Eva Mae Benson, 87, of Sheridan, WY, died Sunday, March 26, 2006 at Sheridan Manor. Mrs. Benson was born July 8, 1918 in Lock Haven, Penn. to Harry J. and Linetta (Beck) Ryan. She grew up and attended schools in Penn, and attended Temple University in Philadelphia. Mrs. Benson married Charles C. Benson in 1939 in Penn. They lived in Florida, Washington D. C., St. Louis, Kansas City, Overland Park, Kansas, Akron, Ohio, & Albuquerque, NM before moving to Sheridan in 1998. Mrs. Benson enjoyed painting and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 5 brothers, and 3 sisters. Eva is survived by one son, Charles Benson, of Big Horn, WY; two brothers, Leo Ryan, of Albuquerque, NM, and Mark Ryan, of Jersey Shore, Penn; one sister, Rose Barrett, of Lock Haven, Penn.; 2 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. No services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Robert T. Carson, 80, of Sheridan, WY, died Friday, March 17, 2006 in Sheridan Memorial Hospital of a massive heart attack. Mr. Carson was born March 14, 1926 in Hutchinson, KS to Theodore and Doris (Troy) Carson. He grew up and attended schools in Hutchinson, and enlisted in the U. S. Navy on April 22, 1944. He served on the USS Shamrock Bay and was honorably discharged on March 23, 1946. Mr. Carson returned to Kansas where he went to work in the oil fields, and worked in several states following the oilrigs, eventually coming to Gillette, WY where he became known as “Bullet Bob.” Bob married Frances Weltner July 14, 1960 in Sheridan, WY. The couple moved to Gillette where they owned a mobile home court, a motel, and an apartment house. Bob and Frances also owned the Camel Drilling Company in Gillette. Mrs. Carson’s parents owned the Weltner Wonder Museum in Hardin, MT which Bob and Frances moved to Gillette. The couple moved to Sheridan in 1977, where they lived on a ranch on Big Goose Road. Bob started restoring antique and classic automobiles in 1969, and continued doing so until the time of his death. He sold these cars all over the world. During this period he became known as “Buick Bob.” Bob was a member of the V. F. W., and also belonged to several antique car clubs in Sheridan. He was a pilot and enjoyed flying, riding horses, enjoyed spending time in the mountains, but most of all, he loved to work. He was known as a “workaholic.” Mr. Carson was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers; and one grandson. Bob is survived by his wife, Frances, of Sheridan, WY; three sons, Gary Carson, (Carole), and Bill Carson, (Tina), both of Gillette, WY, and Fred Stetz, (Ngoc), of Casper, WY; one daughter, Shirley Donaldson, (Floyd), of Rozet, WY; three sisters, Midge and Marge, both of Kansas; and Diana, of Alabama; 17 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; and 8 great, great grandchildren. Visitation for Mr. Carson will be from 10:00 A. M. to 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 22 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Johnson officiating. Memorials in memory of Mr. Carson may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Nicolas Sorenhauk Martin, 1 year of age, died Thursday, March 9, 2006 in Denver, CO. Nicolas was born January 26, 2005 in Sheridan, WY to Riley J. Martin and Peggy Ann Kaupang. Nicolas is survived by his parents of Sheridan, WY; one sister, Sydney Ann Kaupang-Kinter, of Sheridan, WY; his paternal grandparents, Patty Martin, of Sheridan, WY, and Dick and Carol Martin, of Cheyenne, WY; his maternal grandmother, Laurie Kaupang, of Sheridan, WY; his great grandmothers; aunts; uncles; and cousins. He enjoyed burning time romping around with his big sister, “talking” on the phone, and hunting for chuckles. Although he was clearly taken away far too early, we were blessed in those few months with a lifetime of memories. The joy his mere presence brought will be forever peerless to the close ones in his pack. Visitation for Nicolas will be from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Duane H. Powers, age 53, of Sheridan, WY died Sunday, March 26, 2006, at his Sheridan home. Duane was born June 22, 1952, in Sheridan to Gerald & Geneva (Goodwin) Powers. Duane grew up in the Quietus and Sayle area of Montana. He attended a one-room elementary school on Bear Creek and graduated from high school in 1970. He also attended Sheridan College. Duane worked on the family ranches in Montana and Wyoming. He took care of the family Red Angus and Hereford cattle herd as well as irrigating and putting up hay. Duane owned and operated Sheridan Air Service for a time. He also owned and operated Powers Construction and was an excellent backhoe operator. Duane married Betty L. Mitchell at Jinx Cotton’s cabin in the Big Horn Mountains on June, 2002. Duane enjoyed snowmobiling, four-wheeling, making pole furniture, going to his cabin, collecting toy tractors and square dancing. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Land Development Contractors of Am., Snomads, Jeans & Queens square dancing club and leader of 4H. Duane was a past member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Assn. and Sheridan Area Search and Rescue. His father preceded Duane in death. Duane is survived by his wife Betty Mitchell of Sheridan; sons Gerald and David Powers of Sheridan; mother Geneva Powers of Sheridan and sister Susan Beasley of Sheridan. Memorial service will be 1:30pm on Friday (Mar. 31st) from First United Methodist Church with the Rev.’s David Duprey and Dan Goodenough officiating. Stevie, age 89, of Sheridan, WY died Saturday, March 25, 2006, in Sheridan Manor. Marguerite was born June 21, 1916, in Sheridan to Richard & Ruth (Simons) Stevie. She grew up and graduated from high school in Sheridan. She worked as the Deputy Co. Treasurer for 45 years at the courthouse until she retired. Marguerite was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, gardening and going out for coffee. Marguerite loved being the grandmother of Ed & Brenda Knudson’s children. Marguerite is survived by her many friends and neighbors. Viewing will be on 9:00am until 4:00pm on Friday (Mar. 31st) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 1:00pm on Saturday from Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ronald Stolcis officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Shealie was born on December 23, 2005 in Sheridan, WY to Chris Thompson and Johnie Garner. Shealie brought sunshine and sweetness into the lives of all who knew and loved her. Her precious smiles and the sounds of her voice will forever be remembered and cherished by her family members and friends. Shealie was a precious baby girl with her own unique charm and personality. She will always be in the hearts of those who love her, though she has gone to get her Angel Wings. Shealie loved bath time, enjoyed listening to music, spending time with her older brother and sister and bringing happiness and smiles to the faces of her Mom and Dad and everyone who had the pleasure of spending time with her. Shealie was preceded in death by her grandfather, Bob Paterakis, her uncle, Adam Paterakis, two great grandfathers, Gordon Storck and John Bury, and a great uncle, John (Tookey) Bury. Shealie is survived by her parents, and her siblings Kolter and Kaycie Garner of Sheridan; her grandparents, Sheri Thompson, of Sheridan, Thomas Thompson and Cindy Goes, of Bennett, CO; Debbie Paterakis and John Holwegner of Sheridan, WY; three great grandmothers, Lois Bury of Sheridan, Hazel Storck of Laurel, MT, and Marlene King of Clearfield, Utah; two great grandfathers, Victor Paterakis, and Gary King, of Clearfield; two great uncles, Dennis Storck of Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela, and Jim Bury, of Sheridan; one great aunt, Suzanne Leonard, of Sheridan; her uncle, Kyle Thompson, of Byers, CO; and her favorite aunt, Bobbie Paterakis, of Sheridan. A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 20, 2006 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Miller officiating. Inurnment of cremains will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Brundage St., Sheridan, WY 82801 Christopher John Watson, was born August 10, 1979 and passed away at his residence on Tuesday, March 28, 2006. Chris was born to John Spencer Watson and Julia (Jones) Watson in Omak, Washington. He lived in Twisp, Washington until he was six years old and then the family moved to Custer, South Dakota where he attended grade school. In 1991 the family moved to Sheridan, Wyoming. Chris graduated from Sheridan High School in 1997. After graduation Chris worked in various labor jobs and most recently in the construction field and coal bed methane fields. Chris’ greatest joy was his children and he spent as much time as possible with them. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing and being outdoors with them. He was just like a kid himself when he played with Robert, Mollie, and William. He loved them very much and was so proud of them. Chris had recently started playing the guitar and was an aspiring musician. He also enjoyed working with computers. He had the best sense of humor and was extremely witty. His family often commented that he could be a great standup comedian because when Chris got started he kept them in tears with laughter. He was preceded in death be his two grandfathers and one great grandfather. Chris is survived by his children, Robert James Watson, Mollie Marie Watson, and William Spencer Watson, of Big Horn, WY; his mother and step-father, Julie and Ron Stellingwerf, of Sheridan, WY; his father, Spence Watson, of the Philippines; two sisters, Kacee Mansfield, (John), of Fountain, CO, and Jenny Watson, of Colorado Springs, CO; two step-brothers, Kenneth Stellingwerf, of Laramie, WY, and Kevin Stellingwerf, of Sheridan, WY; his maternal grandmother, Patricia Jones, of Twisp, WA; his paternal grandparents, Doris McConnell, of Omak, WA, and John and Ruth Watson, of East Wenatchee, WA; one aunt, Jennifer Konard, (Dale), of Twisp, WA; five uncles, Dennis Jones, (Dawn), of Twisp, WA, Patrick Jones, of Stanwood, WA, Mark Watson, (Jean), of Omak, WA, Dirk Watson, (Cindy), of Omak, WA, and Sage Olson, of Billings, MT; and nieces and nephews, Brady, Brooke, Brittlee, Brianna, Daniel, and Riley. Memorials in memory of Christopher may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Winifred I. Woodhead, 86, of Sheridan, WY, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006 in Westview Health Care Center. Mrs. Woodhead was born October 20, 1919 in Sheridan, WY to Walter and Emma (Kulper) Harris. She grew up and attended schools in Sheridan and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1937. Winnie married William Woodhead on March 20, 1941 in Sheridan, and the couple lived and raised their family in Sheridan. Winnie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sheridan. She enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting, doing jigsaw puzzles, and playing games with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William; her parents; two sisters, Nellie Harris, and Naomi Bissell; and two brothers, Walt and Floyd Harris. Winnie is survived by two daughters, Sharon Leo, and husband, James, of Sheridan, WY; and Wanda Sloan, husband, Michael, of Cave Junction, OR; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 1 great, great granddaughter. Visitation for Winnie will be from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Saturday, March 25, 2006 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 25, 2006 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Interment will be in the Eagle’s Section of the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.
