Susan Patton Fletcher, 54, of Sheridan, passed away on October 17, 2007 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings, MT.

Sue was born in Dillon, MT on February 19, 1953, to John and Virginia (Tovey) Patton. In 1954 the Patton Family moved to Sheridan, where Sue attended Sheridan Elementary and High Schools. She met and married George Fletcher in Sheridan Wyoming in 1971. Sue worked and raised kids in Bozeman, Montana from 1972 to 1976 while her husband attended college. The couple moved back to Sheridan in 1976 where Sue continued to work as a full time Wife and Mother raising three beautiful and accomplished children.

After her children were in school, Sue began working part time for Fletcher Construction Co. as payroll clerk. Eventually Sue became the full charge bookkeeper and corporate secretary/treasurer for Fletcher Construction Company. She was a member of the board of directors for Fletcher Construction for over 20 years. She was a business woman and active co-owner of both Fletcher Construction and Fletcher Development L. L. C. After retiring as "bookkeeper" Sue enjoyed working on the job with the ‘crews" having helped shingle roofs, pour and finish concrete, general labor, and operate a skid steer loader. Sue was ultimately promoted to "Director of Fun" for Fletcher Construction a title she held until her death.

Sue’s personal labor in building the addition to the family cabin at TeePee in the Big horn Mountains was one of her latest and greatest joys. This "cabin" is another example of the gifts she has left to her family and friends who remain behind her. She enjoyed the rewards of physical labor and accomplishment of physical tasks and would accept the position of the "hefe" with a little coercion. Sometimes while working or playing she was promoted to the rank of General (Patton) thus outranking her brother Col. William D. Patton.

Sue loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and friends. Sue was loved by everyone who had the honor of knowing her. She most enjoyed surrounding herself with her family and friends. She was always a giver and never a taker. She gave her love, care and enjoyment in life to others, never expecting anything in return. She lavished her grandchildren and family and her friends with her love and with gifts.

Sue was a practical joker. She enjoyed dishing them out and receiving the retributions, although we have yet to find anyone who stayed "one up" on her. From pies in the face, to undergarments on flagpoles and personal attire plastered to cottonwood trees. Mannequin legs and mannequin parts, gag gifts, portable monument toilets, greased toilet seats, personalized license plates selected and installed. Most of the practical jokes were delivered incognito and remain unknown to the victims as yet today. You may be one of her targets. Eventually they all forgave her, but sometimes it took awhile.

She enjoyed traveling, from Maine to Hawaii in the U. S. and to Puerto Angel, Oaxaca, and other special places in Mexico. She loved to spend time at her cabin and at her home with family and friends. She liked to entertain, play bridge and go to the WYO Theater.

Sue was one of her children and grandchildren’s biggest supporters, especially in horses, 4-H, and competitive sports. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, sudoku, ranching, and farming. Sue was a true western woman. A great pleasure in Sue’s life was playing and working with her life partner, George.

She was a member of the Sheridan Jaycees, a precinct committee woman for the Republican Party. She worked on political campaigns for Republican candidates for political offices. She sat on the citizen’s advisory board for the Wyoming State Unemployment Department. She was an advisory board member of the Sheridan Wyo Rodeo Gold Buckle Club.

Sue was a strong supporter of the WYO Theater and Sheridan College. She was very passionate about encouraging lifetime learning. She was chairwoman for the Wyoming Matching Endowment Program at Sheridan College. While Endowment Chairwoman, Sue set up the Fletcher Construction Scholarship fund which will be renamed the Susan Patton Fletcher Memorial Fund to honor her fundraising efforts for our local community college. Sue was the current President of Sheridan College Foundation Board of Directors. She is a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and past President of St. Peter’s Altar Guild. Sue was also a member and past President of the P.E.O. Chapter AM and past President of the WYO Theater Board.

Sue is survived by her husband, George, of Sheridan; her two daughters, Amy Bouley and Georgia Boley, her son, Samuel all of Sheridan, her parents, John and Virginia Patton of Sheridan; her grandmother, Anna Tovey of Dillon, MT; her three brothers, William (Bill) Patton of Sheridan and John C. (Jack) Patton of Cheyenne and James ("JT") Patton of Saint Cloud, FL; her sister, Virginia (Jinny) Stratton of Bozeman; and her five grandchildren, Olivia and Elliot Boley and Clara, Rebecca, and Leah Bouley.

Sue was diagnosed with chronic lymphatic Leukemia (CLL) in 2002.In April 2007 she started chemotherapy treatment. During the treatments she became sick which lead to life flight her from Sheridan to Billings. After two months at St. Vincent’ and exhausting all known treatments and the final diagnosis she eventually passed.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with the Reverend David Duprey officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests that persons wishing to make memorials do so to the Susan Patton Fletcher Endowed Scholarship Fund, c/o Sheridan College Foundation, 3059 Coffeen Ave., Sheridan, WY 82801 or to the WYO Theater, 42 N. Main, Sheridan, WY 82801.
