Dorothy E. (Dolly) (Doll) Arzy, 70, of Sheridan, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2003, at her residence.

Dorothy was born on March 4, 1933, in Otis, Colorado, to Frank and Bertha (Focht) Townsend. On February 6, 1965, she married George Arzy in Sheridan, Wyoming. Their union was blessed with five children. Dorothy enjoyed collecting Indian Art.

Mrs. Arzy was preceded in death by her parents; her four sisters, Pearl, Grace, Ruth, and Edith; her two brothers, Melvin and Levi; and her infant daughter Leora Kraft. Survivors include her husband George of Sheridan; her two sons, Larry Townsend and Robert Kraft both of Sheridan; her three daughters, Linda O'Toole of California, Donna Taylor, and Brenda Mines both of Sheridan; and her seven grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place in Sheridan and memorial services will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Kane Funeral Home with Reverend David Duprey officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.


Mary F. Bryant, 89, of Sheridan, WY, died Friday, July 25, 2003 at the residence of Kim and Dorothy Bangerter.

Mrs. Bryant was born August 23, 1913 in Pueblo, CO, to John and Mary (Mezan) Zaletel. She grew up and attended schools in Pueblo. She then went to work in the Ordinance Depot in Pueblo during World War II.

Mrs. Bryant married Weston W. Bryant October 14, 1950 in Pueblo and they moved to Greybull, WY, moving to Sheridan in 1950 where she resided until her death.

Mrs. Bryant enjoyed cooking and baking, fishing and camping with her husband, and enjoyed working in her flowerbed. She was a member of the Cheri Chic’s Homemaker’s Club, and Holy Name Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 brothers, and a stepdaughter.

Mrs. Bryant is survived by her daughter, Alice Hepp, of Sheridan; 3 sisters, Rose Jersin, and husband, Stanley, Frances Petros and husband, Raymond, and Dorothy Zele, and husband, Carl, all of CO; numerous grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Liturgy for Mrs. Bryant will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 2, 2003 at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ronald Stolcis as Celebrant. Burial will be in the Willow Grove Cemetery, in Buffalo, WY. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

 


William Henry Clark, Jr., 55, of Sheridan, WY, died Saturday, July 19, 2003 in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County of injuries incurred in a motorcycle accident east of Sheridan.

Mr. Clark was born December 21, 1947, in Pomona, CA to William Henry Clark, Sr., and Catherine Eileen (Nugent) Clark. He grew up in California and moved to Sheridan in 1998, going to work for Scheckla Trucking as a long-haul truck driver. Mr. Clark was working for Scheckla Trucking at the time of his death.

Mr. Clark loved the outdoors, horses, his Harley-Davidson, and was one of the last original cowboys.

Mr. Clark is survived by his parents, William and Catherine Clark, of Pharump, NV; one son, William Henry Clark, III, of Kansas City, KS; one daughter, Jennifer Marie Clark, of Las Vegas, NV; 5 sisters, Mary Flud and Sandy Harris, of Las Vegas, NV, Linda Moll of Polson, MT, Kathy Schaffer of Apple Valley, CA, Peggy Russell of Big Fork, MT; and 4 grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life for Mr. Clark will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 26, 2003 on top of the Big Horn Mt.’s at Tongue River Canyon with his family and friends. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

 


Eugene Eckroth, 81, of Sheridan, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Gene was born on October 31, 1921, in Mandan, ND to George and Beatrice (Kautzman) Eckroth. Gene Attended Jamestown College on a full ride basketball scholarship. He enlisted in the Army in May, 1940. He attended OCS at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and graduated in September, 1942. He participated in the Guadalcaual and Luzon campaigns in the Pacific, as an officer in the 8th Field Artillery Battalion, 25th Division, 6th Army. After the war, he served in the Army Reserve in Montana and National Guard in Wyoming. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel, HHB, 1st BN, Wyoming ARNG on March 9, 1973. He received the Wyoming National Guard Distinguished Service Medal as the Battalion Commander for the 1-49 Field Artillery Battalion. Following the war, Gene attended Montana State University and graduated with a Masters Degree in Agronomy. On September 11, 1946 Gene married Elizabeth “Betty” Labrie and their union was blessed with five children. Gene loved watching sports and was also an avid watcher of politics. He was a life member of the Elks Club and was also a member of the VFW, Knights of Columbus, and the Secular Order of St. Frances.

Mr. Eckroth was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother Peter. Survivors include his three daughters, Susan Adams and her husband Joe of Billings, MT, Colleen Larsen and her husband Jerry of Casper, WY, and Kerry Zolg and her husband Robert of Huntington Beach, CA; his two sons, James Eckroth and his wife Andrea of Casper, WY and David Eckroth and his wife Laurie of Billings, MT; his eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; his brother Henry “Buck” Eckroth of Mandan, ND; and his sister Virginia Boehm also of Mandan, ND.

The Rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2003, at Holy Name Catholic Church. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at Holy Name Catholic Church with The Reverend Ron Stolcis officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Elks Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements

Cody was born April 12, 1988 in Sheridan, WY to Ron L. Holt and Heidi Rene Lawrence. He moved to Paradise, CA with his mother when he was 4 years old. They moved back to Sheridan 3 years ago. Cody was attending Central Middle School at the time of his death.

Cody enjoyed snowboarding, skateboarding, floating the Goose Creek, loved music, video games, and hanging out with his friends.

He is survived by his father, Ron Holt of Sheridan and Gillette; his mother, Heidi Lawrence of Sheridan; his grandparents, Bill and Ginger Lawrence; his older brother, Chuck Gilmore, of Sheridan; and his two sisters, Kira Lawrence and Amanda Gilmore, of Sheridan.

Services for Cody will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, July 11, 2003 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Burial will in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Viewing will be held from 8:00A.M. to 5:00P.M. Thursday, July 10th, and 8:00A.M. to 1:30P.M. Friday, July 11th, 2003.

Althea Hunter, 81, of Gillette, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2003, at her home in Gillette.

Althea was born on June 13, 1922, in Lamar, Colorado, to William Herbert and Lucy Blanche (Yates) Creswell. The family moved from the dust bowl of south east Colorado to Gunnison, Colorado in the mid 1930's. In 1941 Althea graduated from high school in Gunnison. She enlisted in the Navy WAVE Program in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945. She then went on to attend the University of Colorado in 1945 and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy in 1949. On October 9, 1949, she married George Hunter in Cheyenne, Wyoming and they made their home in Pueblo, Colorado until 1955. Their union was blessed with three sons. The family moved to Gillette in 1955. From 1964 through 1979, Althea worked as a pharmacist in the family owned business, Hunter’s Drug. Althea enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, history, sewing for herself, her children, and her grandchildren. She was a great encourager to her children, grandchildren, and all their friends.

Mrs. Hunter was preceded in death by her parents; and her two brothers William Creswell Junior and Boyce Creswell. Survivors include her husband, George of Gillette; her three sons, Glenn Hunter, Stanley Hunter, and Daniel Hunter all of Gillette; her 8 grandchildren; her brother, Sam Creswell of Nampa, Idaho; and her sister, Jo McMillan of Roswell, New Mexico.

Cremation has taken place in Sheridan. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 19 at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Gillette with Reverend Joel P.Wright officiating. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Frances Kathleen( Brantz) Gillis, 81, of Sheridan, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Frances was born on July 14, 1922, in Monarch, Wyoming, to Andrew and Kathryn (Marosok) Brantz. In 1941 she graduated from Sheridan High School. She married William J. Gillis in 1942, the two had one son together before they divorced. In 1965 Frances married Otto Heezko and the two later divorced. She worked at the original Pentagon Building in Washington D.C prior to moving back to Sheridan where she was employed by MDU for 46 years. Frances enjoyed bowling, she bowled for Ernest Saddlery for many years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She really loved the Big Horn Mountains and their family cabin that her father and uncle built in 1932. She loved and missed her parents always. Her greatest love in recent years were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Frances was a member of the Eagles, the Moose, and DOES.

Mrs. Gillis was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Walter; and her sister Victoria. Survivors include her son Robert and his wife Patricia of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her 2 grandchildren, Robert A. Gillis and Dyanne K. Tope; her three great grandchildren, Samantha F. Gillis, Bobby C. Gillis, and Kerstyn A. Tope; her nephew Gerald Brantz of Sheridan; and her niece Barbara Whiteman of Denver, CO.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2003, at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor William Heine officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Elks Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Bruce M. Jennings, Jr. Age 88 of Sheridan, WY

Died Friday, July 17, 2003, at his Sheridan home.

Born August 29, 1914, in Davilla, Texas

Parents – Bruce M. & Anna (Hine) Jennings, Sr.

He grew up in Davilla and graduated from Rogers High School. He worked for the CCC in East Texas for a time. Graduated from Texas Tech in Lubbock, TX, with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. He married Berneice Locke on November 12, 1946, in Enid, OK. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years and saw all his sons become Eagle Scouts. Bruce worked for Mobil Oil for 37 years until he retired in 1974 and moved to Sheridan. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Elks Lodge #520, Wyo. Weapons Collectors and the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and collecting Charles Newton rifles.

Preceded in death by two sons Bruce Jennings, III and Gordon Jene Jennings; one sister; an infant son and an infant daughter.

Erma Guyot Kirby, age 94, of Sheridan, WY

Died Sunday, July 13, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County

Born January 25, 1909, in Newcastle, WY

Parents – Henry & Rachel (Harte) Guyot


She attended school in Sheridan and in Edgemont, SD, where she graduated from high school in 1927. She graduated from Peru State Teacher’s College in Peru, Nebraska and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wyoming. Erma married Kenneth E. Kirby in Hardin, MT, on February 7, 1931. She taught school for 42 years, 12 years in Lusk, WY and in the Sheridan School District #2 for 30 years. She retired in 1974. Erma was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, National Education and Wyoming Education Associations, Delta Kappa Gamma, Naomi Chapter #2 O.E.S., Sahida Temple Daughter’s of the Nile, American Legion Aux., VFW Aux., and the retired Teacher’s Association.

Her husband and two brothers Noel Guyot and Charles Guyot preceded Erma in death.

Dana G. Mauch age 85 of Sheridan, WY

Died Sunday, July 13, 2003, in his Sheridan home.

Born January 11, 1918, in Wellesley, Massachusetts

Parents – Gilbert & Louise (Farnsworth) Mauch

He grew up Waban, MA and graduated from Newton High School. He graduated from Babson College with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and later from Wentworth Institute. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He worked at Boston Safe Deposit and Trust and was the Chief Investment Officer when he retired. He married Helyne Eisele in Massachusetts in the mid 1970’s. They came to Story, WY in 1976 and then later moved into Sheridan. Helyne died in 2002. An avid golfer, he was a member of the country club in Massachusetts and the Sheridan Country Club. He was the Vice-Chairman of the Board of First National Bank in Sheridan. He enjoyed being in the outdoors in Wyoming.

Susie Mitchell, 92, of Sheridan, WY, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003 in Sheridan Manor.

Mrs. Mitchell was born October 1, 1910 in Kooi, WY to George and Mary (Kacet) Soltis. She grew up in Kooi and went to school in Monarch. She went to work at the Yentzer Ranch at the foot of the Big Horn’s on Big Goose.

Mrs. Mitchell married Joe Mitchell in Sheridan and she went to work at the Sugar Factory in Sheridan. Mr. Mitchell went to work in the Monarch Coal Mine, later working for Big Horn Coal, and the family lived in Monarch and Acme. Mrs. Mitchell enjoyed her flowers and her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters.

Mrs. Mitchell is survived by two sons; Alvin and wife, Linda, of Sheridan, and Robert and wife, Lorena, of Gillette, WY; two daughters; Mary Lupton and husband, Eric, of Washington state, and Donna Ross and husband, Lance, of Washington state; one sister, Helen McAdams of Las Vegas, NV; 11 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Murel Jean Packard- age 82 of Arvada, WY

Died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, in Amie Holt Care Center, Buffalo, WY

Born May 11, 1921, in Sheridan, WY

Parents – James & Erma (Minster) Enochs
She grew up on the family ranch south of Arvada. She graduated from Sheridan High School and later went on to Business College in Denver. Murel married Wayne Packard on May 29, 1939, at the family ranch. They ranched there until moving to Idaho Falls, ID in 1948 and then to Cody, WY. They returned to the ranch south of Arvada in 1967 and ranched there the rest of their lives. Murel gave piano lessons to the neighbor children for many years. She loved music and played various instruments including piano and violin. She enjoyed animals, poetry, storytelling, and having company over for dinner.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers.

Mildred M. Russell age 94 of Sheridan, WY, died Friday, July 4, 2003, in Sheridan Manor. She was born October 15, 1908, in Northwood, Iowa, to Louis & Mina “Minnie” (Hanson) Madson. She grew up and attended schools in Northwood. She received her teaching degree from State Teacher’s College, Cedar Falls, IA (now the University of Northern Iowa). She married Dr. Bryan F. Russell on June 30, 1934 in Northwood. She taught school in Iowa and in Cody, Wyoming before coming to Sheridan. Dr. B.F. Russell died in 1995. Mrs. Russell was very active in Sheridan being a member of First United Methodist Church, PEO Sisterhood, American Legion Auxiliary, Sheridan Woman’s Club, Daughters of the Nile, United Methodist Women, Fine Arts Club, Sheridan Book Review Club and a life member of the Friends of the Library.

Brother Alton Madson and sister Myrtle M. Rider also preceded Mrs. Russell in death.

Mrs. Russell is survived by her son Bryan W. Russell & wife Edith of Cheyenne, WY; daughter Mildred R. Marsh & husband Robert of Billings, MT; grandchildren Scott and Wendy Marsh of Bothell, Washington and Kirsti Marsh of Newcastle, Washington; and great grandchildren Hiedi Marsh and Nolan Marsh of Bothell, Washington.

Memorial service will be 10:00am on Monday (July 28th) from First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Inurnment of cremains will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood, IA.

Linda Aversano Sales age 55 of Sheridan, WY

Died Monday, July 7, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County

Born September 23, 1947, in Seattle, WA

Parents – Anthony & Nellie (Lucero) Aversano


She grew up in southern California and graduated from Lennox High School. She graduated from the University of Wyoming. Linda came to Sheridan in 1971. She married Don Sales in 1978 in Hawaii. They were later divorced. She worked at the Chamber of Commerce for several years and was a substitute teacher at Sheridan High School. Linda worked for several businesses before going to work at Wal Mart. Linda enjoyed gardening, crafts, sewing, collecting antiques & seashells, being outdoors, motorcycles, music and dancing.

She was preceded in death by her father and one brother Mike.

E. Keith Salisbury age 80 of Sheridan, WY

Died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, in Westview Health Care Center, Sheridan

Born February 3, 1923, in Sheridan

Parents – Lloyd & Avon (Pence) Salisbury


He grew up and graduated high school in Sheridan. Served in the Army during the occupation in Japan. After the service, he returned to Sheridan and married Doris Rose in 1950. He worked at the V.A. Medical Center until he retired in 1974. Mrs. Salisbury died in 1974. He coached Little League Baseball as well as being a Scout Master and volunteer fireman in Big Horn, WY, for several years. Keith was one of the organizing members of the AFGE Union in Sheridan. In 1988, he married Edith Geer. An avid fly fisherman, Keith also enjoyed hunting, bowling, dancing and traveling. He was a member of AFGE Union, Elks Lodge #520 and American Legion Post #7.

Edwin Schmierer, 81, of Sheridan, WY, died Thursday, July 31, 2003 in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Mr. Schmierer was born September 1, 1921 in Tappen, North Dakota to Christian and Cristina (Orth) Schmierer. He grew up in North Dakota and joined the Army, serving from 1943 to 1946 in Ogden, Utah.

Mr. Schmierer married Lena Lachenmaier in Hardin, MT April 9, 1947. He was employed at the Sheridan Flouring Mill for 23 years, worked for the Jersey Creamery for a number of years, then worked at Highland Park School, retiring in 1986. In 1974, Mr. Schrmierer completed his GED-high school equivalence at the age of 53, as he had to quit high school during the Depression to help on the family farm. Edwin no longer needs his cane. He is walking with the Lord.

Mr. Schmierer enjoyed gardening, puzzles, concerts in the park, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Sheridan.

Mr. Schmierer was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, and 6 sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Lena, of Sheridan; 1 son, Rick Schmierer, of Sheridan; 2 brothers, Dave and wife Hazel, of Lodi, CA, and Gottlieb and wife Martha, of Lemmon, S.D.; and 2 sisters, Pauline Schmierer of Lodi, CA, and Amelia Wagenman and husband, Gottlieb, of Spokane, WA.

Visitation for Mr. Schmierer will be from 6:00P.M. to 8:00P.M. Sunday, August 3, 2003 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service for Mr. Schmierer will be 10:00A.M. Monday, Aug. 4, 2003 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Alan Boyles officiating. Burial will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

William H. Sept, 80, of Sheridan, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2003, at Sheridan Manor.

William was born on December 7, 1922, in Neslen, South Dakota, to John and Helen (Miller) Sept. He worked as a cement finisher in the construction business for all of his working life. William very much enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Mr. Sept was preceded in death by his parents; his five brothers, Arnold Sept, Robert Sept, Arthur Sept, Edward Sept and Harry Sept; and his four sisters, Tillis Britzman, Doris Sept, Alma Sorenson, Emma Dykes, and Leona Lewis. Survivors include his two sisters, Helen Gearhart of Buffalo, WY and Bertha Britzman of Riverside, CA; aan a niece, Shirley Carter and her husband ,Keith of Sheridan.

Cremation has taken place in Sheridan. Inurnment of cremains will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery on Saturday, August 2, 2003 at 10:00 am. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.


Gerald Woodrow Slater, 88, of Sheridan, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Gerald was born on February 21, 1915, in Sheridan, Wyoming, to George and AnneBelle (Sepal) Slater. Mr. Slater attended Big Horn and Sheridan schools. He worked on a ranch in 1931. On October 16, 1936, he married Helen Krezelok in Sheridan, Wyoming, the two of them were married for sixty six years. Their union was blessed with two daughters. When Gerald and Helen were first married he worked on a local dairy farm, for Sheridan Coal Company, then began working at Mid Continent Oil for twenty four years. In 1971 Gerald began working at Champion Funeral Home. He was a member of BPOE (Elks) 520 for twenty eight years and was elected Elk of the Year for 1991-1992. He was also a member of Oddfellows #19. Gerald enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, attending lodge meetings and raising flowers.

Mr. Slater was preceded in death by his wife Helen; his parents; his brother James Slater; and his grandson, Byron Schilling. Survivors include his two daughters, Shirley E. Schilling of Casper and Judy A. Engle of Wheatridge, CO; his 2 grandchildren; and his 2 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 11, 2003 at Kane Funeral Home from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2003, at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Elks Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

James W. Smith, 85, of Sheridan, WY, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003 in the Sheridan V. A. Medical Center.

Mr. Smith was born October 28, 1917 in Whitesburg, Penn. to Frank and Vera (McKee) Smith, the eldest of 10 children. He attended school at Concord Elementary School, and graduated from Elderton High School in Elderton Penn. Mr. Smith also attended Grove City College in Grove City, Penn.

Mr. Smith entered the Army in 1940, serving in the India-Burma Theater until 1946. He then returned to Elderton in 1947, and married Audrey Christy June 14, 1947 in the Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church in Monateau, Penn.

Mr. Smith worked erecting gas rigs, and also bought a farm in Penn. in 1947. The Smiths moved to Newcastle, WY in 1965 where he was a carpenter and the manager of the employment service office. Mr. Smith also worked in the Post Office for a short time. He became a Farm Bureau Agent in 1968 until his retirement in 1979. The Smiths moved to Sheridan in 1993.

Mr. Smith was a life member of the American Legion, the V. F. W., and the Reformed Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed traveling in his R.V., spending time with his family and reading.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and 1 sister.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey, of Sheridan; two sons, Ralph Smith and wife, Diana, of Wheatland, WY, and Richard “Red” Smith and wife Keta, of Dayton, WY; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Kathy) Kehl of Douglas, WY, and Mrs. Jim (Karen) Zerbst of Shell, WY; two brothers, Byron Smith of Bethel Park, Penn, and Donald Smith of Alaska; 4 sisters, Delnora Hanley and Winifred Henderson, both of Florida, Donna Dean Taylor of Clarion, Penn., and Vivian Lemke of Fallbrook,CA; 12 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.

Services for Mr. Smith will be 10:00A.M. Monday, July 14th, 2003 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Revs. Terry Wall and Joe Wolf officiating. Burial will be at 2:30P.M. July 14th at the Oregon Trail Cemetery in Evansville, WY. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Alfred “Ab” H. Talcott, 91, of Sheridan, WY, died Friday, July 11, 2003 in Westview Health Care Center, Sheridan.

Mr. Talcott was born on May 22, 1912, in Central Valley (Orange County), New York to August Belmont Talcott, Jr., and Marguerite Lena (Schick) Talcott. As a youth he painted houses, drove beer wagons, and worked at Eaton’s Ranch as a cook. He served in the U.S. Calvary in 1925, and during W.W. II helped construct CCC Camps.

Mr. Talcott married Grace J. O’Dell on September 26, 1936 in Hardin, MT. He was a house painter with his brothers in Sheridan for most of his life. He enjoyed his family, visiting friends and family, shopping for bargains, fished when he could and eating out. He had a reputation as being an avid hunter and fisherman and made sure he had pictures to prove that he had caught “the big one”. Mr. Talcott was a life time member of the Painters and
Drywall Finisher’s Union.

His parents, his wife, Grace, one son, a sister, and two brothers preceded him in death.

Mr. Talcott is survived by two daughters, Janet Rodgers, and Abbie Richardson and husband, Kerry; one brother, August (Aug) Talcott, all of Sheridan; one sister, Lorraine Brogna of Hemet, CA; 9 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild.

Viewing for Mr. Talcott will be from 6:00P.M. to 8:00P.M. Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00A.M. Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Messianic Pastor Hale Harris of the Beth Ephraim Messianic Israel Congregation officiating. Burial will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

Irene Walli, 72, of Sheridan, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2003, at Sheridan Manor.

Irene was born on January 7, 1931, in Automba, Minnesota, to Edward and Mary (Pikkarainen) Korpi. On July 13, 1993, she married Toivo Walli in Cromwell, Minnesota. Irene loved listening to music, dancing as well as being a musician herself. She also enjoyed visiting with people and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Walli was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband Toivo of Cromwell, Minnesota; her two daughters, Linda I. Johnson and her husband Albert of Sheridan and Heidi L. Hassel and her husband Jeff of Wright, Minnesota; her two sisters Lempi Thompson and Marge Herbst; her brother Gene Korpi; and her six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place in Sheridan and a private family memorial service will be held at North Branch Cemetery in Cromwell, Minnesota. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.


 

Jack Martin Woodard, 84, of Sheridan, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Jack was born on September 5, 1918, in Effingham, Kansas, to Jack Martin and Grace Edna (Bonnel) Woodard. On January 10, 1948, he married Anne Rita (Juroshek) at the Episcopal church in Sheridan. Their union was blessed with one daughter. Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing, and baking for friends. He had a love of horses and his two dogs. He was a life long member of the Elks.

Mr. Woodard was preceded in death by his wife, Anne; his brother Earl; and his parents. He is survived by his daughter Karen Woodard of Sheridan; several sister-in-law’s, brother-in-law’s, nieces, and nephews; and his two companions, Willy and Tuffy.

Visitation will be held at Kane Funeral Home on Monday, July 21, 2003 from 7:00p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at 10:00a.m at Kane Funeral Home with The Reverend Ron Stolcis officiating. Interment will follow in the Elks Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

The family has requested that memorials be made in Jack’s name to the Elks Cemetery Fund in care of Kay Roush, First Federal Bank, P.O. Box 6007, Sheridan, WY 82801.
