Helen M. Ahrens, 88, of Sheridan WY, died Thursday, September 5,2003 in her Sheridan home.

Funeral service in Sheridan will be 10:00am on Monday, September 8th, from Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. William Heine officiating.

Funeral service in illinois will be 11:00am on Thursday from Zien Lutheran Church. Marengo, IL with Dr. Glen Borhart officiating. Interment will be in McHenry County Memorial Park, Woodstock, IL.

Mrs. Ahrens was born May 6, 1915 in Chicago, Il to Henry and Mary (Tierney) Hall. She married Harold Ahrens, Sr. on August 30, 1933, in Waukegan, Il. They made their home on a farm in Marengo, IL until retiring in 1971.

Mrs. Ahrens enjoyed reading, playing cards, cooking, and baking for her family. She was a devoted wife and mother; and loved he grand, great, and great-great grandchildren.

She was a member of the Immanuael Lutheran Church since 1998 when she moved to Sheridan to live with her youngest daughter Susan Godwin. She was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Marengo for over fifty years where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years and also president of Ladies Aid for years. She was also a 4-H leader when her children were young.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1982 and an infant son.

In addition to her youngest daughter; survivors include an older daughter Patricia Brown of Weslaco, TX; two sons Richard Ahrens of Okeechobee, FL and Harold Ahrens, Jr. of Riverwoods, IL; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and one on the way; a sister Lorraine, Lakewood, CA.; and several nieces and nephews.

Laura Auchmuty, 91, of Sheridan, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2003, at her families Sheridan residence.

Laura was born on October 19, 1911, to Paul and Bessie White in Greenwood, Nebraska. She married Forrest L. Auchmuty on June 20, 1935 in Auburon, Nebraska, moving to Sheridan in the fall of 1945 where he practiced veterinary medicine until his death in 1977.

Mrs. Auchmuty’s husband, parents, one sister, two brothers, and one nephew preceded her in death. Surviving are one niece, two nephews, and her adopted family, Joan and Wayne Kirby , Mark & Debbie Hutchins and family, and Dean and Colleen Schatz and family.

Cremation has taken place in Sheridan and no services are scheduled. Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Dorothy H. Crump, 76, of Sheridan, WY, died Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at her residence.

Mrs. Crump was born March 22, 1927 in Acme, WY to Frank and Pauline (Leis) Sperl. She grew up in Sheridan, and attended schools in Sheridan, graduating from Sheridan High School in 1945. She then attended college in Thermopolis to become a nurse. She returned to Sheridan where she met Ray L. Crump, and they were married in Sheridan in May, of 1949.

The couple then moved to Casper, WY, and then moved to California, living in California and WY, until Mrs. Crump returned to Sheridan in the mid 1980’s.

Mrs. Crump was a very kind, quiet person, completely devoted to her family, spending many hours talking with them on the phone, and who loved listening to music.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother.

Mrs. Crump is survived by 2 sons, Gregory A. Crump, and wife, Brenda, of Corona, CA; and Tom J. Crump, of Salem, OR; 2 daughters, Sandra West, of Temcula, CA, and Kathy Punt, of Lodi, CA; 4 grandchildren, and numerous friends and acquaintances.

Services for Mrs. Crump will be 11:00 A.M.Wednesday, October 1st, 2003 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Pastor William Heine officiating. Burial will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Carole L. Daniels age 75 of Sheridan, WY

Died Friday, September 19, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County

Born December 9, 1927, in Chariton, Iowa

Parents – Thomas & Evelyn (Herron) Campbell

She grew up in Iowa and California. Carole graduated from high school in Leon, Iowa. She married Clarence Daniels on August 22, 1945, in Topeka, Kansas. They lived in St. Joseph, MO and later moved to Omaha, NE. She worked as a tailor for JC Penney and a as a loan officer for Avco Financial. They moved to Sheridan in 1973. She worked for Woolworth, Farm Bureau and as a tax preparer for H&R Block. Carole enjoyed reading, decorating, sewing and going for walks with her dog.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one sister Margaret Grant.

Dollie Mae Eigenheer Age 98 of Sheridan, WY

Born November 14, 1904, in Salt Springs, WY

Parents – Lloyd & Sophornia (Mock) Griffith

The family homesteaded near Red Butte and she attended Red Butte School. Dollie married Thomas Phillips in the early 1920’s. They lived in several places until she moved to Sheridan. She worked as a waitress for several years. She married Harold Eigenheer in the mid 1950’s. They lived in Sheridan. Harold died in 1978. She had been a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Moose Lodge Auxiliary. Dollie enjoyed gardening, playing darts, fishing, and bingo.

Preceded in death by son Bernard Phillips, daughter Elsie, stepsons Charles and Norman Eigenheer.

Monty O. Harrison age 89 of Sheridan, WY

Died Friday, September 12, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County

Born May 5, 1914, in Sheridan

Parents – Leonard & Danora (Smith) Harrison


He grew up and graduated from high school in Sheridan. In high school, he played football on the All State Champion Football Team. After high school he had several small business’s in Sheridan. Enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII and served in Normandy & Northern France. He received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. After the service, he married Bonnie Jean Pierce on July 23, 1946. He lived in Sheridan the rest of his life. In 1957, he went back to school and received a Medical Technology Degree. He worked as a Medical Technologist at Memorial Hospital until he retired. Monty volunteered many hours at the V.A. Medical Center. He was a life member of VFW, American Legion and Cooties. He was current Chaplain of the VFW, past state Commander of the DAV and a member of VAVS. Monty enjoyed sculpting, collecting rocks, bells and iron trivets as well as designing and making jewelry.

He was preceded by his wife Bonnie Jean in 1973, His parents, 1 Brother, 1 Sister and a Son.

Loraine H. Livingston age 91 of Sheridan, WY

Died Friday, September 5, 2003, in St. Vincent Hospital, Billings, MT

Born August 7, 1912, in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Parents – Edward & Hazel (Lynch) Browne II

They lived in many places before coming to Sheridan in 1931. Loraine worked as a clerk in the New York Store. She married Amil Livingston on June 21, 1937, in Thermopolis, WY. The lived in Sheridan and built the Big Horn Avenue Grocery. After raising her children, she went to college and studied bookkeeping. Then she kept the books for her husband for a few years. A lifelong member of First Baptist Church, she taught Sunday school, was active in women’s circle groups, and took care of the Nursery. She also taught the Pioneer Girls. She loved gardening (especially roses), birds, sewing, craft work and reading.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jack and Edward.

Helena E. Lovick, 85, of Sheridan, WY died Monday, September 8, 2003 in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Mrs. Lovick was born April, 1918 in Fairfield, Missouri to Charles Robert and Marth Agnes (Tupin) Eaton. She grew up in S.E. Missouri and married Lewis William Lovick July 15,1934 in Missouri.

Mrs. Lovick was a homemaker living in Missouri unitl moving to Sheridan in 1997 to be near her sister. She enjoyed flowers, reading, cooking, playing cards, cross-word puzzles, and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 8 brothers, 5 sisters and 2 sons.

Mrs. Lovick is survived by her husband, Lewis, of Sheridan; 1 son, Daniel Larry Lovick of Sheridan; 2 daughters, Darleen Comfort and Sharleen Livingston, both os Sheridan; 4 grandchildren and step great, great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lovick will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 11, 2003 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Rev. Terral Bearden officiating.

Visitation for Mrs. Lovick will be 4:00pm Sunday, September 14,2003 at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California, Missouri. Graveside services will be 10:00AM Monday, September 15, 2003 at the California City Cemetery, California, Missouri. Local arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Delchia Lonabaugh Neighbors, 83, of Sheridan, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2003, at Sheridan Manor.

Mrs. Neighbors was born April 16, 1920, in Sheridan to Andrew and Mary (Nichols-Kumor) Banas. Delchia was raised by Marie Swaner. On May 15, 1953 she married Robert Andrew Neighbors and their marriage was blessed with one daughter. In 1963, at the 25th anniversary of the National Federation of Republican Women held in Chicago, Delchia modeled a ball gown worn by First Lady Mrs. Benjamin Harrison, who wore the dress at a function held at the White House. She also modeled the inaugural ball gown at Salt Lake City, Utah for the Ballet Guilds benefit dinner/dance called the” Bald Elegance.” Delchia graduated from Chicago Art Institute. She taught tole painting for twenty years and donated several tole paintings to the Senior Center for benefit auctions. Delchia was a red cross volunteer for the V.A. for thirty years. She enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing.

Delchia was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents; and one sister, Jerry Banas. She is survived by her daughter, Lesa Raths-Whitaker and her husband Michael of Sheridan; her granddaughter Kristin Raths of Sheridan; and her brother Andrew Jack Banas of Sheridan.

Cremation has taken place in Sheridan. Memorial services will be held on Monday, September 8, 2003 at 10:00am at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with Reverend Ray Clark and Father David Duprey officiating. Burial will follow in the Elk’s Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Robert Lee Redinger, 70, of Sheridan, passed away on Friday, September 12,2003, at his residence after a long illness.

Robert was born on September 19, 1932, in Deadwood, South Dakota, to Reazo and Evelyn (Olson) Redinger. He married Fern Wilen on March 23,1957, in Deadwood and the couple had fourteen children together. Robert enjoyed fishing, hunting, inventing and spending time with his family.

Mr. Redinger was preceded in death by his father, Reazo; one son, Lars; and 8 grandchildren. Survivors inclue his mother, Evelyn; wife, Fern of Sheridan; his ten sons, Lee of Nales, S.D., Todd of Weberville, MI, Linn of Sturgis, S.D. Scott of St. Paul, MN, Ross of Gillette, WY, Hugh, Hans, Drew, Orin, and Noel all of Sheridan; his three daughter, Kim Tapani, Joy Redinger, both of Sheridan and Gwen Homola of Ranchester; his four brothers, Reazo Jr. (Bud) of Yacolt, WA, Daryl, Paul and James all of Spearfish, S.D.; his three sisters, Evelyn Wilen of Bell Fourches, S.D. , Mary Rosenlund of Spearfish, S.D., and Edna Bunn of Chanhassen, MN ; and his 57 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 14,2003 at 7:00pm, at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2:00pm at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church.


Robert K. Richardson, 76, of Sheridan, WY, died Thursday, September 4, 2003 in Westview Health Care Center.

Mr. Richardson was born January 6, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa to James and Rosetta (Clark) Richardson. When he was 7 years old, the family moved to the Grass Creek area near Thermopolis, WY and he attended schools in Thermopolis.

Mr. Richardson served in the Navy during World War II, stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. After the service, he returned to WY working in the oil fields at Grass Creek and the surrounding areas in the Big Horn Basin. In 1961, Mr. Richardson and Charles Stump started the “R” & “S” Well Servicing Company, which they ran until 1971.

He married Phyllis Jean Haynes December 11, 1971 in Laramie, WY. In 1980, the Richardson’s moved to Evanston, WY, and Mr. Richardson retired in 1992. They then returned to Thermopolis, and moved to Sheridan in 1997.

Mr. Richardson was a life member of the V.F.W., enjoyed bowling, fishing, and spending time with his family. He loved his “pug” dogs, and always had a “pug” dog with him.

Mr. Richardson was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, 1 daughter, and 1 son.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of Sheridan, WY; 4 sons, Robert, of Powell, Brian, of Kemmerer, Phillip, of Casper, and Wendell, of Riverton; 1 daughter, Rozanne Pebbles, of Dillon, MT; 2 step-daughters, Nancy Hess, of Sheridan, WY, and Sharon Ward, of Boulevard, CA; many grand children and great grandchildren.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Shirley T. Sampson, of Sheridan , passed away at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County on Friday, September 26,2003, at the age of 63.

Shirley was born in Sheridan on September 22,1940, to Darlene Fern (McKenzie) and Roy lewis Griffin. Shirley, along with her three sisters, Aileen, Billie, and Pauline was raised and attended school in Sheridan. Following her school years, Shirley married Franklin Wayne "shorty" Sampson in Custer, South Dakota, on September 30, 1958. The couple had one daughter, Rita Sampson. Shirley worked at the Sheridan V.A. Medical Center for 25 years, on both the Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Unity and the Psychiatric Unit as a Certified Nursing Assistant.

Shirley enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling. Following Wayne's death, Shirley met and enjoyed spending time with Steve Noel. They attended auctions and yard sales, and Shirley made crafts, had an appreciation for antique cars, was a member of the KARZ, and liked giving people a hard time.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Wayne and her parents. She is survived by her dear friend and companion, Steve Noel; her daughter Rita, both of Sheridan; three sisters, Billie Garriffa of Sheridan, Pauline Griffin of Sheridan, and Aileen Thulesen of Billings, Montana; numerous nieces and nephew.

Private family services were held at Kane Funeral Home with George Tellez officiating, and interment was in the Maasonic Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home handled the arrange,emts.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Shirley's name to the Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter in care of Kay Roush, First Federal Savings Bank, P.O. Box 6007, Sheridan, WY 82801.

 



Clara L. Smallwood, 93, of Sheridan, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2003, in Superior, Montana.

Clara was born on April 11, 1910, in Capa, South Dakota to Joseph and Bessie (Gleason) Tanner. She was the oldest of four children. She moved to Arvada, Wyoming as a young girl with the family. On May 9, 1959 she married George Smallwood in Sheridan. She drove a pilot car for years and would help at the Salvation Army until she was 90 years old.

Mrs. Smallwood was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her two brothers, Bill and Joe. Survivors include her three sons, Bert Horton of Superior, MT, Sam Horton, and Ted Boggess both of Sheridan; her daughter Bernice Worden of Sheridan; sister Myra Spellman of Spotted Horse, WY; and her 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

The family has requested that memorials be made in Clara’s name to the Elk’s Building Fund in care of Kay Roush, First Federal Bank, P.O. Box 6007, Sheridan, WY 82801.


Elsie J. Smith, 98, of Sheridan, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2003, at Westview Health Care Center.

Elsie was born on March 27, 1905, in Springfield, Missouri, to Jesse and Mary (Cavender) Smith. She traveled throughout Europe and had the opportunity, while in London, to see Queen Elizabeth’s coronation. Ms. Smith lived in Washington DC for 60 years before moving to Sheridan to be close to her family. During her years in Washington she enjoyed attending plays and other events at the Washington Center. Elsie taught school for seven years before going to work for the state department until her retirement. She loved children and her family and traveling to visit with friends on the East coast.

Ms. Smith was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Mary Lenzner; and her brother-in-law William Lenzner. Survivors include her sister June Lobdell and her husband Don ; her niece, Donna Kuehne and her husband Bruce; her great niece Jenny Loomis and her husband Tim; and her great-great nieces and nephews all of Sheridan.

Cremation has taken place in Sheridan. Inurnment will be at Maple Park Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri. Kane Funeral Home is handling local arrangements.

Benjamin E. Trujillo, 74, of Sheridan, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Benjamin was born on January 17, 1929, in San Luis, Colorado to Jose Elais and Amanda (Montaya) Trujillo. On November 19, 1945 he married Cora Marie Sanchez and their marriage was blessed with four children. She passed away in 1978. He later married Peggy Dykes in July of 1979, the two later divorced prior to her passing away in 1998. He then met Lois Preston Kennedy whom he married on November 30, 1996. Benjamin enjoyed playing slot machines, watching the horse races in Billings, MT, watching football on T.V., especially the Denver Broncos, and watching the Sheridan College Generals boys and girls basketball team. Benjamin was an avid gardener and was very proud of his sunflowers. He also loved spending time with family, he especially enjoyed being with his wife, who he called his “Little Petunia”, and his dog Chloe. He was a member of the Eagles lodge and of Holy Name Catholic Church.

Mr. Trujillo was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Silviano; his 3 sisters Delia Chavez, Celia Rodriguez, and Josephine Archuleta. Survivors include his wife, Lois of Sheridan; his daughter, Mary Ann Dykes and her husband Johnny of Buffalo; his three sons, Pat Trujillo and his wife Carol of Lame Deer, MT, Ross Trujillo and his wife Debra of Sparks, NV, and Larry Trujillo and his wife Joyce of Cheyenne, WY; his 13 grandchildren; his 35 great-grandchildren; his sister, Ruth Mounts of Edgewater, CO; his 3 half brothers, Ed Trujillo and Ernie Trujillo of Sheridan, and Sam Trujillo of Gillette; his 4 half sisters, Susie Westika, Bertha Ligocki, and Alice Sosa all of Sheridan and Rose McClure of Billings, MT; and several nieces and nephews.

The Rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2003, at Kane Funeral Home. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2003, at Holy Name Catholic Church with The Reverend Philip Ntulama officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Jack Wasson Jr., 60, of Sheridan, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2003, at his Sheridan residence.

Jack was born on April 1, 1943, in Twilley, Utah, to Jack and Marie (Felde) Wasson. He graduated from Sheridan High School. Jack loved hunting and fishing in the Big Horn Mountains. He also enjoyed leather work and recording movies off the televison. Jack spent most of his time helping others in the community with their personal problems and provided a large elk hunting camp for others to come stay and hunt with him. Every Christmas season he was Santa Clause for the Dog and Cat Shelters Benefit, “Pet pictures with Santa”.

Mr. Wasson was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his two sons, Paul Wasson of Wimbledon, N.D. and James Wasson of Coeur D’Alene, ID; his sister Shirley McPheeters of Sheridan; and his brother Don Wasson also of Sheridan.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2003 at Kane Funeral Home at
10:00 am. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
