Patricia A. Bacon, 77, of Sheridan, passed away at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County on June 25, 2008. Patricia was born on December 27, 1930 in Sheridan to William and Maytie Hughes. She graduated from Sheridan High School. Patricia married Loren "Porky" Bacon in Sheridan. She enjoyed painting, crafts, and cooking. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Loren "Porky" Bacon; her son, Robert Affeldt; her daughter, Vicki Jean Hall; her brother, William "Bill" Hughes; and her sister, Katherine Owens. She is survived by her son, Scott Affeldt of Camarillo, CA; her six grandchildren; her brother, Eugene Hughes of Albuquerque, NM. Browning, RN, 81, formerly of Story, WY, died Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Community Medical Center, Toms River, NJ. Eileen was born in Atlantic City, NJ, and lived in Pennsauken, NJ and Story, WY before moving to Whiting, NJ in 2002. She retired in 1974 as a Registered Nurse from Cooper Medical Center, Camden, NJ. She was a graduate of the Cooper Hospital of Nursing and served in the Cadet Nursing Corps in World War II. She was also a volunteer for 30 years for the Red Cross of NJ and was an EMT volunteer on the rescue squad in Wyoming. She was very active in the Story community and helped fund the Story/Banner ambulance service. She helped respond to the Ladore explosion. Eileen was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Dr. William J. Browning, in 2001. Mrs. Browning and her husband were instrumental in starting the Hospice of The Big Horns at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, W. Lawrence and Terri Browning of Forked River, NJ, her daughter and son-in-law, Lyn and Paul Dubeck, of Bala-Cynwyd, PA; her brother, John McGoldrick and his wife Patti of Starr, ID; and her three grandchildren, Kristoffer Browning, Lauren Dubeck, and Kelly Browning. Memorial services will be held at Kane Funeral Home on June 22, 2008 at 11:00 am with Reverend Morris Campbell officiating. Interment of cremains will follow in the Sheridan Elks Cemetery. Peggy A. Buckley, 67, of Sheridan, passed away on June 12, 2008 at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Peggy was born on April 29, 1941to Hardy and Maxine MacCatherine in Big Timber, MT. She was a high school graduate of Sheridan High School in 1959. Peggy was self employed as a housekeeper for eleven years, worked as vet assistant for three years, and was a receptionist/secretary for twenty-two years until she retired in 1992. She married Ted Buckley on December 23, 1961. Peggy enjoyed reading, gardening, and fishing. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Ted. Remaining family members are her daughters, Shannon (Hovey) Hugs and Kelley (Jason) Buckley; her grandchildren, Jodi (Ryan) Lee, Heather Blakeman, Cheyenne Fisher, Austin, Caleb, & Colter England; her two great-grandchildren, Hartley Jo Barnett and Tyler James Lee; and one on the way; her brother, Richard MacCatherine of Roundup, MT; and her sister, Patricia Cowgill of Guthrie, OK. She was born March 28, 1920 to George and Mable Demple. Jeanne married James B. Clark on August 26, 1945, in St. Augustine Cathedral in Tucson, Arizona. They had known each other since age five where they attended Holy Name School and later, Sheridan High School. She also attended St. Mary’s College in Leavenworth, Kansas. Her grandfather, Peter Demple, was a real estate investor and partner in the Sheridan Brewery. He arrived in Sheridan in 1884. Jeanne worked for MDU for a brief period and then as a full-time housewife. They moved to Casper and then Denver where Jim re-enlisted with the Air Force. The family spent three years in Germany. Jim and Jeanne retired in Sheridan after his 30 years in the Air Force. Jeanne is survived by her husband and three children: Jane, married to Phil Huckins; Jon, married to Carol of Sheridan, and JoAnne Heron and partner Fayette Krause of Port Townsend, WA and brother Robert E. Demple and wife Eleanor, of Sheridan. The Clarks have five grandchildren: Chris of Sheridan and Cassandra of Colorado Springs, CO; Chris Popham of Palmer, Alaska; and Earline Huckins and David Huckins of Spokane; and five great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her brother George Jr., who died in World War II. A Christian Wake Service will be held at Kane Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 7:00 pm. Davis, 92, of Sheridan, WY, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at her residence. Mrs. Davis was born September 14, 1915 on a farm near Madison, SD to Albert Dunning and Lillie Electa (Messner) Parker. She grew up and attended schools in Madison, graduating from Madison High School in 1934. Lyla then attended Colorado State College in Ft. Collins, CO, graduating in 1938. Lyla married Lyle T. Davis in Kimball, NB June 21, 1936. The Davis’s came to Sheridan, WY 1946 where they started the Davis Music Store on South Main which they owned and operated until their retirement in 1969. Mrs. Davis was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sheridan, Naomi Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star where she was Worthy Matron in 1959, Daughters of the Nile, Queen in 1960, and Nobel Grand of the Rebekah’s Lodge in 1950. Lyla’s primary interest was her husband, the music store, and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle October 29, 1992. Mrs. Davis is survived by one son, Lyle P. “Parke” Davis, of Sheridan, WY; and two granddaughters, Erika Davis, of Kennewick, WA, and Brenda Myers, of Centennial, CO. Box 201, Sheridan, WY 82801 Jerome "Jerry" DeFord, 77, of Banner, passed away on June 10, 2008, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Jerry was born on January 21, 1931 to George and Sara DeFord in St. Ignatius, MT. At age eleven Jerry went to Burns, OR to live with Jim Poteet, an excellent rancher and stockman. Jim greatly influenced Jerry’s life. Jim always sent Jerry home (to Ridgefield, WA) to attend school, but summers were spent at the Bell A Ranch at Burns. Jerry did attend Burns High School his senior year and graduated from there. He married Honey Stevick Maller in Riverton, WY on October 12, 1979. In 1981 Jerry and Honey started ranching on their own, primarily in Weston and Niobara counties. Jerry started team roping and enjoyed participating in local ropings and he joined the "Old Timers Rodeo Association". Jerry loved good quality cattle, good horses, and good cow dogs. He believed in good conservation of the land and has received several stewardship awards for good land management. Jerry managed several large ranches, the last one being at Dubois, WY for the Walt Disney family. In 2007, Jerry and Honey moved from their Cheyenne River home of twelve years, due to the sale of the ranch, to the Wuthier Ranch on Piney Creek between Sheridan and Buffalo. The wide open spaces were Jerry’s church. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David DeFord in 1994; brothers, George DeFord and Jim DeFord; and sister, Betty DeFord Jedouin. He is survived by his wife, Honey of Banner; his children, Henry DeFord (Cathy) of Helena, MT, Steve Wuthier (Teri) of Buffalo, WY, and daughter-in-law, Sally C. DeFord of John Day, OR; his siblings, Daniel DeFord (Judy) of CA, Bruce DeFord (Carol) of WA, Mahlon DeFord (Laura) of WA, and Les DeFord (Darlene) of OR; his four grandchildren, Ginger DeFord Gertis (Sherman) of John Day, OR, Dwight DeFord (Stacey) of John Day, OR, Jerry "JD" DeFord (Jesse) of Livingston, MT, and Bridget DeFord Ward (Corby) of Big Timber, MT; and eleven great-grandchildren. Frances L. "Pat " Deutsch, 66 of Sheridan passed away at Sheridan Manor on Thursday, June 5, 2008. Pat was born in Upton, Wyoming to Helen (Owings) and Raymond Ellis on April 19, 1942. She was raised and attended schools in Sheridan, graduating from Sheridan High School in 1959. Pat met and later married Christof R. Deutsch in Sheridan on May 29, 1960. They raised three children together. Pat was a member of Acita win sorority, Immanuel Lutheran Church, volunteered for the Salvation Army, was a scout leader with the Girl Scouts of America.Pat enjoyed quilting, sewing , making teddy bears for charity and raffles and collected Coke-Cola memorabilia. Preceding Pat in death are her parents and one son Christof Deutsch. She is survived by her husband, Christof of Sheridan; two daughters, Sarah Hannawi of Dubai, UAE and Kathryn Deutsch of Riverton, Wyoming; one sister, Helen R. Williams of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and three granddaughters, Maysa, Sarah and Hannah Hannawi all of Dubai, UAE. Private family memorial services for Pat will be held at a later date. Ruth Frances Floretta, 89, of Sheridan, Wyoming, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother died peacefully on June 7, 2008 at her residence. She will be missed by her family and friends. Ruth was born to Frank and Lillian Humes on November 19, 1918 in Custer County, Nebraska and was raised by her uncle and aunt, Bert and Ethel Hutt in Newcastle, Wyoming. Ruth went to Chillicothe College in Missouri where she graduated in 1939. Ruth moved to Sheridan in 1940 and met her lifelong love Miles Floretta when they were both working for Hammer's Inc. Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family and doing her handicrafts and gardening. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Miles of Sheridan; her children, Karen Foutch of Carlton, WA, Mark Floretta of Florissant, MO, Paul Floretta of Ranchester, WY, David Floretta of Port Susan, WA; her nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Franklin Humes of Newcastle, WY, Jack Wilson of Mesquite, TX, Glen Hutt of Newcastle, WY and Margaret Shreve of Bullhead City, AZ; and many close friends, in particular the Zezas and McCallister families. Bernice Adsit Rood Gehrett, age 58, died Saturday, June 7, 2008, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County, WY. Bernice was born March 9, 1950, in Sheridan, WY to Jack & Viola (Holtry) Adsit. Bernice grew up in the Sheridan area and graduated from Big Horn High School. After high school, she attended Billings Business College. She married Albert Rood on December 17, 1969. They later divorced. In the 1970’s, being a single mom and having a keen sense of Bookkeeping, she worked very diligently and her efforts were greatly appreciated at many businesses from Buffalo to Casper. On April 21, 1990, she married Donald Gehrett. Don died of cancer in 2004. Bernice loved to read, listen to music and play the piano. Her greatest enjoyment was horse back riding and being outdoors in her beloved Big Horn Mountains. Bernice was preceded in death by a sister Jeanette and two brothers Raymond and Darrel. Godley passed away on June 1, 2008 at Westview Healthcare Center in Sheridan, Wyoming. Martha was born on March 12, 1924 in Bessemer City, North Carolina to Daniel P and Sarah Elizabeth Froneberger. She attended secretarial/bookkeeping school in Charlotte, NC where she went to work for Godley Auction Company and met Les. They were married on June 10, 1945 and moved to Elizabeth, CO. Martha was a bookkeeper, housewife, devoted mother and grandmother. After retiring, Martha and Les spent their winters at Sun Life in Mesa, AZ. They moved to Sheridan, Wyoming in 1997. Martha was preceded in death by her husband Les. Violet Magdelena (Vi) Helvik, longtime Sheridan resident, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Vi was born on August 17, 1930, in Turtle lake, North Dakota to Olga (Schladler) and Gottfried Schock. She attended elementary school and graduated from high school in Turtle lake, and then attended Minot State College and taught school at Hazen, North Dakota. Vi married Charles (Chuck) Helvik on June 17, 1950 in Underwood, North Dakota, and moved to Beulah, North Dakota, and moved to Sheridan, Wyoming in 1953 where Chuck was employed with MDU until his retirement. Vi was employed at Quick Printing for 25 years before retiring. Vi was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck; her son, Mark; and her brothers Albert and Walter. She is survived by her son Tim and wife Cinda, and Pat and his wife Amy; grandchildren Nathan, Adam, and Kaitlyn Helvik, all of Buffalo, Wyoming. Mr. Henriksen was born January 20, 1935 in Sheridan, Wyoming to Victor and Mabel (Paulson) Henriksen. He grew up and attended Sheridan schools and graduated from Sheridan High School. Richard was a radio technician in communications. He served in the U. S. Air Force from October 19, 1953 to July 13, 1957. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Henriksen is survived by one aunt, Joyce Smith of Bonneville, Arkansas. Graveside service will be 11:00 A. M. Andy was born March 6, 1918 in Kooi, WY to George and Anna Kukuchka. He attended school in Kooi, Kleenburn, and Ranchester. While working with the Civilian Conservation Corps he boxed and won the Montana-Wyoming Golden Gloves in the late 1930-40's. Andy joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served until his honorable discharge in 1944. His military service was followed by twenty-eight years at the Oliver Wallop Ranch and twenty-eight years at the Bradford Brinton Memorial. He was united in marriage to Grace Savage on August 25, 1940. At one time Andy served as the fire chief of the Big Horn Fire Department. Andy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Grace Kukuchka; stepson, Gary; four brothers, George, John, Paul, and Edward; and one sister, Anne Smith. He is survived by his three step-grandchildren, Butch, Roy, and Darlene; and his sisters, Helen Fagenbush of Sandy, UT and Margaret Melton of Sheridan; and one brother, Mike Kukuchka of Sheridan. Dorothy Ann "Dottie" Marosok, 74 of Sheridan passed away at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County on Thursday, June 5, 2008. Dorothy was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on May 29, 1934 to Winifred (Smith) and George Nester Meyers. Dorothy’s father was an army officer and the family traveled extensivly. Dorothy volunteered at the Sheridan Senior Center and the Salvation Army, enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especialy her grandchildren, and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Lichtenhan. She is survived by her children, Kathy Orlandi, of West Jordan, UT; Karen Marosok and Rob Marosok both of Sheridan; her grandchildren, Tammy Jolley, Rick Orlandi, Katy Marosok and Paxton Marosok; and three great grandchildren. Bill was born on August 27, 1929 in Sheridan to Victor and Gladys Miller. He was a graduate of Sheridan High School and attended Sheridan College for one year. He then enlisted in the Air Force in 1950 which he served with the 93rd Bomb Wing until his honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant in 1954. Bill married Valerie E. Page on October 18, 1952 in Ramsgate Kent England and they raised four daughters together in Sheridan. He was a member of the VFW, an avid golfer and fisherman. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; three brothers; and one grandson, Mark Kobielusz. He is survived by his wife, Valerie Miller of Sheridan; his four daughters, Susan Norskog-Jackson (Jay)of Powell, WY, Shelley Volz (Marty) of Cheyenne, WY, Lorraine Kobielusz (George) of Sheridan, and Sally Pedersen of Rock Springs, WY; his eight grandchildren, Stacie and Jason Volz, Shaun Kobielusz, Donny and Stephanie Pedersen, Mandy Norskog-Gutierrez (Chad), and Toby Norskog (Brook); and his brother, Robert A. Palmero, 70, of Sheridan, passed away at the Sheridan VA Medical Center on Thursday, June 26, 2008. Robert was born on October 23, 1937 in Penrose, CO to Lawrence and De’Marie Palmero. Robert served in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1962. He was employed by the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Bobby. Walter Salveson, 90, of Sheridan, WY, died Tuesday, June 24, 2008 in Sheridan Manor. Mr. Salveson was born October 24, 1917 in Pony, Montana to Pete and Josephine (Walter) Salveson. He grew up and attended Sheridan schools and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1937. Walt was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during World War II. He married Lucy Destefano November 11, 1950 in the Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheridan. Mr. Salveson was a mechanic for many years, working for Cook Ford Sales and later Hammers, Inc. before retiring in 1983. Walt was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheridan, and the Sheridan Elk’s Lodge, #520. He enjoyed traveling in the couple’s motor home and trips to the mountains, but he especially loved spending time with his family and friends. Walt was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Pete Salveson, Jr., and one sister, Hazel Davis. He is survived by his wife, Lucy, of Sheridan; two daughters, Nancy (Dennis) Nelson, and Marty (Steve) Harker, both of Sheridan, WY; one brother, Jim Salveson, of Walnut Creek, California; one sister, Josie Barrett, of Billings, Montana; four grandchildren, Jim (Emily) Nelson, of Sheridan, WY, Gene Nelson, of Gillette, WY, Stephanie (Marshall) Townsend, of Buffalo, WY, and Erin Harker and fiancé Jake Lingo, of Tualatin, Oregon. A Vigil service for Mr. Salveson will be 7:00 P.M. Friday, June 27, 2008 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Ronald Murray officiating. Funeral Liturgy will be 10:00 A.M. Ridge Rd., Sheridan, WY 82801 Ernest F. “Ernie” Sorenson, 79, of Sheridan, WY, died Friday, June 6, 2008 in Sheridan Manor. Ernie married Aldeen Coleman January 17, 1948 in Bismarck, North Dakota. They had five children. Later, he married Janice Werner. Mr. Sorenson was assistant manager and then manager of various grain elevators in North Dakota and Montana. Ernie later went into the insurance business and various small jobs until his retirement. He resided for a number of years in Reno, Nevada. He moved to Sheridan, WY in December of 2003 to be near his daughters. Ernie was a member of the Lutheran Church and a past member of the Eagle’s and Moose lodges. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and taking drives in the country. He especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and one son, Virgil. Mr. Sorenson is survived by four daughters, Jan and Manny Meckle, and Susan Bonnet, both of Sheridan, WY, Karen and Melvin Fischer, of Bismarck, ND, and Sheila Klein, of Portland, OR; one sister, Ida Mae Wagner, of Wilton, ND; 11 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life for Mr. Sorenson will be held from 9:00 A. M. to 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at Sheridan Manor. A Memorial service will be held in Bismarck, North Dakota at the House of Prayer Lutheran Church at 1:00 P. M. on Saturday, June 21, 2008 with Pastor Joel Samuelson officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home, Sheridan, WY. Virginia "Ginny" Wiley, 62, of Gillette, passed away on June 26, 2008 at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Ginny was born on September 16, 1945 in Sturgis, SD to Harvey and Evelyn Whitman. She graduated from Sturgis High School and went on to receive her BA Degree from the National College of Business in Rapid City, SD. Ginny married Bruce Wiley in Sheridan on December 7, 1987. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and had her own fabric business. She loved taking drives in the country. Ginny was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Michelle Willey-Egly. She is survived by her husband, Bruce of Gillette; her daughter, Candi Fernau of Ainsworth, NE; her grandson, Grady Egly; and her siblings, Shirley Gregory, Wayne Whitman, Peggy Rice, and Dean Whitman. Cremation has taken place and per Ginny’s request no services are scheduled. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial’s be made in Ginny’s name to her family at PO Box 2310, Gillette, WY 82717.
