Rita Deur, 92, died on Thursday April 26, 2007 at Sheridan Manor. She was born on September 7, 1914 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Thomas and Vera Arnold. She married Joseph Deur on January 8, 1938. They lived in New York, Florida, Arizona and Wyoming. Rita was preceded in death by her husband, and her brother-in-law Milton Sherman. She is survived by her sister Edith Sherman, nephews Tom (Judy) Sherman of Wyandotte Michigan and Mike (Darlene Reiter) Sherman of Sheridan. Memorial services will be at Kane Funeral Home on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 10:00 am with The Reverend Peter James Mwaura officiating. Interment of cremains will follow in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Enzi passed away on April 2, 2007 at Sheridan Memorial Hospital, Sheridan WY. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 7 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Sheridan, Wyoming with Rev. Doug Melius officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Dorothy was born in Hillsboro Oregon at the home of her grandmother, Minerva Bradley, on April 9, 1923. She was the youngest of four children of Albert and Marie Bradley. When she was six weeks old, the family left Hillsboro to return to the family homestead in Montana, camping out each night in a tent. She grew up in Hysham, MT, but the family later moved to Billings, MT. Dorothy graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1941. She worked as a sales clerk and secretary at Woolworth’s, ABC Kiddies Shop, and Gambles in Billings while attending high school and night classes at Billings Business College. She met her future husband, Elmer Enzi at a wedding in which she was the Maid of Honor and he was the Best Man. Dorothy and Elmer were married in Renton, Washington on August 31, 1942. Elmer was in the Navy during World War II and they lived in Geneva, NY, Milwaukee, WI, and Seattle WA. While he was serving in the Navy, Dorothy worked in the Office of Price Administration as a Tire Rationing Director and then as a Gas Rationing Director at the Naval Base at Bremerton, WA. In 1946 they returned to Billings and purchased the RWB Grocery Store which they operated for one year until they moved to Thermopolis, WY and opened a trailer court and sales outlet for several years. Dorothy received many honors and awards during her life, and she was active in all of her organizations. She was the first woman President of the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce (1975), Director of the National Miss Indian America Pageant for 12 years, twice Worthy Matron of Naomi Chapter Order of Eastern Star, twice President of the Social Order of Beauceant, Past Queen of Daughters of the Nile, served as an Elder and Sunday School Superintendent for the First Presbyterian Church, was the manager of the Sheridan Memorial Hospital gift shop for three years, was named the 1995 Woman of Distinction by the Sheridan and Johnson County Girl Scout Leaders, the 1995 Sheridan Press Person of the Year, and the Wyoming Mother of the Year in 1998. She also served on the boards of the Sheridan Senior Center, the Salvation Army, Lifelink, and Camp Story and was a Committeewoman for the Republican Party. She was a Cub Scout leader for three years and a Brownie Scout and Girl Scout leader for 12 years. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, her sisters Marie Wescott, Wilma Curtis, and an infant sister. She is survived by a son, U.S. Senator Mike Enzi and his wife Diana of Gillette and Washington, D.C., and a daughter, Marilyn Koester and her husband Bob of Sheridan; three grandchildren, Amy Enzi of Sheridan, Brad Enzi (Danielle) of Cheyenne, and Emily McGrady (Mike) of Cheyenne, and one great grandchild, Trey Enzi of Cheyenne. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. (Charley) Hamilton, 85, of Sheridan, WY, died Wednesday, April 18, 2007 in the Sheridan V. A. Medical Center. Mr. Hamilton was born September 27, 1921 in Sheridan, WY to Charles W. and Gladys (Holcomb) Hamilton. He grew up on the family ranch on Spring Creek north of Decker, MT, on Rapid Creek Southwest of Sheridan, where he attended Sheridan High School. Charley was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. Upon his return to Sheridan, Charley became a rancher, raising registered Morgan Horses on the family ranch in Parkman, WY. He also worked for the U. S. Forest Service, cut post and poles in the Big Horn Mountains, was a fence contractor, and worked for Big Horn Coal. Charley married Patsye Wallace, and she preceded him in death in 1992. Charley was a true cowboy and horseman who loved being in and working the Big Horn Mountains. He was an avid reader, and loved gold prospecting in the South and the Rocky Mountain area. Mr. Hamilton was a life member of Sheridan Elk’s Lodge #520, and a member of the American Morgan Horse Association. Charley was also preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael Charles Hamilton; and brothers Robert and Kent Harry Hamilton. He is survived by his current wife, Frances Hamilton, of Sheridan, WY; one son, Kelly J. Hamilton and wife, Cindy, of Cheyenne, WY; two grandchildren, Richard Lee Hamilton, of Greenville, TX, and Hayden Michael Hamilton, of Powell, WY; five nieces and nephews that were very important to Dad-- Bob Hamilton, Russell Hamilton, Gayle Sobotka, Robynne Davis, and Caryl Hardt; also one very important great niece, Cadence Luckie; and one very important great nephew, Dillon Sobotka. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Harold E. "Red" Harnish, Sr., 93, passed away on April 20, 2007. Red was born in Speer, WY on February 6, 1914 to George and Addie (Baker) Harnish. He married Ruth W. Mitchell on January 26, 1938 in Clearmont, WY. They were married 62 years when Ruth passed away April 1, 2002. Red worked in many capacities in his lifetime as a rancher, farmer, and retired from Safeway Stores as assistant manager in 1977. He and Ruth moved to Queen Valley, AZ and returned to Sheridan in 1997. Red had many passions, the foremost being gardening, he was known for the produce he supplied to relatives and friends. He enjoyed the outdoors and passed that on to his children and grandchildren. He loved to hunt, fish, and sightseeing for pleasure. He was an avid bowler and after retirement took up golf. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth; and two brothers, Leroy and George. He is survived by a sister, Louella Worthington; four sons, Harold E. Jr. (Donna), Bernard (Alice), Kerry (Carol), and Bill (Janice). Red had numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. (“Skeeter”) Johnston, III Skeeter Johnston died on April 6 in Delray Medical Center in Delray Beach, Florida. His death resulted from head injuries sustained during a polo match on April 4 at his Everglades Polo Facility in Wellington, Florida, when his horse fell with him during play. This game was preparation for his team’s participation in the 2007 United States Open Polo Tournament at the International Polo Club in Wellington. The family’s homes are in Palm Beach, Florida and Big Horn, Wyoming. He is survived by his wife, Leslie Buttram Johnston and daughter Louisa; Mr. and Mrs. Summerfield K. Johnston Jr; sisters Katherine Johnston Tudor, Lavinia Johnston, Gillian Johnston; brother Robert Johnston and his nieces and nephews. Skeeter was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on January 8, 1954. He graduated from Bright School grammar school and Baylor School in Chattanooga, and from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. In 1997, he joined the family’s Johnston Coca-Cola Bottling Group, Inc. He served in several management positions including President of the company’s food and restaurant division and of its Australian subsidiary, WinPac Ltd; He was President of the Group’s Coca-Cola Bottling Company Northwest in Minneapolis, Minnesota and of Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Cleveland, Tennessee. Following the merger of Johnston Coca-Cola Bottling Group with Coca-Cola Enterprises, Inc, in 1991, he held a number of executive positions at CCE including Vice President- Human Resources; Senior Vice President and President of the Eastern North American Group, responsible for bottling operations in the eastern United States; and Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy and Business Development Officer. He retired from Coca-Cola Enterprises in February 2004, and has served as a member of the board of directors of Coca-Cola Enterprises since 2004. Coca-Cola Enterprises is the largest bottler and distributor of Coca-Cola products in the world. He is also Chairman of the Krystal Company, which operates quick-serve restaurants throughout the southeastern United States; and a member of the Board of Directors of SunTrust Bank of Chattanooga, N.A.; MetalTek International, Inc, a specialty metal casting company; Southern Screens Entertainment LLC, which conducts real estate development and operates multi-screen cinema houses in Argentina; eSkye Solutions, Inc, a distributor of channel management software; and the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. The notable attribute of his private life was his devotion to all his family members and his involvement with and commitment to each of them. He loved hunting and fishing, both of which he pursued with professionalism and skill throughout the world. He was an outstanding amateur player and leader in the sport of polo in the United States. He was a Governor-at-large of the United States Polo Association and co- founder of the North American Polo League. He was Captain of his teams that won the $100,000 Gold Cup, a 26 goal tournament, in 1988; the Cartier International Open, in 1982; the USPA Heritage Cup twice; and the 2003 Hall of Fame Cup. His teams were three times runner up in the United States Open Polo Tournament. Skeeter’s family suggests that memorials for his life be sent to the Jennifer Anne Jordan, age 25, of Casper, WY died in an automobile accident on Saturday, April 6, 2007. Jennifer was born March 23, 1982 in Sheridan, WY to Larry and Carla Blakeman. Jennifer spent all of her childhood years in Sheridan and graduated from Sheridan High School with the Class of 2000. Jennifer married in 2003 and had two beautiful children. Jennifer had a passion for helping others in need, and so in 2006 she obtained her C.N.A degree from Sheridan College. Shortly after she moved to Midwest, WY where she pursued training to be a first responder. She then went to work at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper WY. Jennifer is survived by her children Sondra and JD; mother Carla Harvey of Sheridan; father Larry Blakeman of Sheridan; sister April Carlton of Marshall, MI: brother Christopher Harvey of Sheridan; grandparents Bob and Edith Blakeman of Sheridan and Beverly Allen of Lingle, WY; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Kobielusz, 89, of Sheridan, passed away at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County on Monday, April 2, 2007. John was born on January 26, 1918, in Sheridan, Wyoming, to John L. Kobielusz and Anna (Rucki) Kobielusz. On June 27, 1944, John married Marie Schwabaur and to this union two children were born John volunteered for the Air Force in 1940, and served as a guard in Germany. He was discharged on December 5, 1945. John spent his life ranching and as a sheep herder. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Joe and Frank; and he is survived his wife of 62 years, Marie, his son John (Connie) and his daughter Shirley (Les) Schuman. Larsen, 76, of Dayton, WY, died Thursday, April 27, 2007 at his residence. Mr. Larsen was born December 16, 1930 in Pine County, Minnesota to Oscar and Anna Louise (Steinmetz) Larsen. He grew up and attended schools in Pine County before entering the U. S. Army. He served in Germany and two combat tours in Korea. After the service, Mr. Larsen was a self employed truck driver and master mechanic, traveling all over the United States. Mr. Larsen retired to the Sheridan-Dayton area where he resided for the last 20 years. Mr. Larsen was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sons who died in Viet Nam; and one granddaughter. Mr. Larsen is survived by one son, Dennis Larsen, of Aurora, CO; and two brothers, Jerry Larsen, of Thompson Falls, MT, and Larry Larsen, of Lake Havasu City, AZ. Lloyd Long, 89, of Sheridan, passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2007, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Lloyd was born October 31, 1917, in Glenwood, IA to Leonard and Fern (Teatsworth) Long. He graduated from high school in 1937. He enlisted in the Army and served from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946. Lloyd married Marjorie Mills in Buffalo, WY on September 24, 1962. He enjoyed spending time on the mountain hiking, fishing, and camping. He was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed gardening. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents. His wife, Marjorie, succumbed the same day he did. He is survived by his children, Nancy Cook of Sheridan, Gary Long of Tucson, AZ, and Mike Long of Selma, AL; and his seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Kenneth Ronald Pederson, Sr., 67, went to be with his savior Friday morning, April 27, 2007. Kenneth was born May 26, 1939 in Arnegard, ND. His parents are Clifford and Pauline Pederson (Torstenson). He was in the US Army and the National Guard, Army Reserves. He married Della Volk on June 30, 1962 in Fulda, Pierce County, North Dakota. Kenneth enjoyed spending time on the family farm, collecting antique tractors, doing carpentry work, and playing dominos. He loved time spent with his family and loved to joke with people. Kenneth always had a joke or two to tell. Kenneth was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Pederson; his brothers, Dennis and Allen Pederson; and a grandson, Allen O’Dell. Ray, age 92, of Sheridan, WY died Sunday, April 1, 2007, in Westview Health Care Center, Sheridan. Marjorie was born February 20, 1915, in York, Nebraska, to John & Martha (Brown) Roberts. Marjorie came to Wyoming as a young child and grew up in the Sinclair and Rawlins area. She married Darrel Ray on December 14, 1934, in Nebraska. They lived near Thermopolis and Cody before coming to Dayton, WY in 1961. She operated her own restaurant until she moved to Denver and operated an apartment house. Mr. Ray died in 1970. She returned to Sheridan area and worked at the PK Ranch until she moved to Gates’ Big Creek Ranch near Encampment, WY. She worked there until she retired and moved to Casper, WY. Marjorie returned to Sheridan in 1980. Marjorie loved to fish, go to the mountains and play games with her grandchildren. Marjorie was also preceded in death by a sister Matilda; brothers Tom and Dave; one grandson and one great grandson. Ridge Rd., Sheridan, WY 82801 Robert Reed, 53, of Sheridan, WY, died Tuesday, April 24, 2007 in Sheridan Memorial Hospital Robert was born March 18, 1954 in Sheridan, WY to Louis C. Reed, Jr., and Ethel (Sams) Reed. Robert attended Sheridan schools until he was 16 years old. He then moved to Rapid City, SD, and attended at the Black Hills Workshop. While there he learned many skills. He worked in a local grocery store, worked at Ellsworth Air Force Base as a janitor, and participated in the operation of a sawmill. He spent some time in Newell, SD, on a farm and truly loved the animals. He even learned to run a bobcat while working at the farm. Rob liked living in the Black Hills and even survived the well-known Rapid City flood. Robert loved country western music with Hank William’s “Hey, Good Lookin’” being one of his favorites. He also had a wonderful collection of General George Custer memorabilia. During his time in Rapid City, he was very involved in Special Olympics. He won four medals during this time, one of which was a State Medal for Excellence in swimming. The Dallas Cowboys were his favorite football team. He was able to travel to Dallas, TX, four times to see his team play. He also traveled to Hawaii to watch the Pro Bowl, and to Minnesota to watch the Minnesota Twins play. Several years ago his health started to fail and he returned to Sheridan, WY where he participated in several programs at RENEW. Rob was a very kind person, and touched many lives. He will be sadly missed. Rob was preceded in death by his father. Connor St., Sheridan, WY 82801 Milton Sherman, 91, of Sheridan, passed away on April 1, 2007, at Sheridan Manor. He was born on June 5, 1915, in Rochester, New York. On July 27, 1940, he married Edith Carder Arnold. They moved to Florida where Milt grew flowers and developed a precision aluminum manufacturing business. After selling his company, Milt and Edie moved to Sheridan in 1964. Milt served terms as President of the Sheridan Country Club and of Rotary, and he was a fundraiser for the YMCA. He is survived by his wife Edie, his sons Tom (Judy) of Wyandotte, Michigan, and Mike (Darlene Reiter) of Sheridan, his sister-in-law Rita Deur, eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Services are scheduled for Monday, April 9, 2007, at 10:00 am at Holy Name Church with Father Ron Stolcis officiating. Harley F. “Shorty” Smith, 91, of Story, WY, died Wednesday, April 25, 2007 in Johnson County Healthcare Center. Mr. Smith was born April 19, 1916 in Story, WY to Barney C. and Frances (Leitner) Smith. He grew up and attended school in Story and worked on his father’s ranch. “Shorty” tended bar at Kelley’s Bar in Story before going into the Army at the start of W. W. II. While in the service, he was stationed in the Aleutian Islands at Dutch Harbor, and in Europe. After the service, Mr. Smith joined the civil service working at the North Island Naval Station at San Diego, CA for 28 years, retiring in 1973. Upon his retirement, “Shorty” returned to Story and bartended at the Wagon Box. “Shorty” was a life member of the Sheridan Elk’s Lodge #520, past member of the Eagle’s Lodge #186, enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards at the Elk’s, and dancing. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty, in 1989; one daughter; 8 brothers; and 1 sister. He is survived by one stepson, Mike Matto, of Buffalo, WY; one stepdaughter, Marilyn Potts, of Buffalo, WY; one sister-in-law; one brother-in-law; numerous step-grandchildren; and 13 nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sutley was born February 9, 1911 in Orion, Illinois to Alfred and Anna (Svenson) Bohman. She grew up and attended schools in Orion and graduated from Orion High School in 1928. Mrs. Sutley attended nurse’s training at the Lutheran Hospital in Moline, IL in 1938. Mildred married William H. Sutley May 10, 1946 in the Orion Baptist Church in Orion. She was employed the mortuary business with her husband for 40 years, owning and operating funeral homes in Wyanet, IL for 20 years, and Torrington , WY for 18 years before retiring in 1986. The couple moved to Sheridan, WY in 1989. Mrs. Sutley was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star since 1942, the V. F. W. Auxiliary since 1946, the American Legion Auxiliary since 1948, and the First United Church of Christ in Torrington, WY. She enjoyed housekeeping, Swedish cooking, making wall pictures with sequins of birds, watching wildlife and growing indoor flowers. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; 6 brothers; and 5 sisters. She is survived by her husband, Bill, of Sheridan, WY; one son, Harry Dean Sutley, of Eureka, MT; four grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one nephew; and 3 nieces. Ronald was born in Russell, KS to Allan and Loretta (Gaskill) on October 10, 1946. He graduated from Central High School in Aurora, CO. Ronald married Gwen Moore on February 10, 1988 in Manzanillo, Mexico. He enjoyed his job at Abbey Carpet and meeting people. He loved hunting, working on cars, fishing, and his two labradors, Raven and Tia. He also loved the Sheridan community. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Gwen of Sheridan; his daughter, Shalimar Jarrell of Denver, CO; his sons, Corbin Vogt and Talbot Vogt both of Denver, CO; his nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and his sister Debra Bullard of Lakewood, CO. Cremation has taken place. Kane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made in Ronald’s name to the Hospice of the Big Horns, 1401 W. 5th, Sheridan, WY 82801. Robert C. Zingg, 76, of Sheridan, WY, died Thursday, April 12, 2007 in the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, WY. Mr. Zingg was born August 12, 1930 in Sheridan, WY to Herbert R. and Madge (Son) Zingg. Mr. Zingg enjoyed a variety of working experiences, growing up on a ranch southeast of Clearmont, WY, and attending schools in Clearmont. As a very young man, he was always working. One experience particularly comes to mind. He did janitorial work for the church in Clearmont. They told him he would have to have the church warm for the services on Sunday. So he got up early and really stoked the fire good. Later he saw the windows all open in the church. He asked them later if it was warm enough and she said “Yes, Bobby, it was a might too warm!” He worked for the government on the Powder River dam project driving bus. His first job when he came to Sheridan was working for Hank Frickey of Frickey’s Heating & Air Conditioning. He later worked with Jess Sanders in local construction and Husman Construction building the Upton School. His son Robert Luther was born when they lived in Upton. Later, Mr. Zingg leased a farm out on Soldier Creek while he worked for the contractor who did the curb and gutter for Fifth Street up to the new Hospital. When jobs were scarce in Sheridan, he spent two seasons at the sugar beet factory in Hardin, Montana. Daughter, Diana Evelyn was born shortly after his job was finished there. He worked on various construction jobs including school in Buffalo and school in Basin, Wyoming. Mr. Zingg then worked for Vince Johnston of ABC Builders, approximately 10 years, learning the trade, particularly the art of cabinetry. He enjoyed the construction field so much, that in 1965 he went out on his own, operating Robert Zingg-Builder, where he built many houses for HUD, offering a hand up for first time home buyers on a limited income. They were able to buy a three-bedroom home for $200 down and assistance on the interest as needed. He received special recognition for bringing FHA to Sheridan. He and his wife, Grace, worked together, designing, building an selling a variety of homes in the Sheridan area that are still visible today. Mr. Zingg married Grace Smith on December 24, 1949, in Sheridan. Mr. Zingg retired in 1979, maintaining several business interests in the Sheridan community. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, R-Ving, and spending their winters in Yuma, Arizona.
