Letters: KYTI
KYTI started life on September 15, 1978 as KLWD, a sister station of KWYO-AM, owned by William R. Sims' WYCOM Corp. The station broadcast to the city of Sheridan at 96.5 MHz from a 10,000 watt transmitter located at the KWYO site. KLWD had several music formats over the years, ranging from light/soft rock, to hard rock, to adult contemporary to oldies.
In January, 1981, both KWYO AM and FM were purchased by Community Media, Inc., the pricipals of which were U.S. Senator Malcolm Wallop of Big Horn, WY, Stanley Huckaby of Austin, TX, David Palmerlee of Buffalo, WY and Donald Hargis of Sheridan, WY. In the early 90's KLWD was a completely automated oldies station, playing music from computer-controlled reel-to-reel tape machines. One of the highlights of KLWD's programming was the satellite-delivered live oldies request show, "Solid Gold Saturday Night." During that decade, the station was renamed KWYO-FM.
In 1997, the station was sold to Kim Love. As part of Mr. Love's Sheridan Media group, the station moved to 93.7FM, increased power to 75,000 watts with a new transmitter site on top of the Big Horn mountains, was given the new call letters of KYTI, and became NorthEast Wyoming's station for "Your Kinda' Country," playing a mix of 90's and new country hits. Today, KYTI features the local, live "Kurt Layher Morning Show," the Saturday Morning American Country Countdown and Rise Up on Sunday Mornings, making 93.7 the Coyote Number One for Today's Country and All Time Legends!.
