Gertrude M. Brace, age 86, of Banner, WY died Monday, May 7, 2007, in Sheridan Manor. She grew up and attended schools in North Dakota. Gertrude married Merwin Brace in 1946 and lived in Grand Ledge, Michigan. She worked for Cutler Plastics in Lansing, MI until she retired. She moved to Eagle, CO for 12 years and then returned to Michigan. She came to Sheridan area in June, 2006 to be near family. Gertrude enjoyed gardening, embroidery, reading and making rag rugs. Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, and two daughters Mary Ann and Amy Lou. Gertrude is survived by her daughter Dora Prince of Banner, WY; brother Edwin Hochhalter of N. Dakota; sister Delores Kuntz of N. Dakota and three grandchildren. A private family service will be held later. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Memorials may benefit the American Diabetes Assn., Esther Bumbaca, 90, of Sheridan, passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at Sheridan Manor. Esther was born at the Powers Ranch, located in the Squirrel Creek Valley near Decker, MT on May 17, 1916 to Frank and Nora (Foss) Powers. She attended the school in Squirrel Creek and graduated from Sheridan High School. She married Dominic Bumbaca in Hardin, MT on December 31, 1939. She had ranched with her family in Decker for many years until retiring in 1972 when she and Dominic moved to Sheridan. Esther enjoyed painting and was very generous with her paintings. Esther was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers; and a sister. She is survived by her son, David Bumbaca of Sheridan; her grandson, Wayne Bumbaca of Sheridan; and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held in the Oddfellows section of the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 19, 2007. Kane Funeral is handling arrangements. (Larry) Davis, 76, of Buffalo, who passed away on Friday, May 25, 2007, at the VA Medical Center in Sheridan was born on September 22, 1930, in Ontario, Wisconsin, to Vernon and Florence (Gardner) Davis . He attended Country school in Walrath, Wisconsin, and High School in Glen Flora, Wisconsin. He also attended Southern Oregon College in Ashland, Oregon. Larry joined the Navy in 1947, and in 1952, he married Rose Marie Stevens in Ladysmith, Wisconsin. They were divorced in 1972. In 1952 he moved to Oregon where he worked in sawmills, including KOGAP. In 1964, he went to SE Alaska and worked in the logging camps, and he returned to Oregon in 1968. In 1975, Larry went to Alaska and worked on the Trans-Alaska pipeline as a labor foreman until 1978. He moved to Sheridan in 1978 and worked in construction and in 1982, he returned to Alaska and worked in construction, eventually forming his own construction and snow removal company. After suffering a heart attack, he retired to Oregon and joined a writing group and eventually published a book of his adventures in Alaska in the early 1960's. He returned to Sheridan in 2006. During most of his life, especially during his time in Wyoming, Larry was an avid hunter and fisherman. On his return to Alaska, he became a passionate fisherman and spent countless hours and days with his dong on the Little Su (Susitna) River. He was an inveterate card player and always a reader and a storyteller. He became a writer after retirement. Larry is survived by his two sons, Vernon Davis of Phnom Penh, Cambodia; and Forrest Davis of Talent, Oregon and his sisters: Rosemary Rathsack of Junction City, Oregon; Dolores Novak of Princeton, Wisconsin; Margaret Call of Brigham City, Utah; and Sharon Schultz of Florence, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carolyn Porter. Larry will be remembered for his sense of humor, friendly, but outspoken nature, strength and toughness, and willingness to help others. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff, especially the nurses, at the VA Medical Center of Sheridan. Mrs. Dinnebeck, 87, died, Friday, May 18 at Sheridan Manor. Mrs. Dinnebeck was born in 1919 on the family farm near Loveland, CO to Ellen (Greenwood) and Rufus R. Roller. She grew up in Fort Collins and was graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1938. She also attended nurse’s training at Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Denver. She married Harvey (Brick) Gordon in 1939. They operated Brick’s Plumbing and Heating in Fort Collins until 1954 when the family moved to Wheat Ridge, CO. They were divorced in 1966. She married Paul Wanley in 1967 and resided in Granby, CO. Mr. Wanley died in 1979. Mrs. Dinnebeck married John Dinnebeck of Kremling, CO in August of 1981. He died of brain cancer in December 1981. Mrs. Dinnebeck retired from nursing and became a Mary Kay Consultant, serving the North Park area of the mountains of Northern Colorado. She moved to Sheridan in 1996 to live near her daughter, Lynn Gordon and her granddaughters, Wendy and Kelly Carroll. She was preceded in death by her younger sister, Betty Jean (Kenneth) Strachan of Fort Collins, two husbands and her great grandson, Reece Gale, infant son of Wendy (Carroll) and John Gale. She is survived by her son, Larry Gordon of Pasco, WA, her daughter of Sheridan, four grandchildren, seven great- grandchildren and one great-great grandson. A memorial service for Laveta Dinnebeck will be held at Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church, Friday, June 1 at 3:00 PM with the Reverend David Duprey officiating. Willard W. Given, 87, formerly of Sheridan, WY, died Wednesday, May 2, 2007 in Greeley, CO. Mr. Given was born February 18, 1920 in Sheridan, WY to Warren B. and Neil (Warriner) Given. He grew up and attended schools in Sheridan. Mr. Given was a veteran of W. W. II serving in the European Theater. He married Geraldine Beck December 29, 1943 in Sheridan, WY. Mr. Given was a professional mechanical and electrical engineer. He went into private practice in 1956 doing work in heating, plumbing, and electrical designs, living in Salina, Kansas for 1 year, St. Louis, Missouri for 40 years, and Cheyenne, WY for 15 years. Mr. Given was a member of Missouri Athletic Club, St. Louis Chapter of the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers, the St. Louis Engineer’s Club, American Consulting Engineer’s Council and Rotary International. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Geraldine, in 2006. He is survived by one son, James Given, of Morrison, CO; 3 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Elizabeth ( Betty) Langer, 88, of Sheridan was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on November 10, 1918, the daughter of John & Eva Walter. She passed away on May 12, 2007, at Westview Health Care Center in Sheridan. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Betty & Charles Wendtland and two grandsons, Tony Wendtland and his wife Debbie, and great grandsons Kit and Taylor of Sheridan, and Kyle Wendtland and his wife Kris, and great grandson, Donnie and great granddaughter Hannah of Gillette. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Bette Walter and Ursula Neumann of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, John and Eva Walter, her husband, Heinz Langer, her brother, John Walter Jr., and her niece Diane Walter. Elizabeth’s parents emigrated from Hungary and worked hard to raise their two children during the Great Depression. She lived in various places in Wisconsin until 2001, including Milwaukee, West Allis, Brookfield, Pewaukee, and Cornucopia. In 2001, Elizabeth moved to Dubois, Wyoming, to be closer to her daughter. Although she enjoyed the West, she always thought of Wisconsin as home. Elizabeth was always very proud that she worked in a defense plant during World War II. She started on the floor, and later became a forelady (supervisor) in a tool and die plant in West Allis, Wisconsin, that made parts for the super charger engine enhancers for our airplanes. The addition of superchargers helped us to win the war by allowing our planes to fly faster and at higher altitudes. A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church of Sheridan at 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 24th, 2007.. Funeral services will be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at a date to be announced. Lopez, age 63, of Sheridan, WY died Friday, May 18, 2007, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Tom was born November 7, 1943, in Sheridan to Louis & Pauline (Delgado) Lopez. Tom grew up in Sheridan. He graduated from Holy Name School and Sheridan High School. He served in the National Guard and worked for Hammer’s Chevrolet and Sheridan Electric before going the work at Decker Coal. Tom married Ranelle Johnson on December 8, 1970, in Sheridan. They divorced in 1978. He left Decker Coal in 1988 and worked for Cloud Peak Realty and then for ERA Carroll Realty. Tom was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, Elks Lodge #520, B.H. Mtn. Eagles and Karz Club. He enjoyed playing in the pool league, playing golf, restoring cars, socializing and care for people. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Ernest and Louie and sister Rose Marie. Tom is survived by his son Matt of Hendersonville, TN; daughter Amy Ross of Willcox, AZ; brother John Lopez of Sheridan; sisters Molly Jones of Kirby, MT, Francey Armstrong of Great Falls, MT, Ann Campos of Santa Paula, CA; two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may benefit Elks Lodge #520, Building Fund Frank W. Martin, 66, of Sheridan passed away on May 23, 2007 in Billings, MT. Frank was born in San Diego, CA in 1941 to Frank and Rose Martin. He graduated from El Cajon High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1962. Frank married Valerie Pinterich on February 20, 1993 in Ceres, CA. He worked construction and was the owner/operator of a trucking company and drove most of his working career. Frank enjoyed riding motorcycles, especially his Honda Goldwing, and was a car enthusiast. He was the proud owner of a 1929 Model A old/classic. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Kenneth Lee Martin. He is survived by his wife, Valerie of Sheridan; his five sons, Frank William Martin, Jr. Of Modesto, CA, Paul Eugene Martin and his wife Jan of Carson City, NV, Edward Alan Martin and his wife Amy of Turlock, CA, Michael William Martin of Davenport, IA, and Eric Alan Lloyd of El Cajon, CA; his daughter, Kimberly Ann Bauman of El Cajon, CA; his six grandchildren; and his nine siblings. James Podgornik, 49, of Sheridan, passed away on Monday, May 28, 2007, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Jim was born on June 13, 1957, in Sheridan, to Joseph and Mary (Povsner) Podgornik. He married Kim Link in Buffalo, WY on May 1, 1992. Jim enjoyed hunting, boating, water-skiing, and tinkering with farm equipment. He also loved to travel. Jim was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Kim, of Sheridan; his brother, Jon Podgornik of Sheridan; his sisters, Roberta Cooley and Lee Morgareidge of Sheridan. Georgia Mae Popp, 74, of Sheridan, WY, died Monday, May 7, 2007 at the home of her daughter in Gillette, WY. Mrs. Popp was born December 1, 1932 in Converse County, WY to George William and Flossie May (Faulkner) Scobee. She grew up and attended school at Woodland Park Elementary School and Sheridan High School. Mrs. Popp married Lynn Popp May 31, 1951 in Billings, MT . She enjoyed cross-stitching, plastic canvas, crafts, fishing, camping, reading, hunting, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn; and one son, Eugene. Mrs. Popp is survived by two sons, Robert and Dennis Popp, both of Gillette, WY; two daughters, Debra Popp, of Sheridan, WY, and Annette Canfield, of Gillette, WY; two brothers, William Scobee, of Spearfish, SD, and Henry Scobee, of Ranchester, WY; one sister, Rose Butler, of Sheridan, WY; 9 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. Services for Mrs. Popp are pending with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Rosalie Elizabeth Schrader, 65,of Sheridan County died May 2, 2007 in her home. Rosalie was born July 17, 1941 in Pierce County, ND to Anna and Clemens Volk of North Dakota. She lived in Sheridan County for the past 36 years. In that time she worked in the hospitality industry as a waitress and manager in food and beverage, an associate at a department store, and various other jobs. Rosalie married Lee Schrader in 1991.She loved spending time with family and friends and enjoying the outdoors. Rosalie is survived by her husband Lee; her sons, Darrell Bocek and Wayne Bocek; daughters, Charlene Bocek and Lisa Maney, step children, James, Shane, and Michelle Schrader; her eight sisters, Mary Smith, Barbara Patterson, Sylvia Squire, Jeanette Krohn, Lorraine Altepeter, Sheila Ingram, Verrice Brossart, and Laura Bradley; her two brothers, Ray Volk and Ronald Volk; her three grandchildren, Orion Lee Mofitt, Kaylie Rose Bocek, and Shalee Lin Schrader; and many nieces, grand-nieces, nephews, and grand-nephews. William J. Semingsen, 71, of Billings, MT, died Thursday, May 17, 2007 in Westview Health Care Center. Mr. Semingsen was born January 24, 1936 in Sidney, Montana to Sever George and Alma (Siefert) Semingsen. He grew up on the Highline in northern Montana and moved with the family to Great Falls, Montana when he was 6 years old. William lived at the Boulder Training School in Boulder, Montana, and lived in Big Sandy for a time before moving to Billings, Montana in 1975. William was a member of the Catholic Church, liked spending time with children, animals, the outdoors, and was especially interested in birds. He was preceded in death by his parents; and 2 half sisters. William is survived by one brother, Ray Semingsen, of Sheridan, WY; one half sister, Susan Shrapp, of Great Falls, MT; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was born February 21, 1920, in Sheridan to John P and Lois W. Croff. She graduated from Sheridan High School and attended Pomona College in Claremont, California. Mary married Glenn H. Sheeley, Jr. on July 23, 1941. Mary and Glenn then moved to their home on the Sheeley Ranch where they lived for nearly 66 years of marriage. She was a member of PEO Chapter B, Parkman Promoters and Sheridan County Cattlewomen. She also served on the board of Ranchester State Bank. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brother John P. Croff; sister Nancy Burris; son Glenn Harrison Sheeley III and daugther Pamela Jane. Mary is survived by her husband Glenn H. Sheeley, Jr.; son Bruce D. Sheeley and wife Laurie; grandchildren Glenn H. Sheeley IV and his wife Joey, Regan Sheeley and Ryan D Sheeley and his wife Katie. Private family service will be held later at the ranch. Betty was born in West Union, Illinois on December 5, 1922, the daughter of Fred and Beulah Huffington. She married Norman Spangler on October 8, 1944 in Marshall, Illinois. Betty and Norman left Marshall in 1949, and along with their two daughters, Sharon and Norma, moved to Sheridan. In 1950, she began her career as a registered nurse at Sheridan County Memorial Hospital. Her work at the hospital spanned over 35 years. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling, fishing in the mountains, reading, and embroidering tea towels - literally hundreds of them. A highlight of Betty’s year was being able to participate in several Wyoming craft shows where she met old friends, made new friends, and sold her sets of tea towels and homemade jelly. During her working years, Betty was active in the Wyoming Nurses’ Association and served in various capacities, including State President. She was deeply involved in volunteer work for the Kalif Shrine Center, where she was recognized several times as Kalif Woman of the Year for her dedicated service. She is survived by her husband of nearly 63 years, Norman Spangler and her daughters, Sharon (Jim) Bedard and Norma (Ken) Eberts. In addition, Betty is survived by four grandchildren, Thad (Lauren) Bedard, Scott (Audra) Eberts, Kimberlee (Hugh) Bargman, and Jessica (Dennis) Palaniuk; and 12 great-gandchildren. Also surviving are brothers Jack Huffington, Dean Huffington, and Dale (Joann) Huffington; and sister-in-law, Gene Stewart. Betty was preceded in death by her parents. Gerald Townsend, 70,of Sheridan, passed away at his residence on Saturday, May 5, 2007. At his request cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at Kane Funeral Home on Thursday, May 10, at 11:00 am with Reverend Doug Melius officiating. Gerald "Jerry" was born May 30, 1936 in Sheridan, WY to Agnes A. (Donahue) Townsend and Cyrus C. Townsend. He attended school in Sheridan and joined the Marine Corps in 1953 at the age of seventeen. He served until 1957 achieving the rank of Sargent and was proud of that accomplishment. He married Karen Mullock on Jan. 10, 1970. He was in the retail liquor business for forty years. Twenty-two years in partnership with his brother, Donald, at the Rainbow Bar and eighteen years with his wife, Karen, at the Rendezvous Liquor and Lounge. He was past secretary of the Wyoming State Liquor Dealers for four years. He semi-retired in June 2001 selling the business in November 2001 totally retiring. For need of something to do he started driving mini bus, part time, for the Senior Citizens Center in October 2002. He got a lot of satisfaction out of doing this. October 1, 2005 he was forced to resign this job due to health reasons. His greatest loves in life were his wife, partner, and best friend, Karen, his son Rick, his son Randy and wife Miranda, his two beautiful granddaughters, Cassi and Whitney, and grandson Hunter, and his little dog Precious. Some of the joys in his life were hunting and camping with family and friends, get togethers with family friends for barbeques and games. He was preceded in death by his father, Sept. 29, 1991 and his mother May 19, 2001. Survivors include his wife, two sons, two granddaughters, grandson, two brothers, Don and Darrell from Sheridan, a sister Barbara Lilley from California, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pauline Veach, age 89, of Sheridan, WY died Monday, May 28, 2007, in her Sheridan home. Pauline was born August 29, 1917, in Sheridan to George and Katherine (Schrinder) Adams. She grew up and attended schools in Sheridan. Pauline married J. Byron Veach on December 16, 1940, in Sheridan. Pauline was a dedicated caregiver for many children in her home throughout the years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, taking rides around the county and taking care of children. Pauline was preceded in death by her husband; brother David; sisters Amelia Derrickson, Sarah Fauser and Emilie Jelly. Pauline is survived by her daughters Charlotte Hein, Emma Jean Hando and Kathy Oatts all of Sheridan; seven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Memorials may benefit Hospice of the Big Horns, Orville "Red" Warner, 87, of Sheridan, passed away on May 13, 2007, at Westview Health Care Center. He was born to David and Pansy Warner in Galeton, Colo. Jan. 31, 1920. The family moved to Idaho while he was a small child. He grew up on the family farm with four brothers, Darwin (deceased), Ralph (deceased), Bud (Donna) Warner of Boise, Idaho, Merle Warner of Boise, Idaho and two sisters, Irene Itschner of Pendleton, Oregon and Marylene (Lloyd) Horn of Boise, Idaho. Orville graduated from Gem State Academy and as a young man worked for the Forest Service. During WWII he became a medic in the Army and served in France, Germany, and stateside. In 1944 Orville married LaVonne Henderson in Topeka, Kansas and in 1951 they moved to Sheridan, Wyo. They had three children, Orvella (Jim) Burris of Sheridan, William (Leslie) Warner of Elberta, Alabama, and Thomas Warner of Sheridan, Wyo. Orville worked as an aide, then later as a therapist in the manual arts department at the Sheridan V. A. Medical Center. He retired in 1975, moved to Boise, Idaho and married Elaine Kivett in 1976. Orville had two step-children, Charles Kivett and Valley (Bob) Klammer. Orville was a lifelong member of the Seventh-Day-Adventist Church, assisted in Pathfinder activities, enjoyed hunting and fishing, rock hunting, archaeology digs, reading, and especially having "feasts" with family and friends. After Orville retired from the V.A. he and Elaine enjoyed going on Maranatha building projects across the U.S., Hawaii, Mexico, Alaska, Sweden, Santa Domingo, and Africa. He belonged to the Sheridan – Buffalo Archaeology Society, Idaho Rock & Gem Society, and the Idaho Historical Society. Elaine passed away in 2001 and later, Orville moved back to Sheridan, residing at Heritage Towers. He had several "honorary" children, Mark & Debbie Oedekoven & Family of Utah, Kathleen Kelly of Sheridan, Wyo, Kathy Weinsaft of Glenrock, Wyo., and a close special relationship with the daughters and families of John & May Fox of Rozet, Wyo. Other relatives include, Loise & Earl Jackson of Auburn, Kansas, Shirley Henderson, Auburn, Kansas, and Herb & Joan Henderson of Roseville, Calif. Orville’s grandchildren are James Burris, Susan Rogers, Andrew Burris, Aquilla Warner, and Olivia Warner. He also had seven great-grandchildren. We, the family, wish to extend our special thanks to: Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, May 17,. 2007, at 10:30am at the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Sheridan with Pastor Gordon Henderson officiating. Interment will be at Terrace Lawn Memorial Gardens in Boise, Idaho. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Arline E. Wood, 79, passed away Friday, May 18, 2007, at Sheridan Manor following an extended illness. She was born in Sheridan on September 27, 1927 to Jess M. and Rose E. (McDonald) Ellsworth. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1945 and married Harold W. Wood that same year in Billings, MT. She was a member of numerous organizations including Daughters of the Nile, where she served as Queen in 1976, Beauceant, Order of the Eastern Star, Akcita Win, and various other social groups. She worked as a telephone operator at Bell Telephone where she met her life-long friend, Bettye Wamhoff. Her career also included Medical Secretary for the Schunk Clinic and Dr. Pete Schunk and Administrative Assistant for Whitney Benefits. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and her dachshund. She spent many pleasant hours tending flowers in her flower gardens and many weekends at the family cabin in the Big Horn Mountains. She was preceded in death by her husband; her sister, Dorothy Ellsworth: and her brother Warren D. Ellsworth She is survived by her three children, Darlene Gilkey Ron Wood and Robert Wood and his wife Debbie and Bob Wood and his wife Lauri, all of Sheridan, her twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews who will all miss her greatly. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church on Wednesday, May 24, 2007 at 10:30 am with Reverend David Duprey officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow at the St. Peter’s Parish Hall. Kane Funeral is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial’s in Arline’s name be made to the Kalif Shrine Center Children’s Hospital Travel Fund, P.O. Box K, Sheridan, WY 82801 or to the Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter, 84 East Ridge Road, Sheridan, WY 82801.s
