs is the drugs, poverty, gangs, corruption, and other problems tied to gambling.  If someone wants to gamble, they can go to Las Vegas.

Do we need a constitutional amendment to ban flag burning?

Yes
No
Not Sure

* I DO NOT approve of flag burning but i do approve of peoples rights. Isn't this the first amendment that restricts people's rights? I thought amendments were for restricting goverment.

* We have a amendment to protect our national symbol (Eagel) why not one to protet our flag.

* A constitutional amendment to ban flag burning! How about just a good old fashioned a** kickin!

* Who cares?  It's just fabric made in China.

Do you support Stem Cell Research?

Yes
No
Not Sure

* recent polls show how many "christians" there are in america approving of this is totally against GODS' word than again maybe most don't have a clue about him anyway and rely on some one verse charlie to tell them about what religion is about how wrong and contradictory to his written word

* Yes, as long as it is ADULT stem cells. All advances in stem cell cures have come from adult stem cells, NOT ONE advance has come from embreo's. If they are going to use it as an excuse for abortion as they have been then it is all wrong.

* It is just another attempt by the right to lifers to try and make everyone think the way they do about unfeeling cells that have no thought processes.  Show me one right to lifer that has an IQ over 75 or finished the third grade and I will listen to what they have to say.

* I DON'T SUPPORT JAIL CELL RESEARCH EITHER, I THINK IT'S A BIG WASTE OF $$$$

Will high gas prices influence the choice of your next vehicle?

Yes
No
Not Sure

* Since we have a Vice President and other politicians in the gas and oil business it's no wonder the price of gas is increasing. There's no reason for these ridiculously high prices at the pump except for greed. Why do European countries have vehicles that get much better mileage (like diesels that get 50mpg) and we cannot get them here? Because the oil and gas companies wouldn't be selling as much that's why. The greedy rats!

* i'm stuck in the 80's so my next car as well as my last 5 cars have been 87-89 volkswagen jetta's. I would like to find a rabbit convertable or vw truck! They are great on gas, cheap to insure, and they out drive any 4 wheel drive on snow covered roads.Salute to the people's car!

* I drive a Buick Regal that gets about 30mpg. Mu husband needs a 4x4 pickup for his everyday work.  So, no, we won't change our vehicles readily.  :-)

* I'm rich and just don't care.

* Yes... I'm planning on buying a gasoline tanker truck

* If you can't afford to drive, don't

* Who can afford to get a nother vehicle? Or even a different one everything is to exspensive including cars!!!

Do you support a constitutional amendment to ban Gay marriage?

Yes
No
Not Sure

* I think people have right to choose a partner for life, but marriage must be between man and women.

* The Constitution is sacred and has only ever been amended to grant people rights ie abolish slavery, women the right to vote, civil rights, it has never been amended to take rights away. This is dangerous territory.

* It's time to respect the sanctity of marriage and the abomination of gay relationships.

* the only threat to marriage is people's own insecurity with their own marriage

* We've never put discrimination in the constitution, let's not start now

* Marriage has long been held a covenant between a man and a woman and should remain. Gays should be able to have the legal rights usually associated with marriage through a civil union and approach it from this angle

* This kind of issue should be left to the States and not made a part of the Constitution.  I'm a divorce lawyer and have seen first hand how people abuse the marriage contract.  And then they end up fighting over the Tupperware.  On the other hand, my gay uncles have been together for 45 years without getting married.  Which is "better" -- a two year marriage between a man and a woman or a 45 year relationship?

* Why not allow two people that love each other to be committed to one another.  Since heterosexual couples have such a great history preserving the sanctity of marriage (50% failure??) what is exactly being protected?  Maybe the political leaders (including Wyomings own representatives) of our country should be more concerned with the death of American soldiers than limiting the freedoms of those at home.  Aren't the soldiers fighting for our freedom?  Then I say let Americans have there freedom to love who they wish and have an attempt at a happy life  within a legally binding committed realtionship.  President Bush should worry about the problems he has created around the world (ie - Iraq)insteading of spending his time in the bedroom of all Americans. I say let same sex couples experience the rights other comitted American couples experience - call what you want, but all Americans should be able to exprience the same freedoms.

How would you rate the performance of the Sheridan Department of Family Services (DFS)?

Excellent
Good
Fair
Poor

* How can an office that tries to prosecute 8 year olds for rape be considered well run?

* The staff have been great, I just think people don't realize all the good things they do, instead everyone wants to look for the negative, even when they don't know all the facts.

* DFS spends more time investigating people that have done nothing wrong than investigating people that abuse their children.

* Workers have been helpful and don't make people feel bad about needing help.

* Here is my personal experince with them. I went in to get a little help with maybe food stamps, because I was going to college full time and was trying to work part time job while taking care of a friends child. They told me if I quit my job and going to colelge they would provide for me and the child. I think that is stupid to be telling people that. I was upset with them and told them they needed to get their facts straight. They are there to help people out
