Benjamin Fowler Anderson, 58, died from cancer on July 23, 2006.

Ben was born on July 19, 1948, in Sheridan, to John G. and Tooney Anderson.

Ben was preceded in death by his wife Vivian Bohlin, by his parents, and his brother Henry.

Ben lived all his life in the Sheridan area. He is survived by his sister Richmond and brothers Lawrence, John, Martin and Lincoln.

In accordance with his wishes, no services are planned; he requested that those of you who wish to remember him do so in whatever manner you feel best.
Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.


Edna Irene "Pinky" Brimmer, 86, of Sheridan, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at Westview Health Care Center.

Edna was born to William Henry and Ellen (Kelly) Thorn on April 19, 1920, in Sundance, Wyoming. She married Wiley Brimmer on March 12, 1938 in Deadwood, South Dakota. Edna worked as a nursing instructor for most of her life. She enjoyed horseback riding, fishing and most outdoor activities.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley, her parents; a son, Tim Brimmer; one brother, Theodore Thorn; and one sister, Helen Hulsinger. She is survived by her children, Judy Pehringer and David Brimmer, both of Sheridan; and her seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and no services are scheduled at this time. Kane Funeral Home is handling local arrangements.


Frances Donnafield, 78, of Sheridan, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2006 at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Frances was born on November 28, 1928 in Fromberg, Montana, to John and Lena (Haman) Schleining. She married Urbin Donnafield in Hardin, Montana on December 13, 1947. Frances enjoyed gardening, fishing, and she loved the wildlife. She was an avid Broncos fan. Frances received her nursing degree from the Deaconess School of Nursing at MSU, and she was a registered nurse at the Veterans Administration Hospital for 20 years.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, John Schleining. She is survived by her husband, Urbin Donnafield of Sheridan; her daughters, Louise Ann Bard of Sheridan and Kathleen Lee Donnafield of Denver, Colorado, and her son Urbin Roy Donnafield of Sheridan, her grandchildren, Lisa Bard, Bryan Donnafield, Urbin G. Donnafield, and John T. Donnafield, and one great grandchild, Christopher Norbury. Also surviving is one sister, Betsy Schleining and a brother, James Schleining.

A visitation will be held at Kane Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, July 19, 2006. Funeral services will be held at Kane Funeral Home on Thursday, July 20, 2006 at 10:00 am with Pastor Tim Charles officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements


Kenneth Higgins, 83, of Sheridan, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2006 at Westview Health Care Center.

Kenneth was born on July 7, 1924 in Watertown, SD to Ben and Margaret (O’Brien) Higgins. He attended schools in Watertown. Kenneth graduated from Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD with his teaching degree. He taught English in Hot Springs and Huron, SD and Rawlins and Rock Springs, WY. Kenneth enlisted in the Navy where he served in WWII and Korea before his honorable discharge. He moved to Sheridan in 1990 and worked for the Salvation Army, Burger King, and various other senior employment. Kenneth was a volunteer at the VA Medical Center for many years and was a friend of Bill W. for fourteen years. He enjoyed old movies, picnics, the mountains, playing bingo, spending time with his family and friends.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Maxine. He is survived by his numerous friends.

Cremation has taken place and at Kenneth’s request no services are scheduled. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements


Catherine Hurst, 73, of Sheridan, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2006 at Westview Health Care Center.

Catherine was born to Walter and Grace (Riches) Williams on March 13, 1933 in Somerset, PA. She graduated from Rawlins High School in 1951. She married Leonard Hurst in Sinclair, WY on May 19, 1952. Catherine enjoyed crocheting, painting ceramics, and she was an avid reader. She was a member of the Presbyterian Women, the Red Hat Society, Jeans and Queens Square Dancing Club, and she also cooked for the Lunch Together Program. She was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, and she was a member of Founding Board for Sheridan’s first daycare center now known as the Child Care Center. She was a bookkeeper for the Sheridan Center for twenty years, but more importantly she was a wife and mother.

Catherine was preceded in death by her father; mother-in-law, Esther Freeman; brother-in-law, Jerry Campbell; and one niece and one nephew. She is survived by her husband, Leonard Hurst of Sheridan; her daughter, Dannon Bury of Abington, Maryland; three sons, John Hurst of Austin, Texas, Timothy Hurst of Craig, Colorado, and David Hurst of Cheyenne, Wyoming; her seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; her mother, Grace Williams; her brothers, James Williams of Dayton, Ohio, Jack Williams of Rawlins, Wyoming; her sisters Frances Campbell of Buffalo, Wyoming, and Susan Pixler of Rawlins, Wyoming; and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, July 22, 2006, at 10:00 am with Reverend Brian Johnson officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Memorial’s may be made in Catherine’s name to the Music Ministry Program at the First Presbyterian Church, 2121 Colonial Dr, Sheridan, WY 82801.


Reine S. Johnson

Longtime Sheridan resident, Reine S. Johnson, age 81, passed away on July 31, 2006, at Sheridan Manor.

Reine was born on February 5, 1925, in Franconville, France, to Gustave Eugene and Mina (Aberle) Alix. She was raised and attended school in Franconville, until her wartime marriage, at which time she moved to Sheridan.  Her marriage was blessed with a son, but the couple later divorced.  Ms. Johnson worked as a waitress, and later as a meter maid for the City of Sheridan.  In recent years, she was looked after by her long time caring friend, Jerry Spencer.

Ms. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents.  She is survived by her son Dan of Tempe, Arizona; her granddaughter Christine Vine and her husband of Denver, Colorado; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Brittney Vine, also of Denver.

Private family services will be held with inurnment of cremains with her family in France.  Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

The family has requested memorials be sent to the Leonard Kimmel Memorial Fund, in care of Tara Keep, First Federal Savings Bank, PO Box 6007, Sheridan, WY  82801.

 


Albert Kurpjuweit, 72, of Sheridan, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2006, at his residence.

Albert was born in Brewster, NE on March 9, 1934 to Albert and Ida (White) Kurpjuweit. He graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1952. Albert then enlisted in the Navy in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1963. He married Katherine Adsit in Sheridan in 1995. He was a member of the Elks Club and the American Legion. He enjoyed Western history and fishing.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, a daughter and his wife, Sally. He is survived by his daughter; Thea Adamo of Wheatland, WY, his son, Brad Kurpjuweit of Stanton, CA and his daughter Trisha Sanzari of Riverside, CA; his 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandsons; and his brothers Melvin Kurpjuweit of Lincoln, NE, Wayne Kurpjuweit of Sheridan and James Kurpjuweit of Seattle, WA.

At Albert’s request, cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at Kane Funeral Home on August 5, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Steve Anderson officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements.


Ed Livingston - Based on his personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior, Ed Livingston passed from this lifelong earthly home in Sheridan, Wyoming, to his Heavenly home with God on July 16, 2006.

Ed was born on April 30, 1939, in Sheridan, Wyoming to Amil and Lorraine (Browne) Livingston.  He was a lifelong resident of Sheridan and graduated from Sheridan High School and Sheridan College.  He also attended the University of Wyoming and Moody Bible Institute.  Ed married Nancy J. Ralston in Sheridan on September 30, 1972, and the couple made their home in Sheridan, raising their three children here.  During his working years, Ed operated E K Williams Accounting and worked in the family-owned businesses operating a salvage yard, working in automobile sales, and Gasamat.  He now was the sales representative for the National Association of the Self-Employed.

Ed was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Sheridan, and at the time of his death, he was serving as an elder in the church, and he was a member of the Wyoming Republican Party.  He was also a former member of the Jaycees, the All-American Indian Days, and a past Sheridan County School District 2 Board Member.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, and opera music, but his greatest joy was furthering the Kingdom of the Lord Jesus by his life and acts of service to and for the community.

Mr. Livingston was preceded in death by his mother Lorraine Livingston.  He is survived by his wife Nancy of Sheridan; son Jamie and wife Cindy of Sheridan; two daughters, Ruthie Andrews and husband Lou of Saint Louis, Missouri, and Rachel Borgialli and husband Dave of Sheridan; father Amil Livingston of Sheridan; brother Jack Livingston and wife Karen of Sheridan; two sisters, Hazel Richards and husband Gary, and Louise Knievel and husband Don, all of Sheridan; five step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with Gary Kopsa officiating.   Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on August 3rd from First Baptist Church.

Burt Allen Purcella, 68, of Sheridan, WY, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at his residence.

Mr. Purcella was born July 23, 1938 in Lincoln, NM to George W. and Millicent (Rue) Purcella.  He grew up and attended school in Roswell, NM, graduated from Roswell High School, and attended the University of Wyoming.

Mr. Purcella was co-owner and builder of Stor-A-Way in Buffalo, WY and El Dorado Storage in Sheridan, WY.  As a young man, Burt worked as a surveyor in the oil and gas fields.  He built nursing homes working for Village Estates.  He spent many years as a Journeyman Ironworker.  Burt worked on the missile sites in Wyoming, Nebraska, and in both North and South Dakota.  He worked in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska and helped build the Alaskan pipeline.  Burt also worked on many of the coal power plants in Wyoming, Colorado, and Montana.  Burt also worked for a time in Arizona installing wrought iron for his son’s company.

Burt was a former mason, and was a member of Ironworkers Local #454.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son and grandsons.  Burt also enjoyed getting involved with Norwegian Fjord horses and driving his team in the parades, at Christmas, and in the draft horse competitions.

Burt was preceded in death by his father, George W. Purcella.

Burt is survived by his mother, Millicent Purcella, of Roswell, NM; his wife, Cynthia, of Sheridan, WY; one son, Brandon Allen Purcella, (Dallas), of Casa Grande, AZ; one step-son, Michael Kobielusz, of Sheridan, WY; one daughter, JuLynn Purcella Jones, of Roswell, NM; one step-daughter, Kara Kobielusz, of Sheridan, WY; one brother, Harvey Purcella, of Sheridan, WY; on sister, Georgia Kendall, of Roswell, NM; 5 grandchildren, Sherrie Steely,(Lance Corporal Casey Steely), of Twenty Nine Palms, CA, Hardt, Ridge, and Kane Purcella, all of Casa Grande, AZ, and Jordan Kobielusz, of Gillette, WY.

Visitation for Mr. Purcella will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday, July 28, 2006 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor Tony Forman officiating.  Interment will be in the Willow Grove Cemetery in Buffalo, WY with military rites by the American Legion.  Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Mary E. Sweem, 69, of Sheridan, WY, died Thursday, July 20, at her residence.

Mrs. Sweem was born October 26, 1936 in Kleenburn, WY to George and Lena (Legerski) Jensik, Sr.  She grew up and attended the Monarch School in Monarch, WY, and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1954.  Mary enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps in January of 1955, and was honorably discharged in December of 1956.

Mrs. Sweem married Bill Jennings Sweem November 12, 1959 in Sheridan, WY.  She was primarily a homemaker, but also worked at Woolworth’s, Boyd's Super Market, and K-mart in Sheridan at various times.

Mary was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and the American Legion.  She enjoyed reading, working jigsaw puzzles, playing Bingo around Sheridan, going to Deadwood with her friends, and especially loved gardening and her Dachshund dogs.

Mrs. Sweem was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill, and one sister.

She is survived by one son, Bill M. Sweem, of Sheridan, WY; one brother, George Jensik, Jr., of Sheridan, WY; three sisters, Wilma Meryhew, of
Sheridan, WY, Betty Bell, of Bonners Ferry, ID, and Margaret Boaz, of Portland, OR; and 2 grandchildren.

Funeral service for Mrs. Sweem will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, July 27, 2006 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Father Ronald Stolcis officiating.  Interment will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with military honors by the Wyoming National Guard and the American Legion Post #7.  Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.


Eric E. Troutt, 41, of Sheridan, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2006, at Westview Health Care Center.

Eric was born June 26, 1965, in Sheridan to Kenneth and Iona (Anderson) Troutt. He was a graduate of Sheridan High School. Eric worked in a variety of different vocations from managing a gold mining plant to automobile body work. He enjoyed rebuilding older 4X4 pick up trucks.

Eric was preceded in death by his mother, Iona Troutt; an infant brother, Kelly Troutt. He is survived by his father, Kenneth Troutt; and his two brothers, Kim Troutt and Kirby Troutt.

Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at a later date. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements


Anne M. Williams, 71, of Big Horn, WY, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006 in Sheridan Manor.

Mrs. Williams was born March 17, 1935 in St. Louis, MO to John and  Cornelia (Wheaton) McMillan.  She grew up in St. Louis, MO where she attended Mary Institute.  She graduated from Westover School in Middleberry, CN., and then attended Colorado A & M, now Colorado State in Fort Collins, CO before moving to Sheridan in 1955.  The McMillan family started coming to Eaton’s Ranch in 1947 until her father’s death.

On June 22, 1956, Anne married Gene Williams at the Beaver Creek Ranch.   The couple remained on the ranch until they moved to Big Horn in 1981.  They moved to the Powder Horn 1999.  They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this June. 

Anne enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, cooking, entertaining and loved to swim.  She especially enjoyed gardening, her flowers, and working in her yard.  She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Sheridan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 daughter, and 1 son.

Anne is survived by her husband, Gene, of Big Horn, WY; one son, Stan Williams, of Big Horn, WY; three daughters, Sharon Kobold, of Big Horn, WY, Becky Milobar, of Surprise, AZ, and Laura Duran, of Glenrock, WY; one brother, John S. McMillan, of Maryland Heights, MD; 8 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.

Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 31, 2006 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. David Duprey officiating.  Interment will be in the Elk’s Section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Memorials in memory of Mrs. Williams may be made to the Big Horn Lion’s Club.


Barbara R. Willms, 83, of Sheridan, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2006 at Westview Health Care Center.

Barbara was born on August 23, 1922 in Springfield, MA to Raymond and Emma (Johnson) Wade. She married Alfred Green and the couple had three children together. He passed away in 1974. Barbara worked as a secretary at the V. A. Medical Center for many years. Later she married Emil Willms who also preceded her in death. She enjoyed quilting, photography, camping and being a member of the Sourdough R.V. Club.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; and her two husbands. She is survived by her daughters, Marcia Suranyi and Janice Green both of Sheridan; her son, J. Robert Green and his wife Teresia of Loyalton, CA; her three grandchildren, Brandy McKinley and Jamie Leupold and her husband George both of Sheridan and Dani Green of Billings, MT and her three great-grandchildren; her sister, Marion Stockwell of Natick, MA; and her longtime friend and companion, Chuck Mitchell.

Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at Kane Funeral Home on Friday, July 21, 2006 at 10:00 am with Pastor Doug Goodwin officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers memorial’s may be made in Barbara’s name to the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library in care of Tara Keep, First Federal Savings Bank, PO Box 6007, Sheridan, WY 82801.
