Mrs. Abel was born May 31, 1921 in Orange County, Indiana to Monroe and Maudie (McFarland) Flick. She grew up and attended schools in Orange County and graduated from French Lick High School in 1940. Mrs. Abel married Harry Boyd Abel in Orange County, Indiana March 26, 1941. The couple moved to Louisville, Kentucky in 1941, where they resided until Mr. Abel’s death in 1988. Mrs. Abel moved to Sheridan, WY in 1988 to be near her son. Mrs. Abel was a member of the First Christian Church, and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 sisters, and 3 brothers. She is survived by 1 son, Stephen Boyd Abel, of Sheridan, WY; 3 brothers, Calvin Flick, of Florida, Delbert Flick, of Carmel, Indiana, and Norman Flick of Indianapolis, Indiana; and 2 grandchildren. Cremation has taken place, and a graveside memorial service for Mrs. Abel will be held at the Patoka Cemetery, in French Lick, Indiana the latter part of August with arrangements by Brosmer-Drabing Funeral Home of French Lick. Local arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
Betty was born on November 5, 1922, in New Brunswick, NJ, to Charles and Mary (Tomori) Gazdik. She married William J. Berta on June 21, 1941 in Stephenson, Michigan and the couple raised three children together. Betty loved dancing, flower gardening, and cooking.
The family has requested that memorials be made in Betty’s name to the Sheridan Senior Citizen’s Center in care of Karen Green, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan , WY 82801. Mary Catherine “Kitty” Brooks, 80, of Dayton, WY, died Thursday, July 22, 2004 in Westview Health Care Center after a battle with cancer. Mrs. Brooks was born August 16, 1923 in Burlington Junction, Missouri to Charles E. and Mary (Cochran) Puett. She grew up with 5 older sisters and 4 younger brothers in the Burlington Junction and Fillmore, Missouri area. She attended school in Burlington Junction. During World War II, Catherine moved to San Diego, CA where she met and married Bert Brooks, Jr. of Sheridan while he was a Marine stationed in San Diego, and while there, one child, Trudy, was born. The Brooks’ moved to Basin, WY in 1946 where they started the Big Horn Monument Company, which they ran for 18 years. While in Basin, Catherine took the nickname of “Kitty”. The Brooks’ had two more children, Judy and Randy. The couple moved to Billings, MT with Judy and Randy in 1964, and the family moved to Dayton, WY in 1965. Kitty went to work at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County, retiring as a C. N. A. in 1987. Kitty was a Boy Scout Den Mother and a Girl Scout Leader
while living in Basin, was a Past Worthy Matron and 50- year member of
Lewisia Chapter #16, Order of the Eastern Star in Basin, a Past Guardian
of Job’s Daughters in Basin, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary
of Basin where she was a past District President, and the Chaplain of
the Sheridan American Legion Auxiliary, and a Past Noble Grand of the
Forest Rebekah’s Lodge #18, of Dayton, transferring into the Diamond Rebekah
Lodge #8 of Buffalo. Kitty belonged to the Business and Professional Woman’s
Club of Sheridan, and a member of the Dayton Benefit Club and did volunteer
work for various clubs in Dayton. She was a past member of the United
Methodist Church of Basin and was a past member of the First Presbyterian
Church of Sheridan. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 4 sisters, and 4 brothers. She is survived by 1 son, Bert Randall Brooks, of Mansfield, Texas; 2 daughters, Trudy Jean Brooks, of Sheridan, WY, and Judy Lea VanNice Bolstad, of Big Fork, MT; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; one sister, Charlotte Prater, of Savannah, Missouri; 2 sister-in-laws in Missouri, and 1 sister-in-law in Rock Springs, WY; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service for Mrs. Brooks was held Monday, July 26, 2004 in the Dayton Municipal Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Logan officiating. 82836 Brian E. Buckler, 33, of Sheridan, WY, died Saturday, July 10, 2004 at his residence. Mr. Buckler was born February 24, 1971 in Sterling, CO to Darrell and Elaine (Ruf) Buckler. He grew up and attended schools in Sterling before moving with his family to Dayton in 1985. Brian graduated from Tongue River High School in 1989. Mr. Buckler moved to Casper, WY in 1992 where he worked for First Interstate Bank. He married Tracy Nickens on August 20, 1994 in Sheridan, WY. The couple moved back to Sheridan in 1995 and worked for Sheridan Community Federal Credit Union until 1998. Brian then went to work for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and worked as a track foreman and welder. Brian was Local Chairman of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Local #1074. He enjoyed golf, basketball, softball, volleyball, hunting, mountain climbing, skiing and especially enjoyed camping and fishing with his girls. He enjoyed anything that had to do with the outdoors. Mr. Buckler is survived by his wife, Tracy, of Sheridan; 2 daughters, Brittney and Amanda, both of Sheridan; his parents, Darrell and Elaine Buckler, of Sterling, CO; his paternal grandmother, Sarah Buckler, of Sterling; 1 sister, Christina Pyle, of Sterling; 1 niece and 1 nephew; and numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles. Funeral services for Mr. Buckler will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 15, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ronald Nelson and Pastor Scott Lee officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Mrs. Dunn was born March 21, 1910 in San Francisco, CA to Clarence and Geneva (Danielson) Dowen. She grew up and attended schools in San Francisco and Oakland, CA. Mrs. Dunn met and married Phillip H. Dunn in Oakland, CA June 4, 1928. The couple moved to Sheridan in 1947. Mrs. Dunn enjoyed playing cards, bingo, gardening, and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Mrs. Dunn is survived by two daughters, Barbara Simon, and Norma Legerski, of Sheridan, WY; 2 step-brothers in CA; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren; and 1 great, great grandchild. Graveside services for Mrs. Dunn will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, July 30, 2004 in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with the Rev. Cindy Shipley officiating. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801 She was born March 29, 1986, in Cheyenne, WY, to Matthew & Sandra Ford The family came to Sheridan in 1992. Kaleigh graduated from Sheridan High School. During her school years, she played basketball, was in the band and enjoyed photography. She also enjoyed snowboarding and softball. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was active in several church youth groups. Kaleigh was planning to attend Sheridan College to pursue a degree in psychology. She was preceded in death by two uncles Steve and Kent Litle and a cousin Audrey Ford. Kaleigh is survived by her mother & step father Sandy Litle and Robert Miller of Sheridan; father Matt Ford of Salem, Oregon; brother Kerek Ford of Sheridan; grandparents Jim & Margaret Litle of Sheridan and Leonel & Alice Ford of Pampa, TX; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Mrs. Hape was born November 24, 1915 in Burns, WY to William Samuel and Mary Berniece (Bawden) Bishop. She moved around WY with her family during her early years as her father worked construction. She attended schools in Burns and Loveland, CO. She married William Nolan “Tuck” Hape November 24, 1933 in Fort Collins, CO. The Hape’s moved to Sheridan, and Mrs. Hape spent her lifetime in the Sheridan area. Mrs. Hape was a member of the Sheridan County Cattlewomen’s Association. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and gardening. The main focus and interest in her life was her family and her church. Mrs. Hape was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 brother, and 1 sister. She is survived by one son, Chester Hape, of Sheridan, WY; one daughter, Jackie Perry, of Sheridan, WY; two brothers, Earl Bishop, of Joliet, MT, and Harold Bishop, of Billings, MT; one sister, Thelma Nash, of Billings, MT; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services for Mrs. Hape will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Big Horn, WY with the Rev. Kenneth Doolin officiating. Haratyk Former Sheridan area resident, Mary T. Haratyk, 89, of Boise, ID, died Saturday, July 24, 2004 in Boise. Mrs. Haratyk was born July 15, 1915 in Kleenburn, WY to John and Julia (Antonio) Legerski. She grew up and attended school in Ranchester before moving with her family to the Legerski farm on Kruze Creek near Big Horn when she was 10 years old, and she attended Big Horn Schools. Mary married Mike Haratyk on January 20, 1935 in Sheridan, WY. They lived on the Legerski farm for a period of time after which they moved to the Haratyk farm on Meade Creek at the beginning of World War II. She spend the rest of her life living with her husband on most of the ranches from Banner to Rapid Creek, including the Bar 13 Ranch on Meade Creek, where she cooked for Mrs. Fordyce, the Triangle “T” Ranch on Rapid Creek, and the Hidden Valley Ranch above Big Horn for Harold Costello. Mary was well-known for her cooking on all of these ranches. Mr. Haratyk died in 1985, and Mary moved to Boise, ID in 1988. Mary was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, and the Big Horn Women’s Club. She enjoyed cooking, playing Bingo, fishing, and traveling with her husband to visit and spend time with her extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Mike, 3 brothers, and 1 sister. Mrs. Haratyk is survived by 2 sons, Mike and John Haratyk, both of Boise, ID; 5 brothers, John, Walter, and Louis Legerski of Sheridan, William Legerski of Wheatland, and Andy Legerski of Casper; 1 sister, Alma Kilmarx of Dickson, Tennessee; 5 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. Vigil service for Mrs. Haratyk will be 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Father William Halvey officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Big Horn, WY. Gerard Patrick “Jerry” Kelly, 56, of Story, WY, died Friday, July 9, 2004 in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Mr. Kelly was born May 20, 1948 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Gerard and Elizabeth (Boyle) Kelly. A career Marine with 23 years service, Lt. Col. Kelly retired from the Corps in 1993, after serving as commanding officer of the Marine detachment at the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station. Upon retirement, Lt. Col. Kelly moved to Minneapolis, where he was a software specialist for The Gartner Group. His broad interests included aikido (black belt), in which he served as an instructor and initiated an aikido program in the Hopkins, MN School District. He enjoyed marathon running, kayaking, black powder shooting, archery, bonsai artistry, horseback riding and relaxing with his family at their vacation residence in Story, WY. Col. Kelly was an avid reader, a Rotarian, a student of American and military history, and passionate about anything having to do with his beloved daughters, Caitlin and Torin Kelly of Minneapolis, MN. Col. Kelly was preceded in death by his parents. In addition to his daughters, Gerard is survived by his wife, Leslie Kelly of Minneapolis, and his brothers, Kevin and Michael Kelly of New York City. At Col. Kelly’s request, cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Memorials in memory of Col. or to the Story Branch Library, Story, WY 82842 Tamera Jean "Tammy" Legerski, 37, of rural Maple Lake, MN and formerly of Sheridan, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN. Tammy was born on April 14, 1967 to Stanley George Legerski and Mary K. (Gillis) Legerski in Sheridan, Wyoming. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1985. Tammy married Dave Collins in Sheridan, WY on April 24, 2004. She was a deeply devoted mother and wife, and took great pride in taking care of her family. Her son, Blake, was the light of her life. Tammy was an exceptional homemaker and was known for her love of beauty. She collected candles, jewelry, crystalware angels, and other fancy home decor. Tammy was a very giving person, always remembering her loved ones on birthdays and holidays with cards and gifts. Her hobbies included spending time with her family, adding to her collections, organizing and decorating her home; snowmobiling, motorcycling, and shopping. Tammy struggled with many health problems but always had a smile and witty remark to share. She had a wonderful sense of humor. Although she made her home in Minnesota for the last decade, she made frequent trips back to Wyoming to visit family and friends. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends.

Mr. Miech was born February 19, 1920 in Kooi, WY to Joseph and Anna (Demchok) Miech. He grew up in Ulm, WY and attended the Coal Creek School. Mr. Miech served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during W. W. II. He returned to Sheridan, and married Lois Marie Bartenhagen in Hardin, MT, on June 28, 1945. The couple made their home in the Sheridan area, and Mr. Miech retired from the Sheridan V. A. Medical Center as a boiler plant operator. George was a life member of the V.F.W., Sheridan Elk’s Lodge #520, the Moose Lodge, and the Eagles. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and was an avid crib player. Mr. Miech was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lois, 3 brothers, 4 sisters, and 1 granddaughter. George is survived by 3 sons, Bill, (Joni) of Helena, MT, Bud (Linda) of Casper, WY, and Brad, (Janet) of Big Horn, WY; 3 daughters, Sharon (Gerald) Brantz, of Sheridan, WY, Wyla (Sam) Cotton, of Sheridan, WY, and Debbie (Lee) Thompson, of Casper, WY; 1 brother, Edward Miech, of Sheridan; 3 sisters, Rose Woodward, of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Mable Rothwell, of Cheyenne, WY, and Edna Fry, of Malibu, CA; 21 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. At Mr. Miech’s request, cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 30, 2004 at First Christian Church with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating.
