KZWY began life
as KROE-FM, a sister station to KROE-AM,
signing on the air for the first time on December 5th, 1977. KROE, 94.9FM
was Sheridan's first FM station, and catered to a younger audience,
with a mix of hard and soft rock. The station's 20,000 watt transmitter
was located in the new KROE building and broadcast to the city of Sheridan
from the KROE tower. From the beginning, the station used state-of-the-art
automation equipment to bring an entertaining, up-beat and listenable
station to Sheridan, while still being an efficient part of Kim
Love's Lovcom, Inc.
KZWY
studio in the late 90's |
In the late 80's
and early to mid 90's, KROE-FM's programming was satellite-based adult
contemporary music. Responding to local demand, the station switched
to a more rock-based format in the later part of that decade. In 1997,
as part of the addition of KWYO's FM station
to the group, KROE-FM was given a new identity as KZWY, and the music
format was solidified as "Rock and Roll from Yesterday and Today."
A new transmitter location on top of the Big Horn mountains, and a power
increase to 75,000 watts allowed listeners from outside of Sheridan
to enjoy the new Z94FM.

The programming
on Z94FM is music intensive, focusing on Classic Rock hits from the
late 60's through new rock from today's hottest new groups. We
are Sheridan's only completely local FM station, locally owned, operated
and programmed with local announcers on the air every hour of every
day! Click on a DJ's picture above for more info or to send an email.
