Ethel Adamson, 96, of Dayton, WY, died Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at her residence.

Mrs. Adamson was born September 30, 1908 in Dayton, WY to O. P. Morton and Laura Etta (Sayer) Mock. She grew up on a ranch near Dayton, attending the Ohlman school at age 5, and graduated from Dayton High School. Mrs. Adamson then attended the normal training program at Sheridan High School graduating in 1925. She began teaching at the Little Blue School the next fall. She also attended Beautician school in Denver.

Mrs. Adamson married Waldon Adamson in Hardin, MT on September 11, 1933. The couple ranched near Dayton until retiring, and she remained living on the ranch until her death.

Ethel was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Sheridan. She enjoyed watching wildlife out her windows, reading, studying the Bible, entertaining friends, and cooking. She was a “Beloved Mother” to many.

Mrs. Adamson was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one sister; two brothers; and two nephews. Survivors include 2 nieces and 1 nephew.

Visitation for Mrs. Adamson will be from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Friday, February 4, 2005, and from 9:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday, February 7, 2005 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mrs. Adamson will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor John Graham officiating. Interment will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Curtiss L. Brenden, age 56, of Sheridan, WY, died Friday, February 25, 2005, in the V.A. Medical Center, Sheridan.

Curtiss was born August 22, 1948, in Williston, N. Dakota, to Vernie & Lorraine (McKenzie) Brenden.

He grew up on the family farm near Homestead, Montana, until they moved to Froid, MT and then to Dodson, MT in 1963. He graduated high school in Dodson in 1967. Curtiss enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the carrier Kitty Hawk. After the service, he attended college in Denver and then in Northern Montana College in Havre, MT. He worked for GTA at Chinook and Centennial Mills in Box Elder, MT. Curtiss married Deanna Werbelow on May 31, 1980, in Kremlin, MT. They lived in Homestead where he managed the Farmers Elevator. In 1989, he went to work for the USDA as a Warehouse Examiner. They lived in Williston until he retired in 2001. They moved to Sheridan in 2002. Curtiss was a member of a Twelve-Step Program, American Legion, Lions Club and Glory Dei Lutheran Church in Williston. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, pinochle, bowling and traveling.

Curtis is preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard Gobin and twin brothers David and Joseph.

Curtiss is survived by his wife Deanna of Sheridan; son Lance Phillips & wife April of Sheridan; two brothers Robin Brenden & wife Pam of Plentywood, MT and Larry Brenden & wife Mayumi of Albuquerque, NM; two sisters Nancy Hansen & husband Stan of Paulden, AZ and Verna Hegg & husband Kenny of Mesa, AZ; three grandchildren Courtney, Eli and Ayden; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 10:00am on Tuesday (March 1st) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald Nelson officiating. Interment will be in Homestead, MT.

Memorials may benefit the American Cancer Society.


Bertha K. Buckley, 88, of Sheridan, WY, died Wednesday, February 2, 2005 in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Mrs. Buckley was born April 6, 1916 in Saskatchewan, Canada to Peter and Barbara (Billik) Kohlruss. She moved with her family when she was a very young girl to a homestead near Gillette, WY. The family then moved to Acme, WY for a short time, then moved to W. 5th St. in Sheridan. Mrs. Buckley attended Holy Name School and graduated from Sheridan High School. She went to work for Quick Printing Company after her graduation, and worked there until she retired due to her health.

Mrs. Buckley married Jerry Buckley in the Methodist Church in Sheridan on May 15, 1943. Her primary interest in life was loving all animals, but especially her life-long companion, her cat “Bonnie”.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; her parents; 1 brother; 1 sister; and 1 stepson.

Mrs. Buckley is survived by 1 step-son, Jim Buckley, of Sheridan; 1 sister, Lenora Kohlruss, of Lander, WY; several step-grandchildren; numerous step-great grandchildren; 1 niece, Norma Aguilar, (Max), of Sheridan, WY; and 1 nephew, Larry Kohlruss, of San Francisco, CA.

Graveside services for Mrs. Buckley will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 7, 2005 in the Masonic #43 Section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with Pastor Tim Charles officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Irma “Jean” Christensen, 68, formerly of Fort Peck, MT, died Friday, February 18, 2005 at her home in Saco, MT, of an apparent heart attack.

Jean was born January 29, 1937 in Hardin, MT to Harry and Bertha (Hodges) Miller, and they were later divorced. Harry later married Mary Fowler of Hardin. Jean grew up and attended schools in Hardin and graduated from Hardin High School in 1955. She worked on a ranch in Hardin and moved to Dayton, WY where she worked as a janitor. She worked in housekeeping at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was married to Edward Lee Hammett and they later divorced. She then married Jack Kawulok. He preceded her in death in 1983.

Jean married Clayton B. Christensen on March 7, 1984 in Dayton, WY. She helped him in the meat packing business until retiring in 1995. The Christensen's moved to Fort Peck so they could enjoy the fishing. In 2001, they moved to Saco, MT.

Jean was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hardin, MT. She enjoyed fishing, camping, embroidery, horses, reading western novels, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, C. B. “Chris” Christensen, of Saco, MT; 1 son, Jesse Hammett, of Ranchester, WY; 1 daughter, Colleen Chavira, of El Paso, TX; 4 step-sons, Jerry Christensen, of Lincoln, NE, Rich Christensen, of Glendale, AZ, Ron Christensen, and Mike Christensen, of Wright, WY; 1 step-daughter, Bernice Lizer, of Kearney, NE; 2 sisters, Joy Miller, of Hardin, MT, and Vickie Hegge, of Missoula, MT; 2 brothers, Larry Miller, of Kenai, Alaska, and Kevin Miller, of Billings, MT; 19 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place, and a Memorial service for Jean will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor Stanley Stephen officiating. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.


Marjorie Penson Collins, age 88, of Sheridan, WY died Friday, February 11, 2005, at her home.

Marjorie was born August 30, 1916, on the Big Bend Ranch at Kirby, MT to Tom & Mabel (Barton) Penson.

Marjorie grew up on the ranch and attended Big Bend and Kirby elementary schools. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1934. Marjorie married Byron Collins on November 8, 1937, in Buffalo, WY. They ranched on lower Piney Creek. After she was 50 years old, she attended Sheridan College and then worked at Memorial Hospital as a CNA. Mr. Collins died in 1989. She moved into Sheridan in 1997. Marjorie was an accomplished horsewoman and enjoyed cooking, history, the outdoors and loved being with her family. She was a member of First Christian Church and the Piney Woman’s Club.

She is also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Charles & Greg Penson, and one sister Marie Turley.

Marjorie is survived by her son Bruce Collins of Ranchester, WY; daughter Ky Dixon of Big Horn, WY; sister Clara Owen of Ranchester, WY; 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2:00pm on Tuesday (Feb. 15th) from First Christian Church with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Mary Louise George, 43, of Sheridan, WY, died Thursday, February 24, 2005 in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Mary was born May 22, 1961 in Buffalo, WY to Lester James and Dollie (Bugher) George. Her younger years were spent in Buffalo. The family moved to Ucross when she was 12 and Mary attended school in Clearmont. She then moved to Arvada, and moved to Sheridan in 1989.

Mary was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed mule racing, rodeos, and anything to do with the outdoors, but the love of her life was her daughter, Genny.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, and 1 niece.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Genny, of Sheridan, WY; 1 brother, Pat George, of Sheridan, WY; 6 sisters, Leslie George, Nellie George, & Ann Straight, all of Clearmont, WY, Ginger Horton and Tammie George, of Sheridan, WY, and Lynn Martinez (Larry), of Rock Springs, WY.

Visitation for Mary will be 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Sunday, February 27, 2005 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service for Mary will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 28, 2005 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor William Heine officiating.

A luncheon for family and friends will be held at 12:00 noon at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1300 W. 5th St.

Russell “Rusty” Hager, age 44 of Dayton, WY, died Wednesday, February 9, 2005, as a result of an auto accident.

Rusty was born November 10, 1960, in Kirksville, Missouri, to Oscar & Joyce (Landon) Hager.

Rusty attended schools in Green City, MO until the family moved to Big Horn, WY where he graduated from high school in 1980. He married Janette Mydland in 1987. They were later divorced. Rusty worked as a mechanic for the Padlock Ranch for many years and then was a mechanic for a coal bed methane company. Rusty enjoyed hunting, playing pool, working with young horses and spending time with his daughters.

Rusty is survived by his companion Kim Soltis; two daughters Moriah & Chelsey Hager of Dayton; parents Oscar and Joyce Hager of Sheridan, WY; brother Randy Hager of Elko, NV; sisters Sonya Mallett of Billings, MT and Cindy Hager of Sheridan; a niece, a nephew, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Gathering of Friends will begin at 4:00pm on Thursday (Feb.17th) in the Dayton Community Hall. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Betty Ann (Reed) Jelly, age 68, of Sheridan, WY died Saturday, February 19, 2005, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Betty was born May 29, 1936, in Sheridan to John & Helen (Kristy) Reed.

Betty grew up and attended schools in Sheridan. She worked for RENEW Recycling for several years. She moved into Sheridan Manor in the early 1990’s. Betty married Kenneth Jelly in November, 1997. Kenneth died in November 2002. Betty was past President of the Residents Council at Sheridan Manor. Betty enjoyed dogs, gardening, bingo, arts, crafts and puzzles.

Betty was also preceded in death by her parents and brother Robert.

Betty is survived by two sisters Dorothy Reed of Sheridan and Linda Reed of San Diego, CA; Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral service will be 2:00pm on Wednesday (Feb. 23rd) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Judy Roberts officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Faye A. Macalister, 86, of Sheridan, WY, died Saturday, February 26, 2005 in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Mrs. Macalister was born June 17, 1918 in Cowles, NB to Hiram Walker and Pearl (Sherer) Arnold. She grew up and attended schools in Cowles and graduated from Cowles High School. Mrs. Macalister married J. Gordon Macalister January 19, 1941 in Red Cloud, NB.

Faye worked in her husband’s accounting office for many years before going to work at the First National Bank in Sheridan as their internal auditor where she retired. During this time, Faye attended classes at Sheridan College, and the University of Wyoming, graduating in 1974 with a Business Degree, and attained her C. P. A.

Mrs. Macalister was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sheridan, a 50-year member of P. E. O. Sisterhood and a 50-year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Faye was also deep into the genealogy of her 4 families.

Mrs. Macalister was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and 2 brothers.

She is survived by 1 son, Douglass Macalister, of Glendale, AZ; 1 sister, Phyllis Edmison, of Cameron Park, CA; and 1 grandson, David Macalister, of Sheridan, WY.

Visitation for Mrs. Macalister will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, March 3, 2005 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Isabelle "Belle" Millspaugh, age 99, a long time resident of the Sheridan, WY area died in Dallas, Texas on Wednesday, February 23, 2005.

She was born March 15, 1905 in Waukon, Iowa to David and Elizabeth Feldstein. She married the love of her life, Paul "Peter" Millspaugh and they settled in the Sheridan area where they lived until Peter's death in 1998.

Belle is survived by her daughter Lilian and son-in-law Jim Dozier of Dallas, TX, her son Clarence Everton of California, 8 Grandchildren, several Great-grandchildren, and a Great-great-grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Peter, her grandson Frank, and 7 brothers and sisters.

Viewing will be 9:00am until 1:30pm on Monday (Feb. 28th) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2:00pm on Monday from Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Logan officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Elks Cemetery. Mildred Olivia (Pearson) Morgan, age 98, of Sheridan, WY died Thursday, February 10, 2005, in Sheridan Manor.

Mildred was born January 15, 1907, in a rooming house in Eothen, Wyoming, to Troed & Emma (Adolthson) Pearson.

Mildred graduated from Crook County High School in 1925. She received her teaching degree from the University of Wyoming and taught school for 12 years around Alva, Beulah and Hulett, Wyoming. Mildred married Arthur G. Morgan in Gillette, WY on September 27, 1948, and they lived in Hulett, WY. They moved to Sheridan in 1953. Mr. Morgan died in 1965. Mildred enjoyed traveling, cards, bingo, local sports and visits from her friends. She gave generously to many area charities. She was a founding member of the Pine Cone #41 Order of the Eastern Star in Hulett and a member of Royal Neighbors.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers Iver, Clarence & Oscar.

Mildred is survived by one niece.

Funeral service will be 10:00am on Tuesday (Feb. 15th) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Melius officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

F. S. “Dusty” Rhoades, 89, of Sheridan, WY, died Saturday, February 26, 2005 in the Sheridan V. A. Hospital.

Mr. Rhoades was born November 12, 1915 in Blackie, Canada to William Julius and Vesta Armenta (Wilson) Rhoades. The family moved to Washington State when “Dusty” was 5 years old. He grew up and attended schools in Snohomish & Whatcom Counties in WA, and attended high school in Bellingham, WA.

After high school, “Dusty” joined the National Guard, then joined the Army in May of 1941, where he served in the Asian-Pacific and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theaters. “Dusty” was discharged from the Army in July of 1945, and returned to Washington State.

He went to work for the United States Postal Service in Bellingham, WA, working first in the post office, and then as a rural carrier, retiring July 31, 1975 after 34 years of service.

“Dusty” married Evva Lavera Townsend in Texas January 15, 1945, and she preceded him in death in 1990. He married Vera Kaufmann October 9, 1993 in Bellingham, WA where they resided until moving to Sheridan, WY in 2000.

“Dusty” was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Sheridan, and a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He enjoyed playing cards, boats and the waters of Bellingham, taking walks, and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, 1 daughter, 1 brother, and 2 sisters.

“Dusty” is survived by his wife, Vera, of Sheridan, WY; 4 sons, Jim Manning, (Audie), of Coulee Dam, WA, Ken Rhoades, (Maryanne) of Columbia, MD, Rod Rhoades, (Janet), of Bellingham, WA, and Clifford Kaufmann, (Rosie), of Tigard, OR; 1 daughter, Charlene Church, (Del), of Story, WY; 19 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

At “Dusty’s” request, cremation has taken place, and no services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Mike Wyatt Rideout passed away at home February 19, 2005, in Sheridan, WY, surrounded by family and friends after a long courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis. A visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2005, at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 23, 2005, at Kane Funeral Home with The Reverend Ron Stolcis officiating. Interment will be in the Sheridan Elks Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.


The family has requested that memorials be made in Mike’s name to the Mike W. Rideout Memorial Fund or to the donor’s choice in care of Karen Green, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801.


Mike was born on May 15, 1948, in Sheridan to Howard and Margaret (Holmes) Rideout. He spent his childhood years at the family ranch in Decker, Montana. His school years were spent in Sheridan County and Red Lodge, MT, and after his schooling, he entered the U.S. Army and served with the 20th Engineering Battalion in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969, being honorably discharged in 1970.


Mike was a true cowman, ranching from Decker, MT, to Arizona and Texas. He owned his own truck hauling cattle to several feed lots from California to Texas. He enjoyed his favorite sport of roping until his illness no longer permitted him to. Mike never met a stranger and always had a tale to tell. Mike will be missed by everyone, especially his two constant companions, his dogs, Gizmo and Sadie. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #520 in Sheridan, WY, for 25 years. He was also a member of Holy Name Catholic Church.


Mr. Rideout was preceded in death by his father Howard Rideout; his mother and stepfather Margaret and Frank Fleury; his uncle Sonny Holmes; and his grandparents. He is survived by his beloved wife Margie of Sheridan; his two sons, Jason Carl and Scott Michael Rideout, both of Sheridan; his cousins, Shelley Holmes, Clay, Chuck and Doug Rideout, Donna Rideout; his mother-in-law Stella Gorzalka; his sisters-in-law Patti Bell and Terri Fulton; his nephews, Dan Bell, Johnathan, Levi, and Charlie Gorzalka; his nieces, Janecia Bell and Chelsie Gorzalka; and his special "son" Justin Chacon.
