Charles E. Buntjer, age 89, of Sheridan,
WY died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, in Westview Health Care Center, Sheridan Chuck was a law enforcement officer for the city of North Las Vegas, NV from 1969 –1987 and a bailiff for the municipal court. Chuck was Santa Clause for 16 years for the Jr. Chamber of Commerce of N. Las Vegas. He married Louise Belish on December 21, 1959. After retirement, they moved to Sheridan. Louise died in March, 2004. Chuck was a member of the Foot Printers Club, VFW and Drums & Bugle Club in Billings, MT. He loved horses, music, TV and rodeos. Chuck was also preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother. Chuck is survived by his daughter Susan Lefever of Gladstone, Michigan; step daughter Aldora McIntosh of Billings, MT; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. One Grandson, David Dickinson of Commerce City, Colorado Memorial service will be 10:00am on Wednesday (March 9th) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. William Heine officiating. Inurnment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Military honors by the American Legion and Wyoming National Guard. Memorials may benefit Immanuel Lutheran Church. Danny Ray Fauber, age 40, of Sheridan, WY died Sunday, March 12, 2005, in the emergency room of Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Danny was born September 15, 1964, in Sheridan to Stanley & Patricia (Whitehair) Fauber. Danny grew up and graduated high school in Sheridan. He married Connie Pehringer on November 17, 1984, in Sheridan. He worked on various ranches and at Sheridan Meat Co. until he went to work in the engineering dept. of Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County in 1989. He enjoyed snow machining, horseback riding and camping. He also enjoyed playing on softball and volleyball teams. He was a member of the Family Life Center Church. Danny is survived by his wife Connie; son Jesse Fauber of Bozeman, MT; daughter Kayla Fauber of Sheridan; parents Stanley & Patricia Fauber of Sheridan; and brothers Bradley, Michael, Joseph, Chad & Jeffrey Fauber all of Sheridan. Memorial service will be 10:00am on Wednesday (March 16th) from Family Life Center with the Rev. Doug Meacham officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Memorials may benefit the Danny Fauber’s Children’s Fund, in care of Karen Green, First Interstate Bank, Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801 Vincent Paul Johnston, 77, of Sheridan, WY, died Monday, March 21, 2005 in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Mr. Johnston was born May 31, 1927 in Denver, CO to Bert K. and Pauline (Snydal) Johnston. He grew up and attended school in Ranchester, WY, and graduated from Ranchester High School in 1944. After high school, Vince joined the Navy and was stationed in San Diego, CA. Upon his discharge from the service, he returned to WY and attended the University of Wyoming, graduating in 1949 with a Degree in Business Administration. Vince married Mary Jean Hill in 1949. Mr. Johnston moved to Laurel, MT where he went to work for Johnston Lumber Company for a short time. He then moved to Billings where he was a building contractor until 1955 when he moved to Sheridan. Vince started the A.B.C. Builders and the A.B.C. Realty Co. During his lifetime, he was involved in numerous business ventures, including developing several subdivisions, the Ranch House Restaurant in Ranchester, the Golden Steer in Sheridan. In addition, he was a mineral broker, and was still active in the business community at the time of his death. In 1968, Vince was the runner-up in the United States as the Small Business Owner of the Year. Mr. Johnston married Marjorie Redington in 1972. Vince was a member of the Sheridan Elk’s Lodge #520, and the American Legion Post #7 in Sheridan. He was an avid racquet ball player, of which the Vince Johnston Racquet Ball Invitational has been named, enjoyed fishing, fly-tying, gardening, and especially spending time with his family. Vince was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, of Sheridan; his twin sons, Daniel Johnston, of Hancock, NH, and David Johnston, of Fairport, NY; 3 daughters, Laurie Sheeley, of Parkman, WY, Leslie (Missy) Wolfe, of Cheyenne, WY, and Kelly White, of Dayton, WY; 1 brother, Bert Johnston, of Dallas, TX; 1 sister, Nina Litton, of Powell, WY; 15 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. Visitation for Mr. Johnston will be from 8:00A.M. to 12:00 noon, Thursday, March 24, 2005 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life for Vince will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. A private family committal service will be held in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. A reception for family and friends will be held from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at the Prime Time Steakhouse, 2091 S. Sheridan Ave. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801 Selma H. Kosel, age 100, of Sheridan, WY died Saturday, March 26, 2005, in Sheridan Manor. Selma was born September 13, 1904, to Gustav & Clara (Ristau) Weiss in Warner, S. Dakota. She grew up in the Akaska, S. Dakota area and was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Akaska. Selma married Arthur Kosel on January 9, 1927, in Akaska. Later they moved to Mobridge, SD and resided there until 1944. They also lived in Spearfish, SD, Gillette, WY, and finally moving to Sheridan in 1946. Selma was employed at Chapeks Ben Franklin store for many years. She belonged to Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was the organist for many years. She was a member of AARP and active in the Senior Center. Selma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and two sisters. Selma is survived by two daughters Jean Marttila of Milbank, SD and Delores Anderson of Sioux Falls, SD; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and two sister-in-laws. Funeral service will be 10:00am on Monday (March 28th) from Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Heine officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Johnnye Faye Miller, 74, of Sheridan, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2005, at her residence. Johnnye was born on January 1, 1931, in Strong City, Oklahoma, to Ralph and Helen (Clark) Small. Several years after her high school graduation, she met and married Bruce Miller on June 24, 1961, at her parents’ home. The couple’s union was blessed with two daughters, and she was a dedicated homemaker to her husband and two daughters. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at Kane Funeral Home with Reverend Stephen Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Mamie E. Nickel, 76, of Sheridan, WY, died Tuesday, March 15, 2005 in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Mrs. Nickel was born October 11, 1928 in Sheridan, WY to Mike and Gladys (Paustain) Janich. She grew up and attended schools in Wyoming and Montana, and graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1946. Mamie married Tony Nickel in Billings December 18, 1948. Mrs. Nickel worked for the Billings Phone Company before the Nichel’s moved to Sheridan in 1952. Mamie worked for the Safeway Store and the old Hospital Pharmacy in Sheridan. The Nickel’s celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on December 18, 2004. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, baking, sewing, and craftwork, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Mamie was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheridan. Mrs. Nickel was preceded in death by her parents. Mamie is survived by her husband, Tony, of Sheridan; 2 sons, Mike Nickel, of Sheridan, WY, and Mark Nickel, of Anchorage, Alaska; 2 daughters, Toni Kukuchka, of Dayton, WY, and Peg Parkison, of Sheridan, WY; 1 brother, Glen “Bud” Janich, of Arizona; 1 sister, Virginia “Pokey” White, of Ranchester, WY; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. At Mrs. Nickel’s request, cremation has taken place, and a private family service will be held this summer. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Phillips, of Sheridan, WY died Wednesday, March 9, 2005 in Sheridan Manor. Mr. Phillips was born September 7, 1915 in Faxen, OK to Joseph Issac and Louisa Jane (Rhodes) Phillips. The family moved from Faxen when he was 6 to Midwest, WY where they lived for 1 year before moving to Sheridan. Dave grew up in Sheridan and attended Sheridan schools. Mr. Phillips worked at Western Union for 3 years, then went to work on the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad for 2 years. Mr. Phillips married Alice Littler in Hardin MT on November 18, 1939. Dave joined the Army in 1943, and was sent to Burma for 3 years where he worked on the Burma Road as a truck driver. In 1946, Mr. Phillips was discharged from the Army and returned to Sheridan where he went to work for the U. S. Postal Service as a letter carrier for several years before being transferred inside as a window clerk. During this time, Dave also spent time as a railway mail clerk. He retired from the Post Office in 1977 after 37 years of service. After his retirement from the Post Office, Dave drove school bus for Sheridan School District for 3 years, then worked at Valley Motor Supply as a bookkeeper for 6 years. Mr. Phillips was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sheridan. Dave enjoyed the Sheridan area, particularly the mountains, especially going for rides with his wife, fishing, woodworking, fly-tying, and spending time with his family. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Alice, 6 brothers, and 4 sisters. He is survived by 2 sons, Dave (Lorretta), and Don (Sylvia) Phillips, both of Sheridan, WY; 5 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. Visitation for Mr. Phillips will be 8:00 A.M. to 9:30 A.M. on March 11, 2005. Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Doolin officiating. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801 Esther Lena Rauzi, age 81, of Sheridan, WY died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Esther was born August 1, 1923, in Sheridan to Stefan & Theresa (Wegher) Rauzi. She grew up in Sheridan and lived here all of her life. Esther was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. She enjoyed listening to music, being with people, her family and going to Daybreak at the Senior Citizen’s Center. Esther was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Victor. Esther is survived by her brother Frank Rauzi of Sheridan; sister Mary Pearce of Ranchester, WY; and two nephews. Vigil service will be 7:00pm on Sunday (March 20th) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral liturgy will be 10:00am on Monday from Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ronald Stolcis officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Smith, 87, of Sheridan, WY, died Tuesday, March1, 2005 in Sheridan Manor. Mr. Smith was born September 20, 1917 in Powers, OR to Billy Head and Cora (Chapman) Smith. He grew up and attended schools in Oregon, and graduated from Willamette University in 1940. He married Glenna Della Lewis December 20, 1940. Mr. Smith was an Alaska resident for more than 50 years, and an accountant in Anchorage, for Alaska Sales and Service and Anchorage Refuse. In his retirement, Richard worked as an attendant to children on school buses in Anchorage, AK, Loveland, CO, and Big Horn, WY where he was better known as “Grandpa” Smith by everyone. Mr. Smith was a Past Exalted Ruler of the Elk’s Club in Anchorage, AK, and a member of the Pioneers of Alaska. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, 2 sisters, and 1 son. Mr. Smith is survived by 4 sons, Ronald E. Smith, Loveland, CO, Michael L. Smith, Anchorage, AK, Harry D. “Beany”, Smith, Anchorage, AK, and Billy C. Smith, Kenai, AK; 1 daughter, Patricia L. Fisher, Big Horn, WY; 1 brother, Eugene C. Smith, Anchorage, AK; 14 grandchildren; and 30 great grandchildren. At Mr. Smith’s request, cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held in Anchorage at a later date. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Jess F. Troutman, 84, of Sheridan, WY, died Saturday, March 26, 2005 in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Jess was born March 7, 1921 in Wappapello, MO to John Franklin and Allie Belle (Jett) Troutman. The family moved to Wyoming when Jess was 6 months old where they resided in Dayton for about 1 year. The Troutmans then moved to the homestead at Passaic, Wyoming until the kids were old enough to go to school at which time they moved back to Dayton, Wyoming. Jess attended grammar school at Wakely, Dietz, and Dayton, WY, and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1942. Jess’s dad bought a small ranch near Story, WY just prior to Jess being drafted. Jess was inducted into the Army in the fall of 1942 and served in the 7th Infantry Division during W. W. II, achieving the rank of Private 1st Class, Light Mortar Crewman. He was discharged in October of 1945. Jess received two Purple Hearts, 5 Bronze Stars, and the Combat Infantry Badge. Campaigns included the Aleutian Islands and the Southern Philippines. Jess met his wife of nearly 55 years, Florence Kay McEwen, through his sister. Kay was Jess’s sister Betty’s pen pal and he saw a picture of her and fell in love. They began to correspond and were married June 2, 1950 in Kimberly, ID. After returning home from the war, Jess stayed on the family ranch where he raised his family while helping care for his parents. He also worked as a nurse’s aide at the Sheridan Veterans Administration Hospital for 22 years, during which time he received the Distinguished Service Award. Jess remained on the ranch until his health forced him to move to Sheridan, where he resided with his wife until his death. Jess enjoyed working the land, playing cards, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He had a love for the mountains and in his later years spent as much time on them as possible. Jess was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, and a life member of the American Legion Post #7 in Sheridan. Jess was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, 4 sisters, and 1 brother. Jess is survived by his wife, Florence Kay Troutman, of Sheridan; 2 sons, John C. Troutman, of Clearmont, WY, and Jesse C. Troutman, of Buffalo, WY; 3 daughters, Betty R. Seely, of Sierra Vista, AZ, Susan K. Puliafico, of Billings, MT, and Donna A. Richards, of Sheridan, WY; 1 sister, Betty Belle Porter, of Arvada, CO; 8 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation for Jess will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, March 31, 2005 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Charles & Pastor Scott Lee officiating. Interment will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.
