The first college rodeo of the season is in the books and we are very proud of the how our team performed. The Men’s team placed 5 out of 15 teams with 305 total points, the Women’s team placed 8th.
On the Men’s side Zeke Thurston a freshman was 76 points in the first round in the Saddle Bronc Riding to win the round, he was 68 points in the short round to place second.
Zeke won the average with 144 total points, he earned the team 170 points, only two saddle broncs were rode in the short round, so the bucking horses were very good.
Tate Schwagler a sophomore scored 70 points in the Bareback riding in the long round placing 9th and rode outstanding in the short round for 71 points and split 3rd and 4th place, Tate placed 5th in the average and earned the team 55 points.
Tate also made it back to the short round in the team roping with team member Laine Hanson, they came back in the 10th hole, Laine was unable to catch in the short round so they placed 10th in the average.
CJ Davidson a freshman placed 3rd in the long round in the bullriding with a 70 pt score. There were 37 bullriders and only 4 made it back to the short round with a qualified ride. CJ was unable to ride his bull in the short round, he placed 3rd in the average earning a total of 80 team points, there were no qualified rides in the short round.
On the Women’s team Freshman Jayne Lauweryssen placed 5th in the breakaway roping with a time of 2.9 seconds. There was only 1 second separating the 1st place time and the 10th place time. Jayne earned 20 in the long round, she missed in the short round.
Other stand outs were Sutton Sandquist who started a great saddle bronc ride but was bucked off, Dusty Benoit rode a rank bull to 7.5 seconds on the clock, Ryne Baier was 5/10ths of a second out of qualifying in the Steer Wrestling and Teddi Schwagler was 5/10ths of a second out of the last hole in the goat tying.
Gillette won the men’s team with 765 pts
UW was second with 625 pts
EWC third with 390 pts
NJC fourth with 325 pts
Sheridan fifth with 305 pts.
