Patricia A. Asmussen, 71, of Sheridan, passed away on September 29, 2007, at her residence.

Patty was born April 6, 1936 in Onida, S.D. to Charles and Velva Telford. She married William Asmussen in Folkston, GA on December 24, 1956.

Patty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband. She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Asmussen of Sheridan; her sons, Eric Asmussen of Dayton, WY and William Asmussen of Cathedral City, CA; and her grandchildren, Mia, Jake, Zack, and William; and her great-grandchildren, Alex, Samantha, Albert, and Bailey.

Cremation has taken place and services will be at a later date. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Pat’s name to the American Cancer Society, 907 N. Poplar Ave, Suite 185, Casper, WY 82601 or to the Sheridan Senior Citizens Center, 211 Smith, Sheridan, WY 82801.


Maxon Paul Baker, age 87, of Sheridan, WY died Monday, September 3, 2007, in the V.A. Medical Center, Sheridan.

Max was born April 14, 1920, in Ogden, UT to Henry & Alice (Simpson) Baker.

Max grew up in the Buffalo / Sheridan area the majority of his life and attended Sheridan schools.  He enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1942.  He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal in 1945 and was discharged in 1946.  Max married Rose Polito on July 13, 1947, in Sheridan.  He worked at the Sheridan Flour Mill, The Mills Company and after retirement helped transport vehicles for Avis.  Max was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and Elks Lodge #520.

Max was preceded in death by his wife and two sisters.

Max is survived by his daughter Janus Powell of Ranchester, WY, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 1:00pm until 5:00pm on Thursday (Sept 6th) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home.  Funeral Liturgy will be 11:00am on Friday from Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ronald Stolcis officiating.  Interment will be in Sheridan Elks Cemetery.  Military rites are by the American Legion and the Wyoming National Guard.  Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Memorials may benefit Holy Name School, 9 S. Connor St., Sheridan, WY  82801.


Stella E. Davis, 88, of Sheridan, WY, died Friday, September 28, 2007 at her residence.

Mrs. Davis was born May 11, 1919 in Dietz, WY to Gregary (Gus) and Anna (Bartis) Kumor.  She grew up and attended schools in Sheridan and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1938.

Mrs. Davis married Howard W. Davis December 23, 1943 in San Francisco, CA.  While in San Francisco, Mrs. Davis worked in a drug store.  She also worked at the Cloverleaf Bakery and at Sheridan Manor, (Eventide).

Stella was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, the DOE’S, and was a past member of Kendrick Golf Course.

She enjoyed gardening, artwork, playing golf, and camping.  Stella especially loved spending time with her family.

Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Howard W. Davis, one son, Micheal John Davis, two brothers, and five sisters.

She is survived by one son, Fred Davis, of Sheridan, WY; two daughters, Jennifer Johnson, of Sheridan, WY, and Sandy Kinnaird, of Banner, WY; 8 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

Visitation for Mrs. Davis will be from 5:00 P. M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 P. M. Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with George Tellez officiating.  Interment will be in the Elk’s Section of the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Memorials in memory of Mrs. Davis may be made to the Holy Name Parish, 260 E. Loucks St., Sheridan, WY, 82801, or to the charity of the donor’s choice. 


Jeffrey Fairbank, 49, of Sheridan, passed away on September 9, 2007 at his residence.

Jeff was born in Rapid City, SD on October 5, 1957 , to Glenn and June Fairbank. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1976. Jeff then went on to attend Western Wyoming Community College where he made the Presidents Honor Roll and graduated in 1993 with an AAS Degree in Respiratory Therapy. He had been an employee of Sheridan County Memorial Hospital, Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria, OR, Lincare and at the time of his death Jeff was employed at the Sheridan VA Medical Center. Jeff enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Jeff was preceded in death by his son, Chris Fairbank and a brother, David Fairbank. He is survived by his son, Adam Fairbank of Sheridan; his parents, Glenn and June Fairbank of Sheridan; his siblings, Barbara Bennick of Sheridan, Glenn Fairbank of Bonner Springs, KS, Jeri Bagley of Henderson, NV, and Dan Fairbank of Sutcliffe, NV; and his three grandchildren, Fantasia, Kenda, and Destiney.

Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will be held at Kane Funeral Home on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at 4:00 pm. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements.


Edward N. Green, age 66, of Sheridan, WY died Sunday, September 2, 2007, in Billings Clinic Hospital, Billings, MT.

Ed was born October 4, 1940, in Sheridan to Harry & Louise (Johnston) Green.

Ed grew up and graduated from high school in Sheridan.  He enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Korea.  After the service, he returned to Sheridan and married Vikki Jones on June 20, 1964.  He worked as a barber for several years and then joined the Sheridan Fire Department.  He rose to the rank of Captain and retired in 1995 after 26 years of service.  After retiring, he drove school bus for several years.  Ed was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Sheridan County Sportsman’s Assn., Wyoming Muzzleloading Assn., Sheridan Bull Shooter’s Club, NRA, National Muzzleloading Assn., YMCA and the International Assn. of Firefighters Local #276.  An avid NASCAR fan, he enjoyed playing cribbage, cooking, riding his Harley, horseback riding, hunting and many outdoor activities.  Ed loved being with his grandchildren.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dennis.

Ed is survived by his wife Vikki of Sheridan; son John of Sheridan; daughter Lora Smith of Sheridan; brothers Gary, Snook and Bob of Sheridan; and four grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 11:00am until 7:00pm on Wednesday (Sept. 5th) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be 2:00pm on Thursday from St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Kevin Jones officiating.  Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.  Military rites are by the American Legion and the Wyoming National Guard.  Following the service, there will be a celebration of life reception at Elks Lodge #520. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home

Jane Holler, age 83, of Sheridan, WY died Sunday, September 30, 2007, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Jane was born July 14, 1924, in Sheridan.

Jane grew up, attended grade school and graduated from high school in Sheridan.  After high school, she worked at the Eaton Dude Ranch.  There she met Rusty Holler, the love of her life.  In 1945, they married and worked on the Gregg Ranch on Little Goose Creek.  In 1948, they moved to the 60 Bar Ranch north of Gillette, WY where they spent forty years.  In 1987, they retired and moved back to Sheridan.  Rusty died on September 5, 1999. 

Jane is survived by her daughter Pat Holler of Billings, MT.

Graveside committal of cremains will be private.  Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Goldie Kistler, age 87, of Sheridan, WY died Tuesday, September 4, 2007, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Goldie was born May 17, 1920, in Watertown, S. Dakota, to Russell & Leah (Fisher) Bell

Goldie grew up in S. Dakota.  She graduated high school in Mitchell, SD.  She married Keith Kistler in 1945 in S. Dakota.  They lived in California until moving to Sheridan in 1984.  Keith died in 1991.  Goldie enjoyed gardening, sewing and puzzles.

Goldie was preceded in death by her daughter Penny Lightner.

Goldie is survived by her sons Roger of Sheridan and Ed of Roseville, CA; daughter Shelley McEvoy of Isabella, Missouri; brother Richard Bell of Gillette, WY; sister Violet Ferreira of San Diego, CA and Tiney Lutz of Dickson, Missouri and numerous grand and great grandchildren.

Private family service will be at a later date.
Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.


Merrill George Nay, 87, passed away on September 20, 2007 at Westview Health Care Center.

George was born on July 1, 1920 in Richfield, UT to Shirl and Ella Nay. After graduating from Wasatch Academy in Mt. Pleasant, Utah he enlisted in the Navy until his honorable discharge in 1945, receiving the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for Heroism while serving in the South Atlantic. He married Virginia Erickson who preceded him in death in 1984. He married Ruth Schreibeis on March 7, 1987 in Sheridan. George was a construction supervisor for N.A. Nelson Construction for thirty-eight years. He enjoyed fishing, RV traveling, motorcycling, family picnics, and spending time with his friends and family.

His parents, three brothers, and one sister preceded George in death. He is survived by his wife Ruth; a sister, Sue Brudvig of California; his daughters, Judy Joy, Jan Winkler, and Sue Spencer; his seven grandchildren, Jeff Oneyear, Dayna Dewey, Julie Coon, Heather Rader, Allen Spencer, Amy Pool, and Max Winkler; and his eleven great-grandchildren. Two stepchildren also survive him, Barbara Blaney and Irv Blaney, both of South Dakota.

Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at 10:00 am. Following will be a commitment service in the Elks Section of the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with military honors. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials in George’s name be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1300 W. 5th, Sheridan, WY 82801 or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation c/o Bob and Jan Winkler, 909 Logan #4K, Denver, CO 80203.


Dorothy Newcomer, 87, passed away on September 3, 2007 at Westview Health Care Center.

Dorothy was born on August 8, 1920 to Charles and Vera Hebard.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Chuck Heberd. She is survived by her sons, Charlie Newcomer and his wife Lynne of Sheridan and Bob Newcomer and his wife Denise of Howard City, MI; her four grandchildren, Jesse Newcomer and Sara Newcomer both of Sheridan and Amanda Newcomer and Brady Newcomer both of Howard City, MI; and one great-grandchild.

Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at a later date. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements.


Donald Kramer, 71, of Ranchester, passed away on September 13, 2007, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Cremation has taken place with memorial services being held at 10:30 am on Monday, September 17, 2007 at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor William Heine officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made in Donald’s name to the Ranchester Volunteer Fire Department.


Rob Rogers, died Monday night (Septmeber 24), in Cheyenne, surrounded by family and  friends, after three days in a coma. He had a cardiac arrest while at  work on Thursday and his brain was denied blood for too long. He is  survived by his son, James Macgregor Rogers, "Mac", age 8, his mother  Rowena Rogers, 5 sisters and his parent partner and friend, me.In  Cheyenne, we will have a vigil at 3:30 Wednesday 9/26 at Weiderspahn  Funeral Home, 1900 19th Street. Thursday the funeral mass will be held  at 1:00 at Saint Mary's Cathedral, 2107 Capital Avenue. We will have a  gathering at the cathedral after the mass. All the family is in  Cheyenne now. The Cheyenne community has been tremendously supportive.  In Colorado, we will celebrate Robby's life and inter his ashes at our  family cabin, Tahosa, west of Evergreen, on  Saturday 9/29. The  memorial will begin at 2:00. Dress for the mountains.Please help us  share this information. All are invited to any of the services and  celebration and all are welcome. Mac would like a list of everyone who  cares about his father. If you wish to bring a list of everyone you  know who cares, we would like that.I will send detailed directions to  Tahosa soon. Thank you for all of your love, kindness, and prayers.


Thelma A. Shell, age 85, of Sheridan, WY died Sunday, September 2, 2007, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Thelma was born April 18, 1922, in a tent-cabin on the family homestead near Ucross, Wyoming, to LeRoy & Blanche (Minion) Bliss.

Thelma attended grade school at Ucross and graduated from Clearmont High School in 1940.  In high school, she was active in gymnastics, basketball and the speech team.  In 1942, she married Lewis W. Shell in Hardin, Montana.  For a number of years she and her husband worked on area ranches.  During WWII when there was a shortage of help, she helped in the hay fields driving the buck rake with a team of horses.  She was the ranch cook at many of the ranches they lived on and also for two years at the Copper Kettle in Sheridan.  In 1968, she started working in the office at Goar’s Shoe Store and then for the Perkins Foundation until retiring in 1984.  Thelma loved artwork, mainly working in oils and pen and ink.  She also enjoyed knitting, needle crafts, cooking and canning.  Over the years she was a member of the Big Horn Women’s Club, Big Goose Women’s Club, Sheridan Artist Guild and Business and Professional Women’s Association.

Thelma is preceded in death by her parents, sister Juanita Hart, brother Alfred and two half brothers LeRoy & Jack Neimier.

Thelma is survived by her husband Lewis of Sheridan; sons LeRoy of Sheridan and Jim of Buffalo, WY; daughter Ardath Lunbeck of Story, WY; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Vigil service will be 7:00pm on Thursday (Sept. 6th) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Father Ronald Stolcis officiating.  Inurnment of cremains will be in Sheridan Elks Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.


Claude F. Stevenson, 96, of Sheridan, passed away on September 28, 2007, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Mr. Stevenson was born March 5, 1911 in Cedar Falls, Iowa to Charles Robert and Emma Marie Stevenson. He married Elizabeth Madson on December 13, 1931 in Northwood, Iowa. Mrs. Stevenson died in 1977. He worked in the printing business in Northwood, Iowa, Washington D.C., and Bozeman, Montana until finally permanently settling in Sheridan. In Sheridan he worked for the Sheridan Press and the Mills Company. After retirement from the Mills Company he worked on special projects for Sheridan Printing and was the last linotype operator in Sheridan. For many years after his retirement he spent summers managing the gardens at Eaton’s Ranch in Wolf, Wyoming. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Big Horn Mountains, photography, and traveling. He was a Mason and a 32nd Degree member of Scottish Rite. He was a devoted member of the Kalif Shrine and the Shrine Oriental Band.

Mr. Stevenson was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth, a sister Nina Kruse, a daughter, Kathryn, and a grandson, Guy F. Stevenson. He is survived by his son, David G. Stevenson and his wife Jean of Sheridan; one granddaughter, Kathryn (Shane) Gallant of Canton, Maine; four step-grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at Kane Funeral Home on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at 10:00 am with interment of cremains to follow in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with Al Badgett officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Claude’s name to the Kalif Shrine Endowment Fund, 145 W. Loucks, Sheridan, WY 82801.


Gertrude Storm, 101, of Sheridan, passed away on September 27, 2007, at Westview Health Care Center.

She was born July 6, 1906 in Dennis, Mass., the daughter of Cora and Levi S. Howes. Gertrude grew up on the Circle Bar family ranch at Otter, Montana, where cowboy artist Bill Gollings was a frequent visitor. He encouraged her to pursue a career in painting.

Gertrude attended Sheridan schools, Carleton College, and the University of Washington where she studied painting and design and received her BFA Degree. She had one-man art shows at Sheridan College, Wagner's Art Gallery, the Custer County Art Center in Miles City MT and the Powder River County Library at Broadus MT. Her work was also shown in Butte and Billings MT and in Deadwood, Newell, Lead, and Sturgis South Dakota. In 1936 she helped organize and was president of the Sheridan Art Forum, now known as the Sheridan Art Guild.

Gertrude married Archie Storm on October 7, 1930 and they lived in Sheridan WY. He preceded her in death, as did her daughter Virginia (Mrs. John) Peasley.

Her life revolved around her family and her home, which she enjoyed restoring. She also enjoyed ranching, gardening, needlecraft, playing bridge, church, and her cats; and she entertained her family by reciting lengthy poems from memory. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sheridan. She was also a member of D.A.R., Mayflower Descendants, Sheridan Book Review Club, Daughters of the Nile, Beauceant, and the Northern Plains Resource Council.

She is survived by her daughter Catherine Wakefield (Bob) of Sheridan, five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2007, at First Presbyterian Church in Sheridan with Kane Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.


Edward F. Wattenberg, age 77, of Sheridan, WY died on Friday, September 7, 2007, in the V.A. Medical Center, Sheridan.

Ed was born May 9, 1930, in Sheridan to Edward & Erma (Williams) Wattenberg.

Ed grew up and attended schools in Sheridan.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Winston during the Korean War.  After the service, he returned to Sheridan where he married Wanda Eversull on December 27, 1954.  They operated the family dairy farm south of Sheridan until 1975.  He then delivered mail for a few years until moving near Thermopolis, WY.  He retired in 1996 and returned to Sheridan.  Ed enjoyed fishing and playing cards.

Ed was preceded in death by his son Myron, sister Ella Mae and brother Robert.

Ed is survived by his wife Wanda of Sheridan; daughters Erma Jean Claflin and Edna Mae Wattenberg both of Sheridan and one grandson.

Private family serves will be at a later date.
Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
